BROCKINGTON, Adele. (1912-2007) Passed away February 28, 2007 at the age of ninety-four at the Lakeshore General Hospital, beloved daughter of the late Phillip and the late Iva Brockington, dear sister of the late Felix and late Philip, and of Patricia Farmer of Pointe Claire, loving aunt (Jacky) to David (Suzanne) of Oakville Ont. Earold (Sally) of Alpharetta, Georgia, Eunice (Alan) of Huntsville, Alabama, Ivan (Fay) of Lindsay, Ont. great aunt to Mackenzie, Derek & Leanne Farmer, Sam Brockington and Ellen Martin, Alan, Greg and Ken Hislop, and very special friend to the late Bill Smith, will also be sadly missed by other relatives and friends. Jacky was born in Southampton England in 1912, year of the Titanic, and immigrated to Canada as a young girl. She worked for thirty-three years as a librarian at the Reddy Memorial Hospital, from where she took early retirement in 1966. She then proceeded to travel the world as a single women, alone, visiting such uncommon places as communist Russia, Europe, and also climbed the Machu Pichu. She regularly would be seen riding her bicycle well into her eighties, in the neighborhoods of Pointe Claire. OBITUARY SANDRA CALCAGNI (nee FORTUNATI) 1934 - 2007 Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the West Island Palliative Care in Kirkland, on February 28, 2007, at the age of seventy-three. Beloved wife of Francesco Calcagni. Loving mother of Franco and Roberto, dear grandmother of Micheal (Amanda), and proud great-grandmother of Anastasia and Christopher. Leaving two loving sisters in Rome, Anna-Maria and Renata while also leaving loving in-laws Wanda, Lina, Nardina (Anario), Ateo (Jeannine), Dalinda, many nephews, nieces, as well as many other relatives and dear friends. The family will receive condolences at: on Sunday, March 4 from 7 to 10 p.m. and on Monday from 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the St-Thomas A. COOMBES, Sandra. Peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at the Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga at the age of sixty-six. Beloved wife of John. Loving mother of John (Patsy), Kevin and Cindy Beauchemin. Cherished "Grammy" of Sarah, Meghan, Katie, Emily and Joey. Sandy is survived by her brothers Edward and Richard, sisters Linda and Donna, and many nieces and nephews. PHILLIPS, Sharon Greer. Age seventy-one, of Richmond, Virginia, Orange, Virginia, and Montreal, Quebec passed away on February 27, 2007, in the loving arms of her daughter Melissa. Beloved wife of the late Neil Franklyn Phillips and proud mother of Greer L. Phillips and Melissa R. Phillips. Sharon spent the latter years of her life rejoicing in the exploits and accomplishments of her cherished grandchildren Matthew Phillips, Marielle Cottrell, Schuyler Cottrell, Stephen Phillips, and Kieran Cottrell. Sharon is survived by her sister Diana Caldwell, brother Charles Greer, brother-in-law Ivan Phillips, sister-in-law Vicky Greer, son-in-law James H. Cottrell, Jr. and daughters-in-law Alice Phillips and Laura Phillips. Sharon was a devoted daughter to her parents Helyn Braskic Greer and James Whitely Greer. As President of Belvedere Stables, Sharon devoted twenty years to thoroughbred horse racing and breeding. She and her husband hosted members of the British Royal Family at both their homes in Montreal and Orange, VA as well as numerous charitable events. GRANT, Gloria Isabelle Peacefully and miraculously went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Monday, February 19, 2007. Gloria, beautiful and precious wife, mother and grandmother went home to be with the Lord in the early afternoon hours. She slipped away quietly in her sleep, left this world and was transported to the next, where she now stands before the throne of Christ, singing songs of great joy with the angels and the ransomed throng. Gloria is survived by her husband Delroy, her children Raymond, Kathryn and Julie. Additionally Gloria was blessed with ten grandchildren. Gloria was the eighth of twelve children and is survived by six remaining siblings. We, her immediate family, extended family on both the Pearce and Grant side are greatly saddened by her passing as well as the countless friends and lives