BLACKWELL, Lyle Grey Passed away in his 91st year, after a lifetime of service to his community. Mourned by his wife Catherine Blackwell and his daughters Judith and Linda Blackwell, and by Michel Poirier and Ed Borowski, his grand-daughters Laurie-Catherine Wright and Gillian Wright, and his three great-grandchildren. He was energetic and charismatic, with a gift for getting things done. Through his work for Cystic Fibrosis, for which he was a prime mover in establishing an international organization, and the Kidney Foundation, he contributed to the lives of untold numbers of children. He accepted the responsibility of international executive positions with Kiwanis and Cystic Fibrosis. He was active with the Ottawa Civic Hospital, the Confederation Club, the Ottawa School of Art and the Ottawa Philharmonic, and served as a Kiwanian for 50 years in the interests of the causes that Kiwanis supported. He was dedicated to his family, loyal to his friends, devoted to his church, and he worked tirelessly both in his professional life and in his service to others. An accomplished athlete, he took great delight in outdoor activities, with a special passion for the island on Lake MacArthur where he created a haven for family and friends. The bonfires, the fish fries down on the rock, and the laughter and love will always be special memories of him, as will be his commitment to giving his energy and innovative ideas to help children in need. A service in his memory will be held at Kingsway United Church at 2:30 on Wednesday, November 2. Published in the Ottawa Citizen on 10/31/2005
