La Communauté accueillera les parents et amis à compter de 19 h, le dimanche 4 mai 2008 à la Maison Provinciale du Bon Pasteur 424, rue Bégin Chicoutimi Les heures d'accueil sont: le dimanche de 19 h à 21 h. Lundi, jour des funérailles, le salon sera ouvert à compter de 8 h 30. Soeur Marguerite Lapointe est née à Chicoutimi, dans la paroisse Sacré-Coeur. Elle était la fille de feu M. Cyprien Lapointe et de feu Mme Lydia St-Hilaire. Éducatrice dans le coeur, soeur Marguerite a allumé des étincelles dans les intelligences et dans le coeur de nombreux jeunes du primaire et du secondaire pendant vingt et un ans entre les années 1944 et 1975. C'est à Jonquière (dans plusieurs écoles), Chicoutimi, Ste-Monique et Mistassini qu'elle a eu la joie d'enseigner. Ensuite elle poursuit sa carrière d'éducatrice en pastorale paroissiale et spécialement auprès d'adultes en Éducation de la foi à Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc de 1976 à 1997. Revenue à Chicoutimi, une autre porte lui est ouverte pour continuer sa mission d'enseignante: elle donne des cours d'appoint en français de 1997 à 2004. En plus, femme de service tournée vers les autres, elle a fait profiter ses consoeurs de son talent de cuisinière à Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc de 1983 à 1997. Volontaire et décidée, soeur Marguerite, s'est fait remarquer par un sens bien particulier du devoir accompli, par sa droiture, sa bonté et son respect. Elle a aimé les jeunes, elle a aussi aimé toutes les personnes qu'elle a côtoyées. Sa famille lui est très chère. Outre sa famille religieuse, soeur Marguerite laisse dans le deuil une belle-soeur, Mme Marguerite Drapeau (feu Léopold), ses neveux et nièces très affectionnés. Elle était la soeur de feu Laéticia (soeur du Bon Pasteur), feu Eugénie (feu Edouard Lemieux), feu Louis-Henri (feu Jeanne-d'Arc Imbeault), feu Laurette (feu Adrien Lapointe), feu Léopold (Jeanne Drapeau), feu Gabrielle (soeur du Bon Pasteur), feu Thomas-Eugène (feu Cécile Tremblay) et feu Rosario (feu Émilie Claveau). COLES, Frederic Charles February 16, 1944 - May 1, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, mentor, friend, son and brother, Frederic Charles Coles, on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the age of 64 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Fred spent thirty-six years as a Petroleum Engineer in the Calgary Oil and Gas Industry significantly contributing to the development of GLJ Petroleum Consultants Ltd. and to the growth of several Junior Oil and Gas Corporations, Trusts, and Capital Corporations through his contributions as a member of their Boards of Directors. Fred has touched many individuals through his endless ability to give of himself, a trait that will be sorely missed by so many. Besides his friend Joyce McKinney, Fred is survived by children, Warren (Nicole Liboiron-Coles) and Karin (Stephen Kelba); his grandchildren, Richard Kelba, Alexander Kelba, Jackson Coles and Rhianna Kelba. Fred is also survived by his mother Marjorie, brother Ron, sister Shirley Penner and former wife Sharon Thomas. In 1974, Fred was predeceased by his father, Charles Louis Coles. Over the past eleven years Fred worked tirelessly as the chair and co-chair of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Annual Charity Golf Classic and he would like to thank all of the dedicated staff and doctors at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their commitment and devotion. Fred also made significant efforts towards the Save The Family Foundation of Arizona over the past five years. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their care and compassion over the past eleven years. EBELTOFT, Miriam Ellen (nee Ingram) Passed away peacefully at the Hospice at May Court on April 30, 2008 at the age of 83. She was a life member of the Good Companions and various Old time fiddler clubs, Line Dancing Senior clubs. A wonderful and caring person to friends and family. Beloved wife of Olaf Ebeltoft for 60 years. Mother to Douglas (Monique), Judy (Neil) and Eric (Louise). KERR, Robert Adams Passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on April 29, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Robert (Bob) is lovingly remembered by wife Marlene, son Paul (Glynis), daughters Ann and Valerie (Phil) and sister Vivienne (Wesley), four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother John. Born in Wicklow, Eire, he was educated and trained as a Quantity Surveyor in Dublin, Eire. His roving spirit took him to England, Mauritius, Jamaica and various locations in Canada, finally settling in Calgary in 1982, where he worked for the City of Calgary as their Contracts Administrator to the Project Management Team which built the original North East and North West "C" Train until his retirement in 1993. In retirement he carried out volunteer work at COP and the Energeum. OBITUARY PAULINE PHARAND (nee CHOQUETTE) 1923-2008 Peacefully passed away on April 29, 2008 at the Lakeshore General Hospital. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Pauline was the youngest of a family of seven. She was a woman of strong convictions with a passion for everything that life had to offer. These values, which she so strongly espoused were passed onto her daughters. Her love of life she passed onto her grandchildren. Her devotion to family and generousity of spirit were truly immeasurable. She is survived by her beloved husband Denis, her four daughters Carroll, Liliane, Louise and Anne, three sons-in-law and six grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. She was a teacher at Gloucester High School, retired in 1980 and moved to Victoria where she was an active volunteer. A celebration of her life and accomplishments was held April 25, in Victoria. CARLYLE, Robert Harold November 28, 1920 - April 19, 2008 Harold Carlyle of Calgary, passed away on April 19, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Known to his family first and foremost as a doting husband and father, loyal brother and generous uncle, Harold was a major player and leader in the Canadian oil and gas industry. Robert Harold Carlyle was born in Lethbridge, Alberta, one of four brothers who, even as small boys, shouldered responsibilities in the Carlyle family dairy business. The family relocated to Vancouver in the early thirties, struggling through the Depression years, and Harold ultimately enrolled in Engineering at the University of British Columbia. World War II interrupted his education, like that of so many of this "greatest generation". Serving in the United Kingdom and Europe with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1941 to 1946, Harold contributed to the highly secret development of new radar technology and led mobile radar units in the invasion of Europe. In a recollection of this time, he wrote about a posting in Lands End, England and a tremendous crew of radar mechanics in whose workshop was a sign that read, "The impossible we do at once. Miracles take a little longer." He was a loyal attendee at reunions of Radar Veterans until two years ago. "Harry", as so many colleagues knew him, had a long and distinguished career in the energy sector. Hired in 1950 by Gulf Research and Development Company for seismic fieldwork based out of Smoky Lake, Alberta, Harold was eventually promoted to Chief Geophysicist, then through various executive ranks, ultimately becoming President of Gulf Canada Resources Inc. in 1984. Through these years he was involved with discovery and development of oil and gas reserves in the Mackenzie Delta, the Alberta Pincher Creek field, the Beaufort Sea, and Hibernia on the Grand Banks. Harold was elected President of the Canadian Society of Exploration Geophysics and later served as Chairman of the Canadian Petroleum Association during the national debate that revolved around the National Energy Program. In retirement, Harold served on a number of boards in private and non-profit sectors. And he had more time to spend in the Rocky Mountains he loved and at his cabin on the banks of the Bow River in Canmore. He is survived by his brothers Alex and Weldon in the Toronto area. He is greatly missed by his stepsons Jim (Dianne) and Bruce (Alice), grandchildren Jeffrey, Carlee, Matthew, Leslie and Daryl and great-grandchildren Isaac and Lincoln all of Calgary and by nieces and nephews throughout central and western Canada. Harold was predeceased by wife Jane Campbell and his brother Gordon. Harold's wishes were that no Funeral or Memorial Service be held. Walter Ross Wert, UE - Wally died peacefully April 23, 2008 in his 91st year. Born July 3, 1917 in Avonmore, Ontario, he graduated from Radio College, Toronto as a Commercial Radio Operator in 1937. During WWII, Wally served in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals (2 Special Wireless) and was awarded a special mention in dispatches for his work in Britain and Europe. He married Aleen (nee Walton) in England on July 31, 1943. At the end of the war, they settled into their first home in Montreal, where later their three daughters were born. Wally resumed work at RCA Victor, aligning and testing the first television built in Canada in 1948. In 1957 the family moved to Chalk River, Ontario, where Wally designed and built their home while working as an instruments technician at Atomic Energy of Canada. For 18 years he partnered in Electronic Services, a home- based radio and television repair business. Wally retired in 1978 and two years later moved with Aleen to White Rock, BC, where he continued to document his family genealogy until the end of his life. He self- published two books of his family history and a third about his war experience in Special Wireless. Wally was predeceased by daughter Joyce (Fairbanks) in 1993, and is survived by wife Aleen, daughters Anne (Sze-Yin) Yuen and Karen (John) Richardson, son-in-law Bryan Fairbanks (Rebecca), 3 Fairbanks and 4 Yuen grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place and a gathering to celebrate Wally's life is planned for July 3, 2008, in Surrey, BC. Much loved by her six granddaughters; Katie Rollwagen (Darrell Harvey) of Ottawa, Heather Rollwagen (Adam Barnard) of Calgary, Edey Hobson (Matt Twiddy) of Kingston, Ali Rollwagen (Ryan Quinlan Keech) of Toronto, Jane Hobson of Hamilton and Elizabeth Hobson of Kentville, Nova Scotia. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Predeceased by her sister Molly Arner (2006). Betty was born May 5, 1920. She was the daughter of Captain James MacLean and his wife Mary Fisher. She graduated from the Toronto General Hospital School of Nursing and she proudly served in the Canadian Army Medical Cor in Europe from 1943 - 1946. Upon returning to Canada she earned her diploma in Public Health from the University of Toronto and worked in Public Health in Sarnia with the Lambton County Health Unit and the Rotary Children's Centre while raising her family. Betty was a devoted and active member of Laurel-Lea St. Matthew's Church, who's congregational support and encouragement were a source of much comfort. Friends will be received at the KNIGHT FUNERAL HOME 588 St. Clair Parkway, Corunna on Thursday May 8th, 2008 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will then be held at Laurel-Lea St. Matthew's Church, (Corner of Exmouth and Melrose) Sarnia on Friday at 1:00 p.m. Cremation has taken place and interment will follow later in Norway Bay United Cemetery.
