HOUGHTON, James Scott. It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jim Houghton on July 27, 2004 at the age of eighty-eight. Graduate of McGill University, long-time member of the Red Birds Ski Club, Jim was Canadian National Ski Champion in 1938, and coached the McGill ski team after graduation. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force in WWII, and spent his working career at Dominion Bridge. He was an avid and respected birdwatcher, a gardener, and an artist, and had an irrepressible sense of humour. Predeceased by his first wife Dorothy (Michaels) and by his four older brothers and sister. Survived by his loving daughters Betty Woods and Barbara Houghton, their husbands, and his six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by his wife Elizabeth Galbraith-Cornell and step-daughter Deane Hartgerink and her family. At his request, there will be no formal service, but a memorial gathering will take place in the fall. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Province of Quebec Society for the Protection of Birds, P.O. Box 43, Station B, Montreal, H3B 3J5, or Fraser-Hickson Library, 4855 Kensington, Montreal, H3X 3S6. The Montreal Gazette
