FLOWER, DONALD E.- The death of Donald Elmor Flower of 140 Dresden Avenue, Saint John, husband of Irene Mary (Moore) Flower, occurred on Sunday, November 20, 2005 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Springfield, NB, he was the son of the late Elmor and Etta (Sprague) Flower. Mr. Flower was employed at Rothesay Paper for 21 years before his retirement and was an avid Harness Racing fan. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lorne Flower (Mary) of Rothesay and Wayne Flower (Jean Ann Fox) of Saint John, two sisters, Mildred Flower of Springfield, NB and Marion Belding of Chance Harbour, four grandchildren, Ross, Scott, Lisa and Krista, one niece and two nephews. Muriel E. Alward Muriel E. Alward, 82, of ProTem Health Services, Moncton, and formerly of Riverview and Salisbury, passed away at her residence on Friday, November 18, 2005. Born in Plaster Rock, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Sarah (Armstrong) Brown. Muriel was a retired Registered Nurse, graduate of the Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton, school of nursing, member of the Moncton Wesleyan Church and was formerly involved in the Lay Pastor Ministry. Muriel will be sadly missed by her daughter, Linda Hawbolt (Ross), Moncton; son, Blaine (Gloria), Ottawa, ON; special granddaughter, Sarah; sisters, Catherine Feero, St. Andrews: Ruth Jones (Don), Salisbury; brother, James Brown, Pincher Creek, AB; several nieces and nephews. MACDONALD, MARGARET E.- The death of Margaret Elizabeth Macdonald occurred peacefully at Rocmaura Nursing Home on Saturday, November 19, 2005. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, daughter of the late Alexander and Mabel (Slade) Macdonald. Margaret left the Prairies at the age of 11 and moved together with her father and sisters to Grand Bay. She worked much of her life with the Canadian Pacific Railway. She was a lifelong member of St. Giles United Church. Predeceased by her parents, her twin sister, Helen, her sister Flora and brother-in-law Howard Silliker. Dr. Alexander "Lex" Kerr Roy August 11, 1919 - November 18, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Sands Funeral Chapel (Duncan) In his 87th year on Friday, November 18, 2005 at Cowichan District Hospital, Duncan, BC. Born in Port Morien, Nova Scotia, Lex attended Dalhousie Medical School and then served with the RCN as a Surgeon Lieutenant after graduation in 1944. Following the war, Lex specialized in dermatology, training in Galveston, Texas and Toronto, Ontario. Lex then practiced in Regina, Saskatchewan for 28 years, moving to Duncan, British Columbia in 1979 where he practiced until his retirement in 1991. Lex is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Miriam (Groff) and his loving children Len (Cheryl) of Duncan and Janet (Leo) of Nanaimo. Lex was predeceased within the past 11 days by his beloved brothers Ken (Marchetta) of Ottawa and Wallace (Kay) of Oakville, Ontario. His remaining brother Doug (Jean) of Halifax, Nova Scotia remains a source of strength for the Roy family. Lex will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Heather (Mark) of Ottawa and Devon (Tara) of Spanaway, Washington, and was fortunate to have met his two great-grandchildren Alexander and Corbin over the past two years. The many Roy cousins across Canada have been brought together over the past two weeks by this unfortunate series of family deaths. Although Les lived in the west he always remained a Nova Scotian at heart and never tired of talking about his youth in Cape Breton. Lex loved to travel both within Canada and without and was never happier than when seated around an evening campfire with his family looking out over the ocean or up to a mountain vista. No service by request, the family will receive visitors on Wednesday, November 23, 2005 for 5-7 p.m. at Sands Funeral Chapel in the Arbor Reception Centre, 187 Trunk Road, Duncan, BC. Survived by his beloved wife Isabel (Holly) of Killaloe with who he had shared 50 wonderful years of marriage. Il laisse dans le deuil ses trois enfants: Nathalie (Alain Campeau), Eric (Lyne et les enfants), Daniel (Mélanie Robbins); ses quatre petits-enfants: Etienne, Maxime, Daphnée, Antoine. Prédécédé par son frère Claude et sa soeur