Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, from 10:30 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18. Burial in Ponchatoula Cemetery. She is survived by three granddaughters, Rita Landry Perkins, Eva Novak and Anne Cabiness; two grandsons, Alex Landry and Buddy Hargrove; numerous loved and cherished Cabiness grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two great-grandsons, Brandon Perkins and Jamie Hargrove; numerous Dufreche stepchildren and stepgrandchildren, including Billy and Glenda Dufreche; and a special devoted stepgrandson, Thom Dufreche. Doreen Jean Purdy June 04, 1929 - February 14, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Leyden's Funeral Home (Calgary) It is with very great and personal sadness that we announce the passing of Doreen Purdy on Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice in Calgary, after a short and courageous fight with cancer. She was 75 years old and will be deeply missed by her son, Greg; daughter-in-law, Dianna; and grandson John. Doreen was predeceased by her husband, Robert and two children (Alana and Jay). She also leaves behind two brothers in British Columbia and will be also missed by many other family members, friends and all who knew her. Doreen was passionate about life and family and loved to travel. Married to an RCMP officer, she had lived in many cities and towns across Canada, from B.C. to Nova Scotia, and always considered Western Canada and B.C. in particular her home. She touched the lives and hearts of many people across the country over these years. A talented artist and homemaker, Doreen enjoyed drawing, quilting and needlepoint, and also became very familiar with the art of Japanese flower arranging. She was also an avid gardener and enjoyed reading about ancient archaeology. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at the Foothills Hospital and the loving nurses and volunteers at the Sarcee Hospice for their exceptional care of Doreen during this difficult period. Also, a very special thank you to Dr. David Falk for his kindness and compassionate heart towards Doreen and her family. Donald G. Denis, 66, resident of Humboldt, died Tuesday Feb. 15, 2005, at a local hospital following a long illness. He was born July 24, 1938, in the town of Humboldt, to the late Thomas and Agnes (DuBois) Denis. Don attended Water Division grade school and Luxemburg High School. Following high school Don ran the family farm. In 1987, he started employment at KI as a press operator and was employed there until his illness wouldn’t allow. Don enjoyed his Sunday drives and going out to eat. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.He is survived by three children, Stacy (Dan) Michiels, New Franken; Michelle (Dale) Delvoye, Suamico; McKenzie Denis and his fiancee, Sarah Postel, Humboldt; two grandchildren, Dustin and Alex Delvoye; his loyal dog, Sam; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Beatrice Van Pay, Humboldt; Donna Hermans, Luxemburg; Marcelle (Bob) Estel, Green Bay; one brother and sister-in-law, Elmer (Dee) Denis, Green Bay; nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by one brother Alvin; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Arleen (Harvey) Miller, Florence (George) Balza, Grace Denis, Dorothy Denis, Audrey Denis, Robert Van Pay, Larry Hermans.Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home and Crematory, 1630 E. HAMEL, Damon Roosevelt "Pops" - Died at home surrounded by his family Sunday, February 13, 2005 in Elk Grove, CA. After a year-long battle with Alzheimer's. Born in Holdenville, OK May 18, 1936. Survived by his loving mother, R. T Hamel, his children Orlinda Hamel, Dornell Hamel, Cornell Hamel, Carolyn Galloway, Sandra Hamet-Dailey; daughter-in-law Diane Hamel and his wife Linda Hamel of Brewton AL; also survived by his brothers, Lionel Hamel Jr., Dale Hamel, Clarence Hamel and sisters Betty Glass and Bobby Sue Milton. Preceded in death by his father Lionel Hamel Sr., brothers, Kenneth, Lynwood Thomas "Tommy" and Russell Hamel. His late wife of 26 years Dorothy Hamel and second wife Edna Cheetam-Hamel. He leaves 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Damon attended Sequoia High School in Redwood City. Graduated from San Jose State with a bachelor's degree in Sociology where he specialized in child development. He was hired on June 27, 1972, as a Juvenile Supervisor III, at the San Mateo County Probation Department's Juvenile Hall at Hillcrest. He served in this position for 20 years, retiring on March 31, 1992. Damon was a mentor, father figure, friend, and a wonderful role model to many of the young Juvenile Supervisor I, II & III's that started their careers in the Juvenile Hall. He was often called "Pops" by the staff and the hundreds of minors that were housed in the Juvenile Hall. Damon loved working with the minors and upon his retirement, he decided