MRS. DORIS JEAN (MAY) WILSON April 5, 1924 - December 15, 2008 DORIS JEAN (MAY) WILSON Passed away on Monday, December 15, 2008 in her 84th year, at Trillium Hospital. Beloved wife of 63 years to Patrick Wilson, and loving mother to Bunny Aziz (Jim) and Mike Wilson (Phon). Will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren Christine, Greg and Laura Aziz, Larissa and Stephanie Wilson, and Patrick, Matthew, Peter and Tayla Rose Wilson. Much loved by many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. She joins her beloved parents, Ida and Fred May, and siblings Doug, Murray and Joan. A loving and generous lady who always smiled at strangers, Doris has given someone the gift of life this Christmas through organ donation. Mrs. Toshi Miyanishi April 16, 1920 - December 15, 2008 MIYANISHI (Tanaka), Toshi Peacefully in her sleep at the Yee Hong Centre on December 14, 2008, in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Shozo Miyanishi. Proud mother of Doreen Hayashi (George), Shirley Okawa (Norman), Mas Miyanishi, and Ron Miyanishi. Ms. Jean Beaulieu January 26, 1934 - December 13, 2008 BEAULIEU (nee Campbell) – Jean passed away at Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, Sk on Saturday, December 13th, 2008 at the age of 74 years. Jean is survived by her daughter Linda Maureen (Don) Goring and their 3 children Don Jr (Michelle) Goring and children Taran and Bryce, Jeremy (Melanie) Goring and their 3 children Liam, Joshua and Jack, Rob Goring and his daughter Sydney; son Jim (Shawne) Beaulieu and their son Brandon; sister Nan Hominick of Winnipeg, MB and her daughter Kendra (Cliff) Haight and their children Kiersten and Carson. Jean was predeceased by her husband Robert; parents Henry and Agnes Campbell; and nephew Bill Hominick. Jean was born January 26th, 1934 in Winnipeg MB and grew up in the Railway town of Transcona. She had to grow up fast as she lost her father in 1943 and had to help her deaf mother. She went to Business College and worked at the Red River College. She married her childhood sweetheart Bob, in 1954, and had 2 children. They moved to Saskatoon in 1965 and she went to work at the U of S Business office until her retirement in 1995. Jean was very involved in her church and led a very full life. She loved to watch curling and her Blue Jays, but her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was known as Grandma Jean by her neighbors and was adopted by the Hughes and the Churkos as part of their families. Jean lost the love of her life when Bob passed away in 1996 and a part of her has always been with him. She will be greatly missed by all, but is now with Bob for eternity. A Memorial Service will be held at St Paul’s United Church, 454 Egbert Avenue, Saskatoon, SK on Thursday, December 18th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Reverend Marjorie Keyser. Margaret was a loving wife, a caring mother, a devoted grandmother and a Registered Nurse whose life exemplified love, kindness, compassion and respect. Beloved wife of Jack of 60 years, mother of Janice and her husband Kelley, Robert and his wife Linda and David and his wife Judith. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Amy, Scott, Beth, Jennifer, Cheryl and Shannon and great grandchildren Travis Edward and Jane Margaret. Predeceased by her dear sisters Marion (Jack) and Marjorie (Albert) and her brother Jack (Gertrude). In Margaret’s professional life as an obstetrical nurse, she help usher many new babies into this world and taught new mothers how to care for their newborns at Toronto East General Hospital and Scarborough Centenary Hospital. Friends are invited to join the family at a Graveside Service to be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Dinsmore Cemetery, Dinsmore, SK. Pastor John Sellwood will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Boyd Martens, Warren Martens, Grant Pooler, Curtis Martens, Bradley de Boer, and William Pooler. Gordon was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Margaret Doell; sister, Laura Martens; brother-in-law, Jacob Martens; and great niece, Kelsey Pooler. Gordon is survived by his nieces and nephews: Alice (William) Pooler and children, Melanie (Michael) Spence (Stephanie and Evan) and Grant; Daphne Martens and children, Curtis and Danielle (fiancé Shawn) (Lara); Boyd Martens and children, Laurie and Kevin (Charlotte) (Kairo, Aiden and Oliver); Denise de Boer and children, Amy (Jonathon) Mayhew (Kayden and Logan) and Bradley (Angela) (Gregory); and Warren Martens (Trevor). For most of his working career Gordon was employed at maintenance jobs. In the 60’s, he worked on the construction of the Gardener Dam for a few years. Gordon was employed for many years by the Pioneer Grain Co. in elevator maintenance. His last job was maintenance