Madeleine, il laisse également ses trois soeurs: Marie-Claire, Marie-Paule et Christine; son beau-père Polydor Bougie (feu Louise Lavoie), beaux-frères et belles-soeurs, neveux, nièces et de nombreux amis. Il n'y aura pas d'exposition. Les funérailles auront lieu mardi le 22 novembre 2005, à 14 heures, en l'église Immaculée-Conception, 72 Durocher, Lachute, suivies de l'incinération à St-Jérôme. PITTSFIELD -- Elizabeth J. Joubert, 62, of 8 Pleasant View Park, Rockland, a native of Pittsfield, died yesterday at home after a long battle with cancer. Born on Aug. 21, 1943, daughter of William A. and Elizabeth Kirk Hayes, she was a 1961 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. She also graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield in 1964 and from the University of Connecticut. A registered nurse, Mrs. Joubert was employed by Carney Hospital in Dorchester for 20 years. Before her job at the hospital, she worked at Berkshire Medical Center, Mercy Hospital, the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., and St. Ann's Hospital in Fall River. For the past three years, she had been a safety officer for Siena Construction Corp. in Cambridge. She served on the board of directors for the Massachusetts Nurses Association and was chairwoman of the Carney Hospital MNA bargaining unit for 11 years, treasurer of the Massachusetts Nurses Foundation and a member of the Susan Hayes Scholarship Committee at Woodward School. She founded the Carney Hospital Breast Cancer Support Group and was its facilitator for 10 years. She received the Excellence in Nursing Practice Award in 1994, the Labor Relations Award in 1998. She received the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Outstanding Outreach Educator Award in 1999 as well as beimg awarded the Image of the Professional Nurse Award in 2004. She enjoyed gardening and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She leaves four daughters, Jennifer R. Joubert, Tricia M. Joubert and Sharon E. Kelly, all of Weymouth, and Jessica L. Joubert of Rockland; three brothers, Charles L. Hayes of Atlanta, Patrick T. Hayes of Dennisport and Kevin F. Hayes of Hanover; three sisters, Margaret M. Campbell of Braintree, Helen M. Hayes of Pittsfield and Theresa A. Doyle of Rockland; three grandchildren, and her former husband, John R. Joubert. WAITE, WILFRED WALTER Wilfred Walter Waite passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side on Saturday, November 19, 2005 in the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, Fredericton at the age of 89. Born in Sherbrook PEI, on October 18, 1916 Wilfred was the son of the late Walter and Eva (Evans) Waite. Survived by his loving, devoted, compassionate wife, Mary (Stewart) Waite and their four children Walter (Kathleen), Marina (Dale) Hunter, Wilfred (Nancy) and John (Anne) all of Fredericton, seven grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Hunter, Jessica and Melissa Waite and Robert, Marianne and Anna Waite. He also survived by his brother Ralph Waite, Sherbrook, PEI and a very dear sister in law Liz Calhoun (William), Toronto, brother in laws Bill Stewart (Lestra), Newfoundland and Lewis Batty, Maryland MD. and a number of nieces and nephews and special cousins William (Ilean) Waite, Sherbrook PEI and Merideth (Bill) Chase. Wilfred was predeceased by his sisters Marian Waite, Marjorie Glenn Batty, Ruth Clark and brother Percy Waite. Wilfred had a very interesting life prior to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's 13 years ago. After serving in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Gander, Newfoundland, Wilfred married his soul mate Mary Stewart and they moved to Toronto where Wilfred worked in many types of employment excelling in all. His greatest passion was construction and he built beautiful homes on Princess Ann Manor in Toronto from 1950 to 1959. It was in Toronto where his four children were born and where he belonged to the United Church, various service groups including the Masons and Shriners, and was a Scout Leader. Wilfred's passion for building and his dream to own a motel, brought him to Fredericton in 1959 where he then built the Eden Rock Motel. Due to unfortunate circumstances Wilfred was forced to leave the