BONN, John Ervin - 1947-2008 John Bonn of Mirror, Alberta, born in Kentville, N.S. on November 6, 1947, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, February 23, 2008 surrounded by his family in the Red Deer Regional Hospital. John enjoyed a lengthy career in the oilfield industry working throughout Alberta and B.C. and was well respected within the industry as the owner-operator of Bonn's Oilfield Inspection Services Ltd. John loved to be surrounded by his family and friends and passed his time with crossword puzzles, watching sports, playing golf and most of all puttering around the acreage. John was predeceased by his father John Francis and his mother Ida Beatrice (nee Myers). John is survived by his loving wife Marianne Dorothy (nee Kennedy) and his children Dan (Susan), Craig (Sherry), Sean (Lindy), Sheri Hunt (Leo) and Sarah (Greg). John will also be forever remembered by his grandchildren Alexander, Danielle, Ethan, Cale, Abigail, Gage and Shaun. John's family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the very kind nurses of the Palliative Care Unit 32 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital for their help, patience and guidance. HAYES, Mildred Irene February 9, 1919 - February 17, 2008 Mildred Irene Hayes of Calgary passed away on February 17, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Mildred was born on February 9, 1919 in Ghost Pine Creek, AB. Mildred worked as a treasurer for Senator Patrick Burns' ranches for forty-five years. She loved sewing and crafts and enjoyed travelling and hiking but her family was her greatest love. Mildred was the matriarch of the family, quietly guiding her brothers and sisters through life. She was a charter member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church and was very active in the ladies group. Mildred is survived by her two brothers, Norman Hayes and Jim (Marilyn) Hayes both of Calgary; her sister-in-law Eddie Hayes; her twelve nieces and nephews; twenty-four great-nieces and nephews; and twenty-four great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Ruth Hayes; her sister Jean (George) McGowan; her brother Bob Hayes; and her sister-in-law Gaile Hayes. WOOD, Lorraine Alice - A resident of Chatham, Lorraine Alice Wood died on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Chatham Kent Health Alliance at the age of 65. Born in Chatham, Lorraine is predeceased by her mother Laura (Gardner) Slater (2000) and step-father George Slater (1999). Lorraine is survived by many loving cousins, family and friends. She was a member First Presbyterian Church and Choir, and was an active volunteer for the Breakfast Program. CLOES, Basil Richard “Dick“ - Peacefully at Victoria Hospital, London, on Friday February 22, 2008. Loving husband of Betty Jean (Dowswell) Cloes, passed away after a battle with cancer he bravely fought for 21 years. Dear father of Victoria Brann of Corunna, Dwayne Cloes and his wife Tara of Sarnia, Susan Kucera and her husband Dan of Alvinston and Todd Cloes and his wife Pam of Corunna. Dick loved harness racing and was a familiar face at Hiawatha Race Track and was a member of the Point Edward Ex- Servicemens Club where he could often be seen at the Lord's Table. FETHERSTON, Jacqueline Elaine March 1, 1950 - February 21, 2008 Jacqueline Elaine Fetherston, beloved wife of Dan Portigal, of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the age of 57 years. Jacqueline was born and educated in Calgary, AB and started teaching with the Calgary Separate School Board, and was President and a member of the Alberta Teachers Association for many years. Even as a young teacher she inspired her students to seek out the best in their education opportunities and over the length of her career was referred to by them as "the best teacher I ever had". Jacqueline was passionate about her commitment to education and to her fellow teachers. She was designated a Master Teacher by her peers. She was involved with both St. Bernard's Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed running and participated in road racing. Jacqueline was very attached to her grandson and her dogs. She was a member of the P.C. party and past President with the Calgary Bow Constituency. Jacqueline's family and friends will console themselves with the memory of her capacity for caring, her thoughtfulness, introspection, dry humour and startling generosity. She was devoted to Dan, who shared her love of teaching, her family, and her dogs, who gave her much delight. Besides her loving husband Dan, Jacqueline is survived by her three daughters and sons-in-law, Danielle and Scott Shearer, Lori and Darren Jones, and Lisa and Drew Smith all of Calgary; and her grandson Cohen; two loving sisters Val Fetherston and family, of Victoria, BC and Joan Laundy and family, of San Diego, CA. She is also survived by her nieces Kimberly, Samantha, Sophia and Hannah and their families; and her nephews, Russell and Graham. She will be deeply missed by her aunt and uncle, Alex and Patty Skene, her uncle J.R. (Jack) Fetherston and her cousins all across Canada. Jacqueline was predeceased by her parents Bernice in 1989 and C.R. (Ted) Fetherston in 2000. Hélène Collette 1917 - 2008 Hélène Collette, age 90, of Bouctouche has passed away after a brief illness at her residence on Sunday February 24th, 2008. Married to Daniel Collette, she was born in Bouctouche on August 10th, 1917 to the late Adelin and the late Henriette (LeBlanc) Melanson. Hélène is survived by her husband, Daniel; three daughters, Simonne LeBlanc (Ola) of Bouctouche, Yolande Collette, Louiselle Collette both of Moncton; three sons, André (Gloria), Raoul (Edith), Hermond (Gisèle) all of Bouctouche; one sister, Alice Girouard of Bouctouche; one half sister, Géraline Fortin (Zeph) of Moncton; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. ALLEN, REGINALD LORNE Reginald L. Allen of Lower Hainesville passed away February 22, 2008 at Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Born at Keswick in 1912, he was a son of the late George and Hannah (Dunphy) Allen. Reginald was a veteran of the Second World War, serving as the only member from the Maritimes with the Calgary Highlanders. He was trained as a mechanic and followed the forces throughout England, Ireland, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He began work as a farmer, later moving to Fredericton where he was employed at the Marysville Cotton Mill as a weaver and mechanic. In 1946, Reginald made a personal commitment to the Lord, and served his church and community faithfully from that day forward, serving in many capacities in every church he attended. In the 1970's he retired and moved back to Lower Hainesville to enjoy gardening and working in his woodlot. Reginald is survived by a daughter, Melissa Murray, Lower Hainesville; a son, George Allen (Dolores), Green Valley, Arizona, USA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Daisy Allen in 2006; three sisters, Marguerite, Jean and Muriel; three brothers, Raymond, Walter and Hazen Allen; a daughter-in-law, Ann Allen; a son-in-law, Keith Murray; and a grandson, Allan Keith Murray. Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Lower Hainesville Wesleyan Church, 468 Central Hainesville Road on Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. MASSIE, Isabelle 1917 - 2008 Isabelle Massie went peacefully to be with her Lord, on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Foothills Medical Centre at the age of 90 years. Isabelle was born June 16, 1917 in Rothesay Bay, Isle of Bute, Scotland and came to Canada in 1921. She grew up and attended school in Munson, Alberta. On February 14, 1940 she married Peter Massie and they farmed in the Crossfield and Madden districts until 1958, when they moved to Crossfield and then to Calgary. Isabelle loved to be busy - she loved cooking, baking, entertaining, visiting, knitting and reading. She was always busy in church life and for the past eighteen years has been a member of Grace Baptist Church, teaching Sunday School, helping in AWANA, helping in the kitchen and until two years ago baking every month for The Mustard Seed. She loved all sports and watched them on TV. In later years when she could not go visiting she would send cards, make a phone call just to say hello, and offer an encouraging word. Her greatest joy was her family, and she will be missed greatly by them and by many who knew her as "Grandma Massie". Isabelle is survived by her daughter, Anne; grandchildren Tim and Terry Harder (Calgary), Janice and John Hubbard; great-grandchildren Matthew, Nate, Andrew and Emily Hubbard of Mont Vernon, New Hampshire. She is also survived by her nieces Jean Cochrane, Doris (Don) Wyman, Joyce (Harry) Roth, and nephew Dale (Beth) Massie as well as great-nieces and nephews, and other relatives. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1982; her son-in-law, Laverne in 1987; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Lydia Massie; niece and nephew-in-law, Phyllis and Melvin Farquharson and nephew-in-law Keith Cochrane. COOPER, Ralph Frederick - At the Brantford General Hospital, on Saturday, February 23, 2008, at the age of 73. After a lengthy illness with C.O.P.D., fought with courage, dignity and faith. Cherished husband of Beatrice Cooper (nee: Butler). Loving father of Pearl Hardman (Scott), Patricia Cardy (Don), and Michael Cooper. SPENCER, SHIRLEY E. - The death of Shirley Elizabeth (Lutes) Spencer of Sussex occurred February 23rd, 2008 at the Sussex Health Centre at the age of 77. Born in Moncton, a daughter of the late Ross and Greta (Brewster) Lutes. Shirley was the wife of the late William J. Spencer who passed away in 2001. She is survived by daughters, Lynn Clark (Fred) of Saint John, Debbie Spencer (George Proctor) of Fredericton and Jane Brown (Douglas) of Sussex Corner; her son, Clifford Spencer (Claudette) of Moncton; grandchildren, Christopher Clark (Cindy), Mark Clark (Johanna), Scott Spencer, Megan Brown and Jennifer Hogan; great grandchildren, Rebecca, Gillian, Brandon and Riley Clark; sister, Doris Mitchell; and brother, Wendell Lutes both of Ontario. MACLEOD, Donald 2008-02-25 Mr. Donald Colin MacLeod, age 62 years, passed away peacefully after a short but courageous battle with ALS (Lou Geherig‘s Disease) on Monday, February 25, 2008 with his family by his side in hospital. Donald was born on June 15, 1945 in Fort William. He attended Isabella and Kingsway Schools. His love of stock car racing began at age 7 when he attended his first race at the Exhibition Grounds. His fascination for cars, stock cars, and trucks only continued to grow. He enjoyed cruising Victoria Avenue in any one of his many vehicles. It was at the Victoria Grille that he met the love of his life, his beautiful bride, Charlotte Kovac. They were married September 14, 1968. Donald raced stock cars at Riverview for about 10 years, and travelled with his family all over Canada and the United States to attend races, sight see and camp. He was a former member of the Lakehead Antique Car Club and the Minnesota Street Rod Association. He attended many auto swap meets and was able to pass on his love of cars to his son, working in the garage and helping him with his stock cars. His first accomplishment after retirement was completing his ‘32 Ford and his ‘38 Ford both of which he loved to drive. That one project that was left undone was his ‘57 Chev. Donald worked driving truck for many local companies prior to being hired by the Thunder Bay Fire Department in 1967. During his 32 1/2 years with the Fire Department Donald worked his way up to Platoon Chief until his retirement in 1999. Donald enjoyed going to the Coney Island and spending time with his wonderful grandchildren. Donald will be sadly missed by his loving wife Charlotte; son Murray (fiance Keri Sidney and her daughter Denae); daughter Nadine Thompson (Randy); grandchildren Nicole and Matthew; niece Adrienne Main as well as numerous other cousins and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents Kenneth "Scotty" in 1978 and Helen in 1990 and sister Diane Main in 1985. Cremation has taken place and Funeral Services for the late Mr. Donald MacLeod will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James with The Venerable Archdeacon M.S. Conliffe officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday evening in the chapel. If friends so desire memorial donations made to the ALS Society would be greatly appreciated.