at the Heritage Inn in Moose Jaw, where he lived for several years. Mrs. Marie Kathleen Wood - December 15, 2008 Wood, Marie Kathleen - - Suddenly, on the evening of Sunday December 14th, our dear mother, Marie Kathleen Wood passed away in her 83rd year. Mum is survived by her husband of more than 60 years, Ernest Wood who resides at Winbourne Park. Mum leaves behind three daughters, Alison Sheppard (Barry), Collette Luscombe (David), and Lisa Kadoski (Doug); grandchildren Jennifer and Aryne Sheppard, Scott Luscombe, Adam and Lauren Kadoski and her great grand daughter Claire (Jennifer Sheppard and John Nevin). Born in England, mum fulfilled her childhood dream of raising her family in Canada. With an enduring love and adventurous spirits, mum and dad saw much of the world, making life long friends along the way. Mr. John F. Shunamon May 17, 1918 - December 15, 2008 SHUNAMON, John F. Bedford, passed away peacefully in Melville Gardens Assisted Living Facility, Halifax, on Monday, December 15, 2008. Born in Beaver Bank on May 17, 1918, he was in his 91st year. He was the oldest son of the late Ernst and Frances (Grove) Shunamon. John joined the work force at any early age, working in the woods and at Barrett's Mill. He then discovered his love of mechanics. He was one of the founding members of Nova Automotive and was known as one of the best engine rebuilders around. After retiring he worked for Asburn Golf Course in Fall River as a groundskeeper, a job which he thoroughly loved. He loved camping, fishing, hunting, and above all, a good card game. John is survived by his loving wife, May (Densmore) (Hennigar) Shunamon; stepchildren, Dwight, Beth (Dyson), Mitchell (Judy), Wade (Rhona) and grandchildren, Kent (Alana), Matthew (Fiona), Codey, Mandy, Owen "O.J.", Chandra, Alyssa, Jordan, Kelsey and Alison. He is also survived by stepson, Bernard (Irene) Barrett and grandchildren, Kevin (Sonja) and Valerie (Aiden) from his first marriage. He is survived by his sister, Bertha Hankey, who John adored and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Edith and Violet; brothers, Clarence, Alfred and Clyde. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Marion (Barrett) Shunamon "Nellie". Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 18, in The Church of the Good Shepherd, Beaver Bank. Reception to follow in the church hall. Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" Eisener December 15, 2008 - December 15, 2008 89, Dartmouth. On her 89th birthday on December 15, 2008, our loving mother,sister and friend left this world to be with her Lord and Savior and to be reunited with Ralph, the love of her life and devoted husband of 64 years. Their love story continues. She will be greatly missed by her children, Charles (Faye), Cortland, N.Y.; Shirley (Wayne) McKay, Nictaux; George (Christine), Dartmouth; Bob (Helen), Digby; Beverley, Dartmouth; sisters, Clara (Michael) Casserley, Elsie Skelhorn, both of England; sisters-in- law, Marion Eisener, Dartmouth; Irene Cummins, England; brother-in-law, Foster (Dorothy) Eisener, Dartmouth; 10 grandchildren; 3 and a half great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Betty was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed gardening, ballroom dancing, swimming and she loved to travel. She was active for many years in St. John Ambulance and was honored with the rank of Serving Sister in the Order of St. John. Mom also enjoyed her many years of participation in the War Brides of Halifax/Dartmouth and Nova Scotia. Mrs. Venetta Mae Evans September 10, 1929 - December 14, 2009 EVANS, Venetta Mae 1921 – 2008 On Sunday, December 13, 2008 Venetta passed away at the age of 87 years following complications resulting from emergency hip surgery. Venetta was born on the family farm south of Glenavon, SK. The eldest child of Mae (nee Bruce) and Bill Sleightholm, Venetta, together with her brother Glen lived on the farm until her father’s untimely death in 1930, whereupon the family left the farm and moved to Glenavon. Raised by their mother, Venetta and Glen learned the value of family, duty, commitment, independence and hard work. They also had fun in small town Saskatchewan. As a young girl Venetta was a talented athlete and enjoyed ice-skating, curling and softball. In 1939 Venetta, along with her lifelong girl friends moved to Regina. She married Eric Evans, also raised in Glenavon, in 1942 before he went overseas. Venetta was a lifelong learner. Her curiosity led her to journalism, photography, gardening and university classes before embarking on her 35 yearlong career in real estate. Venetta was a pioneer of organized real estate, first building her own real estate company and becoming the first female president of the Regina Real Estate Association and the Saskatchewan Real