Mrs. Pearl Jeanette Issard (née Diggs) November 03, 1921 - November 07, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Atlantic Funeral Home (Halifax) ISSARD, Pearl Jeanette - Passed away on Monday, November 7, 2005, in Northwood Manor, just four days after her 84th birthday. Born in East Preston, she was a daughter of the late David and Francis (Ross) Diggs. In the early years, after her divorce from the late Frederick A. Issard, she struggled to raise their two sons, Frederick, Brampton, Ont.; Kenneth (Dorie), Lower Sackville; two daughters, Deborah (caregiver for two years before hospitalization was necessary) along with her husband Robert "Bob" Somers, who was the most dedicated son-in-law any mother-in-law could have, Beechville; and Brenda (Stanley) Letwyn, Winnipeg, Man. Mom is survived by grandchildren who highly respected her, Kimberly, Otis and Areatha; Robert Jr., Ryan and Richard; Christopher (Troy), Jamie, April "Pearl" Dee; and several great-grandchildren who never got a chance to know this soft-spoken, gracious lady. Mom was the oldest sister of David (Donna), London, Ont.; John, Halifax; Winnifred (Ken) Bell, London, Ont.; Mary Crawley, East Preston; Ada Rastig, London, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews who held high respect for their Aunt Pearl, especially nephew, Ernie Sampson, who always made sure to make hospital and Northwood visits. A special thank you to RN Mary Ann Arnold for her comforting words at a most difficult time and to all the staff of 3M, Northwood for your loving care. Mom was predeceased by the elder brother of the siblings, Harold; nephew, Ronald, and nieces, Linda and Menita. There was also sister, Vera, who to daughter, Deborah, looked so much like Mom. "May they both be together at this time". In our father's eyes Pearl was a gem who had to be left to shine in her own direction. As he once stated years later, before his passing, when thinking back to years gone by, "SHE WAS HIS BLACK PEARL AND HE JUST HAD TO HAVE HER". Arrangements are under the care and direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where visitation will be Friday, November 11, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., where the funeral service will be held Saturday, November 12, at 2 p.m. Cremation to follow with her remains to reside with her daughter, Brenda and family in Manitoba. At last Mom, you will get to travel and be at peace. If you so choose, donations may be made to the East Preston United Baptist Church, 206 Upper Partridge Rd., Dartmouth, NS B2Z 1H3, Northwood Foundation, 2615 Northwood Terrace, Halifax, NS B3K 3S5, or to any charity of choice. Mom, after so many years in silent pain, may you now rest in peace. God bless your soul. The family will welcome on-line condolences at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
