SALMOND, Joan Marie (nee Schrauben) - Of Cloyne, passed away with her family by her side at the Kingston General Hospital on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 in her 77th year. Pre-deceased by her loving husband Donald in 2006. Cherished mother of Vici, North Bay and Paula of Cloyne. She will be sadly missed by her brothers William, James (Kay), Peter (Joan), all of Michigan, and her sisters Mary Jane Sammons of Florida and Donna (David) Hawkins of Arizona. Survived by her sister-in-laws Hilda Salmond, Kaladar and Marilyn Salmond of Cloyne. Fondly remembered by her extended family and friends. SITTER, Paul Richard - Paul Richard Sitter, age 52 of Sarnia, passed away, surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 5, 2009 after a two year battle with cancer at Bluewater Health. He leaves behind his wife Mary (Stevens) and two children, Travis (Sarnia) and Sarah (London), his mother Helen (Robbins) and brother Michael (Cathy). He is predeceased by his father Vern Sitter (2000). He is survived by his mother-in-law Hazel Stevens, sisters-in-law Cathy, Elizabeth (Ted) and Shelly, brother-in-law Pat (Alice) and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Cremation will follow. Family and friends will be received on Monday, February 9, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sarnia. Mr. Kenneth Firth Carter, husband of Lorna (Sullivan) Carter of Villa Maria Nursing Home who passed away early Friday morning at his late residence, at the age of 71. Born in Kouchibouguac NB, he was the son of the late Firth and Edith (Randall) Carter. He was retired from the Dept of Transportation. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church, Kouchibouquac NB. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Besides his wife Lorna, he is survived by one daughter; Gloria LeBlanc of Kouchibouguac NB; two sons; Kevin (Phyllis) of Kouchibouguac NB; Ross (Betty Jean) of Kouchibouguac NB; five sisters; Marie Colpitts of Kouchibouguac NB; Barbara Tweedie (James) of Moncton; Alice Peterson of Shelburne NS; Noreen Gardener (Joe) of Kouchibouguac NB; Edna Flanaghan (Lloyd) of Beersville NB; three brothers; Winston of Kouchibouguac NB; Charles (Thelma) of Kouchibouguac NB; Edward (Joan) of Napan NB; eight grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by one sister; Marion Smith; two granddaughters; Tamar Faith Carter and Emily Jean Carter; one son in law; Francis LeBlanc . Mr. Kenneth Firth Carter rested at Kouchibouguac Pentecostal Church with visitation on Saturday evening from 7 to 9 and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The Funeral Service was held Monday, February 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. from the church, with Pastor Wayne Munn and Rev Lester Mitchell officiating. Opening of Service and Reading of Obituary was by Bro Wayne Munn-(present Pastor). Remarks and Prayer was by Rev. Donald Arbeau (Brother-in-law). Two songs "Sunset" and "Suppertime" were by Edward Carter (Brother) and Janice Munn (Niece). A eulogy was read by Kent Carter (Grandson). Song "Praise you in this storm" was by grandchildren Kent and Karleena Carter. A poem was read by grandson Marcus LeBlanc. Memories written by Grant Carter were read by Bro. Munn. Pianist Rev. Brent Carter led the congregation in "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms", "Into My Chamber", "In the Sweet Bye and Bye" and "Wait Till You See Me". The message was by Rev. Lester Mitchell (friend and former pastor) Burial will be in the church cemetery later in the spring. GROOT, Alex "Lex" January 30, 1919 - February 5, 2009 Alex "Lex" Groot, beloved husband of Cheryl Groot of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Alex was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on January 30, 1919. While in his early thirties, he immigrated to Canada and ran a successful business in Montreal as a consultant to the North American candy industry. Alex was an expert on chocolate and consumed amazing amounts of it through his life. He will be remembered fondly by children of family and friends for always having lollipops in his pocket to share with them. In 1979, Alex relocated to Calgary and became a familiar figure striding through his N.W. neighbourhood. Besides being fluent in Netherlandish, German, English and