Mr. Benedict Theophilis Connell, of Little Bartibog, husband of the late Mary Agnes (Morrison) Connell, passed away Saturday evening at Miramichi Regional Hospital, at the age of 93. Born in Little Bartibog, he was the son of the late James & Celina (Arsenault) Connell. He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Federal Government. He was a member of St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, member of the Atlantic Salmon Museum. He was inducted into Atlantic Salmon Hall of Fame. He was an avid outdoors man. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by three daughters; Rosella Hartery (Arthur) of Miramichi; Ann Russell (Fred) of Parkdale NS; Arlene Black (Buddy) of Miramichi; four sons; James (Rita) of Little Bartibog; Walter (Marilyn) of Manitoulin Island ON; Lee (Brenda) of Saskatoon Sask; Fred (Doris) of Little Bartibog; 34 grandchildren and 48 great grandchildren. Besides his parents and his wife he was predeceased by one son David Ronald; three sisters; Mary Glynn, Bridget Ramsay and Rosella Connell; four brothers; Martin, Vincent, Bennett and Adelard; one great grandchild Cealan Hartery. Mr. Benedict T. Connell rested at Davidson's Funeral Home, 597 Old King George Hwy, with visitation on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. from St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, with Father Tom Fowler officiating. Other clergy in the sanctuary was Father Leon Creamer. Organist was Mary Butler. Hymns were "Here I Am Lord", "Hail Mary Gentle Woman", "Be Not Afraid" and "Amazing Grace". Soloist Susan Butler rendered "Irish Lull'A -By. Reading's were read by Rosella Hartery and Walter Connell. Prayers of the Faithful were by James Connell, Shawn Napke, Tina Connell, Justin Connell, Robin Redden and Paul Hartery. Eucharistic Minister's were Patricia Foran, Lee Connell, Fred Russell and Ann Russell. Burial followed in the family plot of the church cemetery. At the request of the family donations to St Mary's Growing in Faith Campaign or a memorial of ones choice would be appreciated. Active Pallbearers were: Gary Hartery, Donnie Foran, Lisa Connell-Levesque, Tony Black, Kenneth Redden, Scott Black, Justin Napke, and Ashley Connell. Honorary Pallbearers were: Gerald Glynn, Charles Glynn, James Glynn, Anna Sullivan, Willard Ramsey, Patricia Foran, Danny Foran, Bill Connell, Frances Enriquez, Raymond Savage, Norman Richardson, Dennis Connell, Gerald Beaulieu, and Eddy Richard.
