Kim was an employee of L.H.S.C. for over 20 years and will be fondly remembered by her co-workers there. Born in Merridale, Manitoba to Harold and Betsy (nee Poyser) Belcher. William "Bill" Matheson 1926 - 2005 William George Matheson, of Riverview, passed away at the Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at the age of 78. Born in Dominion #6 (Donkin), Cape Breton, he was the son of the late Robert and Sadie (MacRae) Matheson. Bill began his 44-year career with the CNR in his teens as a clerk in the Glace Bay Express Office. Throughout the years he worked in Springhill Junction, Pictou, New Glasgow, Halifax and Saint John. He retired as Operations Manager, Intermodal, Moncton, in 1987. He attended Wesley Memorial United Church and was a member of the church men's club. He was also a member of the CN Pensioners Club, the Parkinson's Support Group, and he enjoyed curling, golf and bowling. Early in his career, he was a member of the IOOF Pictou. He had a special soft spot for all children and his many pets throughout the years, as well as the pheasants and other birds who flocked to his backyard. Endlessly kind and giving, Bill was a quiet, gentle man, highly regarded by his co-workers, fellow churchgoers, and, indeed, everyone he met. He was greatly loved by his family, who will miss him dearly. Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Betty (Godfrey); children Bill (Jane), West Dover, Dr. Leslie Matheson (Stephen Ritcey), Halifax, Arthur (Shalini) and Claire (Richard Fowler), both of Ontario, Karen (Tony Janik), Halifax, and Roderick, Riverview; his dearly loved grandchildren, Ian and Neil Matheson, Richard and Elizabeth Fowler and Alexander Matheson; sisters, Rodena (James MacLean) and Georgie MacDonald, both of Glace Bay, and Margaret (Garry Wilcox); brothers, Holmes (Sheila) and Grant (Nancy), all of Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary S. Rektor (née Sopuck) December 25, 1910 - May 23, 2005 Peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, Mary Rektor passed away after a short illness on Monday May 23rd at the Victoria General Hospital. During her 94 years, Mary enriched the lives of her family and those around her with her thoughtfulness, kindness, and generosity of spirit. Left to grieve her loss and celebrate her life are her sons Edward (Laurel) Rector of Winnipeg; Brian (Patricia) Rector of Regina; daughter-in-law Roberta Rector of Calgary; her grandchildren Kevin, Theresa, Lori, Willow, Wendaline, Stanley, and Javon, as well as several great-grandchildren. She is also sadly missed by her devoted sister Vera Derenchuk; loving brother Gerald (Anne) Sopuck; nieces Lisa Derenchuck and Joyce Queck; and nephews Vladimir, Paul, Leonard, Robert, Tim Sopuck and Vladimir Derenchuk. Sadly, Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Stanley, her brothers Vladimir and Joseph Sopuck, and recently by her eldest son, Roger Rector of Calgary. Mary was the first child of Mary and Joseph Sopuck and was born on December 25th, 1910 in the small town of Stramberk, Czechoslovakia. She immigrated to Canada with her family at age 13, and immediately went to work in order to help support them in their new lives, first in Ontario and then in Winnipeg. This experience impressed upon Mary the importance of family, a value that became the cornerstone of her life as she grew from a dutiful daughter into a loving wife and mother. She married Stanley Rektor in 1938, and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage before he died suddenly in 1982. Mary excelled in making a house truly a home, and she enjoyed nothing more than preparing and hosting holiday dinners. Her culinary skills were exceptional, and everyone had a favorite dish or dessert that she would be sure to make, just because she knew that it would please you. Mary also enjoyed needlepoint, gardening, reading, and in her later years, playing cards with her fellow residents of the St. Vital Knight’s Villa. Remaining strong and loving despite the difficulties of advancing age, her faith and trust in God remained a constant in her life, lighting her way through good times and bad. A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday May 28th at St. Emile Roman Catholic Church, 556 Ste. Anne’s Road, Rev. Rene Peeters officiating, followed by a reception in the church hall. Arrangements are being overseen by Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue, 949-2200. KARMOZYN, YVETTE M., 86, of Bradford CT, Pascoag, died May 21, 2005 at home after a long illness. Wife of John Karmozyn. She was born in Woonsocket, daughter of the late Frank and Dorina (Ladouceur) Anger. She and her husband owned and operated the former 'Johnny's Clam Spa' in Glendale for 40 years until retiring in 