PERREAULT, William - The family announces with sorrow, his death in Sudbury, Tuesday, March 4th, 2008 at the age of 81 years. Son of the late Émile. Husband of the late Sylvia Perreault (née Ross), predeceased in 1993. Loving father of Richard Perreault (Anne) of Perth Road, ON, Raymond Perreault (Jan) of Calgary, Alberta, Pauline Guy (André) of Hanmer, William Perreault (Deanne) of Cranbrook, B.C. and Pierre Perreault (Rachelle) of Sudbury. Predeceased by his 4 brothers and his sister. Sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his 10 grandchildren and his 8 great-grandchildren. A former resident of Markstay for 50 years. William was a millwright at the Copper Cliff Refinery with Inco where he retired after 39 years of service. FLINSKY, Audrey - (1925 - 2008) - The family announces with sorrow, after a valiant struggle, her passing at the Timmins and District Hospital on Wednesday morning, March 5th, 2008 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of William Anthony Flinsky. Loving mother of Shelley Ann (Matthew) Alden and cherished grandmother of Samantha all of South Porcupine and granddaughter Mandy- Lyn Antoniou of Victoria, B.C. His greatest love was working with heavy equipment and he enjoyed cars and hunting in his younger days. He was kind-hearted and generous, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. POIRIER, Marie E. "Leona" - 76, Residence Acadienne, Cheticamp, died March 3, 2008, in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Cheticamp. Born in Cheticamp, she was a daughter of the late Placide and Nellie (LeFort) Chiasson. Leona was a dedicated school teacher before becoming a devoted wife and mother to her family. A warm, kind and gentle spirit, she had a love of all things Cape Breton - a good cup of tea, toast and jam, and step dancing to the sound of fiddle music. Leona loved to sing and enjoyed every moment of her many years as a choir member and parishioner of St. Peter's Church, Cheticamp. With her passion for sewing, knitting, hooking and ceramics, she created many beautiful works. Leona was loved by many for her beautiful smile and will be missed. Surviving are her husband, Gordon Poirier; sons, Gordon Jr., Boston, Mass.; Milton (Margie), Edmonton, Alta.; daughters, Joanne, Dartmouth; Louise (Dan) McGillivray, Burlington, Ont.; brothers, John Joe (Marguerite) Chiasson, Montreal; Daniel (Erika) Chiasson, Belleville, Ont.; sisters, Sophie Fulmer, Vancouver; Alberthe (Edmond) AuCoin, Petit Etang; grandchildren, Chelsea, Zachary and Sarah Poirier, Kate, Anne and Maddy McGillivray, Lauren and Brittany Poirier. ROUSSEAU, Eleanor Vera "Ellie" - 49, Dartmouth, passed away March 1, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Middle Musquodoboit, she was a daughter of Arie and Thelma (Stewart) Levering, stepmother, Jackie Levering, and stepfather, Jerry Czajkowski. Ellie worked for Halifax Nursing Home and Colonial Nursing Home for many years in the nursing/dietary field. She currently worked for Harbour Glen Manor for the past nine years. She also worked part-time at Share Care in Spryfield. She was a true caregiver, devoting her time to others, especially her grandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her third grandchild. She is survived by daughter, Christy Rousseau, Dartmouth, and her children, Alexis (8), Lucas (4); sisters, Achsah (Walter) Mosher, New Brunswick; Wanda (Alain) Beauchamp, Bedford; their children, Marc-Andre, Matthew, Chantal; brother, David Levering, and his children, Jamie, Jessica, Sara. MINER, ALBERT MURRAY - It is with great sadness we announce the death of Albert Miner. After a courageous battle with Pancreatic Cancer, he passed away on Monday March 3rd, 2008. Born on July 11th, 1954 in Wolfville, NS, he is survived by his loving wife, Susan (Swain) Miner; two daughters, Krista Miner of Sussex Corner, NB and Megan (Chris) Thorne of Wards Creek, NB; two brothers, Alex and Leigh both of Saint John, NB; two sisters, Geraldine (Terry) Perrier of Calgary, AB and Bonnie (Clifford) Lavoie of Miramichi, NB; two grandchildren, Tyler and Cody; father in-law, Charles Swain and several aunts, cousins, brother in-laws, sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Albert is the son of the late Gerald Miner and Anna (Swim). Albert was predeceased by his mother in-law Ann Swain. Albert was very active in his community, he played hockey for the Woodchucks, coached girls softball and hockey and he was involved in Dairy Town Classic basketball. Albert was employed with the D.O.T. for 23 years and was active in CUPE Local # 1190 for many years. COTE, ALBERTINE RITA - The passing of Albertine R. Cote of Saint John, wife of the late Albert Cote, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on March 3, 2008. Born in Shediac, NB, she was the daughter of the late Albert LeBlanc and Elise (Boudreau) Leblanc. Albertine was a former member of St. Peter's Church. She is survived by 4 sons, Paul (Liz) of NFLD, Tom (Pauline) of Grand Bay, Philip of Saint John and Arthur of Edmonton, Alberta; 8 daughters, Liz Myers (Raymond) of Saint John, Stella Cote of Saint John, Jean Wells of Saint John, Lena Cote of Calgary, Alberta, Maggie Boudreau (Stephen) of Nerepis, NB, Edna Clarke (Darrel) of Edmonton, Alberta, Florence Parlee of Saint John and Alice Watts of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Lino "Tony" Tonin August 05, 1932 - March 04, 2008 Passed