MARTIN, Isabelle 2008-12-08 Mrs. Isabelle Martin, age 98 years, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2008 at Roseview Manor. Isabelle was born on June 12, 1910 in Port Elgin Ontario where she grew up on the family farm in the Saugeen district. As a young woman she moved to St. Catherines to work and it was there that she married her husband George Delmar on April 18, 1944. From there they moved to his hometown of Southampton where they began their family. Shortly after Delmar began working for Abitibi Paper as captain of one of their tugs on L. Nipigon they moved to Port Arthur in 1949, bringing with them their daughter and infant son. It was here that she raised their family of five children, often doing so on her own since the nature of Delmar’s work took him away from home much of the year. Isabelle was kind, humble, and always giving of her time for others while asking nothing in return, all of which exemplified the Christian faith that guided her life. She raised her children by the ’golden rule’ and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Isabelle is a Past Worthy Matron and lifetime member of the Argyle Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star as well as a lifetime member and past Unit Leader of the UCW at St. Paul’s United Church where she spent many, many hours over the more than fifty years she attended. Isabelle is survived by her children: Kathryn (Ron) MacDonald in North Bay ON and her children Cindy Baker in North Bay and Debbie Martens and her son Brandon in Cold Lake AB; Douglas (Sherry); Brian (Judith) and their son David in Victoria BC; James (Silvia). Also surviving are nephews and nieces and their extended families. She was predeceased by her parents Josiah and Agnes Bell, her sisters Mary, Jessie, and Frances, her daughter Mary in 1982, and her husband Delmar in 1992. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services for the late Isabelle Martin will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 12th at St. Paul’s United Church, 349 Waverley St., with Rev. Wayne Sanderson officiating. If friends desire, donations to the St. Paul’s United Church Memorial Fund or charity of your choice would be appreciated. Arrangements in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street. On-line condolences may be made at
