FINN, Donald J - Passed away peacefully at the Highland Wood Long Term Care, Haliburton on Monday, June 30, 2008. Don was the first graduate from Queens Law School in1960 and started his Law Firm in Minden in 1962, Don had roots in Minden from working with his father “Micky Finn” helping to build the local Public School and Catholic Church. Don had many passions in life, his favorite being his horses, Don worked with his partner Gary Vasey, breeding and racing thoroughbred horses until his illness. Don was the beloved husband of Carole (nee McGarrity), dear father of Erin and her husband Winsor MacDonell of Oakville, Eoin and his wife Insya of Vancouver, loving Dop to Aidan and Kiara MacDonell. Predeceased by his parents Michael J. Finn and Margaret Finn. Fondly remembered by his family, staff and many friends. AILA O. ‘EILEEN’ MILENDER Wednesday, June 11, 2008 A private family memorial service and interment at Hamilton Cemetery in rural Racine, Mn., for Aila O. “Eileen” Milender, 90, of Stewartville, Mn., will take place at a later date. Mrs. Milender passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 of natural causes at the Stewartville Care Center where she had resided since July of last year. Aila Onerva Blom was born Sept. 13, 1917 in Crozier, Ont. She grew up on the family farm in Canada and attended rural schools. She was married in Dance, Ont. to Lawrence A. Fults. They both were employed at a logging camp in Kenora, Ont.; she as a baker and cook and he as a logger. They moved to Chicago, Ill. and were later divorced. She was married in Chicago to Elton Daughtry and they moved to International Falls, Mn., where they were later divorced. She married Jack Sweeney in International Falls, where they lived for a number of years. She was a homemaker and longtime member of the Zion Lutheran Church in International Falls. She moved to Salem, Ore. in 1989 to live near her daughter until moving to Stewartville in 2003. She enjoyed dancing, bird-watching, flower gardening, travelling, and pie and coffee. Survivors include three daughters, Judith Montoya of Lynden, Wash., Darlene (Leroy) Johnson of Racine, Mn., and Sandra (Paul) Morigeau of Carson City, Nev.; a son, Jack (Brandi) Sweeney Jr. of Duluth, Mn.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special friend, Peggy Edens of Ranier, Mn.; and many nieces and nephews in Canada. She was predeceased by her parents, John and Hilma Blom; a daughter, Roxann; son-in-law, Edward Montoya; three sisters; a brother; and two grandsons, Jorge Montoya and Robert Colombe.

MICHAEL EDGAR ‘EDDY’ AMIRAULT Wednesday, June 11, 2008 Michael Edgar Amirault passed away suddenly at his home in Edmonton, Alta. on Friday, June 6, 2008, at the age of 51. Mike, or “Eddy” as he was known to his friends, was born May 19, 1957 in Fort Frances, Ont. He lived most of his early life in Fort Frances, and had a keen interest in martial arts and writing. Mike was very proud of his family’s military history, and spoke of it often. He was last employed with North Air Taxi in Fort Frances before he moved to Edmonton in 1987, where he remained until his death. Mike was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Michael Sr. and Edith Solomon. He is survived by his son, David Amirault of Garson, Man.; daughter, Krista Amirault-Kellar (Scott Hunt), and grandchildren, Shelby and Damien, of Fort Frances, Ont.; mother, Wilma Amirault of Edmonton, Alta.; brother, Kenneth Amirault (Ann) of Edmonton, Alta.; sister, Shelly (Leonard) Vaness of Fernie, B.C.; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins throughout Northwestern Ontario. Cremation will take place in Edmonton, with interment at a later date. No funeral is planned. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. May the angels lead you into paradise to find the peace you so desperately sought.

