LIIMU, Aila 2008-02-27 Aila Liimu, aged 76 years passed peacefully with family and friends at her side Monday, February 25, 2008. Aila was born July 2, 1932 in Sippola, Finland. She attended school and wed in Finland. In 1962 she moved to Canada with her husband Kalevi to start the family business Finn Meats. Aila loved spending time in her flower beds at the family summer cottage at Dog Lake and at her home. Always an open house with family and friends greeted with her laughter, kindness, delicious baked goods and coffee. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Kalevi; son Jukka; daughter Tiina; grandchildren Jarred and Wyatt (mother) Lynne Liimu; also survived by Debra Reith, Ulla Nieminen, Tarmo Pihlaja, and many close friends. Raili Olli and other family in Finland, Riitta Djaken in Sweden. Aila was predeceased by parents Ida Maria Anonen, Anton Olli and her 11 siblings. A Celebration of Aila‘s Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 29th, 2008 in Hilldale Lutheran Church, officiated by Rev. Jari Lahtinen. AHEARN, Gertrude Elizabeth Mary (nee Flanagan). In her ninety-third year, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008. She was loved by all who knew her. Gert's survivors include her daughters Susan E. Prue and Mary Eileen Ahearn; her four grandchildren Christina L. Curry; Laurie Ann Babbie (Gary); Brenda Ahearn; and Eric Ahearn; five great-grandchildren Samantha E. Prue; John P. Sutton; Dakota B. Prue; Montanna A. Kramer and Madison Ahearn. Also by Agnes Flanagan (sister-in-law in her ninety-third year, Ross' wife) and her sons Brian and Ross Flanagan and their families. Gert was predeceased by her husband William J. Ahearn, her son Michael J. Ahearn (Sylvia); Gertrude's identical twin brothers, James (Ruth) and Ross Flanagan, her life long friend Janet Lawless. Gert gave communion to her "little old ladies" for about ten years. All her friends in St. Monica's Church and parish in NDG/Montreal, Quebec, also miss Gert. After a lengthy battle with cancer she has gone on to be with her true love Heinz Dressler. Elisabeth Warmbold was born in Hannover, Germany on April 04, 1908. In 1951 moved to Thunder Bay and then to St. Catharines in 1986. In 1988 she was admitted to Heidehof Home. She was a member of the Lutheran Church baptized and confirmed in Germany. Her interests were her husband, her children, her home. She is survived by her sons Dieter(Elvira), and Jack, her daughters Waltraut Scarcello(Romeo), Anne Seaman Tim), 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchilden, 6 great-great grandchilden. Predeceased by her husband Wilhelm (1976), daughter Elizabeth (1999), and one great granddaughter (1990). Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 1:00 pm in the Sargent & Son Funeral Home, 21 N. Court Street with Rev. Matthew Diegel of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church presiding. Immediately following the service a reception will be held in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. Interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. ARMSTRONG, Avis Pearl ARMSTRONG, Avis Pearl - 71, Chester, died Monday, February 25, 2008, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in New Ross, she was the daughter of Noel and Pearl Anne (Broome) Crossley. Prior to ill health, Avis was active in many community projects and organizations. She was a member of Chester United Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary and taught Sunday school for a number of years. She served as secretary and past president of the Women's Institute, secretary for the Chester Garden Club and the Ladies Auxiliary of F.E. Butler Branch 44, Royal Canadian Legion. She was past member of the local association of brownies and girl guides and was a troop leader for a number of years and was also a member of the original commission that established the Lido. Avis was always interested in her community and was willing to help in any way she could. She enjoyed camping, square dancing, traveling and time spent with family and friends. A big part of her life was her 10 nieces and nephews from her extended family; her 23 great-nieces and nephews, and her special cousins. Avis is survived by her husband, Cyril; daughter, Daphne, Halifax; her brother, Wilbert, St. Catharines, Ont. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Davis Funeral Home, Chester. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday in Chester United Baptist Church, Rev. Dan Green officiating. Burial to follow in Pinehill Cemetery, Chester. EISNOR, Philip F. EISNOR, Philip F. - 76, Coldbrook, Kings Co., died peacefully in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, with his family by his side. Born on March 17, 1931 in Halifax, he was the eldest son of the late Anthony F. and Marguerite L. (Morash) Eisnor. Philip is survived by his loving wife, Elaine; his son, Michael (Susanne); grandson, Andrew; stepgrandson, Nathan Moore, all of Coldbrook; stepgrandson, Corey (Joanna) Moore, Fredericton, N.B.; his brother, Eric (Judy), Antigonish; many nieces and nephews. Philip was involved in the aviation and marine industries for over 40 years. He was also a private pilot and a professional model builder, having built numerous scale ship and aircraft models for various Canadian and American museums and private collectors. Philip retired several years ago after a career as a Senior Marine Mechanical Draftsman. He was involved in the Royal Canadian Air Cadet movement as an instructor, was a founding member of the Dartmouth Experimental Aircraft Association and a member of the Armdale and Dartmouth Yacht Clubs. By his request, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, February 28, in White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 29, in St. James Anglican Church, Kentville, Archdeacon Lynn Uzans officiating. RUFFO, Rocco Mario - In loving memory of Rocco Mario Ruffo, 80 years, who passed away Tuesday, February 26th, 2008 at the SRH - St. Joseph's Health Centre. A proud and passionate railroader he had been a telegraph operator, train order operator and train dispatcher with the CPR for many years retiring in 1989. In healthier days Rocco was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing. A devout Roman Catholic he attended St. Patrick's Church being a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus of the Parish K of C Council #11522. He was also past treasurer of the Rail Canada Traffic Controllers. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humour which he generously shared with all he met. Predeceased by son Terrance and daughter in law Susan. Loving grandmother to 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
