Richard Ross Ayer Born July 31, 1946 Sackville, N.B.- "Dad", "Grampy", "Papa", "Rick", prematurely went to be with his Lord on Remembrance Day, 2005, at the Georges-L. Dumont Hospital in Moncton, New Brunswick. The first baby born in the Sackville Memorial Hospital, Rick and wife Connie returned to Sackville in 1996, fulfilling a lifelong dream to retire close to the marshlands he loved. Rick was a loyal employee of the Royal Bank of Canada for more than 30 years, following in the footsteps of his father, the late Charles Ayer. He worked for the company in Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Rick will be most remembered as a man who loved and served his family with unwavering devotion. He relished family vacations and celebrations, time spent laughing at the dinner table, good-natured bantering in the daily Halifax-Dartmouth commute with three university aged children, and, more recently, wheelchair tag with his two grandchildren. He refused to let a lifelong medical condition impact these good times or colour his outlook on life. Rick also loved to paint, read, fish, golf and curl. The family mourning this great loss includes his loving mother, Ruby Ayer (Phinney) of Sackville, N.B.; faithful wife, Connie Ayer (Dickson) of Sackville, N.B.; children, Suzanne (Greg) Soper of Moncton, N.B., Matt Ayer (Kasia Rozalska) of Calgary, Alberta, Jane Ayer (Sean Hume) of Toronto, Ontario; cherished grandchildren, Timothy and Heidi Soper and brother, Don Ayer (Sylvie Delisle) of Montreal, Quebec. Arrangements are entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 89 Bridge Street, Sackville, N.B.(364-8188). Cremation has taken place. Visiting hours will take place on Monday, November 14, 2005 from 7 to 9 PM at Campbell's Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at 2 PM from the Middle Sackville Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Vickruck officiating. Burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Rick may be made to the Middle Sackville Baptist Church, the Kidney Foundation of Canada or to the charity of ones choice. "Where the charming roses bloom forever And separations come no more If we never meet again this side of Heaven We will meet you on that beautiful shore." [Times & Transcript]