to return, and worked as an Extra Help Juvenile Supervisor from April 2, 1992 to September 11, 1993. Damon loved to travel throughout the US and coordinate family reunions. He will be greatly missed. Quiet hour will be held Thursday evening, February 17th from 5pm till 6pm at Jones Mortuary, 660 Donohue St., East Palo Alto. A memorial service in celebration of Damon's life will be held Friday, February 18, 2005 at 11am at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 134 Hemlock St., Redwood City, where his family has been a member for 55 years. Interment will be at Alta Mesa Cemetery in Palo Alto immediately following the service. LOUDONVILLE NY -- Florence E. Ross, 83, mother of John W. Ross. She died on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady. Florence was born on July 6, 1921 in Saratoga Springs to the late Floyd and Martha (McDonald) LaFountain. Florence was a home health aide for the Adirondack Home Care in Glens Falls. She was a deacon, secretary and youth group leader at the West Glens Falls Community Chapel. She was also a member of the VFW auxiliary and was a Girl Scout leader in 1942. In addition to her son, John and his wife, Patricia Ross of Loudonville, Florence is survived by her son, Phillip D. Ross of Colorado; her daughter, Cynthia L. Schaw of Mulberry, Fla.; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Oscar W. Ross and two daughters, Jo-Ann Mead and Sharon Mosley. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the West Glens Falls Fire House with a reception to follow. James W. Latiolais, 67, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2005, at Northshore Regional Medical Center, Slidell, of congestive heart failure. He was a native of Lawtell and a resident of St. Tammany Parish for 22 years, living in Mandeville. He was a disabled U.S. Army sergeant, having served in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a retired CEO of Riedell-Peterson Maritime Services. Survivors include his wife, Ann Latiolais of Mandeville; two sons, Jon Latiolais of Mandeville and Jock Latiolais of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Stacy Latiolais Roden and Kim Montalbano, both of Mandeville; a brother, Charles Ray Latiolais of Port Allen; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pierré and Bernice Moreau Latiolais; and a sister, Delores Boyette. Previously, she was a group leader at USCI-Bard in Billerica for 26 years.She enjoyed the companionship of her cat, "Pooh".In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Barbara Reed and her husband Jerry of Tecumseh, Mich., Jeanne Sauve and her husband James of Hubbard Lake, Mich., and Patricia Powers of Milford, N.H.; her nephews and nieces, Heath and Jeremy Goodwin, Jason, Marcy and Joel Powers, Danielle Goodell, Jerry Reed Jr., Nicole Griesel, and Peter and Matthew Vachon. Ann is survived by four sons Barry A. Beaulac of West Boylston, Garry A. Beaulac of Worcester Joseph J. Beaulac of Reston Virginia, and James J. Beaulac of Auburn. Three daughters, Sharon A. Bell of Sherman Oaks Calif., Margie M. Claflin of Worcester and Michele M. Cusson of Auburn; a sister, Shirley Tomolonius of Auburn, 16 grandchildren, five great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. A brother, Russell Quinn, and three sisters, Mary St George, Helen Torrey and Gert Fitzgerald predeceased her. Born in Worcester she was a daughter of Michael and Margaret (Russell) Quinn. She graduated from Commerce High School. Ann worked more than 18 years for the St Vincent Hospital before retiring. She loved to play bingo. The funeral will be held Saturday February 19th from the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME and CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester with a mass at 10:30 am in North American Martyrs Church, 8 Wyoma Dr. Auburn. SARASOTA, Fla. — Phyllis J. (Batchelder Gobbi) Masse, after battling with cancer for four years, quietly and gracefully left her body at the age of 69 on Feb. 13, 2005. She was blessed to be cared for by loved ones and Hospice, where she died peacefully in her daughter’s home in Sarasota, Fla. She leaves her family, daughter, Joni Masse; and son, Ralph Batchelder; brothers, Peter Masse and Richard Masse; and four grandchildren, Paul Batchelder Jr, Nicole Batchelder, Shannon Batchelder, and David Gillis; and friends now, with the wish they love one another with the same spirit she loved them.She lived her life fully as a child and young adult in Farmington, N.H., where she married Ralph Batchelder Jr. Together they raised three children, one of which Paul, who was murdered six years ago, she will now be joining.She relocated about eight years ago to Northport, Fla., where she continued to give of herself to her loved ones and the community with her work of service. The last few years, though facing the possibility of her own death and coping with the various treatments