BABBITT, Elizabeth (Betty) Mary It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Betty Babbitt, after a short battle with both heart and stroke, at the age of 86. She is survived by her life's companion, her loving husband Bill Babbitt. Also left behind, missing her deeply, are her children Dianne Matthias, Ralph (Sarah), Bob, and Dave (Susan); her grandchildren, Jonathan (Miriam), Christopher (Melanie), Emily, Miranda, Liam, Matthew and Alexandra; her great-grandchildren, Jonathan, and Micah. Her passing will leave such a large hole in the lives of all her friends and family. Betty was a generous and caring person, everyone who knew her, knew that she would be there for them. She would do anything needed for those she loved, especially her children. She left a promising career in Real Estate to teach Math in the Junior School at Ashbury College. In the years following her retirement, she and her husband Bill lived a quiet, comfortable life enjoying such things as gardening, winters in Florida, visits to and from her children, and just being in each other's company. She took particular joy in contact with her grandchildren, and great pride in being a great-grandmother. There is no doubt that she led a full and contented life. Oh, how we will miss her! Friends are invited to visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa, on Friday, March 6, from 7 - 9 pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Church of St. Bartholomew's, 125 MacKay St., Ottawa on Saturday, March 7 at 11 am. McDONALD, Alton Edwin August 2, 1926 - March 3, 2009 Alton McDonald, beloved husband of Leona McDonald of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Alton was born August 2, 1926 in Wellington, Prince Edward Island. He served his country for over twenty-seven years in the Royal Canadian Navy and Special Forces with the Army. Alton was stationed with the United Nations in Egypt before returning to Canada and settling in Calgary. Née le 25 juin 1918 à Moncton, elle était la fille de feu Arsène et Elizabeth (Noël) Arsenault. Elle laisse dans le deuil cinq enfants: Dr. Donald Geldart (Ruth) de la Floride, Levi Cormier (feu Linda), Paul Cormier (Jackie) et Carl Cormier (Sue) tous de l'Ontario, Linda Vautour (Gérald) de St-Charles;quatre beaux-enfants: Jeannette Smith (Don) de l' Ontario, Freda Landry (Steve) de St-Louis-de-Kent, Ernie Arsenault (Sharon) et Mary Ann Bertrand (Alain) de Moncton; quinze petits-enfants, huit arrière-petits-enfants, un arrière-arrière-petit-enfant, plusieurs nièces et neveux. Elle est précédée dans la tombe par son premier époux, William Geldart; son second, Andrew Cormier; ses frères et soeurs: Edgar, Ernest, Cyril, Jacqueline, Aurel, Edward; ainsi qu'un arrière-petit fils, Eric. La dépouille mortele est exposée au salon funéraire Frenette, 88, rue Church à Moncton (858-1900). Les funérailles auront lieu le lundi 9 mars 2009 à 11h en l'église Holy-Family à Moncton. DORIS LAW It is with great sadness that we, the family of Doris Law, announce her passing on Monday, March 2, 2009 at her residence at 550 Osborne St. in Fort Frances, Ont. Doris was born Aug. 2, 1917 at Insinger, Sask. to the late Nick and Mary Serediuk. She spent her younger years on the family farm there. In 1934, Doris married John Walter Law Sr. and the family moved to Mine Centre, Ont. During the more than 50 years there, Doris was an active member of the school board and worked many years at the Bliss Cabins. After the death of her husband, John, in 1985, Doris and her stepson, John Walter Jr., moved to Fort Frances, where she was a long-time member of St. George’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She also was a member of the Lesia Ukrainka and St. Anna’s groups of the Ukrainian Women’s Association of Canada, the choir, and helped out wherever needed. She worked many hours with the ladies of “the hall” getting ready for whatever caterings they were doing. She also was a member of the Rebekas, and an avid bowler. Doris’ favourite past time was to crochet, and was well-known for her beautiful work. Doris was predeceased by her brothers, John, George, Matt, Bill, and Tony; sisters, Katie and Helen; her husband of 50 year,s John Walter Sr. in 1985; her son, Mike, in 2002; and her stepson, John Walter Jr., in 2007. Doris is survived by her eldest son, Nick (Joyce) of Brandon, Man.; daughter, Doris McFee of Wainwright, Alta.