EMERY, Robert Henry (Bob) Born December 31, 1949, passed away at the age of fifty-nine on November 9, 2009 after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Bob was born in Westbury, England and moved to Montreal in 1974, where he followed his career as a Quantity Surveyor and home renovations contractor.Those who knew him well will remember how meticulous and creative he was with his hands; not only a great builder, but a wonderful cook, and a talented musician. With the ability to make light of even the most difficult of situations, his sense of humour is something that will be deeply missed. He is survived by his partner Judy, sons Daniel and Benjamin, close friend Robert Scully, and his family in England - father Desmond, sister Mary, nephews, nieces, extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly and are thinking of him from near and far. He is predeceased by his mother Ethel and brother John. For all those who wish to pay their respects, a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 14 at St. Edmund's Parish, 105 Beaconsfield Blvd., in Montreal. McCULLEY, Virginia Ethel (nee Loach) Passed away at home on November 9, at age eighty-six. Survived by her loving husband of fifty five years, John, and daughters Heather (Michael Teixeira) and Caroline. Virginia graduated as an R.N. in 1945 and served as a nurse at a number of hospitals until retiring to raise a family. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by her family. TRUSTER, Selig (Sol) Peacefully on November 11, 2009 at Baycrest Hospital, 91 years of age. Spouse of the late Rose Truster (nee Caplan). Survived by many loving family members including sons Eric and Paul, sister Simma, nephews Perry Truster, Sholom Wargon and Bernard and Kenneth Cowan and nieces Avivah Wargon and Louise and Eleanor Goldhar. Served his country in the RCAF, 1942-1945. Award-winning artist/designer and outstanding student of Arthur Lismer, who helped him obtain his first full-time position in commercial art during the Great Depression. Exhibited at the Art Gallery of Toronto (1937). Warmest thanks to Dr. Fabio Varlese, Dr. Gilly Rosen and the other physicians and staff at Baycrest Hospital and Baycrest Home for their expert and compassionate care and attention. MORELAND, William Alexander (Bill) Died November 7, 2009 in Stittsville at the age of 90. Bill was predeceased by Eunice who died just last month. Bill and Eunice married in Woodstock, Ontario in 1943. They had shared 66 years together. Bill volunteered for service with The Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII and was a loyal and long-time member of The Royal Canadian Legion and was a member of The Woodstock Navy Club. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his daughter Elizabeth Anne Douville and husband, Rene, of Richmond, Ontario, his daughter Carol Susan Martin and husband, Darcy, of Bonfield, Ontario, his four grandchildren, Matthew and Justin Barratt, and Karron and Kimberley Pitt. Dear brother of John Isaac of Woodstock, Ontario. Predeceased by his brother Fred and sisters Florence Pattinson and Lorna Lightheart. SHALLA, Isadore Xavier 1921 - 2009 WWII Veteran Peacefully on Monday, November 9, 2009. Isadore will be greatly missed by his daughters Sharon (John) and Sandra (Sheldon). He was predeceased by his beloved wife Yvette (nee LaFrance). LANOUE, Dorothy (nee Butler) April 18, 1924-Nov. 10, 2009 Passed away peacefully, just the way she lived, surrounded by loving family and friends. Re-united with husband Gilbert (2000) with whom she celebrated 56 years of marriage. Survived by eight sons. Patrick (Patti), Richard (Jennifer), Ken (Jane), Marc (Veronica), Joe (Sherry), Mike (Cindy), Gil (Janice), Chris (Carole). Eighteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren will miss their grandma. Predeceased by sisters Helen Paquette, and Lillian Dunn. Dorothy was a long time member of the Catholic Women's League and St. Simon and Jude Parish. Together with Gilbert they took an active role in Canadian politics and attended many functions. With a family of eight boys she was an excellent chef with a welcoming smile and a full array of dishes. The Canadian Cancer Society will miss her tireless efforts for their fund raising events. Working hand in hand with Gilbert from their home, they founded Lanoue Insurance Brokers. A legacy which continues to this day. As an expression of sympathy, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society. JOHN BARRINGTON ABEL (1924 -- 2009) Passed away suddenly, at home, surrounded by friends and neighbours, on November 8, 2009. He was married for sixty two years to Barbara Anne (nee Kelk). He is survived by his sons Bruce (Colleen), Robert (Barbara), Donald (Dawn) and Michael as well as seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by his brothers Keith and Robin of England and survived by his sister Daphne, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their children in England. John was born in London, England and emigrated to Canada during WWII. He was an avid skier into his eighties and enjoyed Craigleith Ski Club as well as many trips to Aspen and Switzerland. He ran his own sales agency for over thirty years and is a life member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association. John found time for gardening, bridge and afternoon tea with a sticky bun every day at 4 p.m. He was a keen member of the Beaver Winter Club as well as The Loyal, Ancient and Honourable Order of The Unicorn. John loved to spend time at Lake of Bays more than anywhere else. A Memorial Service will be held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Avenue West (two lights west of Yonge Street), on Sunday, November 15 at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. WILLI JULIUS MINGRAM Passed peacefully at the Rouge Valley Health Centre surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 7, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Romana and his children Peter (wife Dorethy, children Michelle and Kelly), Margarete (husband Steve, children Cody and Monika) and Bill (wife Melissa, children Noah and Olivia). DONALD JAMES SAMPSON (Retired Staff Sergeant of the Metropolitan Toronto Police) Passed away at Minden Hospital on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the age of 64 years, due to heart failure. Beloved husband of Margot (nee Wise) for 40 years. Proud and cherished father of Scott (Michelle Mueller), Jennifer (Pat Casey) and Ryan (Christa Suttie). Loving Poppa of Regan, Parker, Reese, Kiera and Charlotte. Dear brother of Johanna, Lionel, Aileen and Barbara. Lovingly remembered by his Aunt Dolores, Uncle Aidan and his many cousins in Ireland. Don was a man who was devoted to his family here and abroad. He had a special place in his heart for all children and was usually the biggest kid in the room. He retired to Haliburton after a successful career in the Metropolitan Toronto Police Service and enjoyed all the outdoor activities it had to offer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. ROBERT (BOB) SCOBEL After a short but courageous battle with cancer and with Penny by his side, Bob died peacefully on November 7, 2009 at the age of 67. He is survived by his loving wife Penny, son Greg (Lisa), daughter Pam Koblun and four grandchildren Aaron, Kendall, Kyle and Cheyenne. Bob enjoyed a lengthy career as an account manager in the packaging industry. He was active in many sports during his lifetime. More recent interests included curling, lawn bowling and golf, but he especially loved to ride his horse and participate in local team roping events. He had many true friendships and will be missed by all. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff of the Carpenter Hospice for their care and compassion. They would also like to thank relatives and friends who provided support during this time. WILKINS, Stella - (formerly Mercer, Abrams, Hunter) Following a valiant battle with cancer, Stella passed away peacefully at home, with her friends by her side, on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, age 70 years. Survived by her daughter Holly Myers; sister Candace Wilkins-Slabysz; niece and nephews Vance and Karen Matheson and Christopher Wilkins. Predeceased by her sisters Ellen Wilkins and Diana Matheson. Stella gave much of her working life as a dedicated Nurse at Sunnybrook Hospital, later she was a co-founder of a successful business known as Roach Remover Inc.