Eden Rock and start the Skyline Motel. After hard years he decided on his own to follow his dream once more and purchased the land upon which to build the Fredericton Inn which started in 1975. It was with hard work at the age of 60 that Wilfred began once again to fulfill his dream. The Fredericton Inn was built in 7 stages and finally completed in 1991. The Fredericton Inn, through the support of Mary and their children, together with many loyal customers and dedicated staff, especially Becky McArthur, who he considered just like one of his family, enabled Wilfred to give back some of his success through donations to various voluntary organizations, the principle being the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital Foundation. Anyone who met Wilfred would remember him fondly for being a very kind, generous caring person who always put others first and who worked side by side with his employees. Although Wilfred loved his family and his motel dearly, he and Mary also had a great love for traveling. The five years prior to his diagnosis of Alzheimer's were their traveling years. Wilfred and Mary traveled across Canada to British Columbia, Hawaii, Bermuda, across the states to Florida, Europe, England, Scotland, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand and Australia. One of their favorite spots was Las Vegas even though Wilfred never gambled, he loved the bright lights. With the special aid of care givers Roy Way and Rusty Sullivan, the special assistance of Dr. Ruest and Dr. Feero, together with the guidance of the VON, Susan McCallum and the Extra- Mural, the support and love of his four children who he saw daily and the unconditional devoted care and love of his wife Mary, Wilfred was able to spend his final years with Mary at his home while he visited the Motel weekly. Special thanks to the nursing staff of 4 North West, DECH for their compassionate care. Wilfred will be remembered as a loving husband, a great father, a special grandfather, a welcoming father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to all who truly knew him Alzheimer's took a piece of Wilfred away from us slowly, but he was always with us in our hearts to the end. Although his words have been silent for some time, his special smile will be with us forever. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Leslie "Les" Thomas Sweetland November 26, 1914 - November 18, 2005 Les passed away peacefully on November 18, 2005, eight days short of his 91st birthday, at Deer Lodge Centre. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn (Meek) (1958), infant son David (1946), parents Harriet (1965) and Percy (1975), brother Percy (1991), and son-in-law Henry Cherpako (2001). He will be dearly missed by his children, Marilyn Cherpako of Penticton BC, Arlene McMurray (Don) of Calgary AB, Robert (Sylvia) of Rosser MB, Kenneth (Annemarie) of North Delta BC, Ron (Jean) of Kelowna BC, Don (Lynda) of Winnipeg MB, Ray (Mary) of Grand Forks ND, and Larry of Burnaby BC. He will also be missed by his sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren, his brother Stanley (Bess) and many relatives and friends. Born in Woodgreen, England in 1914, Les came to Canada when he was four months old. He grew up in the Warren area of Manitoba, later moving to Winnipeg where he met Evelyn. Les moved to Vancouver in 1936 to work for Hunter Foods; Evelyn followed and they were married there in December of that year. In 1942 they moved back to Winnipeg where Les was manager at Hunter Potato Chips which later became Federated Fine Foods (Irish Potato Chips). In 1953, Les acquired an acreage in Rosser where he also began mixed farming. He later worked 5 years at Archibald Brokerage as plant manager before retiring from the industry. He never really retired from farming. Les was a caring person who loved to work on his Rosser farm and in his vegetable garden. He is predeceased by a son, Joseph Berthiaume in 1990 and by sisters Evelyn Narrow and Judith Berthiaume. Mr. Berthiaume was a truck driver for Joseph Berthiaume & Sons, Inc. for 10 years, before retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Charlton Federated Church and a former member of the Charlton Historical Society, and was very active in the community. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Israel and Delores (Blais) Berthiaume and lived in Charlton for many years. Eugenia (Boyer) Benson, 82, of Frost Rd., Waterbury, died Wednesday evening, (November 16, 2005) at her home. She was the widow of William Benson. Mrs. Benson was born November 19, 1922 in Lewisburg, PA daughter of the ate Dr. Frank P. and Sarah (Edmunds) Boyer. She was a graduate an Valedictorian of Mifflinburg High School. She attended Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA where she was Phi Beta Kappa and later obtained her bachelor's degree in library science from Charter Oak College in New Britain. She had been employed as the head of the Art and Music Dept. at the Silas Bronson Library from 1961 until her retirement. She had the highest score on the first civil service exam in Waterbury for the Librarian 1 position. For many years she was active in the Literacy Volunteers of America, the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Friends of Silas Bronson Library and the United Methodist Church of Waterbury. She is survived by two sons, Dr. William Benson of Wynnewood, PA and his wife, Linda and Dr. Frank P. Benson of Dunwoody, GA and his wife, Eleanor; a daughter, Margaret DeLeo of Essex; four brothers, Spencer Boyer and Winston Boyer both of Mifflinburg, PA, Vincent Boyer of McAllisterville, PA and John Boyer of Mechanicsburg, PA; four grandchildren, Audrey and Claudia, Karen Fialkoff and her husband, Brian of Middletown and Elaine DeLeo of Atlanta; two great grandchildren, Spencer and Valerie. NEW BEDFORD -- Delia (Froment) LaFrance, 80, of New Bedford died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005, at Sacred Heart Home after a long illness. She was the wife of Evariste LaFrance. Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Noe and Herminie (Raymond) Froment. She was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She was a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Home until she retired. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne and St. Anthony Seniors. She volunteered at Sacred Heart Home and St. Anthony's bingo for many years. Mrs. LaFrance enjoyed helping everyone. Survivors include her widower; two sons, Paul LaFrance and his wife, Sherry, of California, and Rene LaFrance and his wife, Lillian, of Sandwich; three daughters, Suzanne Levesque and her husband, Robert, Janet DeMoranville and Vivian Bergeron, all of New Bedford; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Norbert LaFrance, Marc LaFrance and Theresa LaFrance, and the sister of the late Doris Bonneau. FT. MYERS, Fla. -- Peggy Lee Goudreau Papa, formerly of Colonie, died peacefully Monday, November 14, 2005 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born on November 6, 1938 in Albany, she was the only daughter of the late Catherine and Lawrence Goudreau. After graduating from Albany High School in 1956, she married her first love, John Papa, in 1957. She devoted all of her life to loving and raising her five children, Deborah Papa Bouchard (Terry), Laurie Papa McPadden (Jack), Sandy Papa Stiles (Jeff), Julia Papa Ely (Scott) and John Papa (Colleen). She also left behind 14 cherished grandchildren and was aunt to over 40 beloved nieces and nephews. The joy of her life was her family. As the center of the Papa family, she radiated happiness. This summer, she hosted a joyous family reunion that took place on Ft. Myers Beach with 29 family members including her special niece, Tracy Morehouse. This was her most loved place, where she enjoyed the West Coast sunset, dolphin watching and long talks with her family. Mesale, died in 1978. Betty is survived by her loving sons, Richard A. Mesale and his wife Marie of Grafton and Albert D. Mesale Jr. of Worcester; her three granddaughters, Michelle, Erin, and Kristen. Betty is also survived by two brothers, George Jalbert, of Florida, and Roger Jalbert, of Grafton; nephews and nieces. A brother, Francis Jalbert, and a sister, Rita Denzer, predeceased her. Elizabeth was born in Grafton, daughter of Edward and Helen (Crowe) Jalbert, and lived in Worcester most of her life. She was a graduate of Grafton High School, and attended New England School of Accounting. She was a Bookeeper