The death of Annie Mildred Whalen, wife of the late Alfred Whalen of Renous, NB, occurred on Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 98. Born in Renous, NB, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jane (Buggie) Hayes. Annie was a homemaker who attended St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church, Renous. Annie is survived by: one daughter: Joanne Pleadwell (Vincent "Shirley") of Renous, NB; two grandchildren: Derek and Cheryl; one great grandchild: Darion; two nephews: Lee and Joe Whalen. Besides her parents and husband, Annie is predeceased by: three sisters: Josie Young, Jane Whalen and Mary Prue. The family received visitors at the Father Murdock Memorial Room, Renous on Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday at 11 AM from St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church with Monsignor Joseph Woods officiating. Organist: Blanche Donovan accompanied the church choir. Hymns were: "Faith of Our Fathers," "In the Sight of the Angels," "Lord of Glory," "Hail Mary," "Songs of the Angels" and " I Believe in the Sun." Readers were: Wanda Gillespie and Denise Whalen. Active pallbearers were: Gary Whalen, Kenny Whalen, Lee Whalen, Jamie Duffy, Aloysius Hayes, Donnie Pleadwell. Honorary pallbearers were: Thomas McCabe, Aubrey Buggie, Joe Whalen, Joe Whalen Jr., Louis Furlong and Louis Hallihan. Burial followed in the St. Bridget's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery. In Annie's memory, donations may be made to a memorial of one's choice. Funeral arrangements were under the care of Bell's Funeral Home, 651 King George Highway, Miramichi, NB.