French, he relished surprising people in his travels with a few phrases in a multitude of languages. Alex was deeply interested in other people and their cultures and had a passion for history. Alex was active for many years in Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship. He gave very willingly in service of the Lord's work. After their marriage in August 2005, Alex and Cheryl enjoyed wonderful cruises together, most notably a trip up the Amazon to celebrate his eighty-eighth birthday. Alex was a man of real discipline who did everything up to the highest standards he was capable. Alex leaves to mourn, his wife Cheryl, and was predeceased by his beloved mother Alida, father Gerrit, and brother Jan. KRAAG, Naadi We are sad to announce that on Saturday, January 31, 2009, two days before her 88th birthday, Naadi died peacefully at home in Ottawa. She was born in Loksa Estonia and lived most of her life in Toronto. Beloved wife of the late Arnold Kraag and dear mother of Michael (Cindy) and Gunnar (Marilyn). Cherished grandmother of Dustin, Travis, Scott (Erin) and Sheila Hodges (Steve). Great-grandma to Ellie and Jamie who brought her great joy. Naadi is predeceased by her sister Celia Lewis (Jack) and survived by her sister Trudy Reitav (Valentin) and many nieces and nephews. KEATING, Helen (nee Wadden). It is with great sadness and love that we announce Helen's peaceful passing at home at the age of seventy-two on February 4, 2009. Helen was predeceased by her parents, Mildred Harris and Benjamin Wadden and brothers, Martin-Thomas, George, Baby Vincent, Arthur, Walter, Benny and sister Georgina. Helen is survived by brothers Melvin (Rita), Stephen (Doreen), Vince (Ann) and sisters Mary (Ray), Gladys and loving sister-in-law Pauleen (Arthur). Outre sa famille religieuse, elle laisse dans le deuil son frère Gilles (Gilberte Prud'Homme) et une belle-soeur Cécile Charbonneau (feu Florent) ainsi que des neveux et nièces. JARDINE, Robert 2009-02-07 It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mr. Robert Daniel (Dan) Jardine, age 81, of Lakeshore Drive, Thunder Bay on Thursday, February 5, 2009 at the TBRHSC. Dan was the 3rd child of Edward and Doris (nee Courtney) Jardine. Dan was born in Detroit Michigan on June 9, 1927 and was raised in Maple Glen, NB. His life in Ontario began in Toronto, working for Consolidated Transport in 1950. He commuted between NB and ON until settling his family in Dorion in 1959 and later to Nipigon in 1965. He worked for Doug Watty Trucking in Dorion, and then for Domtar, Great Lakes Forestry and the MNR for many years driving trucks, heavy equipment and building roads to some of the best fishing holes in the Thunder Bay district. After leaving employment at Great Lakes, he ran his own Sawmill in Geraldton in partnership with Russell Fex. He also worked as security for Anaconda Mines in the Nakina area, which greatly expanded his fishing territory. He leaves as his legacy more than 60,000 trees that he personally financed to be planted in the Nipigon area. He worked until he was 70 years of age maintaining roads with Jim Nichols Trucking. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, in Red Rock and a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 32 in Nipigon. He was an accomplished trapper, receiving many awards for his works. Fishing and hunting were a major part of his life. Many stories were told around the campfires at Elizabeth Lake, Frazer Lake, Lake Nipigon, and Dan‘s Ridge. Predeceased by his twin sons Merlin and Melvin in 1950, his parents Doris and Ed, and his brothers Norman and Clayton, and many inlaws from New Brunswick. He leaves to mourn his wife of nearly 60 years Shirley (Loggie), children Linda (Roy) Cross, Wanda (Jim) Logan, Velma Jardine (John Cameron), Joan (Mark) Hardy and Brian Jardine (Jody Nuttal). 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by his siblings Edna, Marion, Joyce, Arthur, Stanley and Lesley and sister-in-law Agnes. Many well loved nieces and nephews also survive. A celebration of Dan‘s life will be held at the Current River Community Centre, 450 Dewe Ave., Thunder Bay at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 10, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northern Cancer Research or Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.