PATRICIA E. CARROLL Wednesday, June 18, 2008 Patricia E. Carroll, 70, of Kenosha, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Kenosha Medical Centre. She was born Aug. 16, 1937 in Winnipeg, Man., the daughter of William and Luella (Cullen) Holland. She was educated in the schools of Fort Frances, Ont. She married Conrad Carroll on Aug. 24, 1968 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Kenosha. She worked for AT&T as a telephone operator for more than 30 years, retiring in 1987. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the Telephone Pioneers of America, V.F.W., and D.A.V. Survivors include her husband, Conrad Carroll of Kenosha; one son, Richard Carroll of Racine; one daughter, Laurella Bock Thomas of Kenosha; one son-in-law, Scotty Bock of Kenosha; two brothers, William (Barbara) Holland and Bradley Holland, both of Fort Frances, Ont.; one sister, Marjory Katerick; one grandson, Chandler Bock; and two granddaughters, Briana and Abbagail Thomas. She was predeceased by one brother, Thomas Holland, and a good friend, Pat Baken. Funeral services were private, with burial at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

JOSEPH JAMES BROWN Sr. Wednesday, July 2, 2008 (Shingo-Beense) Joseph James Brown 66 of St. Paul, Mn. and formerly of Rainy River First Nations, Ont. passed away at his residence on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Joseph was born on February 21, 1942 in Emo, Ont. to the late Charlie and Agnes Brown. He had worked as guide, pulpwood cutter and as a landscaper. He enjoyed fishing and playing cribbage and he loved the outdoors. He was a very quiet, simple man who would go along with everyone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his son, Joseph Jr., and daughter, Andrea, both of Winnipeg, and his partner, Maxine Porter, and daughter, Crystal Porter, of Minneapolis. Also surviving are his siblings, Emma (Ralph) Geyer and Gladys Brown, all of St. Paul, Mn. Rick (Angela) Brown of Eagen, Mn. Dean Brown of St. Paul, Mn.; grandchildren Christie and Skye Hunter and Andrew Kingbird; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He was predeceased by his brothers, Stanley, Howard, and Stephen; an infant brother Louis; sister, Lorraine; and granddaughter, Rachel. Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10 a.m. at the Rainy River First Nations Gymnasium. Reverend Mr. Bob Grynol officiated followed by interment in the Rainy River First Nations Cemetery. The pallbearers were Al Hunter, Joe Hunter, Art Hunter, Gerry Hunter, Ben Brown Jr. and Josh Brown. NORAH MAY WALSH Wednesday, July 2, 2008 Norah May (Keenahan)(Stalker) Walsh passed away Saturday, June 28, 2008 at her home located at 550 Osborne St. in Fort Frances, Ont. with her family at her side. Norah was born in McIrvine, Fort Frances, Ont., on May 4, 1921. Her loving parents were John and Alice (Smith) Keenahan. She had a brother, Frank, a sister, Kathleen (George Brooks) and later, one half-sister, Jane (Gunter Wirtz). Norah was a passionate supporter of her family in all areas of their lives--academic, athletic, health, and medical. She was a major force behind her son, George’s, very passionate fundraising for the Terry Fox Foundation. Norah loved to create--knitting, sewing, gardening, carpentry and she loved to participate and compete in running and swimming. Norah was predeceased by her grandparents, Daniel and Jane Keenahan; parents, John and Alice Keenahan; step-mother, Gladys (McLeod) Keenahan; husband, Alex Stalker; husband, George Walsh; brother Frank Keenahan; sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and George Brooks; daughter, Zoe; and nephew, Paul Wirtz. Norah is survived by her half-sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Gunter Wirtz; her sons, Sandy Stalker and George Walsh; her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Dick Trivers; grandsons, J.K. Stalker and Joseph (Satoko) Trivers; granddaughters, Marah (Monte) Trivers and Kathleen (Jon) Cuthbertson; great-grandchildren, Alexander Stalker, Jacob Bolzan, and Megan and Molly Carlson; nephews and nieces from the Brooks and Wirtz families; special friend, Tammie Corbett; and a myriad of friends in Thunder Bay and Fort Frances. Norah had a strong faith, a deep love for family, friends and all God’s creation--she was truly inspirational. Well done, good and faithful servant. BERNARD, Ronald - With great sadness the Bernard family announces the passing of Ronald Joseph Paul Bernard on Sunday June 29th 2008 at the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary, Alberta in his 43rd year. Survived by his wife Wendy Bernard of Airdrie, Alberta, mother Dolly Bernard, sister Tracy (Dean) Maxwell, daughter Kristyn Leblanc, uncle Ron Bernard, aunts Adrienne (Tom) Belanger, Louise (Ron) Montreuil, surrogate brothers, Rob (Tanya) Bernard, Aaron (Beth) Bernard, Brian (Sue) Belanger, Mike (Sherry) Belanger, Roy (Bev) Cameron, niece Tara Maxwell, and “Uncle Ron“ to many other nieces and nephews. Ron was born and raised in Mattawa. After joining the army he enlisted in the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry and Commando 2 Airborne Regiment. Due to an injury he left the army and moved to Calgary. After working for many other companies out west he decided to open his own company Brigg Demolition and operated his business until his passing. Ron was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife of 34 years Barbara (Baker) Lainson; 3 sons, Eric (Annette) Lainson of Bloomfield, Gregory (Shannon) Lainson of Canandaigua, Christopher Lainson of Bloomfield; daughter Cara (Scott) Grittner of Minot ND; 4 grandchildren Mellanie, Porter, Benjamin, and Lily; father Terrance (Carol) Lainson of Victor; 3 sisters including his twin Cynthia (Lester) Noyes of Van Kleek Hill, Ontario, Claudia (Bryan) Trepanier of Farmington, Cathy Phillips of Victor; brother Carl (Brenda) Lainson of Fenton, Mich.; mother-in-law Edith Baker of Fort Erie, Ontario; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother Helen Lainson and his father-in-law Bud Baker. Mr. Lainson was born in Buffalo and raised in Fort Erie. He was a graduate of Fort Erie High School. He moved to the Rochester area in 1974 and had resided in Bloomfield since 1988. Mr. Lainson worked as a salesman for Interstate Brands for many years, retiring in January of this year. He was a member of the Teamsters Union local #791. He was a member of St. Bridget's Church. Mr. Lainson was a former coach for Vince Lombardi football in Bloomfield. He enjoyed boating, fishing and reading. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Marcel Joseph Omer St. George passed away unexpectedly at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at the age of 49. He was born August 18, 1958 and grew up in Earlton. He was predeceased by his father Maurice St. George (1997) . Marcel is survived by his mother Alice Cadieux (Ghislain) of North Bay. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his three daughters Sylvia Harris of London, Ontario, Adelle (Nick Levesque) of Viewlake, Ontario, and Natalie St. George (Luis Afonso) of York, Ontario; cherished grandfather to Erika and Isabella-Berlyn; siblings Gerald (Nicole) , Jeanine (Michel Gosselin) , Robert (Chantal Bourgeois) , Noel, Noella (Norman St. George) , his twin Michel (Elsie) , Pierrette (Michel Gauthier) , Jocelyne, Jacqueline (Paul Gauthier) , Pierre (Dody) , Paul and Denis. Adored Grandpa to his 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Born of Irish/French extraction in Ottawa, he joined the military during W.W. II. He attended Queen's University before returning to his career in the R.C.A.F. where he rose to the rank of Major. As a navigator he flew the Lancaster, the CF100 and the CF 130 Hercules to name a few. He served as protocol officer at NORAD in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he chaperoned visiting dignitaries including President Nixon and Queen Elizabeth II. After he retired from the military he worked for Transport Canada and the United Nations in Uganda. Don maintained his ties with the R.C.A.F. by assisting with several reunions of the 408 Squadron. After travelling the world, Don and his first wife Lorraine, settled in Port Dover where they were active members of the community for many years. He moved to Wilmot Creek after his wife's death in 1999, where he found a new community and a new love - Dorothy Tickner. Together they shared a love of travel, laughter and singing. Don's legacy will be his steadfast commitment to family and the many friends he made the world over. Family was central to all that Don did, and it will be that sense of family that will support us in this time of loss. OBITUARY MARY ANN DANYLKIW (NEE NOLAN) Suddenly in Oakville, on July 1, 2008, after a fall in her eighty-second year. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 55 years, Mike, and two of her sons, Christopher and Michael and all of her brothers and sisters, May, Patricia, Paddy and John Nolan and Nora Griffin. She is dearly missed by her sons John (Brenda) and Brian Danylkiw, her daughter Anne-Marie Wilson and her grandchildren: Victoria, Michelle, Lauren, Katherine, Caitlin and Esme. She is survived as well by her many nieces and nephews. Mary grew up in Outremont, Quebec, the last child of Philip and Mary Teresa Nolan, and moved to St. Laurent with her husband. Their incredible journey of love together took them around the world, but they lived in Rosemere, Quebec, Toronto and then Brampton, Ontario after which they retired to the Saanich peninsula on Vancouver Island in British Columbia where they were both devoted to their friends and neighbours and deeply involved with the parish of St. Elizabeth's Church in Sidney. When Mike passed away in 2003, Mary's health became more fragile and she eventually joined the Sunrise community in Victoria, BC and later came to the Sunrise residence in Oakville in October 2006. While Mary's health continued a slow decline, she was still very active in the Sunrise community, making many friends and keeping everyone on their toes. Mary will be missed by all. The family wants to thank the many dedicated, compassionate caregivers and staff at Sunrise, all of whom worked as a team to provide Mom with the closest thing to home, particularly Alma, Sara, Sabah, Henrietta, Makeba and Vanda, who went above and beyond to make Mom's last two years as comfortable and as energizing as possible. As well, the family also wishes to express their deepest thanks to Dr. Helen Pyle for her constant care, assistance and patience. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive (905-844-7971) in Oakville. CLEROUX (MCNEIL), MARY ELIZABETH "BETTY" Mrs. Betty Cleroux of Nashwaak Village passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on July 6, 2008. Born on May 24, 1938, she was the daughter of John and Margaret (Porter) McNeil. She is survived by her sister, Elynor (Charles) Sargeant; and three brothers, Fred (Connie), Bob (Marianne), and Philip (Vicky); as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Besides her parents, Betty is predeceased by her husband, Gilles Cleroux and her sister, Noreen McNeil. Betty was a resident of Montreal for many years where she worked in accounting with various firms. She moved to the Nashwaak on her retirement and lived in the family home. She had many friends in Montreal and on the Nashwaak. There will be no visitation by request. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anthony's Church on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 7 pm with Father Monte Peters as celebrant, with a reception to follow. May McAnulty, age 81, was born in Greenock, Scotland and came to Canada in 1953 and resided in Sarnia. Beloved wife of the late John McAnulty (2001).