and surgery, she continued to serve as a volunteer as well as an employee at the Senior Friendship Center in Venice, Fla. She clearly lived as she believed — to live until you die, and it was only in September of 2004 that she was faced with the necessity to retire due to the disease progressing. After leaving the work force, she carried on in the spirit of service and love, with all she did and with everyone who remained in her life. It was only a week before she died she was still enjoying life by going out in a wheelchair, accompanied by her daughter and friend on a walk through the park, oxygen at her side. She got out of bed each and every morning with the spirit of life, and it was only four days prior to her death did she accept that she needed to be in bed. Her final gift to those she loved most dearly was to accept the love and care they so beautifully bestowed upon her in order to make her transition as smooth and as graceful as could be, and she was surrounded by loved ones from that time on, to care for her and to love her until her spirit released itself from her body on this past Sunday morning, with her daughter, grandson David and niece Patti at her side.She was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her, and she will be deeply missed. She had requested a day of visitation made possible at Jennings Funeral Home in Sarasota, Fla., today, Feb. 17, from 5-7 p.m. with a service following at 7 p.m., and a Mass on Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at San Pedro’s church in Northport, Fla. There also will be a funeral/memorial Mass on April 30 at 10 am at St. Peters Church on Central Street in Farmington, N.H. April 30 would have been Phyllis’ 70th birthday and she hopes that her family and friends in the New England area will join with her daugh-ter, Joni, to celebrate her life. ------ Phyllis J. Lorne Arthur Leech May 07, 1927 - February 13, 2005 Peacefully on Sunday February 13, 2005 Lorne Leech passed away at the age of 77 with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his son Derry in 1951 and his father Arthur in 1986.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean, his 4 children and their families: Karen Stewart-Paley (Ted, Marina, Gavin), Randy Leech (Darlene), Tannis Kotchon (John, Jared, Lindsey) and Jeffery Leech (Trish, Tyler, Kyle), his mother Jessie Leech and his sister Marlene Dickson (Fred, Kevin, Barry, Loreley). Lorne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on May 7, 1927. He attended Glenwood School and Glenlawn Collegiate. Upon completion of his schooling, Lorne entered the family business Lance Publishing Company Limited founded by his father Arthur. Always the industrialist, he worked on the presses during the day and drove a cab at night. One evening he picked up his future wife Jean Jeffery as a fare in his cab. Even though he made her pay the 65 cents for the cab ride they were married July 17, 1948. Lorne took over as President of Lance Publishing and Publisher of the Lance Paper in 1961. In 1963 he founded Lance Travel and in 1965 he built the Dakota Hotel. Lorne was still involved in the hotel business along with his son Randy until his passing. Lorne lived his whole life in St. Vital and couldn’t understand why you would live anywhere else. He was very active in the community throughout his life. Lorne was on city council for 15 years. He fought hard for a number of city initiatives such as the St. Vital/Ft.Garry Bridge (which precipitated the development of St. Vital Centre), South End Sewage Treatment Plant and Bishop Grandin Blvd. He was involved in the development of the Unicity Council concept, which is Winnipeg today. He chaired many Commissions including the Manitoba Lotteries Commission and the Winnipeg Police Commission. During his involvement with the Kinsmen Club he was instrumental in the building of the South Winnipeg YMCA and Chesterfield House Senior Citizens Residence. Lorne was a member of the Khartum Shriners. The activity he loved most as a Shriner was the Shrine Circus where he enjoyed selling monkeys on a stick to the kids and seeing their joy. Lorne was a Past President and Honourary Life member of the St. Vital Curling Club. In his curling prime he was runner up in the 69th Annual Manitoba Curling Association (MCA) Bonspiel. Lorne loved the outdoors, spending time at the family cottage at Falcon Lake, on the beach at their winter home in Florida or around the flowers in his back yard. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter, enjoying many adventurous trips to remote points. Lorne loved life, lived large and was always up for a good time. At the cottage there was plenty of activity as he taught the kids and their friends how to swim, ski, fish or just enjoy life. There are also many great memories of family get togethers, trips with friends/family or just sitting around having a conversation. The family wishes to extend thanks and gratitude to the staff at St.Boniface Hospital in the MICU and 8th floor Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion. As per Lorne’s wishes there will be a private family service. