ARMAS HAHKALA In loving memory of Armas Hahkala, 82, who passed away Monday, July 31, 2000 at his home in Miscampbell Township, Ont. He will be greatly missed by his children, Arlan (Maureen), Brent (Millie), Janice (Dirk) Kloss, and Anita Hahkala; grandchildren, Tara, Devan, Kaela, and Travis; sister-in-law, Minnie Hahkala; and many nieces and nephews. Armas was predeceased by his wife, Emma, on May 10, 1987; his parents, Isaac and Maria Hahkala; brother, Aarne; sister, Sylvia; and many friends. He was born Oct. 7, 1917 at the family home in Miscampbell. Armas provided janitorial services for many businesses in Fort Frances, he was a park ranger for the Eagle Lake Quetico area, and established the canoe route through Quetico Park with his friend, George. He was a talented musician who loved to play the fiddle. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cribbage, and spending time with his friends and family. Armas also was very fluent at speaking, writing, and reading Finnish. A memorial service was held Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000 at 10 a.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with Pastor Robert Ek officiating. Cremation has taken place at Riverside Crematorium in Thunder Bay, Ont. Honourary pallbearers were Art Mattson, Ed Hill, Aarnie Hahkala, Dave Gregory, Bob Bagacki, Vince Sheppard, Ed Kuitunen, and all of his friends. RANDALL DEAN ‘Randy” SISCO Randy Sisco, age 48, passed away suddenly and peacefully at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., on Thursday, July 27, 2000. Randy was the son of Bernice (Neilson) and the late Paul Sisco. Randy loved nature and gardening, and with his keen eyesight he became an expert on all wildlife in the area. His happiest times were spent on the four wheeler or in his truck, and he always had a happy child or children with him. Going to watch his nephews and the neighbour boys play hockey was a great enjoyment for “uncle” Randy. Minor Hockey was a great love of his. He worked hard for Ice for Kids, and served as manager and convener for the Minor Hockey Association. Randy loved carving, and he donated many of his beautiful decoys to Ducks Unlimited. The World Wildlife Federation in Regina, selected two of his carvings for auction where Randy was introduced to Prince Philip. Randy was also named Citizen of the Year for Alberton Township for his work. Randy was a modest man, and would have been embarrassed that the impact of his passing would so deeply affect the neighbourhood he loved. Randy helped raise the children of the neighbourhood, and he will be greatly missed by those who knew, loved and admired him. Randy is survived by his sister, Brenda (Lynn) Richardson, and Paula (Ernie) Tibold, all of Devlin, and his brothers, Clint and friend Kathy Oakes, and Ken (Brenda) Sisco all of Fort Frances. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 31, 2000 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton United Church in Stratton, Ont. Pastor Pat White officiated with interment in Pineridge Cemetery in North Branch, Ont. Visitation was held Sunday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, Ont. The pallbearers were Clint Sisco, Ken Sisco, Lynn Richardson, Ernie Tibold, Gordon Sisco, Dan Livingston and Clint Sisco Jr. The honourary pallbearers were Frank Redford, Donny Manty, Bob Wilson, Tom Koski, Raymond Roy, Kim Roy, Ed Wiersema, “Bud” Colleen Wiersema, and all his nieces and nephews. In memoriam donations may be made to “Ice for Kids”, 828 Sixth St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 1W9.

ERNEST GEORGE TOUGH It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ernest George Tough on Monday, July 24, 2000 at Deer Lodge Hospital. He was predeceased by both parents, William and Christina, his wife Blanche, sister Christine, and stepdaughter Louise. Ernie was a beloved grandfather to Jodi and husband Jamie, and Holly. Also a great grandfather to Joshua. He will be sadly missed by all, including long time companion Iona McCarthy, sister-in-law Vera Mosher, brother William and wife Sally and family, of Thunder Bay, Ont., nephew Walter and wife Gwen and family, of Winnipeg, Man. Ernie was born in Hamiota, Man. His family moved to Stratton shortly after and resided there. Ernie attended school in Stratton and worked as a handyman. He served as a gunner with The Royal Canadian Artillery, St. Catherine 8th Battery from 1942 thru 1945. He was awarded the following medals: 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, Clasp to CVSM, War Medal 1939-45, General Service Badge. He returned to Stratton after the war and worked as a helping hand on the Mosher farm and became close friend with the family, marrying Blanche Mosher in 1970. Ernie enjoyed spending quality time with his family and dear friends and enjoyed his hobbies, which included fishing, playing cards, curling and taming any wild beast that happened to cross his path. We will greatly miss his kind, soft spoken, gentle ways. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Stratton United Church in Stratton, Ont. Pastor Pat White will officiate with interment in Stratton Cemetery, in Stratton, Ont. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

JOE MARTINSON In loving memory of Joe Martinson, 84, of Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away peacefully in his sleep at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Saturday, July 22, 2000. He leaves behind his wife Peggy; sons, Terry and wife Mary of Fort Frances, Ont., Raymond and wife Joyce of Fort Frances, Ont.; daughter, Brenda and husband Allen Dolph of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Karl Martinson, Patrick Martinson, and David Dolph. He also leaves behind sisters, Alice Dowsett of Kitchener, Ont., Margaret and husband George Bartlett of Fort Frances, Ont., and numerous nieces and nephews. Joe was predeceased by his parents, Magnus and Margaret Martinson; brothers, Robert in 1985 and Norman in 1996. Joe was born on May 19, 1916 in Fort Frances, receiving his education at Robert Moore School and the Fort Frances High School. He lived here all his life except when serving overseas in Scotland and Europe during WWII. He was united in marriage to his wife Peggy on February 22, 1941. Joe worked in the mill stores for Boise Cascade for 31 years retiring in 1976. He was very active in the church and was also very involved with fundraising and promoting the Canadian Diabetic Association. He enjoyed gardening and tending to his flowers, he liked to work with his hands and could always be found doing something at the house. Joe loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who each had a special place in his heart. