CARDY, Patrick 1953-2005 Suddenly in hospital on March 24, 2005. Patrick Robert Thomas Cardy in his 52nd year. Beloved husband of Janet (Ashley). Loving father of Jonathan and Michael. Cherished son of Mary Cardy. Predeceased by his father Robert. Beloved son-in-law of Beverly Ashley. Dearly loved brother of Jamie (Joan), Rob (Nancy), Dan (Janice), Sheila Coffin (Lew), Maureen Buchanan (Tom) and Angela. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Patrick was a prolific composer, well-known in the Ottawa community, across Canada and beyond for superbly crafted music of warm lyricism, poignancy, and charm. Born in Toronto on 22 August 1953 and raised in Kitchener, Patrick was educated at the University of Western Ontario and at McGill University, where he earned his doctorate under the supervision of the late Bengt Hambraeus. In 1977 he joined the Music Program in the School for Studies in Art and Culture at Carleton University where he will be remembered by a generation of students for his meticulous standards as well as his warmth and generosity, the very qualities that endeared Patrick also to his many friends and colleagues in the Carleton community. Patrick was involved in many aspects of his profession, active as an adjudicator, lecturer and broadcaster as well as serving in various capacities for Ottawa's new music concert society Espace Musique, the Canadian University Music Society, and the Canadian League of Composers. In 1992 his "Virelai" for clarinet and string orchestra was nominated for a JUNO award in the "Best Classical Composition" category, and during the 1996-97 concert season he served as new music advisor to the National Arts Centre Orchestra. As a performer himself (he was a fine flutist) Patrick had a deep understanding of the expressive possibilities of the entire range of musical instruments, which perhaps explains his more than fifty commissions from performers and musical groups of many kinds, from the National Arts Centre Orchestra and Edmonton Symphony to pianists Elaine Keillor and Angela Hewitt. Patrick's passion for music was surpassed only by his love of his wife Janet, his sons Jonathan and Michael, his large extended family and wide circle of friends. He will be missed for his lively conversation, his sense of humour and his uncommon humility. L'ANSE - Aurelia E. Douville, 94, of L'Anse, passed away Friday, March 25, 2005, at Bayside Village, L'Anse. She had been a resident there for several months. She was born in Pequaming on June 20, 1910, daughter of the late Alfred and Thora C. (Pettersen) Hansen. She attended school in Pequaming and graduated from L'Anse High School in 1929. Aurelia married Lawrence Douville at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in L'Anse in 1932. He preceded her in death.She was employed by Baraga County Memorial Hospital, L'Anse, as an admissions clerk and retired in 1974. She had also clerked at the Gambles Hardware Store in L'Anse. She was a member of United Lutheran Church, L'Anse, and the Rebecca Lodge.Aurelia was an avid square dancer and enjoyed bowling, playing cards and sewing. In the summer she enjoyed tending to her garden.Mrs. Douville is survived by her loving children, Larry (Nancy) Douville of Battle Creek and Margaret "Dee Dee" (Howard) Chartier of L'Anse; grandchildren, Andrew Douville and Mark Chartier. She was preceded in death by her sister, Myrtle.Funeral services for Mrs. Douville will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, from the United Lutheran Church, L'Anse with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. Spring interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, L'Anse.The family will greet friends at the church on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, from 10 a.m. until time of the service.Memorials for Mrs. Douville may be directed to Bayside Village or the United Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. Benoit “Benny” J. Joyal, 80, of Highland St., Hudson, died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 26, 1924 in Lowell, MA, son of the late Donat and Florida (Pellerin) Joyal. He was the husband of the late Rita (Boisvert) Joyal, who died in February of 1995. Mr. Joyal worked at Greenridge Turkey Farm Restaurant in Nashua for 20 years. After retiring form Greenridge, he and his wife Rita co-founded a catering business, Benny’s Catering. He was very devoted to their business and retired after 35 years of work. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Hudson Post 48, as well as a parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson. Mr. Joyal loved spending time with his family and enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City with them. Survivors include one son, Rene Joyal of Hudson, One daughter and a son in law, Susan and William Zelonis of Hudson. A brother, Aurelien “Joe” Joyal of Dracut, MA. Four grandchildren, Erica Petralia of Hillsborough, NH, Peter Zelonis of Ascutney, VT, Christine Floyd and Bryan Joyal, both of Hudson. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10am in St. John the Evangelist Church in Hudson. All are invited and may meet at the Dumont-Sullivan Funeral Home, 50 Ferry St., Hudson at 9:15am. FITCHBURG, Mass. - Loretta R. (Leclair) Dupuis, 90, of Fitchburg, died on Friday, March 25, at Birchwood Care Center, Fitchburg, Mass.She was born in Lac Megantic, Canada, and was raised and educated in Lewiston. She had lived in Lawrence for many years before moving to Fitchburg two years ago.Before retirement, she had worked at the former Western Electric Co., North Andover.She was a former member of St. Patrick's Parish in Lawrence, and was a member of The Telephone Pioneers of America. She had also worked as a lunch lady at The Kane Junior High School in Lawrence.She loved to oil paint.The widow of Louis J. Dupuis, her family members include her four sons, Denis and his wife, Claudia Dupuis, of North Andover, Mass., Donald and his wife, Evelyn Dupuis, of Pepperell, Mass., Pierre and his wife, Shirley Dupuis, of Raymond, N.H., and Louis and his wife, Dorothy St. Hilaire, of Sabattus; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

