ALEXANDER, REV. ARTHUR E. - Son of the late Frank Alexander and Alice O'Brien, Arthur E. Alexander was born in Saint John in 1927 and grew up on Brittain Street. He attended St. Vincent's Boys High School and St. Michael's College in Toronto prior to completing his seminary studies at Holy Redeemer College in Windsor, Ontario. Doctoral studies were completed at the University of Freibourg in Basel, Switzerland. On returning to Canada, Fr. Alexander assumed teaching responsibilities at Assumption University in addition to his pastoral responsibilities in southern Ontario. In the early 1980's he returned to his home diocese of Saint John and completed his ministry in the service of several parishes. Fr. Arthur will be fondly remembered by those touched by his kindness and compassion. His numerous friends and associates at St. Joseph's, St. Williams (St. Martin's) and St. Patrick's (Black River), St. Joachim's, St. Ann's, St. Vincent de Paul (Oromocto), St. Peter's, and St. Bridget's (Chapel Grove) will miss him. Fr. Alexander passed away suddenly at his home. He was pre-deceased by two brothers and three sisters and is survived by brothers Frank J. Alexander of Saint John, Harry E. Alexander of Miramichi, Alfred P. Alexander of Montreal and Walter J. Alexander of Montreal. His loss will be felt by many nieces and nephews from across the continent who though separated by distance always were close to him. Father Alexander will be resting at the Rectory of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Waterloo Street, Saint John. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and on Wednesday from 2-4 PM. Vespers will be held in the Cathedral on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Cathedral on Thursday, November 10 at 12:00 noon, followed by internment at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
