WILLIAMSON, Jean Marie - August 29, 1915 - November 29, 2008 - In loving memory of Jean Williamson, a long time resident of Mindemoya, who passed away peacefully at the Sudbury General Hospital at the age of 93. Jean was born in Paisley, Scotland and moved to Toronto with her mother, Margaret Birch, when she was three. Jean graduated from Jarvis Collegiate (Toronto) in 1928 and went on to graduate from the Toronto General Hospital's School of Nursing in 1938. Jean then attended the University of Toronto and graduated in 1940 from the Public Health Nursing program. After completing the nursing program Jean worked for the Red Cross at the outpost hospitals in Wallaceburg and Thessalon. She then found her way to Manitoulin Island where she worked as the Red Cross Public Health Nurse, meeting the needs of Manitoulin Island residents. This is where she met Roy. Jean and Roy were married December 4, 1943 in Toronto and returned to Mindemoya in 1948. After the birth of her sons she returned to full time work in 1965 as the Public Health Nurse for the Sudbury & District Health Unit. She retired in 1980. Jean was actively involved in her community as a member of the Manitoulin Drama Club, the Stamp Club, the Carnarvon Horticultural Society, the Bridge Club, the Nature Club and the Central Manitoulin Historical Society. Jean also had many interests and passions that included reading, baking, knitting, needlepoint, gardening, travel and music. In 1990 at the age of 75 she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in History from Laurentian University. Loving wife of Roy (predeceased 1964), devoted mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother of David (Diane) of Mindemoya, grandson Robert (Kate) and great-grandson Patrick. Ian (Lois) of Gore Bay, grandchildren Sarah Jayne, Jennifer and Andrew. Ted (Jane) of Sudbury, grandchildren Angella and Craig. She will also be sadly missed by many friends and relatives near and abroad. A memorial will be held at the Mindemoya United Church on Thursday December 4th at 11 a.m. officiated by Mary-Jo Eckert-Tracy. If so desired, memorial donations may be made in memory of Jean to the Mindemoya Hospital Auxiliary. 11340529