FALL RIVER -- Mark R. Michaud, 55, of Fall River died Friday, March 25, 2005, at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the companion of 22 years of Dawn Silvia of Fall River and the former husband of Dora Lee Boyd of Fall River. Born in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of Pauline (Chervenak) Michaud of Fall River and the late Ralph R. Michaud. He resided in Connecticut for many years and in Fall River since 1972. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty, on the USS Robert E. Lee, USS Coral Sea and the USS America. He enjoyed scuba diving and photography. Survivors include his companion, his former wife and his mother; three daughters, Dawn Palmer and her husband, David, of North Dartmouth, Tina Michaud of Fall River and Lisa Silvia and her husband, David, of Swansea; a brother, David J. Michaud of Southbury, Conn.; his companion's daughter, Leah Silvia of Fall River; and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ronald L. Michaud. NEW BEDFORD -- M. Antoinette "Toni" (Rogissart) Townsend, 98, of New Bedford, formerly of Fairhaven, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Mariner Healthcare Center. She was the widow of Albert Townsend. Born in Charlesville, France, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Irma (Germont) Rogissart. She came to the United States as a child and lived in Fairhaven until moving to Rhode Island in 1947. She lived in Cranston and Warwick, R.I., from 1947 to 1965 before returning to Fairhaven. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a parishioner of the former Sacred Heart Church, both in Fairhaven. She was a seamstress for several companies in Rhode Island and the New Bedford area. Mrs. Townsend was a member of the St. Anne's Sodality and the AARP. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, painting, knitting, cooking and arts and crafts. Survivors include a stepson, John Townsend of Hollywood, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Nettie Casey of Salem; her niece and caregiver, Lucille M. Krouzek of Fairhaven; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was the sister of the late Jules, Marcel, Albert, Desire, Henri, Louis and Marguerite Rogissart. Her funeral will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday from Fairhaven Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Fairhaven, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Mary's Church, 444 Main St., Fairhaven. Burial will follow in Sacred Hearts Cemetery.

LOWELL -- Louis J. Albert, 85, a Chelmsford resident who had been the owner of a Lowell cafe, died Wednesday, March 23, at a local nursing home. He was the husband of the late Aline (Dufour) Albert.He was born in Lowell on March 29, 1919, a son of the late Paul and Eva (Desjardine) Albert.Prior to his retirement, Mr. Albert was the owner of the Centralville Café in Lowell.He is survived by a daughter, Connie Dion of Hudson, N.H.; three grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Lillian Roussel of Hudson, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. FAIRFIELD -- Cecile N. Martin, 90, our beloved mother and memere, passed away from this Earth and moved on to her Lord early Saturday morning, March 26, 2005, surrounded by her loving family at Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home in Waterville.Cecile was born in Caribou on Dec. 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Octave and Valerie (Michaud) Dube.She lived most of her life in Fairfield. She was married to Alcide Martin, who passed away in 1975. Our mom, memere, and most of all, our best friend, was witty, kind and dedicated to her family. She was happiest when her family was around her. She loved music and loved to sing and dance. We were so blessed to have her for so many years. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her.She was predeceased by four children, Alcide Jr., Lorraine, Maynard and Donald Martin; three beautiful grandsons, Steven Martin, Eric Emery and David Keegan; and eight brothers and a sister. FRANKLIN - Lucille M. Beach, 83, of Glory Avenue died Friday, March 25, 2005, at the Golden Crest in Franklin. She was born in Franklin on Oct. 16, 1921, the daughter of Romeo and Eva (LaPage) LaPlante. Mrs. Beach resided in Franklin all of her life and was a graduate of St. Mary School and Franklin High School. She worked as a waitress at the former Neil's Restaurant in Franklin for more than 30 years. Lu was a former den mother for Cub Scouts at St. Mary School and was a volunteer at Franklin Regional Hospital and at the Twin Rivers Food Closet. Mrs. Beach also was a member and former leader of Catholic Daughters of America Court Annie Nesmith. She worked at the ward 2 polls in Franklin for many years and was a member of Franklin VFW Post No. 1698 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Franklin. Mrs. Beach was the widow of Robert A. Beach, who died in 1988. Family members include her son, Robert D. Beach of Franklin; two daughters, Rebecca St. George of Hartford, Conn., and Robin Gonthier of Franklin; four grandchildren; two sisters, Loretta Rich and Patricia LaPlante, both of Franklin; a brother, Gerard LaPlante of White Marsh, Md.; and nieces and nephews. Robert B. Mersereau, aged 76, a Grand Haven resident, died March 24, 2005, in Reno, Nevada with his wife and four children at his bedside. He was born March 14, 1929, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Robert M. and Josephine Mersereau. Bob married Muriel Jacobson in 1953. Bob lived in Dowagiac, Michigan before moving to Grand Haven. He received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Business from the University of Michigan. He was an auditor in the United States Air Force. Bob's professional career, based in Grand Rapids, included senior positions in Seidman & Seidman, Old Kent Bank, and Union Bank. As a volunteer, Bob shared his talents with First Presbyterian Church, Wedgwood Christian Services, Tri-Cities Museum, Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Sigma Phi Fraternity, U of M Club of Grand Rapids, Round Table, Scottish Rite, and Boy Scouts. Bob enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at the cottage on Spring Lake. He was also an enthusiastic fan of the U of M's athletic teams. An avid sailor, he was Commodore of Apponaug Harbor Yacht Club and was a team manager and coach for Coventry youth baseball and soccer programs. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM in the Robert Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington Street, (Rte. 117), Coventry.