Estate Board. She dedicated countless hours to the development of an education program and later concentrated on legislation, which is the foundation of today’s industry. Her faith was her strength. She was a hands-on person and a doer. Venetta sat on many Committees and Boards. Her organizational skills and love of people was evident throughout her life. She was an active member of Lakeview United Church, Kiwanis, Toastmasters, the Regina General Hospital Board and many community organizations. Her adventurous spirit and love of the wilderness and animals led her to many adventures in the great outdoors, from solo hiking, to a 1500 Km bike ride. Heather‘s zest for life, commitment, and energy was infectious and inspired others to emulate her daring. Kim’s career eventually led him to Alco Industrial, where he was Operations Manager for the west end division. He had an enormous passion for life, which included the outdoors, camping, fishing, golfing and hunting with his dad. Kim was an avid reader, a history buff and he enjoyed watching movies. Kim is survived by his loving wife of 12 years, Sheila; stepchildren, Ryan and Leah; parents, Victor and Emmy Krueger; sister, Dorothy (John) Cronk; mother-in-law, Joyce Haniak, as well as many relatives, friends and co-workers. He is predeceased by his father-in-law, Matt Haniak. Mrs. Janet Alma Davis April 26, 1919 - December 13, 2008 Janet Alma Davis April 26, 1919 – December 13, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Mom passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at Oliver Lodge. She is survived by her four children, Gary (Diane) Davis of Smith Falls, ON, Margo (Don) Morris of Brampton, ON, Colleen (Victor) Lorenzo of Saskatoon, SK, Brent (Sherry) Davis of Lethbridge, AB; twelve grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one niece; and three nephews of Smith Falls, ON. Janet worked as a cook at Kilburn Hall for fifteen years and retired in 1984. Then she did volunteer work for Home Care until 1997. Mom was an awesome cook. She loved to bake and her homemade buns were the best. To keep herself busy she took up quilting. I’m sure every grandchild has one. She loved music and loved to dance. There was no better music to her other than the fiddle. A special thanks to all the nurses and staff at Oliver Lodge for their compassionate care that you gave to our mother, one way or another. I’m sure she put a smile on your face. Thank you to Dr. Harrington for the special care he has given Mom in the past three years. It Mom’s request, there will be no funeral. She will be cremated, and at a later date a Graveside Service will be held in Wakefield, Quebec. Mr. John Michael Roy Curwin March 1, 1982 - December 13, 2008 CURWIN, Private John Michael Roy 26, of Mount Uniacke, passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2008, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, while serving his country. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Michael and Danita (MacDonald) Curwin of Mount Uniacke. Private Curwin was a member of 2nd Battalion the Royal Canadian Regiment for two years, and was a very proud "Royal". John grew up playing hockey for East Hants, and was an avid Montreal Canadiens fan. He enjoyed fishing, Friday night poker games with his friends and the early Saturday morning golf games that followed. He always lived life to the fullest. John is survived by his wife of six and a half years, Laura (Bruneau) Curwin, and children, Makayla, Michael and Jenna; brother, Josh (Terri); paternal grandparents, William and Corrine Curwin. He was predeceased by maternal grandmother, Georgine Dent and by niece, Autumn Rose Curwin. Mr. Jack Spohn March 22, 1940 - December 14, 2008 SPOHN, Jacob (Jack) - March 22, 1940-December 14, 2008 Peacefully, after a 6 year struggle with dementia, on Sunday, December 14, 2008 at Guildwood-Extendicare. Beloved husband of Rosemary (nee Welsh) for 45 years. Loving father of Theresa (Douglas), Michael (Rosemarie) and Deanna (fiance Michael). Loving brother to Mary (George) Virag, predeceased by his brothers Tony, Frank, Joseph and Carl. He will also be missed by his sisters-in-law Irene, Elizabeth and Evelyn and many nieces and nephews. Jack was an admired teacher at Centennial College, whose passion for mathematics, inspired students for 32 years. He was an avid card player, golfer and an enthusiastic member of Tam Heather Curling Club. He was also actively involved in the Catholic faith community. Visitation will be held at the "Scarborough Chapel" of McDougall & Brown, 2900 Kingston Road (east of St. Clair Ave. E.) on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will take place on Friday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Boniface R.C. Mr. Graham Keith Baxter January 21, 1956 - December 