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 26, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances. Pastor Brian Keffer officiated with interment in the Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances, Ont. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff in the Continuing Care Unit at La Verendrye Hospital who took wonderful care of Joe. DONNA MARIE KHOBER Donna Marie Khober, 41, passed away July 11, 2000 in Prince George, B.C. She was born June 23, 1959 to Jim and Ethel (Babs) Khober. Donna is survived by her father and stepmother, Jim and Ethel Khober of Emo, Ont.; brother, David (Liana) Khober of Prince George, B.C.; sister, Fredna Servais of Edmonton, Alta.; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother, Ethel, and her brother, Jim. Memorial services will held Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in Emo. Lunch will be served following the service. Cremation took place in Prince George, B.C., and her ashes will be placed with her brother, Jim, in the Barwick Cemetery.

JOSEPH PAUL LAMBERT Joseph Paul Lambert, 83, of 425 Nelson St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2000 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. He was born April 4, 1917 in Rainy River, Ont. to the late Charles and Marceline Lambert. Mr. Lambert had lived all his life in the district, and had worked for many years with the Canadian National Railway. He was an avid curler and member of the Fort Frances Curling Club, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 in Fort Frances. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, and spending time at the lake. Paul was united in marriage Oct. 13, 1939 to the former Alyce Wonser, who survives with their three children, Ken and wife, Sally, of Kelowna, B.C., Sharlene and husband, Murray Beninger, of Fort Frances, and ReNae and husband, Randy Moran, of Kenora. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Tana and husband, Mel Langtry of Fort Frances, Rochelle and husband, Darcy Mosbeck, of Fort Frances, Murray Beninger of Fort Frances, Michelle Moran of Whistler, B.C., and Mark Moran of Kenora; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Langtry, Jillian Langtry, Ryan Mosbeck, and Tyler Mosbeck, all of Fort Frances; two sisters, Florence Couture of Winnipeg, Man., and Lorraine and husband, Doug Giles, of Rainy River: one brother, Joseph Lambert and wife, Alice, of Fort Frances; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marceline; brother, Emile Lambert; and grandson, Paul Beninger. A private family service will be held at a later date. JESSIE BORRETT Jessie Borrett, 83, of 120 Dorothy St., Atikokan, Ont., passed away peacefully Oct. 31, 2000 at the Atikokan General Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Jessie was born April 26, 1917 in Delisle, Sask. to the late John and Maud Wilkie. The family moved several times before settling in Rainy River District in 1924. On Dec. 19, 1934, Jessie was united in marriage to Alex Borrett in Barwick, Ont. In 1952, the family moved to Atikokan, where Jessie worked as a long-time employee of Eaton’s store. She was very active with her community work as a founding member of the Riverview United Church, U.C.W., and the Pioneer Centre. Family, gardening, and travel were the love of her life but the many friends with whom she played cards and went out for lunch, telephone calls, and visits filled her days with joy. Jessie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Marjorie Lambkin; granddaughters, Cindy (Jim) Maki, Margie (Rick) Campbell, Patricia Lambkin, and Cara (Mark) Chambers; great-grandchildren, Christi, Lisa, Aaron, Shawna, Dayna, and Fayth, all of Atikokan, Ont.; sister-in-law, Mable Gillies of Emo, Ont.; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Alex; her only brother, Bill Wilkie; and son-in-law, Glen Lambkin. Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 3, 2000 at 1 p.m. at Riverview United Church in Atikokan with Jeraldine Bjornson officiating. Interment is in Little Falls Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kent Gillies, Neil Gillies, Tom Chaval, Aaron Maki, Carl Sander, and Ted Parkinson. DIENNA MARGARET DAW Forever Loved Always Remembered It is with our deepest sorrow we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful mother, daughter, granddaughter, niece, cousin, and friend, Dienna Margaret Daw. Dienna was born Feb. 11, 1977 and was tragically taken from us Oct 29, 2000. She was born in Fort Frances, Ont. and was awarded “Snow Festival Baby” of the year. She attended school in Atikokan, Ont. and later in Fort Frances. She loved the country life, fishing, camping, and canoeing. She was a loving, friendly, outgoing, and a very outspoken young woman. She attracted many friends with her wonderful personality. She was always willing to help her friends and seldom asked for help herself. Dienna is survived by her adoring children, Kristina, four, and William (Billy), five months. She also is survived by her mother, Patsy Daw of Devlin; father, Stuart Daw of Emo; stepmother, Lori Daw of Emo; and brothers, Nicholas Daw, and Trevor and Scott Holborn. She also leaves to mourn her Grandma Lillian Ogier of Devlin, and Grandma and Grandpa Joan and Jim Daw of Barwick. Dienna also is survived by aunts and uncles, Harold and Gwen Ogier of Fort Frances, Phyllis Ogier of Fort Frances, Gary Ogier of Atikokan, Ronnie and Sandy Ogier of Devlin, Alan Ogier of Fort Frances, Joyce and Charlie Langton of Alberta, Ruth and Doug Cann of Emo, Joan Ogier of Devlin, Connie Cunningham of Emo, Bonnie and Barry Vanderhorst of Emo, and Greg Daw of Fort Frances. Also surviving are cousins, Bradley, Corey, Tara, Jason, Ronnie, Aaron, Edward, and Jessica Ogier, Angela, Clinton, and Crystal Langton, Jason (Claudette), Justin, and Ryan Alexa, Robert Daw, Amanda and Jared Cunningham, and Nicole and Eric Daw, as well as nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her mother-in-law, Suzie Tetu; sister and brother-in-law, Lori and Scott Clendenning, and Debbie Duffy and Tim McCormick. Dienna was predeceased by Grandfather Nicholas Ogier; and father-in-law, Jerry Tetu. Honourary pallbearers on her final journey were Nicholas Daw, Robert Daw, Amanda Cunningham, Nicole Daw, Eric Daw, Krissy Stevens, Tracy Whalen, and Lisa Webb. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Gospel Lighthouse in Devlin, Ont. In lieu of flowers, a trust fund has been set up at the CIBC in Emo, Ont. for Dienna’s children, Kristina and William (Billy). Where beauty lives, you’ll find her there. NELLA SIMONE BAKER In loving memory of Nella Simone Baker, 75, of Rose Manor, Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was born Jan. 6, 1925 in Pinewood, Ont. to the late Prosper and Georgina Davidson. Nella enjoyed Bingo, crocheting, and babysitting her great-niece, Danielle, and nephews, Travis and Eric. She was a very caring and giving person, who was always willing to lend a hand. She is survived by one brother, Leonard (Arlie) of Dryden, Ont.; three sisters, Verna Labelle of Thunder Bay, Ont., Theresa (Leo) Eberts of Wynward, Sask., and Eleanor (Don) Kuchma of Fort Frances, Ont.; and sisters-in-law, Irene Davidson of Sarnia, Ont. and Elsie Davidson of Thunder Bay, Ont. She was a very special aunt to Diane Grabowski, Wendy Woodgate, Penny, Kevin, and Ricky Kuchma, and Kathy Bois. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Nella was predeceased by her two brothers, Clarence and Fred Davidson; and three sisters, Delia Carpenter, Isabel Nilson, and Helen Davidson. A visitation was held Monday, Oct. 30, 2000 from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances, with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Fort Frances. Father Eugene Whyte O.M.I. officiated, with interment in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Frances. Pallbearers were René Davidson, Leo Eberts, Richard Davidson, John Morin, Ron Deschenes, and Kevin Kuchma. Honourary pallbearers were Gwen Bradley, Donna Mae Deschenes, Debbie Karpowich, Rosanna Gartley, and Rose Marie Morin. BERND (BEN) JOSEPH FREDRICK DOBRANSKY It is with deep-felt sorrow we announce the passing of Ben Dobransky on Oct. 22, 2000 at La Verendrye hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. Ben was born Jan. 24, 1949 in Stuttgart, Germany. Ben and his parents, Frieda and Josef Dobransky, immigrated to Canada in 1950, and settled in Fort Frances. Ben is survived by four brothers, Peter, Donnie, Michael, and Will; and sister, Heidi. Ben was married to Elizabeth (Betty) McQuaker on July 8, 1968. They have four children; daughter, Lisa Stone (Allan), granddaughter, Racine, step-grandchildren, Johnny (Sonya), and great-grandson, Christopher, and Michael (Lisa), and great-granddaughter, Jasmine; son, Shawn; son, Joey (Kari); and son, Benji (Myca), and granddaughter, Michaela. Ben worked at Quetico Centre, commercial cleaning, the C.N.R., and was very active in electronics. Ben was predeceased by his father, Joseph, on April 17, 1997. Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 27, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church in Rainy River, Ont., with Pastor Pat White officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000 from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Rainy River Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Granville Dyson, Allan Pennarun, Fred Foulger, Tom Kreger, Thomas Sinclair, and Garry Halverson. Juliette Lecours 1909 - 2000   & Denis Roy 1914 - 2002 Née à Piopolis le 8 juin 1909, fille de Elzéar Lecours et de Laetitia L'Heureux, Juliette Lecours a épousé, en 1946, Denis Roy, fils de Florida Legasse et d'Apollinaire Roy, né le 17 février 1914 à Pointe-Verte, au Nouveau-Brunswick. Ils mirent au monde un fils, Raymond, époux de Claudette Fréchette, d'Asbestos. Juliette est décédée le 9 juin 2000 à l'âge de 91 ans au Centre hospitalier de la MRC d'Asbestos après y avoir séjourné durant 14 ans aux soins prolongés et y avoir bénéficié des soins attentionnés dispensés par un personnel dévoué et compétent. Ses funérailles ont eu lieu en l'église Notre-Dame-de-toutes-joies, à Asbestos, le lundi 12 juin 2000. Son corps a par la suite été inhumé au cimetière d'Asbestos. Outre leur fils Raymond et son épouse, Claudette, ils ont laissé derrière eux, Leurs petits-enfants: Linda Roy (Sylvain Breault), d'Asbestos; Sylvain Roy (Annie-Christine-Duchesneau), d'Asbestos. Leurs arrière-petits-enfants: Valérie, Félix et Xavier. PETER MEDICINE In loving memory of Peter Medicine, 71, of Manitou Rapids, Ont., who passed away suddenly at La Verendrye hospital in Fort Frances, Ont. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000. Peter was born May 4, 1929. He lived all his life in Manitou Rapids and was employed in various occupations, including logging. Peter will be greatly missed by his children, Marvin, Sandra, and Irene; and his grandchildren. He also leaves behind his two sisters, Roseanne Leonard and Jean Bombay; and two brothers, Tom Medicine and Alex Medicine, all of Manitou Rapids. He was predeceased by his parents, Eva and Albert; and two sisters, Sarah Cowley and Violet Kelly. A wake will be held Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000 at the Manitou Rapids Gymnasium starting at 4 p.m. Traditional burial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Manitou Rapids Gymnasium, with interment in the Manitou Rapids Cemetery. Pallbearers were James Leonard II, Jamie Leonard, Tony Bombay, Greg Bombay, Gary Medicine, and Derek Horton. LANGLOIS, Robert Paul Joseph - August 13, 1932-May 13, 2004, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side. Muriel Ada Montgomery , of Markham Death: February 15th, 2000 Muriel Ada Montgomery died peacefully at the Markham Stouffville Hospital on Feb. 15, 2000. Mrs. Montgomery was predeceased by her husband Gordon, daughter Nancy and brother Orland Paterson. She is survived by son Wayne, daughters Bonnie and Faye, sister Helen Cobden and brother Ross (Marg) Paterson of Remi Lake. Also surviving are grandchildren Kyle and Todd Montgomery, Sabrina, Marion and Clark Baker. A private family service is being held today at the Dixon Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main St. N. in Markham. FRANS LUDVIG HAHR Frans Ludvig Hahr entered into eternal rest in his 95th year at the Sundre Hospital in Sundre, Alta. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2000. Frans is survived by his wife, Olga Maria (Persson); son, Alf and wife, Irene, of Sundre, Alta.; daughter, Ann Moore and husband, Bill, of Lynden, Ont.; grandchildren, Anne Marie, Dawn, Dennis, Kim, Kelly, Thesa, Ron, and Dan; great-grandchildren, Jenny, Andrea, Tara-Lynn, Kelsie, Angie, Jessie, Bobby, and Cheryl; and three great-great-grandchildren. Frans emigrated from Sweden as a young man and spent most of his life in Rainy River District. In his early years, he worked in lumber camps and tourist camps. Later, he was employed by Mando paper mill in Fort Frances, Ont. for many years. During his retirement, he enjoyed many hours at his beloved cottage (Sunset Hahr-bor on Footprint Lake), enjoying time with family and friends, fishing, boating, gardening, sea-dooing, and enjoying nature. He and his wife also spent four years in Comox, B.C., and lived in Sundre since 1990. Frnas will be lovingly remembered for his sense of humour by all who knew him. May he rest in peace after “fighting the good fight.” In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations would be greatly appreciated to the Mountain View Palliative Care Association, P.O. STEVE FADYK Steve Fadyk, 72, of International Falls, Mn., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at Valley Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz., where he was a winter visitor. He was born Jan. 13, 1928 in Fort Frances, Ont. to Mary and Harry Fadyk, where he grew up. He later moved to International Falls, where he had resided since. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during World War II. He was discharged Dec. 18, 1946 and returned to Fort Frances. He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was employed by Mando Paper Co. in 1950, and retired from Boise Cascade in 1990. On Oct. 2, 1949, he was united in marriage to the former Dorothy Pronak of Fort Frances, and they had just celebrated their 50 wedding anniversary in 1999. Steve enjoyed his grandchildren, travelling, and his lake cabin on Rainy Lake. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Peter Ross, Jerry (Mike) Ross, and William Fadyk; and sisters, Stella Fadyk and Anne Grizigoff. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of International Falls; sons, Stephen J. (Debra) Fadyk of Mayer, Mn., and P. Michael (Norine) Fadyk of Fort Frances, Ont.; grandchildren, Stefan, Nicholas, Anne, and Michelle Fadyk; and step-grandchildren, Jacqueline, Nicole, and Brain Renberg. Also surviving are his brother, John (Gloria) Fadyk; sisters, Patricia Scrimsaw of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Helen Valliquette of Douglas, Ont.; sister-in-law, Katherine (Laurence) Veert of Winnipeg, Man.; brother-in-law, Ed (Nancy) Topolnicki of Belle River, Ont.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 10, 2000 at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in International Falls. Cremation already has taken place. Interment will take place in Fort Frances on a later date. ELVERA ROULSTON Mrs. Elvera Roulston, 70, a resident of 275 Madeline St., passed away peacefully in Thunder Bay Regional Hospital (General) on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000 following a brief illness. Elvera was born in Fort Frances, Ont. She resided there until her retirement from nursing in 1986, then moved with her husband to Thunder Bay, where she was employed with Comcare until 1989. She enjoyed gardening, camping, needlework, and especially her home and family. Elvera is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Dennis) Bouchard of Mine Centre, Ont. and Coleen (Edward) Pruys of Thunder Bay, Ont.; two grandchildren, Shannon and Jeffrey Pruys; and sister, Annette Lagont of Nacogdoches, Texas. Elvera was predeceased by her husband, Gordon in 1989; parents, Molly and Alexander Lagont; and brother, Alexander. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, officiated by Rev. Lloyd Ivany. BLANCHE OGDEN On Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 at La Verendrye Hospital in Fort Frances, Ont., Blanche Ogden passed away peacefully. Blanche was born April 2, 1919 to Tom and Esther Bowman. She was predeceased by her husband, Allan; her parents; brothers, Robert and Wesley; and sister, Beatrice. Left to cherish Blanche’s memory are her son, Terry and wife, Barb; grandchildren, Alison and Jeffrey; sister, Leona Gosselin; and several nieces and nephews. Blanche lived an extremely active life, enjoying a variety of sports, with curling being her number-one choice. She curled herself, travelled to several world championships in Canada, the United States, and abroad, and watched televised games with a keen interest. Her grandchildren were very dear to her. She spent her entire life in and around the Rainy River District, and lived in her own home until her recent illness. Special thanks to Dr. Naylor, her close friends, Red Cross Home-makers, neighbours, and extended family members. Visitation was held Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 from 7-8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. FRANK R. WILLIAMS Frank R. Williams entered into rest at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay, Ont. on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000. He was the beloved husband of Donna Williams; loving father of Mike and wife, Alison, of Calgary, Alta., and Patti and husband, Bruce Atkinson, of Grimsby, Ont.; and loved grandfather of Jaime, Jeffrey, Alex and Daniel Williams, and Drew and Ben Atkinson. Frank also is survived by his sisters, Dorothy (the late Jim) Mitchell, Marion (Bill) Gow, and Shirley (Walter) Avis. BERNICE CLAIR HUBER Bernice Huber, 66, of Fort Frances, Ont., passed away suddenly Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000 at her residence in Fort Frances. She was born March 3, 1933 in Camper, Man. to the late Rudy and Lillian Busch. She moved to Fort Frances in the 1950s to work as cashier for a local grocery store from Winnipeg. She will be long remembered as the owner-operator of Mac’s Confectionery from 1963 to 1973. On Dec. 21, 1953, she was united in marriage to the late Charles DeGagne. On July 27, 1974, she was united in marriage to the late Albert Huber. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Huber on Jan. 9, 1996; son, Marc DeGagne in 1973; sister, Joan Zacharias in 1994; and brother, Garry Busch. Bernice is survived by her daughter, Betty Ann and husband, Roy McTaggart, and their daughters, Claudia and Tracy, all of Redmond, Wash.; stepson, Cliff Huber and Shelly of Kakabeka Falls, Ont. and their sons, Brian of Thunder Bay, Ont., and his son, Tyler, of Calgary, Alta., and Bradley of Calgary, Alta. EDNA BEATRICE CHRISTINA ROBAR Edna Beatrice Christina Robar, born April 13, 1936 in Rainy River, Ont., passed away suddenly at McKellar Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000. Edna started her career as a waitress at the Arthur Café in Fort Frances, and from there she worked at Halvorsen’s Camp on Lake of the Woods. She then took time out to raise her family until she continued her career by working at Rainycrest Home for the Aged and in the kitchen at La Verendrye General Hospital. She enjoyed spending many hours cross-stitching and gardening, and she thoroughly enjoyed her morning coffee get-together with her friends. She was always there for her family, and her highlights were visits from her children and grandchildren. Edna was predeceased by her father, David Vantassel; mother, Violet Cliver (Selman); and sister, Margaret Scott. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her five precious children, David Robar of Fort Frances, Debbie (Dale) Coughlin of Thunder Bay, Donna (Dave) Kroocmo of Atikokan, Dwayne (Vikki) Robar of Fort Frances, and Denine (Doug) Richard of Atikokan. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Tracy (Dave) Mose, Amanda and Craig Coughlin, Tanya, Serena, and Kristen Kroocmo, Shaun, Nathan, and Stephanie Robar, and Neil and Nicholas Richard; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Courtney, and Alexis Mose. Thelma was born Sept. 28, 1920 in International Falls, Mn. She was united in marriage to Ronald on March 7, 1940. She spent most of her life on the family farm in Burriss, moving to Rainycrest in March, 1998. Thelma enjoyed knitting and sewing, and when she was younger was an avid baseball player for the Burriss women’s team, a member of the Burriss Women’s Institute, and Burriss Ladies Aide, as well as a 4-H leader. Thelma loved her family very much, and her grandchildren were extremely important to her. A visitation was held Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000 at 11 a.m. at Green Funeral Home, with Rev. Patrick Playfair officiating. GEORGE SIEMENS George Siemens, 77, passed away at St. Thomas Hospital on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born Feb. 4, 1922 in Stanley, Man. WILLIAM EDWARD WILLIS In loving memory of William Edward Willis, 77, of 109 Marks St., Atikokan, Ont., who passed away peacefully at the Atikokan General Hospital on Friday, Jan. 7, 2000. William was born Feb. 22, 1922 and reared in Emo, Ont. He served overseas in W.W.II from 1939-46 in Sicily, Italy, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. He was decorated with several medals, and following the war, spent a few months in Czechoslovakia, then returned to Canada in 1946 and settled in Emo. In 1951, he moved to Sapawe, Ont. and worked for J.A. Mathieu as a truck driver, then in 1954, he moved to Atikokan and worked at Gillon Mines as a heavy equipment mechanic. In 1955, he settled in Atikokan with his wife, Annie. William enjoyed fishing and hunting, and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #145. William is survived by his wife, Annie Willis of Atikokan; children, Rodney (Zoe) Willis of Atikokan, Keith (Anne) Willis of Barrier, B.C., Dwayne (Gay) Willis of Leaf Rapids, Man., and Sharon Willis of Kamloops, B.C.; stepchildren, Robert (Sheila) Thorson and Donald (Patricia) Thorson, both of Eva Lake, Ont.; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Audrey Locking of Rainy River, Ont., Dorothy Matousek of Wisconsin, Mary Kuharski of Fort Frances, Ont., Shirley (Edwin) Morphet of Montreal, P.Q., and Jim (Doris) Willis of Ironridge, Ont. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Rose Willis; and by four brothers, Gordon, Robert, George, and John. NORMA HOUGHTON Mrs. Norma Houghton passed away Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000 at Rainycrest Home For The Aged in Fort Frances, Ont. She was born in King, Ont. on April 30, 1910 and lived for many years in Lefroy, Ont. She completed her Registered Nurse’s training in Toronto and New York City. She married husband, Roy, on Dec. 25, 1936 and they spent 58 years together. Norma and Roy moved to Fort Frances in 1945. While living here, she continued her career nursing at La Verendrye Hospital on a part-time basis. Eventually, however, she entered the field of Social Work and for many years worked for the Children’s Aid Society. Many of the children and parents she assisted with adoptions and other family situations continued to correspond with her throughout the years. Although small of stature, her upbeat attitude and love of mankind (especially children) will be remembered by family and many in the community. Norman was predeceased by her husband, Roy, on July 4, 1994. She is survived by son, Brian and wife, Karen, of Fort Frances; daughter, Anne and husband Bill, of St. Louis, MO.; and foster daughter, Alice Mark and husband, Walter, of Toronto. She also is survived by four grandchildren, Butch Selman and wife Lori, of Minneapolis, MN., Lisa Huber of St. Louis, MO., Melanie Lehman and husband David, of Marissa, IL., and Brad Houghton and wife Tracy, of Thunder Bay, Ont., and seven great-grandchildren. At Norma’s request, there will be no memorial service. REGINALD (REG) GALLAGHER Reginald (Reg) Gallagher, 87, passed away April 25, 2000 