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest in the family plot at St.Vital Cemetery. Aldege W. Turgeon, 83, of Manchester died February 13, 2005 at the Laurel Center in Bedford following a lengthy illness. Mr. Turgeon was born on December 11, 1921 in Thetford Mines, Canada the son of the late Louis and Evelina (Vezina) Turgeon. He was a US Navy veteran who served in World War II on the USS Hutchinson. He was employed at a Portsmouth Navy Shipyard for 38 years. Aldege was a former commander at Jutras Post and lifelong member of Catholic War Veterans. He loved bass fishing, and playing pool and poker with friends and family.Family members include; his wife of 57 years, Jeannine (Petit) Turgeon; two sons, John Turgeon of Goffstown and Dennis Turgeon of Merrimack; three daughters, Constance E. Albert George BEAUMONT 83, a resident of the Port Orchard area for 10 years, previously of Seattle and raised in Brainerd, MN, died February 5, 2005. Albert was a Second Lieutenant in the Air Transport Command, flying troops during WWII. He was later employed as a Cost Estimator for Boeing Space Center for 30 years. An avid boater, Albert was a member of the Boeing Yacht Club and the Des Moines Yacht Club. Many will also remember him as a jazz pianist. Family members include his son Steven Beaumont of Port Orchard; daughter Nancy Lorber (John) of Bremerton; brother Hap Beaumont of AZ; grandchildren Jenesse Davis, Annique Beaumont, Adam Plueger & Heidi Plueger. His wife Shirley preceded him in death in 2003. No services will be held. At Al & Shirley's request, their ashes will be spread over Puget Sound at a private family ceremony. He was a self-employed businessman and developer. He served 16 years as a Lafourche Parish School Board member and original developer of Community Bank, Sugarland Subdivision and Sugarland Country Club. He was a member of the Raceland Lions Club, Knights of Columbus and Woodmen of the World. He began the first community garbage service on Lafourche. Born in Stanley, NB in 1916, she was the daughter of the late Fraser and Maggie (Best) Thorburn. Martha was a long time member of St. James Anglican Church, Loch Lomond Rd. She volunteered many years in the villa and spent her summers at the beloved family cottage in Cambridge Narrows, NB. As a devoted, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she most enjoyed spending her time with her family. Drouin, 83, originally of Lewiston, now of Coral Springs, Fla., passed away peacefully at Coral Springs University Hospice with his son and his "adopted" daughter at his side on Friday, Feb. 11.He was born in Somersworth, N.H., July 18, 1921, and was a graduate of Lewiston High School. He graduated from the Bentley College of Business.He was married to Mignonne Roy Drouin of Lewiston. He retired in 1989, having had several successful careers at General Electric, Lockheed-Martin, and the state of Florida.He is survived by his son, Douglas and his wife, Dianna Yowell, both of Coral Springs, Fla.; and his three sisters, Gertrude and her husband, Dominique Plourde, of Lewiston, Bernice LaChance of Connecticut, and Margarate Renaud of California.He was predeceased by his parents, George and Aurore Drouin; and by his loving wife, Mignonne Roy Drouin. He will be sadly missed by friends and family, but…especially, his son and daughter.

MacEACHERN (Morgan) Alice Margaret "Lal" Halifax and Ottawa, passed away February 15, 2005, in the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Site, QEII, with her family by her side. Born and raised in Parkes, Australia, she was a daughter of the late Elizabeth Toohey and George Morgan. Alice came to Canada in 1955 and lived in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax, following her husband and family in his careers in journalism and politics. She was a determined advocate of educational rights for persons with disabilities and was a main impetus in setting up the first preschool nursery in Ontario for children with developmental challenges, to ensure they were ready for regular school attendance when they reached age five. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, William "Bill"; daughters Catriona, Donna (late John Legge), Rebecca (Donna K.), all of Halifax; sons, Andrew, Halifax and Ross and daughter-in-law Diane, as well as much-loved grandchildren Connor and Maggie, in Brooklin, Ont.; sister, Nancy, Singleton, brother, Dennis, The Entrance, as well as a large extended family, all in Australia. She was predeceased by brothers, Edward and Anthony; sister, Molly. Cremation has taken place. Visitation on Friday, February 18 from 4-7 p.m. in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax.
