Laura Hazel Wemp Laura passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 13, 2005 at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Veronica with her family at her side. Loving wife of the late Leslie Wemp, they were united in marriage January 26, 1942. She was born on Amherst Island, the daughter of the late Edward and Ellen McGinn. Through the years she was a member of Christ Church, Amherst Island, St. John's Anglican Church, Bath, and St. Luke's Anglican Church Camden East. Laura was a full time homemaker, and worked on the family farm on Amherst Island, Bath and Moscow for over 50 years, first with Leslie and then with her son Jim. She enjoyed gardening, reading quilting, sewing. After retiring she traveled, read and did needlework. Laura embroidered tablecloths and napkins for several family members - she was working on number six when she died. She always enjoyed a good game of cards and a spin on the dance floor. She was an avid supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays. Saturday night she always watched “Lawrence Welk“ and “Daniel O'Donnell“. Laura was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother to Sandra Armstrong and her husband Larry, their children Cathy White and her husband Paul and daughters Holly and Kristy; Steven Armstrong, Vicki Sterling and her husband Richard and sons Nicholas and Nathan; Carolyn Closs and her husband Tim; Christine Johnson and her husband David. Sharon Sands and her fiancee Bill Patterson and her two daughters Lesley and Jennifer Sands. Frederick Wemp and his wife Veronica, their children Donnie Wemp and his wife Sarah and their sons Taylor, Brandon and Cameron; Laurie Anne, Kerry and Andrew Wemp. Betty Ennis and her husband Dale. Jim Wemp and his partner Debbie Morgan and his children Heather, Erin and Daniel Wemp. Dear sister and sister in law to Hilda Mills, Edna Brown, Keith and Cora McGinn and Kaye and Dorothy McGinn. Predeceased by her sisters Iona Kay and Norah Delisle and bother Leslie McGinn. The Celebration of Laura's life was held September 16th at St. Luke's Anglican Church in Camden East with Rev. John Van Stone officiating. The pallbearers were grandsons Donnie, Andrew and Daniel Wemp, grandsons in laws Paul White, Richard Sterling and Adam Layfield. Reflections on her life were given by granddaughters Kerry Wemp and Carolyn Closs. Readings by granddaughters Heather Wemp and Laurie Ann Wemp, and friend Bill Nacu. Prayers by daughter Sandra Armstrong. Lesley and Jennifer Sands presented a Communion Set for dedication in memory of Leslie Wemp, it was given to St. Luke's Church from the family. Organist Carolyn Schaub and soloist Joan Myatt, played and sang several of Laura's favourite hymns. The server was friend Viren Oogarah and challis bearer was daughter Sharon Sands.