after a brief bout with cancer. He was born at Rocky Inlet on Oct. 6, 1912 and enjoyed his life in Rainy River District. Gallagher means eager helper, and this described Reg in one word. He called himself a Jack-of-all trades. Never too busy to help a friend, throughout his life he was always happy to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. His honesty and integrity earned him the respect of everyone who knew him. Reg worked as a screenman in the Fort Frances paper mill for 48 years, retiring in 1977. His greatest pleasure was going up to the lakes, and he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying the time he spent hunting and fishing, whether he caught anything or not. In his younger days, he played baseball and hockey, as well as a pretty good fiddle. He watched Fort Frances change and grow throughout his lifetime, and had many interesting stories to tell. He was a kind and caring man who sported a good sense of humour and endless patience. Reg was united in marriage to Ruby Van Drunen on Feb. 2, 1952 and had one daughter, Marlene, several years later. He was a gentle husband and a wonderful father who will be deeply missed. Reg was predeceased by his only brother, Hugh; his parents, Thomas and Edith Gallagher; mother and father-in-law, Annie and Anton Van Drunen; and two brothers-in-law, Anton (Dempsy) Van Drunen and Henry (Hank) Van Drunen. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; daughter, Marlene Thomas (Jeffery Sanders) of Atikokan; 10 grandchildren, Mellisa (Lindsey) Rogoza of Fort Frances, Micheal Gallagher of Fort Frances, Crystal Sanders of Brandon, Man., Kirk and Patrick Sanders of Atikokan, Ont., James, Reginald, and Neena Thomas of Watrous, Sask., and Paul and Randy Sanders of Atikokan, Ont.; as well as his sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, Marg and Gordie Woollard of Emo, Ont., and Lil Van Drunen of Burriss, Ont. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and Reg will be missed by good friends, Len and Barb Cournoyer and Michelle. Memorial services were held Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Knox United Church in Fort Frances. ARTHUR STRAND Arthur John Strand, 64, of Thunder Bay, Ont., passed away unexpectedly at Port Arthur General Hospital in Thunder Bay, Ont. on Saturday, April 22, 2000. He was born Dec. 14, 1935 in Fort Frances, Ont. and had lived many years in Fort Frances. Art enjoyed hunting and fishing and, in his earlier years, worked as a guide on Rainy Lake. He was known for having a good memory and loved to tell stories from years ago. Art was an avid hockey fan having played in his earlier years. He often spent time at the arena watching hockey games and visiting with the players. The family includes his mother, Gertrude of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister, Shirley and husband, Gerald Nixon, of Fort Frances, Ont.; two brothers, Bob Strand and wife, Ann, and John Strand Jr. and wife, Rosmairi, all of International Falls, MN.; and aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, John Strand Sr. on Feb. 27, 1966. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 5, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home. Rev. Patrick Playfair will officiate, with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers will be all of Art’s friends. EDITH JEFFREY In loving memory of Edith Jeffrey, age 76 years, of Dryden, who died in the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, March 28, 2000. Edith is survived by her husband of 52 years Ed Jeffrey whom she married June 19, 1947, her daughters: Robbie (Melvin) Brannan, Linda Byer, April (Dave) Saunders, and Sandy Baxter, by 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as by one brother and five sisters. Edith’s parents John and Jessie Hyatt, one sister and three brothers predeceased her. Born in Big Fork, Ontario, Edith lived in the Fort Frances area for 68 years. While there she was a member of the Big Fork Community Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Emo Royal Canadian Legion. She moved to Dryden in 1992 and joined the Dryden Royal Canadian Legion. She served with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps from November of 1943 until January of 1946. Edith was a dedicated wife and mother and she enjoyed time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved gardening, fishing, sewing, quilting, her roses, picking berries, canning, bingo and gambling. Funeral services for Edith Jeffrey were held Saturday, April 1, 2000 at 2 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel with Rev. Carl Triskle officiating. Interment followed in the Dryden Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, March 31, from 2-6 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel. JOSEF (JOE) LUDWIG SCHAUM Josef (Joe) Ludwig Schaum, 62, of Devlin, Ont., passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000 at the Emo Hospital in Emo, Ont. after a long struggle with cancer. Joe was born March 18, 1938 in Germany to Anna Maria and Josef Schaum, and immigrated to London, Ont. at the age of 16 with his family. In 1980, he moved to Rainy River District and was noted for his work in the field of construction, especially for his skill as a heavy duty equipment operator. Joe was predeceased by his sons, Joseph in 1977 and Thomas in 1998; and his parents, Anna Maria and Josef Schaum. He is survived by his brothers, Carl (Margrit) of Fort Frances, Ont., and Helmut (Hilde) of London, Ont. Also surviving is his daughter-in-law, Angelique of Mississauga, Ont.; nephew, Carl P. Schaum (Debbie) and their children, Jessie and Carly, of Emo, Ont.; niece, Doris Temple (Larry) and their children, Justin, Jonathan, and Jennifer of Stratford, Ont.; niece, Caren Siegfried (Tim) of Rochester, Mn.; niece, Ingrid Schaum and her daughter, Sarah, of Devlin, Ont.; nephew, Marcus Schaum of London, Ont., and niece, Martina Angell and her son, Shane, of London, Ont. ALICE VIOLET HORLEY Alice Violet Horley, 96, of Edmonton, Alta., passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000. She was born in England on Oct. 22, 1903. The family came to Canada in 1905 and resided in Hamilton until 1919, then moved to