KEATES, Stella 2008-04-16 (Yaworski) Nov 16, 1921 - Apr 16, 2008 It is with great sadness that the family of Stella Keates (Yaworski) announce her passing on April 16th, 2008 after a short illness. She lived a full and happy life and enjoyed many trips to Duluth and Grand Portage. She will be sadly missed by daughters Sandra Gaudry, Judy (Doug) Gilbert and granddaughters Stacy Peterson and Cheryl Gilbert. She is also survived by her sister Teeny Agostino and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Sophrona and Alex Matson, brothers John and Bill, sisters Annie and Mary and her first husband Joseph Yaworski. As per Mom‘s wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 18th, 2008 at Good Shepherd‘s Village, 51 Walkover St. beginning at 11:30 in the common room. Flowers gratefully declined.

GILCHRIST, Ronald Neil - In loving memory of Ronald Neil Gilchrist July 24, 1936 - April 12, 2008. Ron Gilchrist, a resident of Providence Bay, and formerly of Elliot Lake, died at the Mindemoya Hospital on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the age of 71 years. He was born at Spring Bay, son of the late John and Nelda (Johnson) Gilchrist. Ron retired in 1996 from Rio Algom after more than 25 years working as an equipment operator. He enjoyed carpentry, mowing his grass, his horse and animals in general. He will be remembered for his love of music, and the enjoyment his music bought to many people over the years. Ron was predeceased by his first wife Mary Ann (Elliott) in 1997. LINGMAN, Jane 2008-04-16 Jane Lingman, age 81, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2008 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 21, 1927 in Port Arthur and resided in Thunder Bay for most of her life. As a hard working and dedicated community member, Jane began working when she was 16 at Can-Car. She was part of the “Rosie the Riveter” crew, working on Curtis Helldivers for the American Navy. Following in her family‘s tradition, she joined the Canadian Navy at age 17, serving in Halifax until the end of WWII. After she returned home, she attended DVA School where she met the love of her life, Wilf Lingman. They married on July 18, 1947 and raised two children. Jane was a member of the Eastern Star and had many interests. She loved all animals and was a lifetime member of the Canadian Kennel Club, Lakehead Kennel Club and was a founding member of the TB Cocker Spaniel Club. For 28 years, she opened her home to the dog community to hold an eye exam clinic, hosting an average of 150 dogs per year. Jane was also and avid golfer and the humble owner of three hole-in-one trophies. She won many club championships in both Canada and the U.S. and was a participant in all 25 Cancer Tournaments at the Fort William C.C. During the long winter months, Jane kept busy as a five pin bowler. Perhaps the highlight of her life was celebrating her 60th Wedding Anniversary with Wilf, along with family and friends last summer. Jane was preceded in death by her father Ralph, mother Ann, brother Bill and aunt Cis Arthurs. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband Wilf, son Bob (Deb), daughter Kathy (Charles Allen), grandchildren Kristin (Scott) Rogers, Jordan (Paige) Lingman, Katy and Brittany Lingman, sisters and brother Nell Gash, Jim (Cheryl) Holt, Carol (Mel) Krienke, and Barb (Bob) Vester, as well as by numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, former daughter-in-law Susan Nelson, and her to cocker spaniels, Becky and Digby. Jane will be dearly missed by her family and friends as well as her extended network of friends in Florida. Special thanks to the nurses at St. Joseph‘s Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion. Cremation with a private interment has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Archdeacon Mark S. Conliffe presiding. WANNER, Alvin Henry - age 84, of Brigden passed away on Sunday April 13, 2008 at Bluewater Health, C.E.E. site, Petrolia. Son of the late Russell and Matilda (LaFond) Wanner. Beloved husband of Alice (Barnes) Wanner for 63 years. Loving father of Wayne (Susan Burkhart) Wanner of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Sharon (Jake) Lowen of Creston B.C.. Dear grandfather of Daryl Wanner and friend Krista of Edmonton, Alberta and Carol and Sarah Lowen of Vancouver Island. Dear brother of Allan (Lois) Wanner, Sarnia. Predeceased by sisters Pearl (Frank) Ruston and Lois (Willis) Stewardson and brother Lorne Wanner. Survived by several nieces and nephews. Alvin came to Brigden in 1954, owned and operated Wanner's Meat Market from 1954 to 1969. He went into partnership with Bill Shaw in the Village Market from 1977 to 1985. Alvin was a Brigden Village Trustee and Hydro Commissioner and member of OMEA from 1963 to 1978. He served as Past Chairman of Moore Township planning board and Committee of Adjustment and was a charter member of Brigden Optimist Club. As a Past Master of the Masonic Leopold Lodge #397, Brigden, 32 degree Mason, he was appointed Grand Stewart of The Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario in 1972. He was a director of the Moore Agricultural Society and President of Brigden Fair in 1988. Alvin was the founder and chairman of the Brigden and Area Senior Housing Association which was responsible for building a 20 apartment senior housing complex - called Brigden Park Place. He was a member of the Brigden United Church serving on all church boards and also served on the Brigden Community Credit Union Board for over 27 years. GLENN, JANET BARRETT After a long and courageous battle with cancer; Janet B. Glenn of New Maryland, passed away on April 14, 2008 at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital at the age of 79. Born in Scotland, she was a daughter of the late John and Isabella (Chambers) Thomson and wife of the late Vernon Glenn. Before her retirement, Janet enjoyed working with Cherries Travel, and later as a bookkeeper for R.P.C. She was a Chartered member of the Fredericton Kennel Club, honoured as a life member of the Canadian Kennel Club and was a well known and respected dog breeder. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she is survived by daughters, Philippa Gourley of Fredericton, Susan Facey (Rick) of Toronto, Ont., Sheena Divalentin (Mike) of Fredericton; sons, Scott (Tina) and Peter all of Fredericton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and many many friends.
