Wilma (Matchett) Cook It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Wilma Cook of Miramichi, NB., widow of the late Gerry Cook of Chatham, NB, which occurred at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on November 5, 2008. Born in Sillikers in 1931, she was the daughter of the late Robert & Grace (MacDonald) Matchett. Mom spent many years as a devoted wife and mother before also returning to her nursing career to work on the Maternity Floor of the former Hotel Dieu Hospital. Mom was an inspiration to everyone. She gave so much love and was always there to help anyone in need. She was an active member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 40years. She belonged to the Santa Maria Society and was former president of the senior and retired nurses. Later in life Mom especially enjoyed her outings with the Purple Hats Ladies Mom is survived by her loving children: Bernice (Sterling) of Fredericton, Karen (Don) of Florida, Marilyn of Miramichi and Gerard of Ontario; along with three cherished grandchildren, Jessica, Jennifer and Michael and her sister Grace (Joe) Lawlor. She is predeceased by her husband and two young children, her parents; two sisters and one brother. Visitation was held at Maher's Funeral Home Miramichi on Friday Nov 7th from 2-4 & 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday Nov 8th at 1pm at St Michael's Basilica with Fr John Fraser officiating. Active Pallbearers were Thomas Dennis, Peter Lawlor, Harry MacDonald, Terry Power and Scott Johnstone. Purple Hat Ladies: Joan Cripps, Kay Bell, Florence Glynn, Paula Barry, Polly Jamieson, Maureen LeBlanc, Matilda Murdock, Bobby Cross, Joanne Glynn, Lillian Barry, Joan Searle, Pat Foran, Joan Ross, Exilda Gaston, Della Daley, Marilyn Duffy, Nina Long, Betty Gregoire, Judy Bowman and Rumbha Pershad. The St Michael's CWL and the Retired Teachers formed a guard of honor. Interment was in Church Cemetery.