McMAHON, Joyce Ann (nee Purdie ) Peacefully at the Ottawa General Hospital on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in her 52nd year. Beloved wife of David. Loving mother of Liam. Cherished daughter of Ruth and the late David Purdie. Dear sister of Brian, David and the late John. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joyce's Life will be held at the Glebe Community Centre, 175 Third Ave. on Sunday Feb. 8 from 1 to 3 p.m. Joyce had a great love of community and worked hard over the years on behalf of the Glebe as secretary to the Glebe Community Association (GCA) and coordinator of the GNAG house tour, as a volunteer at Mutchmore and Glashan Schools, and as the registrar for Ottawa Centre Minor Hockey. She was deeply touched by "Team Joyce", over a hundred people who ran in her honour during the most recent CIBC Run for the Cure, raising $13,000 in the fight against cancer. FLEMMER, Harold January 19, 1931 - January 31, 2009 Harold H. Flemmer, of Calgary, passed away at Rockyview General Hospital on January 31, 2009 at the age of 78. Harold was born in Walsh, Alberta and spent his entire career of fifty years with the Canadian Pacific Railway as Supervisor of Track and Manager of Track Programs, a position he was chosen for by committee from over one hundred other supervisors and officers. Harold supervised the track construction at the Alyth Yards in Calgary from 1968 to 1970. He developed the Maintenance-of-Way training program that was adopted by CPR and CNR in 1978. Harold believed in the value of hard work and was an inspiration to all. In 2003, Harold was inducted into the Canadian Railway Hall of Fame. Harold was a kind and generous man and committed to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Freda, his two daughters, Brenda Todesco and Connie (Malcolm) Achtman, two granddaughters, Tanya Shaw (Chris) and Terri Todesco, and two great-grandsons, Damon and Desmond. Harold will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at the Glamorgan Church of God, 4715 - 45 St. S.W. in Calgary. She passed away in the care of many doctors at Foothills Hospital on January 31, 2009 in Calgary, Alberta. Ratan Kaur was born in Phagwara, India in 1933 and was married to Sqn. Ldr. Joginder Singh Bains in 1951. Upon marriage she relocated to Lehli Kalan District Hushiapur, India until 1982 when she migrated to Canada with her family. She is survived by her loving husband and two sons: Satpal (Parveen) and Harpal (Sonia) along with two daughters Narinder (Sukhdev) and Simerjeet (Bhagat). PEURAMAKI, Hannah 2009-02-05 Mrs. Hannah Kathleen Peuramaki age 77 years passed away suddenly, but peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 in St. Joseph‚s Hospice. Hannah was born on February 10, 1931 in St. Joseph‚s Hospital, and had lived most of her life in Port Arthur. She was passionate about books, reading, travelling and education. She enjoyed the outdoors, nature and animals, including her many porridge-eating dogs over the years. She enjoyed travelling with her grandchildren to experience Europe. Hannah graduated from Port Arthur Collegiate in 1945 and upgraded her education by returning to school in 1973, graduating in 1975 with her son Grant from Hammarskjold High School. She was committed to issues of social justice and equality. One of the last things Hannah insisted on doing was watching the recent US Presidential Inauguration. Survived by children Marla (Glenn Brown), Lois (Ian Vickers), Grant (Sharon), Kevin (Lynn), Stephen (Therese); grandchildren Meaghan, Caitlin, Sarah, David, Lily, Michelle, Liam, Emily, Jaime, Kathleen, Rhiannon and Jesse; also great grandchildren. Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive in Canada and in Finland. Predeceased by her husband Kalervo "Bob" Peuramaki, parents Ville and Aino Kainulainen; brothers Yrjo "George" Kainulainen, Leo Kainulainen and two brothers in infancy; sister Hilja Tamminen and nephew Don Tamminen. Funeral services for the late Mrs. Hannah Kathleen Peuramaki will be held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 1:00 PM in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma with Pastor Dan Repo officiating. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for friends will be on Thursday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM in the Everest Chapel. FORSTMEYER, Jeanie Johnston October 5, 1919 - February 3, 2009 Jean passed away at the age of 89 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Lawanda (Jim) Neilsen and Sandy (Brad) Helfrich, and her grandchildren Tyler, Brittany, Tanner, John, Grant, David and Blake. Jean will always be remembered for her feisty spirit, her athletic ability, her sense of humour and most of all for the love she had for her family and friends.
