GRIFFITHS, Janet Dolores (Nee Dion) - Peacefully succumbed to cancer with her husband Bill and son Marc at her side on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Hospice Niagara in her 75th year. Beloved wife of Bill for 56 years, loving mother of Marc, predeceased by her daughter Lynelle Joyce and her husband Robert, dear mother-in-law of Diane. Survived by her sister Aileen Priddy and brother Bill (Anita) Dion all of St. Catharines and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Wilfred, Connie and Eugene, her sister Edna, parents John and Josephine Dion. Beloved cousin of Florence Logan of Midland. Mrs. Griffiths was a founding member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church where she was a devoted and active member of the Catholic Women's League and a dedicated member of the choir. She had worked for the C.N.I.B., Linhaven and Regional Municipality of Niagara for 20 years and took early retirement in 1979. Cremation has taken place. MAMEDE, Emily J. (January 11, 1978 January 11, 2008) - Former Niagara-on- the-Lake resident Emily Mamede died January 11, 2008 at her home in Toronto. Emily was a kind and generous person, who was very accepting of others. She had an artist's soul and was a talented writer herself, especially of poetry. She was an animal lover, and could always be found with at least one cat nearby, and often a small zoo, regardless of how much space was available for her furry friends. Needless to say, she was a vegetarian. As a child, she excelled at public speaking and was a regular participant in the Kiwanis Speech Arts. She was a fitness buff, music lover, and an avid reader. She could always be found with headphones and a good book. She attended Denis Morris High School in St. Catharines, and continued her education at Niagara College and Brock University. She will be sadly missed by her loving parents, Jose and Moirya Mamede (nee Storm), brother and sister-in-law Ed and Colleen Mamede (nee Cadorette), brother Gabriel Mamede, and nieces Sarah and Katie Mamede, all her extended family, and her close friend Rob Plaunt. Emily was preceded in death by her infant brother Benjamin Mamede. EVERRETT, Joel Allen - Passed suddenly at the Toronto Western Hospital on January 11, 2008, as the result of a tragic fall in his residence in Port Colborne, in his 47th year. Joel is the beloved son of John and Louise, and brother of Tom (Cathy) and John (Mary); adored by his daughter, Emily and his nephew Tom and nieces Vanessa, Courtney, and Deana. He will be missed by his only aunt and uncle, Shirley and Keith and the Kirwan cousins. Emily, his precious daughter, was his deepest love and the pride of his short life. Recollecting the recent Christmas family gathering is especially bittersweet and poignant since Joel appeared happier than ever in his new job (Lakeside Steel) and hopeful prospects for the future. Many of Joel's interests were sports-centered either as a player, of hockey, golf, slo-pitch or darts, or even as a devoted fan of his favourite Canadiens or Seahawks. Chances are that any of these events would often be tied in with sharing a pint with buddies at his second home (Trappers) or at his own garage ‘sport centre'. His love of people covered as well, his work associates and his good neighbours. Whether it was his friendliness, humour, kindness or generosity, he was normally a fun and wonderful guy to be around. Born in Port Arthur, Lois was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s League of Corpus Christi Church. Lois was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Eric, sister Georgene Grant and granddaughter Kaitlyn. McCAUL, Michael James Joseph Sr. 2008-01-16 Mr. Michael James Joseph McCaul Sr., age 59 years of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully in the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 with his family by his side. Mike was born and raised in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on August 26, 1948. After graduating from high school (K.L.C.V.I.) Mike attended Haileybury School of Mines, graduating with honors in 1971. He started his career in the mining industry as an Explosive Technician with Dupont of Canada in North Bay and then he transferred to New Brunswick. Mike later moved to Thunder Bay and was employed by Nelson Aggregate as the Branch Manager until his retirement. His interests were golfing, fishing, and playing cribbage, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren playing games and doing puzzles. Mike was President of the Current River Cribbage Club. Mike is survived by his wife Linda; children: Dayna (Denis Sr.) Trush and their children Denis Jr. and Lauryn, Stacy McCaul (Roger Farn) and their children: Katrina Joks, Tomasz Joks Jr. and Mya Farn, Michael (Coral) McCaul Jr. and their children: Jonathan, Jesslyn, and Jadyn; brother Clifford (Judy) McCaul of North Bay. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother, Marie Luce McCaul (nee Lamarche) and father James Joseph McCaul. Funeral Services for Michael McCaul Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 19th, 2008 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Ron Rogalski. LARONDE, Dillon Rene 2008-01-16 It is with sorrow that we announce the passing away peacefully of Dillon Rene Laronde, age 77 years, on Monday, January 14, 2008 at St. Joseph‘s Hospital in Elliot Lake. Beloved husband of Carol Ann Laronde of Elliot Lake; loving father of Dwayne (predeceased), Eugene (Brenda) of Timmins, Roxann of Thunder Bay, Murray (Karen) of Alberta and Richard (predeceased). Dillon is the cherished grandfather of six and is survived by his two sisters, Pat of Vancouver and Anita of Larder Lake. He will be sadly missed by numerous friends. Dillon is a proud Korean Veteran, worked for 27 years for (CanCorp) now Bombardier in Thunder Bay prior to retiring in Elliot Lake in 1997. A memorial service was held in Elliot Lake. Letourneau,Mary 2008-01-17 It is with great sadness that the Letourneau family announce the passing of their mother Mary Letourneau on January 12, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Nova Scotia on September 13, 1927, and lived most of her adult life in Thunder Bay. Mary was a great cook and ran several restaurants in Thunder Bay over the years. She loved bingo, playing cards and occasional trips to the casino. She also loved to travel, making regular trips to Nova Scotia, visiting family and friends, but most of all she enjoyed the family barbeques and get-togethers. Mary is survived by her daughter Sherry Hannah (Rick), sons Bobby, Camille, Gary (Cindy), 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, several brothers, sisters and relatives in Nova Scotia, as well as by her long-time companion Alcide (Pete) Poirier. Her parents Thomas and Bernadette Deon, husband Paul Letourneau Sr., son Paul Jr., as well as several brothers and sisters, predeceased her. With special thanks to Mary Gauvin, a very close friend who is always there in a time of need. Thanks to the nurses and doctors at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre and the Northern Regional Cancer Centre and St. Joseph‚s Hospice for their great care, compassion and understanding. THORNE (SQUIRES), LEIFA FRANCES "NANA" - The death of Leifa " Nana" Thorne, of Quispamsis, wife of Brian Thorne occurred on Tuesday, January 15th, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital following a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in St. Phillips, NL, on July 27th, 1951 she was the daughter of the late Eli and Frances (Poole) Squires. Leifa worked for Irving Oil Ltd. from 1988 to present. She was a member of St. Marks Church and the C.W.L. Most of all she loved to spend her time doing crafts with her family and friends. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband, Brian her children, and most of all her grandchildren who will always remember her as " Nana", and a large circle of friends and family. Besides her husband she is survived by her son, Brian Jr. (Christina) of Quispamsis; daughter, Lori Ann (Glen) Flowers of Quispamsis; grandchildren, Meghan, Craig, and Nicholas Thorne, brothers, Melvin, Eli, Max, Richard, and Tony Squires, sisters, Desma Dowden, Rose Mary Drover, Sandra Sharpe, Rosalind Davis, Lydia Lannom, and Patsie Lawlor, and several in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. COUGLE, AUDREY E. - The death of Mrs. Audrey E. (Calvin) Cougle, wife of Trueman A. Cougle of Saint John West occurred unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on January 15, 2008. Born in Saint John on May 7, 1917 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Jennie M. (Harkins) and John T. Calvin. Mrs. Cougle was a member of St. Jude's Anglican Church, and was Past President of the Trainmen and Engineers Lodge for Women. Being a homemaker and seamstress, she made quilts for several members of her family. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. Surviving in addition to her husband Trueman, are three sons, Mark (Pauline) Cougle, Brian (Dawn) Cougle, all of Saint John, Barry Cougle of Vancouver; one daughter, Carolyn (Gordon) Coburn of Fredericton; one brother, Everett Calvin of Saint John; one sister, Doris Martiin; one sister-in-law, Marjorie Calvin, all of Saint John; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. CARR, EARL C. - The death of Earl C. Carr of Kennebec Manor, husband of the late Eileen M. (Doiron) Carr, occurred at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, January 14, 2008. Mr. Carr was born in Geary, N.B., a son of the late Commadore and Marjorie (Murray) Carr, and had lived the greater part of his life in Saint John, where he had been employed at Atlantic Sugar Refineries for over forty years. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He was predeceased by a daughter, Gail Doucette; one brother, Woodrow Carr and two sisters, Vera Blakney and Vivian Porter. He is survived by four daughters, Lois Haglund of Bathurst, Paulette Doyle (Martin) of Quispamsis, and Heather Daigle and Wendy Green (Greg) both of Halifax; one brother, Kenneth (Midge) Carr of Geary; 9 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Geraldine (Gerry) A. M. Caissie Geraldine (Gerry) Caissie, 52 of Moncton, with her loving husband and family by her side, passed away peacefully at the Moncton Hospital on Monday, January 14th, 2008 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Moncton, she was the daughter of Alma (Gagnon) Blanchard of Moncton and the late Nicholas Blanchard (2006). Gerry was employed at the Comfort Inn with