CROTEAU, Leon Joseph December 22, 1924 - December 30, 2008 Leon Joseph Croteau, beloved husband of Odellia (nee Heisler) of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Leon is survived by his loving wife, Del; his sons, Garry and Bernard (Wendy Eastgaard); his daughters, Debra and Judy Lynn; his sisters, Florilda, of Pontiex, SK, RoseAlma, of Swift Current, SK and Roseanna, of Prince George, BC. Leon also leaves behind his five loving grandchildren; John Croteau, Robert Armstrong, Amanda Armstrong, Keaton Eastgaard-Croteau, Maddison Eastgaard-Croteau; and three great-grandchildren, Keiya Raine, Damien Robert, and Channelle Annette; numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Leon was predeceased by his father, Gideon Croteau; his mother, Amanda (nee Boulet) Croteau; brothers, Gerard, Louis and Hirmidas; sisters, Anna, Margaret, Matilda, Ernestine, Rosilda, and Leontine. LAMPORT, Dorothy Jean 1944 - 2008 Dorothy, beloved wife of Bill Lamport of Balzac, AB, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre, Calgary on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the age of 64 years. Besides her loving husband Bill, Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her son Brad (Christine) Lamport. She is also survived by one brother Harold Girletz and one sister Viola Jones as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, Dave and Anna and two brothers Laurence and Wilf. Farming and Family were her life and she will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Dawn Nelson officiating. OWOC, Teresa "Renia" Aleksandra September 21, 1937 - December 25, 2008 Teresa Owoc passed away at peace with God on Christmas Day 2008, the day of her 50th Wedding Anniversary, after a two-year battle with cancer. She will be always lovingly remembered by her husband Bogumil and her daughters, Liliana in Poland and Izabela in England. As well, she will be remembered by her sister Elzbieta and brothers Andrzej and Krzysztof in Poland; by her lovely grandchildren, Pola in Scotland and Kasia and Tomek in England, and by her numerous friends. Teresa was born in Poznan, Poland. Together with her husband, Bogumil and younger daughter, Izabela, she immigrated to Canada (1982) through Austria (1981). In addition to her European education (technical college, graduate and diploma) and twenty years of professional experience, she completed numerous courses at SAIT, the U of C, and Mount Royal College. In Calgary, she worked for Brian Doods & Associates and Fluor Daniel Canada as a draftsman, assistant designer, and assistant engineer. In her work, she showed exceptional technical ability and intuition. She also devoted her time to working with the sick and elderly at the Salvation Army and at COMCARE Canada in Calgary. Teresa was always energetic and enthusiastic - a born leader, hard-working and humble. She was a sensitive and caring person of a delicate physical disposition. Teresa was concerned not only by pressing and important matters but also by smaller, seemingly insignificant details. Throughout her life, and fifty year marriage, she initiated numerous projects which she passionately pursued. She invested a great deal of herself in all that she did and asked the same commitment of others. Teresa rushed to complete her many plans as though intuitively realizing that she would not have enough time to accomplish all that she hoped to. As a naturally modest person, she would often say: "Small is beautiful. However, big does not need to be splendid." Teresa lived her first seventy years without ever being admitted to a hospital. And she was admitted to a hospital for the first time in May 2007 after having been diagnosed with advanced cancer. She accepted her incurable illness with courage and dignity. In 2008, she and her husband celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary and received warm wishes and congratulations from many friends and relatives. They also received official congratulations from the Governor General of Canada, the Prime Minister of Canada, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, and the Premier of Alberta. Dearest Teresa, may the Lord keep you in his care. It is with profound sorrow that your husband, family and friends bid you farewell. PORTER, Myrtle Florence May 9, 1928 - December 29, 2008 Myrtle Florence Porter passed away peacefully at the Southwood Care Centre on Monday, December 29, 2008. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ronald (Ella) Porter, Robert (Marsha) Porter, William Porter and Donna (John) Schumacher; six grandchildren, Troy, Cory, Susan, Alan, Scott and Derrick; five great-grandchildren as well as two brothers, Donald (Kay) Currie, Allan (Glennis) Currie; two sisters, Bernice Ertmoed and Norma (Ron) Seegar and their families. PRZECZEK, Reinhold (Bill) October 6, 1919 - December 27, 2008 Reinhold Przeczek, beloved husband of Herta of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Reinhold was born in Sternberg, Czechoslovakia. Reinhold immigrated to Canada in 1940 and homesteaded in the Tupper Creek/Tomslake area of British Columbia. He enlisted in the Canadian army in 1941 and served first as a shooting instructor and later, while overseas, with the Canadian Intelligence Service. After returning to Canada, Reinhold married Herta Mayer on September 14, 1946. Shortly thereafter he joined the Calgary Police Service becoming the first officer of non-British decent to be hired by the service. After rising through the ranks, Reinhold retired as an inspector on May 28, 1978 with thirty-two years of service. Never one to let the grass grow under his feet, Reinhold was active with the Calgary Highlanders, the International Police Association and the Calgary Police Veterans Association. He also travelled extensively, played a mean game of bridge, and volunteered as a White Hatter at the Calgary International Airport. Loving him and missing him are Herta, his wife of sixty-two years; his daughter Mary Ann; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Corrinne de Zoete of Cranbrook, BC; his granddaughters, Kara of Prince George, BC and Nicola of Edmonton, AB; and his stepbrother Frank Richter of Calgary, AB. MORRIS, Albert “Rex” 1923 - 2008 - Passed away suddenly and without suffering, at Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Rex was retired from a career with Noranda Mines Ltd. Working in ventilation engineering and later the foundry division. His love and passion for the game of golf was exceeded only by his love for family and his country. Rex is survived by his beloved wife Mary, daughter Gayle Morris of Kingston, son Gary and his wife Linda Morris and grandchildren Vanessa and Joshua all of Peterborough. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Mag) Morris and sister Rebecca Downing. He is predeceased by his brothers John, Lee, Rollie and Harvey and his sisters Irene and Mag. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Waterloo Wellington CCAC, the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre, the staff of Freeport Extendicare, Dr. Paul Ian Denbeigh, and to Rob and the staff of ERB & GOOD for their care and compassion during such a difficult time. TURENNE, Valérie (Poulin) - Valérie Turenne passed away after a very brief illness at the Algonquin Nursing Home in Mattawa on Monday, December 29th, 2008 in her 84th year. She was predeceased by her husband Harvé Turenne in 1995. Valérie is survived by her loving children Georges (Jessie) Turenne of North Bay, Céline (Real) Gagnon of North Bay, Carmen (Roger) Boudreau of Mattawa, Gaëtan (Françine) Turenne of St. Eustache, Québec, and Nicole Turenne (Dale Harrison) of Mattawa. She is survived by her grandchildren Tammy Boudreau-Bangs (Sean), Kevin Turenne (Rhondi) and Lisa (Éric) Lavigne, and her great-grandchildren Evan Bangs, Kiersten Turenne and Myles Lavigne. She is also survived by her sisters Alice Martin and Jeanne Labrosse. Predeceased by four sisters and one brother. She will be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Family was very important to Mom and some of her happiest times were spent with them. During her time spent at Algonquin Nursing Home she made many friends and enjoyed participating in activities. MCIVOR, Justin (Jut) - December 16, 1913 - December 23, 2008 - of The Berkley, 5244 Green St., Halifax, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 23, 2008, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Newton, P.E.I. on December 16, 1913, he was a son of the late Peter D. and Margaret (McKenna) McIvor. Justin worked for the Canadian National Railway (CNR) for over 40 years, first starting his career on the CN Marine Ferry (S.S.Charlottetown) traveling from Prince Edward Island to New Brunswick. He served overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War, stationed in Belgium, England as well as Germany. After retiring from the CNR, he spent some time with the Corporation of Commissionaires, as well, he was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 142. Gardening, traveling to their summer cottage, and visiting family friends in Prince Edward Island brought him and his wife great comfort and joy. Justin will be sadly missed by all who knew him and whose lives he touched. Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Eunice "Mary" (McCarvill), Arborstone, Halifax; sons, Paul (Tamara) and Kevin (Aileen), both of Halifax; brother, Eugene (Teresa) Newton, Prince Edward Island; sister, Ita (Gerald) Smith, Ontario; grandchildren, Jason (Kellie) McIvor, Halifax; Chara (Steve) Mural, London, Ont.; Kimberly McIvor, Montreal, Que.; Daniel McIvor, Halifax. Mr. Cyril Lancelot Purcell April 24, 1914 - December 24, 2008 94, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving wife of 44 years, Gertrude "Trudy", and his loving family. Born in Dartmouth on April 24, 1914, he was a son of the late Lancelot Purcell and Rose (Mosher) Purcell. He was a loving husband, father and granddad. He served overseas in the Second World War in France, England, Belgium, Holland and Germany with the Fourth Armoured Division from 1943-1946. He was member of the 31st Somme Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. After returning from Europe, he worked at Imperial Oil in Eastern Passage and then worked at Canada Post, retiring in 1978. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying gardening, fishing, hunting and loved bird-watching. He also enjoyed skating, curling, and bowling. Mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family and he adored his four precious grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Trudy (Shunahan); sons, Stephen (Carla), Terry (Denise); grandchildren, Nicholas, Kayleigh, Gabriel and Dylan. He was predeceased by sisters, Vera Hansen and Nina Purcell and brother, Walter Purcell. Visitation from 7-9 p.m. December 28 and memorial service at 11 a.m. on December 29 in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Ivan Gregan officiating. 1926 - 2008 Following a brief illness, Monica Langen-Pirie of Kilburn passed away at the Upper River Valley Hospital on December 15, 2008. Born in Gladwyn, NB on September 6, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary (McQuade) Sullivan. Monica leaves behind her husband Alton Pirie; her sons Roger Langen (Veronica) of Toronto, Scott Langen (Trudy) of Cambridge, ON, Ron Langen of Vancouver, BC; Alton's children, Theodore of Fredericton, Cecil of Perth-Andover, Connie of Perth-Andover, David of Hinton, AB, Andrew of Bathurst, Beverly of Hope, BC, Phillip of Tilley, Kevin of Presque Isle, Evelyn of Bairdsville, Alan of Rowena, and Laurie of Upper Kent; her sisters Marie Dionne (Alex) of Arthurette, Mareta Sullivan (James) of Topeka, KS; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband George Langen. Monica was a retired School Teacher. She was also a member of the C.W.L. Funeral service was held on Friday, December 19, 2008 from the St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. Father Gilbert Doddatto officiated. Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Red Rapids. Music for the service was by organist Bob Inman, guitarist Marshall Fournier and soloist Linda Sprague. "Amazing Grace" was sung by Mary McCann. The eulogy was given by Monica's son, Roger Langen. Pallbearers were Peter Sullivan, Jason Langen, Carl Bowmaster, Andrew Pirie, Brian Ouellette, Burn Langen and Gary Ruff. 1923-2008 Elva Kelly passed away peacefully at Campbellton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family members on December 19, 2008. Elva was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, August 28, 1923. She was one of fourteen children, the daughter of Frances Roy and Henry Boucher. She often spoke fondly of her childhood, and her siblings growing up on a small farm in Rough Waters. Elva is predeceased by her husband Lawrence Kelly. They made their home in Campbellton where they raised five children, Sharon Winkel, Seattle, WA, Wayne Kelly, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Maynard Kelly, Moncton, New Brunswick, Linda Kelly-Turner, Dominican Republic, and Gwen Kelly, Moncton; eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. She was especially proud of her great grandchildren Sarah and Olivia Winkel Rosoff. Elva also had a special relationship with her dedicated caregiver Charlene Lecouffe. Elva was a wonderful mother, who worked hard for her children, frequently putting her children's needs in front of her own. She was passionate about the issues she believed in and instilled in her children a strong sense of right and wrong. She had a keen sense of humor, which could see the ironic or humorous side. She had a long career at Sears, as Manager of the Service Department. She prided herself in providing excellent Customer Service and made lifelong friends with her co-workers. She will always be in our hearts and minds. The funeral mass was held from St. Thomas Aquinas Church Campbellton on Tuesday December 23rd at 11am. Father Bill Arseneault officiating. Interment at the Parish Cemetery this spring.