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with prayers offered at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. The Very Rev. Father Dr. Oleg Krawchenko will officiate, with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances. Florrie Sybil Rahn (nee Lauzon), of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances at the age of 81. Florrie was born Oct. 16, 1927 in Nelles Township, Ont. to the late Antoine and Florrie Lauzon. Florrie worked for many years throughout the community, including the Emo Hotel, Husky House and the Fort Frances Hotel in Fort Frances, and Green’s Camp in Nestor Falls, Ont. Florrie’s fondness for country music and dancing will always be remembered. Spending time with her family meant everything to Florrie, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Florrie will be sadly missed by her children, Reg (Liz) Johnson of Burriss Township, Ont., Karen (Dennis) Pelepetz of Emo, Ont., and Doug (Sharon) Johnson, also of Emo, Ont.; grandchildren, Jeremy (Janel) Johnson, Kelly (Andy) Lengyel, Cindy (David) Poirier, Dwayne (Sue) Pelepetz, Laurie-lee Pelepetz, Brian (Sowmya) Johnson, Janene (Jay) Mosbeck, and Julie Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Colton Lengyel, Magen and Nicholas Poirier, Fabiana and Conor Johnson, Taylor and Brandon Pelepetz, Paige, Codey, Robin Vien, Mia-lee Wilson, Ariya and Sahana Johnson, and Cameron and Teagan Mosbeck. HUMANISKY, Elza 2009-03-05 Mrs. Elza Rose Humaniski age 91 years of Dawson Court was taken to heaven by the angels she so loved on Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Elza was born on June 8, 1917 in St. Boniface, Manitoba, and moved to Fort William with her parents at the age of five, and later moved to Baird. She attended St. Augustine’s Church, and it was there that she married Bill in 1939. Together they settled on John Street Road and lived there for over fifty years. After Bill’s passing in 1991, Elza moved to the Good Shepherd Village, and for the past four and a half years she resided at Dawson Court. Her main interests were her family and her church. She is survived by her children David and wife Pat of St. Catharines, Ontario (here now), Terry and wife Carol, Carol Ann and husband Glen Allison, and Tim and wife Kris, grandchildren Kim, Michelle, Laurie and Brad of St. Catharines, Wade, Wes and Kevin; and Lonnie, Cinnamon, Dillon and Mat, great grandchildren Alaina, Colin, Braden, David and Riley all of St. Catharines, and Gloria, Elizabeth and Jazmine; and one sister Alma Methot. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive, especially Eileen Prystay. Predeceased by her husband Bill Humaniski in 1991, parents Arthur and Elizabeth Daoust, sisters Eliza, Anne, Della and brother Eddy. BENNER, Sharon Lee (nee Howden) - January 25, 1948 - March 1, 2009 - Sharon bravely set out on her next adventure surrounded by her family at Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) in Trail, BC after a lengthy struggle with Wegener's Granulomatosis. She was a humanitarian who devoted her life to helping others. A volunteer with hospice, she graciously gave herself to charity, family, friends, and strangers with love, compassion and understanding. She was an athlete and world traveler, who loved life, nature and scrabble and corndogs at Gyro Park (and had a wonderful sense of humour to the end). Words cannot describe Sharon's incredible strength, spirit and determination; people were naturally drawn to her energy and light. She lived her life with great integrity and respect for others and was an inspiration to all who had the honor of knowing her. She was a beautiful soul. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by Barry, her husband of 41 years, children Keri and husband Tony, Blaine and wife Lisa, grandson Jace, sisters Alice, Hughena and Loretta, and all her family and many friends.A special note of gratitude to Dr. Jenkins and Dr. Zhang and the renal staff at KBRH for their endless compassion and care and above all, their courtesy and respect. He and Rose also opened the Steak House on Victoria Avenue in the 1950's and Papa Joe's Pizza. Joe worked for General Motors and Canada Catering at Cyanamid 4th Ave. Joe loved family time, music, dancing, and horse racing. FRAZER, Jean Iris (nee Jeffrey) At Stillwater Creek Retirement Home, after a long life filled with wonderful friends, on Monday, March 2, 2009, aged 88 years. Predeceased in 2002 by the love of her life, Wally, after 56 years of marriage. Survived by her three loving children Steve, Jim (Denise Reaume) and Laurie (Lenny Skuce), and by her sister and great friend Ruth Smith of Kanata. Predeceased by brother Lyle Jeffrey (Arnprior). Jean showed a great enthusiasm for life, whether staging plays in Nelson's barn as a child in Westboro, raising her family among a colourful group of friends on Edgeworth Avenue, enjoying the camaraderie of the Granite Curling Club or researching trips around the globe with Wally. She thoroughly enjoyed their retirement years, splitting their time between the York Trail crowd in Florida and summers at their cottage on the Big Rideau, Jean's happiest place on earth. We will miss her intelligence and wit, her selflessness, and her immense generosity of spirit. She was great fun to be around.