who Gloria was blessed to have had an impact on. MEISNER, Mildred Estelle (nee Crowe) 1907-2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mildred Estelle Meisner, at the Post Inn Village Nursing Home in Oakville, on March 1, 2007, at the age of 100. Predeceased by her husband, Arnold in 1965, she will be sadly missed by her children Robert (Sara Jane) of Ottawa, Peggy (Bill Varey) of Mississauga, Donald (Mary) of St. Catharines, by her 5 grandchildren, James, Jeffery, Patricia, Jeffrey and Elizabeth and by her 9 great grandchildren. Born and educated in Onslow, Nova Scotia, Mildred, at the age of eighteen, entered the nursing school at Massachusetts General Hospital. After graduation, she worked in the operating room of the Phillips House at the Massachusetts General Hospital for 5 years prior to marrying Arnold in 1933. In 1936, she accompanied Arnold upon his transfer, by the Bank of Nova Scotia, to New Liskeard, Ont., where she resided for 63 years. In 1959, she, along with several other retired nurses, helped out at the New Liskeard and District Hospital during a flu epidemic. She stayed on, working part-time for 18 years. She was very active in the women's groups of St. Paul's United Church and sang in the church choir for over 50 years. After Arnold's death, she was able to enjoy travelling all over the world with her many friends and with her family. At her request, she was cremated and there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, in New Liskeard, at a date to be announced later. Interment at New Liskeard cemetery. SAULNIER, Alma Marie nee Comeau Died peacefully following a short illness on February 28th at the age of 80. Wife of 54 years of Maurice, loving maman of Marc, Russell and Lise, beloved mother-in-law of Donna Saulnier and Sheila Watson, adoring and adored grand-maman of Olivia. Predeceased by her parents Frederic and Leonie and siblings Sr. Mary Alfreda, Julius (Lina) and Sr. Rose Camilla. She leaves to mourn Clarence, Bernardin (Therese), Eveline, Alfreda, Marie (Edouard), Camilla (Robert) and cherished nieces and nephews. Born in Saulnierville, NS, she became a much loved kindergarten teacher in Aylmer, QC, eventually settling in the Glebe neighbourhood of Ottawa. WYLIE, M. Eileen After a brief illness, in hospital in Perth on Thursday, March 1st, 2007, Eileen (Paul) Wylie in her 85th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband George Wylie, her parents Raymond and Minnie Paul, brother Elmer Paul and sister Verna Pope. Eileen will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her children David Wylie (Elizabeth Cosgrove), Mary Beth Wylie (Jim Sweeney), JoAnne Phillips (Don Ozga) and Mike Wylie. Eileen will always be special in the hearts of her grandchildren Chris Wylie, Tracy Klien, Laurie and Andrew Nicholson, Michael and Lisa Phillips, Conor and Aleia Wylie and her great grandchildren Miranda, Matthew and Riley. She will be greatly missed by her brother Brien Paul and sisters-in-law Marion and Dorothy Paul. Eileen was born and raised on the family farm on the 2nd concession of Dalhousie. She attended Teachers' College and during her teaching career taught in Almonte, Appleton, Carleton Place and in schools under the Ottawa Board of Education. Following retirement from teaching, Eileen became a buyer with Sperry-Honeywell. Eileen married her dearest friend, George Wylie on September 7th, 1946. They raised their family in Almonte and eventually retired to their cottage near Wendover, Ontario. They enjoyed a number of winters at their residence in Florida. Eileen has resided in Perth, Ontario for the last decade. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, the WMS and was a volunteer at Lanark Lodge. She enjoyed a variety of interests including writing, playing piano, quilting and gardening. Her sweet nature and her wit and wisdom will be greatly missed by her many friends and family. Christel Winnifred McKinnon died March 3, 2007 at the Temiskaming Lodge. She was born in Pembroke on August 19, 1910 to Sarah Malone and Joel Wilson. Her family moved to this area in 1918. Educated in North Cobalt, she married Daniel McKinnon in 1941. Mrs. McKinnon moved to Virginiatown in 1943, returning to Haileybury in 1952. Mrs. McKinnon worked 15 years with Northern Telephone — 10 years in Cobalt and five in Haileybury. She spent 17 years with Wilson Pharmacy in New Liskeard and later operated her own women’s clothing store in Haileybury. Aunt Chris, as she was known by many, worked as a teen in a tailor’s shop. She had an eye for patterns and colours and also loved gardens and flowers. Having lived through the Depression years, she was thrifty and prudent and possessed a keen mind. Her assorted skills came together in later years when she operated her own women’s clothing shop. A member of the Catholic Women’s League, Mrs. McKinnon was independent and resourceful and lived alone into her nineties. After her retirement she continued in her strong role as Aunt Chris and also helped various groups with secretarial and bookkeeping duties. Mrs. McKinnon was much loved and respected by 13 grandnephews and grandnieces, 33 great-grandnieces and -grandnephews, and two great-great-grandnephews. Mrs. McKinnon was predeceased by her husband in Haileybury in 1975; brothers Victor in 1941 and Irwin in 1961; nephews Stan in 1942 and Leonard in 2001. She is survived by her nephew Dalton Wilson of New Liskeard; niece Fay Eckmier of Los Angeles; grandnieces and grandnephews Trudi Armstrong, John, Jim and Michael Wilson, Stan Wilson, Jennifer Kosowan, Marlene Bush, Karen Toffanello, Shirley Roblin, Cathy Hopper, John, Jamie and Tom Eckmier; 33 great-grandnieces and -grandnephews; and two great-great-grandnephews. The funeral was arranged by Perrin Funeral Chapel in New Liskeard with the service conducted by Father John Lemire. Burial will be at the Haileybury Holy Cross Cemetery.

Doris Summers, 88 ELGIN -- Doris May Summers, 88, of RR 2, Elgin, died February 16 at Kingston General Hospital after an illness. She was born March 15, 1918 in Portland to Rose and Harry Claxton and grew up in Delta. She married Hubert Summers on February 24, 1939 in Delta and became a homemaker, living most of her life in Elgin. She was a member of the Elgin Lioness Club, the Elgin Friendship Club and the Rebekah lodge. She also belonged to Elgin United Church and its United Church Women group. Mrs. Summers is survived by her husband Hubert at RR 2, Elgin, and four children, Gerald, Doug, Lila and Arnold, all of Elgin, as well as nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother Gerald Claxton of London, Ont., and sister Millie Woods of Brockville. She was predeceased by her brothers Albert, Tommy and Paul Claxton and sisters Olive Sloan and Yvonne Gard, as well as a great-grandson, Lucas Serson. Friends called at the Scotland Funeral Home, Elgin, on February 19 and a special service was held by the Lioness and Lions Club of Elgin. Her funeral was held in Elgin on February 20, with Rev. Harry Seeley (retired United Church minister) and Rodney Smith-Merkley officiating. Burial is at Halladay Cemetery. The pallbearers were Jim and Eugene Summers, Bob and Robert Welch, Jason Melo and Michael Gordanier. Honorary pallbearers were Tyler Gordanier, Allan Welch and Josh Serson. HERMAN, Bruce Kendall “BK” - 57, Bridgewater, died March 3, 2007 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born August 21, 1949 in Bridgewater, he was a son of Eldon and Greta (Hirtle) Herman, Italy Cross. He was a retired veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy having worked for twenty-three years, serving with NATO overseas. He previously lived in Ontario for over twenty years, having moved back to Nova Scotia five years ago with his family, to enjoy his love of hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater. Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jeanette (Bourgeois) Herman; son, Kyle, Bridgewater; brothers, Wayne (Marilyn), Bridgewater; Blaine (Chriss), Italy Cross; sisters, Sandra (Melvin) Himmelman, LaHave; Dale (Kim Butcher), Halifax. GAGNÉ, Dr Yvan Dans la nuit du 18 au 19 février dernier, en vacances, dans la ville de Tumbes dans le Nord du Pérou, est décédé à l'âge de 53 ans, Docteur Yvan Gagné, médecin vétérinaire à l'Agence canadienne d'inspection des aliments et anciennement médecin vétérinaire praticien dans la région de Montréal et au Saguenay.