for several Worcester area companies before she retired. Betty was along time member of St. Stephen’s Church, and a member of the former Grafton Hill American Legion Post, Women’s Auxiliary. Betty was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She was an avid bowler, and won several tournaments, she enjoyed bingo and knitting. Betty was an avid Red Sox fan. SOUTHBRIDGE— Beatrice R. (Sauvageau) Benoit Coldwell Fortin, age 86 formerly of Therese Ave. died Friday in Harrington Memorial Hospital. Her husband was the late George Fortin who died in 1984. She was previously married to Gerard A. Benoit and Raymond D. Coldwell. She is survived by her children: Gerard Benoit, Donald Benoit, Leo Benoit, Jacqueline Valle, Noella Silverberg, Patricia Ekstrom, Cecile Bernier, Donna Gilmore, Dorothy Starzec, Frances Zarider, Darlene Tetreault, and her stepchildren Arthur "AJ" Fortin, Nancy Munson and Donna Fortin, 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 9 step-grandchildren. Mrs. Fortin was born in Worcester Oct. 13, 1919, daughter of Edward and Bertha (Sauvageau) Brousseau, and graduated in 1936 from Commerce High School. She was a member of Notre Dame Church, Casaubon Senior Center, and the Royal Travelers. Mrs. Fortin retired in 1988 from the Town of Charlton as a clerk in the Tax Collector's Office. Estelle Elizabeth (Duckie) Breaux was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana on September 27, 1941 to the union of Vernia L. Marshall of San Francisco, California and the late Joseph Breaux. Estelle was raised in San Francisco where she attended school in the San Francisco Unified School District. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1959. She maintained a loving relationship, until her death, with high school friends Norma Fitzpatrick, Wanda Hutchinson and Vivian Williams. Estelle also attended San Francisco City College where she enrolled in several Drama courses. In 1961 Estelle married William Paschal who preceded her in death. No children were born from this union. For more than 38 years Duckie was employed by the United States Government at the San Francisco Presidio in the Commissary Division. She retired in 1999 as a butcher with the Commissary. While employed at the Presidio, Estelle befriended many people. Ever day God granted her the opportunity to nurture established friendships, develop new relationships and serve as an inspiration and a light to every relationship that continued until she departed this life. To her Heavenly Father she was a "Woman of Faith." Her favorite scripture was Psalm 118:24-"This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Estelle will also be remembered at Cornerstone Baptist Church for her generosity. Duckie was sometimes known as the In-House Photographer/Historian. Estelle would often take a set of pictures for her keeping and then send you your copy. As a vibrant, fun loving senior, Estelle saw a need for seniors (at the "Stone") to have fun. Through the encouragement of her Pastor, Kenneth Reece, Estelle established an Annual Senior Citizens Day. Estelle never viewed life as anything but another opportunity to Praise God, have fun and she believed everyone, including seniors, should live in the same manner. Estelle also loved gardening and believed that her church should never be without fresh flowers for Sunday morning services, therefore every Sunday there would be fresh flowers from her garden. Estelle Elizabeth (Duckie) Breaux will forever be remembered by her much-loved mother, Vernia L. Marshall of San Francisco. Also cherishing Estelle memories are her aunts: Mrs. Dorothy Wesson of San Mateo, California and Mrs. Miriam Armstrong of San Francisco, California; uncle: Mr. Moses Hamilton, Sr. of Oakland, California; aunts-in-law: Mrs. Arnette Hamilton (Godmother) of San Francisco, California, Mrs. Ludwilder Hamilton of Opelousas, Louisiana, Mrs. Leanna Hamilton of Oakland, California and Mrs. Mary Hamilton of Houston, Texas; uncle-in-law; Mr. Oliver Wesson, Sr. of San Mateo, California; her God-brother and cousin: Mr. Jerome Hamilton of Sacramento, California; a host of cousins who sometimes called Estelle "Mother Duck" and many loving and adoring friends. -- BREAUX, Estelle E. - Passed away November 14, 2005.