over 18 years service and attended St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on the Shediac River, but first and foremost was the quality time spent with her loving family and friends. Besides her loving husband of 31 years, John and her mother Alma, Gerry will be sadly missed by two sisters, Georgette Gaudet (Armand) and Doris Anderson (Tom), both of Moncton; one brother, Francis Blanchard (Brenda), Moncton; three brothers-in-law, Armand, Pierre and Danny Caissie; sister-in-law, Pierrette White; several nieces and nephews. GEREN, GRACE MARY "and his banner over me was love." Song of Solomon 2:4 Grace Mary Geren passed away in the Oromocto Public Hospital in the early morning of Monday, January 14. She was born in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, on March 22, 1921. She was the youngest child of James Alexander and Sarah Mayme (Stringer) Yuill. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Lee; son, Richard James (Alexis); grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Geren; great grandson, Keith James Geren; and her constant companion, Miss Kitty. For several years she was involved with the Oromocto United Church where she used her talent as a banner artist to beautify and enhance the church's interior. She was wife to Dick for 60 years. In the early 1950s, they moved to the northern wilderness of Quebec so that Dick could pursue his career in mining. Upon retirement they chose to settle in Oromocto where they shared many happy years together. She was predeceased by her husband; sisters, Hester and Doris; and brother, John Alexander. Our mother was a vibrant, creative, generous and caring person whose life touched many friends from coast to coast. A service to celebrate Grace's life will be held on Saturday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home, 108 Winnebago Street, Oromocto, NB, with Rev. RYAN , Christopher (Chris) Lincoln 1958 - 2008 Christopher (Chris) Lincoln Ryan, 49 ans, est décédé subitement le 1er janvier 2008 au Mexique. Fils de feu Don Guy Ryan et de feu Mary Lincoln Ryan, il laisse dans un immense chagrin ses frères Max et David. Chris aura atteint bien des sommets. Tout jeune, il a voyagé à travers le Canada, traversé les Rocheuses, gravi les volcans du Guatemala. À la mi-vingtaine, il découvre la jonglerie et s'installe à Montréal, où il s'inscrit à l'École nationale de cirque. Il débute sa carrière de jongleur dans les rues, mais rapidement il se produit sur les scènes du Québec et à travers le monde.Il fait les premières parties des stars internationales et parcourt le globe, offrant du rêve, du merveilleux, aux soldats de L'ONU. Chris était aussi reconnu pour son engagement total et absolu envers Narcotics Anonymous. Le respect et la gratitude que lui témoignaient les membres de l'association n'avaient d'égal que l'amour profond qu'il leur manifestait en retour. Chris a quitté cette terre trop tôt, beaucoup trop tôt, mais son souvenir demeure impérissable dans le coeur de tous ceux et celles qui ont le bonheur de l'avoir connu. HOSPODAR, Amalia (Molly) September 24, 1918 - January 10, 2008 Molly, a native Calgarian, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Josef, in 1984 and is survived by her son, Brian; daughter, Pat Rees; grandchildren, Kim Rees and Charlene (Jim) Wardell; and the delights of her life, her great-grandchildren, Timothy and Katrina Wardell. Never a lady to stand still, she was a volunteer for various organizations over the years, including the Cross Bow Auxiliary Hospital and Home and School Association. She was also a member of the West Hillhurst Go Getters and Bow Valley Lawn Bowling Club. Her proudest moment was being honoured with the prestigious "Woman of the Year" award in 1998 presented by the International Fraternal Order of Eagles. As a charter member, her dedication and service spanned fifty-nine years. Always ready for a new adventure, she traveled extensively. Still active in her eighties, she was proud to have lived a full and productive life. A Private Family Service was held to honour her life. MARKLE, C. Reed March 15, 1935 - January 14, 2008 Clayton Reed Markle passed away January 14, 2008 at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 72. Reed was born in Trochu, Alberta and attended rural schools graduating from Red Deer Composite High School. He was involved in farming, trucking and with Manulife prior to dedicating his career to Kerr Markle & Associates. He was a proud member of the Kinsmen, K-40 and the Rotary Clubs. Reed was a real sports enthusiast and enjoyed each whether he was curling, skiing, golfing or fishing. Reed loved people, loved sports and loved life. Reed leaves his loving wife Betty; a son Evan (Myrabelle); two daughters Reta (Scott) and Peggy (Clayton); grandchildren Nathan, Skaha and Searik; a sister Joan (Marvin) Loewen; and nephews Dan (Sylvia) and Russ (Joanne) and their families. Reed was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Nora Markle. A Memorial Service will be held at Snodgrass Funeral Home Okotoks, 200 Woodgate Road, Okotoks on Saturday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. As we know that Reed was an advocate of many important charities, if desired, memorial tributes could be made to a charity you feel passionate about.
