VERNA C. GILMORE It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, Verna Christina (Dunnett) Gilmore on September 18, 2008. Verna Christina Dunnett was born in Sillikers, New Brunswick on August 29, 1921, the sixth of 10 children of the late Wilbur J. and Mildred (Matchett) Dunnett. Her vivacious and loving personality, as a child and throughout her adult life, made her a joy to her family and a delight to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her devoted husband, George Edward Gilmore, Sr.; her two children and their spouses, Carol (Gilmore) and Rev. Everett Reed, of Lowville, NY, and George and Twila Gilmore, of SouthEsk, New Brunswick, Canada; by four grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Carol (Gilmore) Tozer and her husband, Derek, George Matthew Gilmore and his wife, Cara, Christopher Reed and his wife Amy, and Ruth (Gilmore) Ingraham and her husband Jordan; and by six great - grandchildren, Nathaniel, Benjamin, Christina, and Lincoln Tozer, George Samuel Gilmore, and Baby Gilmore to be born. Aunt Verna will be remembered and mourned by her many nieces and nephews and by two of her dear brothers and their wives, Ingles and Ella Dunnett of Sunny Corner, N.B. and Boyd and Nancy Dunnett, of Moncton, N.B. and her sisters-in-law Sadie (Mrs. David) Dunnett of Sillikers, N.B., Jean (Mrs. Mervin) Dunnett and Jean (Mrs. Wilbur) Dunnett. Verna was predeceased by her parents, her mother-in-law, Madeline Gilmore, two sisters, Josephine (Mrs. Cecil) Matthews, Annie (Mrs. Sydney) Astle, and five brothers, David, Mervin, William, Hollie, and Wilbur Jr. Verna and George met and fell in love while working at the Pratt Camps on the beautiful Holmes Lake in New Brunswick, Canada. In May of 1943, they were married at the Harvard Chapel in Massachusetts and lived most of their married life in Lynbrook, New York, where they raised their family. In recent years, they have resided near Lowville, New York. Every year Verna came back to her beloved New Brunswick to spend time with her dear Canadian family. Her happy presence brought her family together to spend many special times with each other. The Gilmore's were very active in the Valley Stream Presbyterian Church. In later years they retired on Long Island at Leisure Glen. For many years Verna was a leader in the Christian Women's Club, where she served in several capacities, including Chairman. Verna made many close friends throughout the years. She will be fondly remembered as a gracious lady whose pleasant manner, quick humour, kindliness, and generosity profoundly touched the lives of all those who were blessed to know her. More than anything, she loved her family and treasured her time as a wife, mother, and grandmother. Funeral service was held at the Lowville Baptist Church, NY on Sunday, September 21, at 4:00 PM. A Memorial Service will also be held at St. Stephen's Presbyterian Church, Sunny Corner, New Brunswick on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 3:00 PM. Internment will take place at the family plot of the Presbyterian Cemetery, in Boom Road, New Brunswick where Verna's parents and grandparents were interred. Remembrances may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Local Funeral arrangements are under the care of Meadow's Funeral Home, 150 Northwest Road, Sunny Corner, NB.