away suddenly at the Hamilton General Hospital on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, in his 76th year. Devoted husband of 51 years to Elena (Helen) nee Bertoncini. Cherished and loving father of Linda (Chris) Mills and Paula Waddell (Rick). Very proud and loving grandfather to Marc and Rebecca Mills and Breanne Waddell. Dear brother of Clara Furlanetto. He will join his parents Angelo and Jennie Tonin, and brother-in-law Dante Bertoncini. He was a wonderful uncle to many nieces in Hamilton and Toronto. He recently retired from a career in sales with Unico Foods and Admark Sales. He loved people and he loved to talk. He was the eternal optimist who took great pride in his family and their accomplishments. His family was his life. He was past president of the Italo Canadian Club, served on church boards of Regina Mundi Church and Annunciation of Our Lord Church. Family and friends are invited to visit at the FRISCOLANTI FUNERAL CHAPEL, 43 Barton Street East (near James) on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Vigil Prayers on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Annunciation of Our Lord Church on Friday at 10 a.m. Entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Frederick Samuel Bland September 09, 1920 - March 05, 2008 Born September 9, 1920, passed peacefully at Alexander Place, Waterdown on Wednesday afternoon, March 5, 2008, Fred Bland, in his 88th year. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marjorie (nee Burton). He will be sadly missed, but lovingly remembered by his son Ted, daughter-in-law Anne and grandsons Josh and Aaron. Throughout his life, Fred loved being involved in helping others especially veterans. He was a member of the Royal Corp of Engineers, Second Battalion, life member of War Amps of Canada, life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 551, a member of Waterdown Masonic Lodge #357 and an honorary member of the Rameses Shrine Temple, Scarborough. He was President of the Scarborough Baseball Association and served as an Alderman in Ward Six in Scarborough for many years, before he and Marj retired to the Waterdown area in 1980. KALLIO, William R. (Bill) 1927-2008 - A life, well lived, ended on Sunday, March 2, 2008, at Extendicare, Kirkland Lake. Bill is survived by his loving wife Irene (née Simbirski), of Extendicare, formerly of Noranda, QC., his son Richard Kallio and daughter-in-law Laurie Bassett, of Kirkland Lake, sister Lillian Johnson (late Elmer), Victoria, B.C., brother-in-law Larry Fortin of Millbrook, ON., and sister-in-law Rose Simbirski of Mississauga, ON., as well as many nieces and nephews. He was especially close to his nephew Lorne Fortin (Wendy and Sarah) of Newmarket, ON., his niece Eileen Grant (Doug, Robbie, Lisa) and families and nephew Richard Johnson (Tracy) of Victoria, B.C. Bill will be missed by his lifelong friend, Allen Laporte of Arntfield, QC. He was predeceased by his mother and father Ilmi and Heikki Kallio, his brother Henry (late wife Sylvia) and is sister Ina Fortin. Bill was born in Kipling, ON., and moved to Arntfield, Quebec at a young age. His entire working life (40 years) was spent at Noranda's Horne Smelter, where he was the Senior Structural Designer. His work at Horne saw him travel the globe overseeing the installation of his invention, the Horne Waffle Hood, used for the improvement of the smelting process. Bill was an accomplished artist and musician; many of his works of art hang in homes and churches throughout Quebec and Ontario. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 2 pm at Extendicare, Kirkland Lake with the Rev. Edna Murdy officiating. Honourary pallbearers include nephews Lorne Fortin, Richard Johnson, Peter Simbirski, his niece Eileen Grant, and friends Allen Laporte and Rick Bassett. Interment will take place in the spring in Noranda, QC. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to Extendicare Activity Fund, (Postal Bag 3900, Kirkland Lake, ON., P2N 3P4). Abram Duerksen (February 28, 1920 - March 4, 2008) DUERKSEN, Abram - Went peacefully to be with his Lord and Saviour, on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the St. Catharines General Hospital, just a few days after his 88th birthday. He is greatly loved and missed by his wife, Erna (nee Welke), his closest partner and friend for almost 60 years. He is predeceased by his infant children Albert and Heidi, his sister Marianne (Dassler), and a granddaughter Rebecca (Plett). With many, many memories of fun, jokes, trips, strong faith and lots of love, he leaves to mourn his children Elsa Dyck (Ed), Lydia Plett (Walter), Erna Storm (George), Neil (Angie), Harry (Ziggy), and Marianne Toews (Tony). CAMERON, Margaret B. (Williams) 1926 - 2008 Margaret passed away peacefully on the 3rd of March 2008 in Black Diamond, AB following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's disease. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, the 8th of March at 1:00 p.m. at the United Church in Arrowwood. Margaret married Edward in Arrowwood, AB and the family later moved to Burnaby, BC. Upon retirement, Margie and Eddie joyfully returned to their roots in Arrowwood where Margie was an eager volunteer in many local community events and the United Church. She particularly enjoyed her time assisting at the Arrowwood Museum. Margaret is survived by her sons, Bert (Donna), Bob (Nina) and daughter Sandra (Larry) and her brother Leigh. LUOMA, Sulo Samuel Sulo Samuel was born to John and Sanna Luoma on December 7, 1930 at his home near Trochu, Alberta. He died peacefully on March 1, 2008 at the Three Hills Health Care Centre after a year-long battle with cancer. Sulo married Connie Carlson on November 5, 1960 and they lived on the farm at Trochu, where they raised their four children. They were married thirty-three years, when Connie died after a long struggle with MS. On November 27, 1994 he married Elizabeth Hamm. Sulo was predeceased by his parents John and Sanna, his wife Connie, and two infant grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Perry. He is survived and will be missed by his wife Elizabeth, his brother Aarne, and his four children, Larry, Ruth, Barb and Kerry Ek, and Donna and Nathan Perry, and ten grandchildren, Karissa and Alanna Howard; Tyler Luoma; Jennessa, Jonah, and Jacelyn Ek; and Steven, Arielle, Alexander and Jackson Perry. He is also survived by his stepchildren and grandchildren, Trevor and Faye Hamm (William and Charis), Travis Hamm (Dylan Cunningham), and Sandra Hamm. ROACH, Maddalena (Madeline) Velia (nee Pavan) June 27, 1923 - March 3, 2008 Maddalena (Madeline) Velia Roach (nee Pavan) of Calgary passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Madeline was born on June 27, 1923 in Bellevue, AB and settled in Calgary in the early fifties after exploring Canada. Madeline spent her life devoted to her family and after retirement from Eaton's she loved to travel as well as bowl, garden, aquasize, and knit for hospitalized babies. Madeline is sadly missed by her loving children Dale and Tracy; granddaughters, Ashley, Heather and Andrea. She also had a special relationship with Ashley's mother Delphine Roach; special nieces Julie (Gino) Galasso and Clarice Bottos. As well as many great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Madeline was predeceased by her parents Arturo and Giuditta Pavan, her only sister Lea Ziraldo; nephew Tiziano Bottos and great-nephew David Bottos; as well as her brother-in-law Luigi Ziraldo. SHEPPARD, Clarissa Amy (nee Sparks) 1909 - 2008 Clarissa Amy Sheppard passed away suddenly on March 4, 2008, at the age of 98 years, following the recent passing of her husband Richard on February 27, 2008, merely a week apart. She is sadly missed by her four children: Evelyn (Willis) Wright, Genie Sheppard, Gordon (Linda) Sheppard and Douglas (Val) Sheppard; and some twenty-eight grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Clare was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on March 26, 1909 and was raised in a few different places from Manitoba to Alberta as she grew up. Some of her happiest memories were from the six years spent in Verdun, Manitoba. Another fond memory was in Regina where she joined the LDS Church. When her father got back from the war, she remembered homesteading a place named Cromer, Manitoba. She met her husband Richard working summers at the Alpine Club in Banff, where he was a handyman, and they were married in June of 1938. Clare worked housekeeping for a short time when they were newlyweds until Richard became a Flight School Instructor for the Royal Canadian Air Force in High River where they lived for three years. They raised four children and Clare will be remembered as a devoted mother to them all. She will also be remembered as a person who knew how to work with her hands. She loved to crochet, quilt, make candles and anything else that she could. Funeral Services for both Richard and Clare will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bow Valley Chapel, 2526 - 24 Avenue N.W., Calgary on Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. WALPER, Donald Michael Donald Michael Walper, 87, born in Cereal, Alberta on February 27, 1921, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2008, in Palm Springs, California. To celebrate his life Don is survived by his beloved wife, Betty, of fifty-nine years; his children Wendy Langille (Stewart), Beverly Molloy (Peter), Karlene Keck (Norbert); his grandchildren Michael Gill (Verna), Shauna Stuber (Brett), Lisa and Kelly Keck; his great-grandchildren, Mathia and Lillianna Stuber and Tristan and Bianca Gill. Don cherished his family and friends and did not need much of an excuse to party and enjoy life with them. Don had many careers during his life, none more close to his heart than thirty-five years serving rural Alberta. His twenty-five years with Farmhand Farm Machinery and ten years as co-owner/operator of the Massey Ferguson Dealership in Olds provided an abundance of friends across Alberta. Don and Betty retired to Calgary in 1985 to be close to family. Don was in involved in all kinds of sports, but excelled at Hockey, Baseball and Curling. He played most of his hockey in the Central Alberta League; he also played in the Peace River League. After hockey he refereed in the Central Alberta League and the Big Six League in Calgary. He played golf at the Elks Club, Calgary and Sun City West, Arizona in the winter and recently took up marshalling at Glen Eagles, Cochrane. After his golf days, Don volunteered driving seniors for the Calgary Seniors Resources Society. He spent many years and many miles doing this, which he enjoyed. A celebration of his life will be held in Calgary this spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Don's memory to a charity of your choosing.