Rainy River District. She married Francis Harold Horley on Sept. 12, 1923 and they lived in that part of Ontario until 1980, at which time they moved to Edmonton to be closer to their family. Violet is survived by her loving family, her son, Jack and daughter-in-law, Nettie; grandsons, Garry (Janis) Horley and Randy (Barbara) Horley, all of Quesnel, B.C.; and five great-grandchildren. She also will be missed by her sister-in-law, Edna Clarke in Ontario; numerous nieces and nephews in Ontario, B.C., and Alterta; and by her very special long-time friend, Mary Geyer of Edmonton. Violet was predeceased by her husband, Harold, in 1984; by her brother, Ted; and two infant daughters. A memorial service was held Thursday, March 30, 2000 at 1 p.m. at Laurier Heights Baptist Church (Fireside Room) in Edmonton. Dr. David Spate officiated. Cremation has taken place, and a graveside service will be held at the family plot in Fort Frances, Ont. at a later date. Special thanks go to the wonderful, caring, and understanding staff of the Special Care Unit at the South Terrace Continuing Care Centre. NORMAN WESLEY KABATAY In loving memory of Norman Wesley Kabatay, 28, of Seine River First Nation, Ont., who passed away at his residence Monday, March 20, 2000. Norman was born Oct. 3, 1971 in Fort Frances, Ont. He lived in Seine River for most of his life but enjoyed travelling. He liked to play baseball and hockey, and other sports. He also enjoyed hunting, firefighting, trapping, and fishing. Norman enjoyed music, especially country music, and spending time with his friends. He also was a volunteer firefighter for Seine River First Nations. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children. Norman will be greatly missed by his parents, Ben and Virginia Kabatay; children, Samantha Kabatay, Adam Scott Kabatay, and Douglas Wade Boshkaykin; brothers, Glen Johnson and family, Gerald Johnson and family, Jeffrey Johnson, Anthony Kabatay and family, and Floyd Kabatay and his daughter; sister, Susan Johnson and family; uncles, Jack Johnson, and Sam Kabatay; aunts, Agnes Kabatay, Margaret Kabatay, and Agnes Spencer; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family. He was predeceased by both his paternal and maternal grandparents; brother, Clayton Philip; sisters, Sandra Denise and Anita Lynn; and numerous aunts and uncles. A traditional funeral ceremony was held Saturday, March 25, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Kabatay residence in Seine River First Nation. Elder Garnet Counsillor officiated, with interment in the Seine River First Nation Cemetery. BLANCHE RITA EDGAR Mrs. Blanche Rita Edgar, 67, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2000 in Port Alberni, B.C. She was born May 26, 1932 in Crozier, Ont. She was predeceased by her second husband, Dave Edgar; children, Ivy, Johnny, Fern, and Gail; parents, Albert and Aurore Chabot; and siblings, Teresa, Fernand, and Art. GLADYS EVELYN STEELE Gladys Steele, 79, of 1010 Fifth St. E., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital on Monday, March 13, 2000. She was born Feb. 18, 1921 in Fort Frances to the late Frederick and Nora Alton. Gladys lived most of her life in Fort Frances. As a Registered Nurse, she had worked in Winnipeg, Man. and La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances. On Sept. 2, 1944, she was united in marriage to Glen Steele. In 1970, they moved to International Falls, Mn., where they resided until returning to Fort Frances in 1979. Gladys enjoyed her summers at their island cabin on Rainy Lake. Over the years, she also enjoyed knitting baby outfits for the Ladies Auxiliary. Her interests included bowling and playing cards with her friends as a lifetime bridge club member. Gladys also was a member of Knox United Church and the U.C.W. Her family, especially the grandchildren, were the biggest part of Gladys’ life. She was predeceased by her husband, Glen, on Feb. 23, 1992; one sister, Delores; and one brother, Fred. Gladys is survived by her two daughters, Glenda and husband, Neil McGregor, of Thunder Bay, Ont., and Pamela Steele of Coquitlam, B.C.; two sons, Tom Steele and wife, Bev, and Mervyn Steele and wife, Donna, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and three grandchildren, Robert Steele of Dryden, Ont., Paul Steele of Thunder Bay, Ont., and John Steele of Winnipeg, Man. Also surviving are her two brothers, James Alton and wife, Rohonalda, of Fort Frances, Ont., and Delmer Alton and wife, Elaine, of Abbottsford, B.C.; one sister, Patricia and husband, Clifford Beauregard, of Atikokan, Ont.; and several nieces and nephews. JONATHAN KENNETH CLEAVELEY Jonathan Kenneth Cleaveley, 67, passed away peacefully with his wife and family at his side in the Atikokan General Hospital on Saturday, March 11, 2000 after a brief bout with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by Gloria, his wife and companion for 45 years; daughter, Laurel and husband, Ed Halvorsen, of Fort Frances, Ont.; son, David and his wife, Rita, of Dryden, Ont.; and grandchildren, Jennifer and Andrew Cleaveley. Also surviving are two sisters, Joan Wolfe of Calgary, Alta., and Ruth Brown of Winnipeg, Man.; and his brother, Bill of Sudbury, Ont. John was predeceased by his parents, Albert Cleaveley in 1966 and Grace Cleaveley in 1979. Cremation has taken place. BETTY VOGES PEOPLES In loving memory of Betty Voges Peoples, who passed away May 28, 2000 in Kennewick, Wash. She was born in Mine Centre, Ont. on Feb. 12, 1940. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Louis A. Voges and Gladys Mary Cain; and her husband, Ray. Betty married Raymond Eugene Peoples on July 28, 1958 and together they had seven children, 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. They made their home in Sherwood, Ore. until 1976, when they moved to the Tri-Cities. Betty was employed at Manufacturing Services in Kennewick, where she had worked for the past 20 years. Betty attended the Word of Faith Center and the Cathedral of Joy in Kennewick. She was active in the women’s ministries at Cathedral of Joy. Betty is survived by her children, Ronda Vega and Cindy Dixon of Kennewick, Wash., Cathy Peoples of Corona, CA., Chris Peoples of San Diego, CA., John Peoples of Spokane, Wash., Jim Peoples serving in the Armed Forces in South Carolina, and Patty Jones of Richland, Wash. BERNA ‘FAY’ NORRIS Berna Norris, 86, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, 550 Osborne St., Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at her residence on Saturday, July 29, 2000. She was born on Dec. 31, 1913 in Burriss, Ont., to the late Glen and Susan Norris. Berna lived in Burriss most of her life. For enjoyment, she loved to sing, and attend church services. Following her mothers passing, she moved to Emo to reside. After her father passed away, she moved to Fort Frances where she has lived since. She was predeceased by one sister, Dela Soleen. Berna is survived by one sister, Verda Beadle of Fort Frances, Ont.; one niece, Glenda McMahon of Fort Frances, Ont.; and by four nephews, Norval Beadle, and Ron Beadle and wife Gwen, all of Fort Frances, Ont., Don Beadle and wife Carla, of Peterborough, Ont., and Charlie Soleen and wife Shirley, of Port Erie, Ont. PAUL KITZUL In loving memory of Paul Kitzul, 80, of Fort Frances, Ont., who passed away Friday, Oct. 6, 2000 at his home. Paul was born June 12, 1920 in Insinger, Sask. He worked as a shift boss at the mine in Lynn Lake, Man. After retiring, he and his wife Lina, moved to Fort Frances, settling in their house on Second Street. In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, and spending time outdoors. GLADYS ARMSTRONG In loving memory of Gladys Armstrong, 83, of Rainy River, Ont., who passed away at the Dryden Regional Health Centre on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000. Gladys was born Aug. 29, 1917 in Hazenmore, Sask. to the late Isaiah and Ethel Huntley. Gladys moved to the Bergland area in 1931. Later, she was united in marriage to Charlie Armstrong. Gladys worked as a cook at Red Deer Lodge in Nestor Falls for 17 years. She then worked at Handberg’s Camp at Crane Lake, Mn. for seven years. After her retirement, she helped in the kitchen at the Legion in Rainy River. She enjoyed visiting with her many friends at the Legion. Gladys was predeceased by her husband, Charlie Armstrong, on Feb. 14, 1979; her sisters, Muriel Bylund, Florence Nixon, Bessie Bennet, Hazel Larson, Elsa Wrolstad, and Jean Lundquist; her brothers, Chester, Percy, Morris, Frank, Walter and Norman; her grandson, Murray Oleksiw, and two-great-granddaughters, Renee Beaudoin and Meranda Kaus. Gladys is survived by three daughters, Jean Morton and her husband Roy, of Dryden, Ont.,, Gertie Venne and her husband Gerald, of Shebandowan, Ont., and Darlene Kaus of Rainy River, Ont. Also surviving is one brother, Jack Huntley and his wife Irene, of Fort Frances, Ont. LEONARD ‘LEN’ ANGUS Leonard “Len” Angus, of Colonization Road West, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances on Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000. He was born Sept. 27, 1914 in Burriss Township at home to the late Earnest and Edna Angus. He resided in Burriss Township until moving to Fort Frances in 1994. Len grew up on the family farm and at an early age, he started working in the logging industry. He eventually established his own logging and gravel contracting business. In 1950, he purchased a Drott Skid Loader, which was one of the first hydraulic loaders in the district. Over the years, he logged in the Wasaw/Boffin Lake area, Manitou Sound on Rainy Lake, and south of Flanders. As a young man, he was an avid baseball player with the “Burriss Hayseeds” and after his retirement, he took up golfing and curling. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Len also was a member of the Manitou Lodge at Emo. Len was united in marriage Nov. 18, 1939 to the former Violet Chaval, his wife of 61 years, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Gary and wife, Lorna, of Dryden, Ont., and Brian and wife, Wendy, of Fort Frances, Ont.; and his four grandchildren, Julie and husband, Bob Morrice, Jamie and fiance, Elaine Jaggar, and Melissa and Sarah Angus. He also is survived by his two sisters, Anna Mose of Emo, Ont., and Helen Hyre of Fort Frances, Ont.; one brother, Derward Angus and his wife, Helma, of Fort Frances, Ont.; sister-in-law, Mary Strachan of Abbortsford, B.C., and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents predeceased him. Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000 at 2 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Patrick Playfair officiated, with interment in Burriss, Ont. A Manitou Masonic Lodge service was held prior to service time. Friends visited from 1 p.m. until service time at Green Funeral Home. Honourary pallbearers were his nephews, Ray Mose, Leslie Mose, Wilbur Mose, Marvin Mose, Don Angus, and Larry Angus. In memoriam donations may be made to Riverside Foundation for Health Care, c/o La Verendrye General Hospital, Fort Frances, Ont., P9A 2B7. À l'hôpital Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci, le 29 décembre 2000, à l'âge de 92 ans, est décédé J. Lucien (Luke) Bertrand, époux de feu Alice Leclerc. Il était le frère de feu Roland (feu Marguerite Dupuis), Dr Léopold R. (Marguerite Guertin), feu Jean O.M.I., Rita (Roland Lanthier), Henry (Thérèse Dagenais), René (Marthe Garneau), feu Guy (Lily Doyle) et Noëlla. Il laisse également plusieurs neveux, nièces, parents et amis. Retraité de la Banque Royale oÀùÀ il a travaillé pendant 44 ans, Gouverneur 1980-81 et membre actif du Rotary International, fondateur et membre de nombreuses chambres de commerce du Canada et membre de l'Association municipale de Ville-Mont-Royal. La famille recevra les condoléances au Complexe funéraire Urgel Bourgie 1255, Beaumont, V.M.R. Les funérailles auront lieu le samedi 6 janvier 2001 à 11 heures en l'église St-Joseph de Mont-Royal, 1620 Laird, V.M.R., et de là au cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges. Au lieu de fleurs, des dons à la Fondation de l'hôpital Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci ou à la Fondation du Rotary International seraient appréciés. Marshall, Norman Passed away at the Woods Park Care Facility in Barrie on Thursday, May 13th, 2004. Norman Marshall in his 85th year was the beloved brother of Beatrice Ruzyski of Sault Ste.