14, 2008 Family and friends are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of their loved one Graham Keith Baxter, age 52 of Amherst and Tidnish Cross Roads on Sunday, December 14, 2008 as the result of a tragic accident. Born in Amherst, he was the son of Evelyn (Robinson) Baxter of Tidnish Cross Roads and the late Keith Baxter. A gentle man who enjoyed family and friends and the simple things of life. He was known as an avid hunter and fisherman, a steward of the wilderness. Graham was in his element in the outdoors and with his horses, Sonny and Two Socks. A well known carpenter and contractor, he worked locally and up north. Mr. Aubrey Ross Trenholm September 27, 1915 - December 15, 2008 Aubrey Ross Trenholm of Sackville, NB and formerly of Fort Lawrence, NS passed away at the Sackville Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 15, 2008 at the age of 93. Born in Fort Lawrence, NS, he was a son of the late Alfred and Helen (Atkinson) Trenholm. He is survived by his children, Phyllis Frick of Westlock, AB; Faye (Kenneth) Campbell of Riverview, NB; Eric (Heather) Trenholm of Warren, NS; and Karen Trenholm of London, ON; as well as by eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mr. Trenholm is also survived by one brother, Gerald (Mary) Trenholm of Amherst, NS; and 15 nieces and nephews. Mr. Trenholm was predeceased by his wife, F. Josephine (Somers) Trenholm, in 1994; his daughter, Anna Louise Trenholm, in 1980; as well as his brothers, Gordon (Margaret) and Carman (Phyllis); his sister, Frances (William) Glenwright; and his brother in law, Jack (Audrey) Somers. Mr. Trenholm was a farmer in Fort Lawrence all of his working life and well past the age at which most people retire. From 1970 until the farm was sold in 1999 he was in partnership with his son, Eric, in Laurentide Farms Ltd. Through much of his life, he contributed to his community through service on the School Board and as a 4-H Club Leader; to his Church (the Fort Lawrence United Church, and subsequently Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church in Amherst) through service on the Session and Church Board; and to his profession, through service on the Amherst Federation of Agriculture, the NS Federation of Agriculture, the Board of Scotsburn Cooperative Service Ltd. and the Nova Scotia Holstein Association. In earlier years, he was also an active member of the Amherst Curling Club. His remains are resting in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst, (667-9906) with visiting on Sunday, December 28, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be celebrated on Monday, December 29, 2008 at 2 p.m. from Campbell's Chapel with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot in the Fort Lawrence Cemetery in spring. Mr. Douglas "Doug" William Paul Savage June 17, 1916 - December 15, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving father Douglas. He is survived by his wife Marjorie of 66 years, father to Linda Savage and Janice Savage; grandfather to Stephanie Kelly. He also leaves behind 2 sisters Marie Mitchell and Anna Zellweger, caregiver Eleanor; Aunt Gladys and many nephews and nieces. Predeceased by mother Clara Savage; Father John Savage; brothers Arthur Savage and Jack Savage. Douglas was a farmer in East Richmond and served as an alderman, a member of the Shrine and Masons. He was loved by all who had the privilege to meet him. He will be dearly missed by family and friends. We love you dad/papa. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road in Richmond. Phoebe Tremblay December 11, 1924 - December 16, 2008 Phoebe Tremblay, age 84 years, passed away peacefully at home, Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 19 at St. Mark Roman Catholic Church - 589-9th Street East – by her brother Father Clifford Tremblay, concelebrated by The Most Reverend Bishop Albert Thévenot and Father Francis. Phoebe is survived by her loving family: her brothers Father Clifford Tremblay and Michael Tremblay; her sister Georgette (Wayne) Genter; her nieces and nephews Celine & Chrys Tremblay, Kevin & Gordon Genter. She was predeceased by her parents Chrys & Cecilia Tremblay. Phoebe was born December 11, 1924 in Wakaw and went to elementary school in Reynaud, SK and high school at the Sion Convent in Prince Albert. She entered the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception at St. John, NB. She nursed at St. Vincent’s Hospital in St. John, the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert as well as in Cudworth, Ituna & Turtleford. Retiring in 1992 and lived with and cared for her mother until her death in 1994 when she moved to Prince Albert. Phoebe was a member of Sacred Heart CWL. Interment of cremated remains in the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
