HOARE , Thomas Harvey With great sorrow we announce that Thomas Harvey Hoare took his last breath at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 just nine days after his 92nd birthday at the Rockyview General Hospital. After a distinguished and decorated career (DFC) as a fighter pilot with the RCAF during WWII he graduated in 1946 from McGill University in geology, he met and married Martha eventually making his home in Calgary. As in life, this remarkable, stoic and energetic man left with great dignity and grace. Beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and enduring friend to so many, it seems all who met this man were instantly charmed. Tommy is survived and will be remembered by his loved ones; son Michael (Jacqueline) Hoare; daughter Martha Thomas, grandchildren Sarah (fiance Shaun), Katherine, David, and Stephen; as well as sister Arlene (Gary) Bradley. He was predeceased by his wife Martha Balfour; grandson Mitchell Bradley; brothers Oliver, Donald, and Allen; as well as parents Thomas and Lena. MacKINTOSH , Arthur Douglas 1971 - 2009 Master Corporal Doug MacKintosh passed away in Brandon, Manitoba on May 19, 2009 at the age of 38 years. Doug will be sadly missed by his wife Teryl; his children Chloe, Matthew, and Mac; his extended family members; and his many friends. He was a loyal husband, dedicated father, and proud member of the Canadian Forces (Army Reserves). In life, Doug will be remembered as level headed and cool under pressure. His dry sense of humour and dedication to family will be missed. MITCHELL , Dustin March 26, 1971 - May 23, 2009 It is with great sadness, but great peace that we bid our beloved son and brother farewell until we meet again; Dustin was taken home unexpectedly as the result of a tragic vehicle accident doing what he loved - helping friends. His willingness to always help anyone in need touched the hearts of all who knew him. Dustin would give his last dollar to anyone who needed it. If wealth could be judged in friendships, he was a wealthy man indeed. He had a tremendous love and understanding of animals which was always evident. REID , Esther Ruby It is with sadness that Esther's family announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at the age of 88 years. Esther was predeceased by her husband Thomas James (Jim) Reid in 2004. She will be lovingly missed by her daughter Barbara (Dave) Kolskog; three sons Brian (Terry), Bruce (Margot) and Bradley; nine grandchildren, Jon (Rawane) Kolskog, Jennifer (Sean) Barr, Joanna (Lloyd) King, Scott Reid, Cori (Tim) Alcorn, Kimberly (Martin) Peek, Kristen (fiance Erik Johnson), Cameron Reid and Katrina Reid. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Connor, Noah and Alethea Barr; Tye and Kianna Reid; and Nolan and Sara Alcorn; as well as her dear brother-in-law, Bob (Virginia) Reid; and numerous other relatives and friends. ZEALEY , Michael Eric Charles July 29, 1930 - May 24, 2009 Michael Zealey, aged 78, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary on Sunday, May 24, 2009 after a forty year struggle with MS. He is predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Fred, his brother Ken and his sister-in-law Doreen. CARTER, Helen Marjorie - A resident of Ridgetown, H. Marjorie Carter passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Tuesday May 26, 2009 at the age of 88. Following her retirement, she worked on five overseas projects in Africa and South Pacific with the Retired Teachers Federation. McEWEN, Herbert Andrew February 11, 1928 - May 27, 2009 - Herbert Herb Andrew Joseph McEwen passed away at the age of 81 years, after a brief illness, in Thessalon, Ontario on Wednesday, May 27, 2009. Herbert is survived by his daughter Marcia McEwen; granddaughter Bridget (Tyler) Speelman and great grandson Jaxson Speelman all of Lethbridge, Alberta. He is also survived by his brother James (Audrey) McEwan of Norland, Ontario and sister Edith (Jerry) Sullivan of Sault Ste. Marie. Following the war he was a Lay Preacher in his church, and in 1951 immigrated to Canada. Ron graduated Queen's University in Kingston (1956) in Theology, and served various charges; Matheson, Jarvis, Thorold and London, ON. He served on several Boards including Chairman of Hamilton Conference, Chairman of Niagara Presbytery, Past Master of Mountain Lodge #221, Chaplin with the U.S. Airforce - Ramore Base, Chaplin with Monteith Prison Farm and Chairman of the Thorold Ministerial Association. LOGHRIN, Ann Elisabeth - Following a heroic confrontation with a brain tumour, Ann Elisabeth Loghrin of Lion's Head, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, with her family at her side. Ann was the daughter of Helena Jorna and the late John Jorna. She was born in Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, and emigrated with her family to live in Stratford. She is survived by her husband and best friend Bill Loghrin, her mother, brothers Mike Jorna (Betty), Sid Jorna (Rosemary), John Jorna (Lucy) and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. Ann applied her artistry to the operation of her own Beauty Salon, and, after moving to Lion's Head, to becoming a self-taught computer expert, and to tending to flowers and plants at the garden centre. She generously shared her talents with family, friends, and neighbours. She will be dearly missed. Her summertime passion was enjoying long cruises with Bill and their pets on their sailboat “Taliesyn”. Ann will be missed by the extensive sailing community that spends summers in the bays and anchorages of the North Channel. Funeral arrangements include visitation at the DAVIDSON CHAPEL, 71 Main Street, Lion's Head, from 2 to 4 pm, and from 7 to 9 pm on Thursday May 28 2009. WORKMAN, Edna Katharine - Formerly of Port Colborne, Edna died peacefully at her home in Huntsville, Ontario on May 22, 2009. She had joyously celebrated her 88th birthday one week earlier. She is survived by daughter Anne and her husband, the Ven. Howard Hawes of Huntsville; Clarke and his wife Thanh Kim Le of Calgary; Craig and his wife Susan of Port Colborne. She was dearly loved by her grandchildren Jessica and Teagan Workman of Port Colborne. She is also survived by sister Jeanette Davis Antkowiak (Edward) of Williamsville, N.Y. and Graeme (Heather) Ott of Port Colborne, and one niece and five nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Donald in 1992, their daughter Katharine in 1975 and her parents Doris and Ernest Ott in 1982. Edna was a member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Huntsville and a lifetime member of the Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society, the Port Colborne Museum, and the Mack Nurses' Alumni. As well as nursing, for many years she enjoyed making artistic wreaths and floral arrangements. Edna's beautiful spirit touched the lives of many people and she will be greatly missed by friends and family. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Port Colborne.