1979. Lived in Glendale most of her life moving to Pascoag 3 years ago. Member of St. Patrick's Rosary & Altar Society and of the former Glendale Volunteer Fire Department Women's Auxilliary, volunteer for the District Nurses in Pascoag and collected for the March-of-Dimes for many years. In 1928 she became The Woonsocket Call's first delivery 'papergirl'. She and her husband were inducted into the 'Burrillville Athletic Hall of Fame' in 2003 for hosting award dinners and receptions for many years. Survivors, besides her husband, include three sons, Robert and John 'Mike' Karmozyn of Glendale, William Karmozyn of Pascoag, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 104 Main St., Harrisville, RI. Pauline L. Biron, 70, of Island Pond, died at Brigham & Women¹s Hospital in Boston, Mass., on Thursday, May 19, 2005. She was born in Norton on May 30, 1934, the daughter of Louis J. and Leontine (Lavertue) Henry. Polly found her greatest joy in the company of her family and many friends. She loved cooking and bringing people together at the family cottage on Norton Pond. She also loved to walk the Head of the Pond Road with friends, kayaking, bird watching and reading. Pauline was a graduate of St. Paul¹s Convent High School in Stanhope, Quebec. She later attended Lyndon State College, where she studied accounting and business administration. In the 1970s, Polly was a freelance writer for the Newport Daily, the Caledonian-Record and the Burlington Free Press. She served on a number of boards, including the North Country Union High School Board, a 10-year term on the board of directors for North Country Hospital, the Brighton Planning Board, the Brighton board of selectmen, and was on the board of the Northern Counties Healthcare, Inc. at the time of her death. She served two terms as side judge for the Essex County Court and was also a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary Island Pond Post 80. In 1999 Polly retired from the real estate business after owning and operating Brighton Real Estate from 1988 to 1998. On June 27, 1953, Pauline was married to Clifford F. Biron, who survives her. She is also survived by her children, Major Mark Biron, U.S. Army, Cynthia Biron of Brookline, Mass., and Alexander Biron of Hollywood, Calif.; her brother, Franklin Henry of Norton; her sister Jeanne Henry of Norton; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her infant son, Christopher, in 1955; by her daughter, Lona, in 1966; and by her brother, Wilfred Henry. Friends called at the Curtis-Britch-Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Island Pond on Sunday, May 22, and funeral services were held on Monday. Interment followed at the Lakeside Cemetery in Island Pond. BALDWINVILLE -- Louis J. LeBlanc, 90, of 51 Hospital Road, Baldwinville, died Wednesday, May 25, in Baldwinville Nursing Home, Baldwinville, following an illness. Born in Gardner on June 3, 1914, he was the son of Pierre and Osithe (LeBlanc) LeBlanc.Mr. LeBlanc was a quality control inspector employed by Raytheon Co. of Andover for 23 years, retiring in 1979.He was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 129 of Gardner and A.A.R.P. and was a loyal fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox.Mr. LeBlanc was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and received the American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He leaves a son, Timothy J. LeBlanc and his wife, Sandra, of Gardner; a daughter, Virginia A. Beauregard and her husband, Charles, of Reading; two grandchildren, Robert and Amy Beauregard; several nieces, nephews and cousins. His wife of 57 years, Pearl C. (McKellick) LeBlanc, died in 1996. He was predeceased by five brothers, Alphonse, Alyre, Adelard, Arthur and Leo LeBlanc, and four sisters, Helen, Merilda, Yvonne LeBlanc and Delia Roy.LEBLANC -- On May 25, Louis J. Angelina Catherine Maggiore Melancon, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Canon Hospice at the age of 86 years. Angie was the beloved wife of the late Lee Joseph Melancon. Mother of Jesse Lee Melancon. Mother-in-law of Jeanne Veron Melancon. She was the daughter of the late Anna Mary Sartalamacchia Maggiore Narretta and Murphy Maggiore. Angie is also survived by three grandchildren, David Melancon, Brian Melancon and Elizabeth Melancon Kuchler; and five great-grandchildren, Madeline and Michael Melancon, Paige Melancon, Julia and Ellie Kuchler. She was preceded in death by her brothers: Joseph, Anthony and Murphy Maggiore. Angie was born on September 1, 1918 in New Orleans, LA, resided in Jefferson Parish for the past 56 years, and was in residence at Metairie Manor for the past five years. Her years there were a blessing that brought many friends and much joy into her life.
