Leida Topley (née Daman) Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully, on Sunday, February 13, 2005, Leida passed away at Health Sciences Centre, at the age of 92. Mom was predeceased by her husband Jack Topley in 1982; her parents Marie and Jan Daman; sisters, Dene Mulder, Annie Keedian, Mary Doherty; brothers John and Bill Daman. Mom will lovingly be remembered by her daughters; Lynne-Marie Hamilton, Bonnie Stonyk (Brian) and grandchildren Colleen Hamilton (Derek Jones), Ian Hamilton, Michael Stonyk (Aline Frechette) and Nicole Stonyk (Austen Kelly); her twin sister Joanna Morton and her brother Chris Daman (Mollie). Prior to her marriage to Jack in 1939, Leida was employed at the T. Eaton Company. Throughout the years Mom was actively involved in her community and charitable work. Leida co-chaired the inception of the United Way in Winnipeg; and served in various positions on school associations, E.K. Ladies Kiwanis and was an active Liberal party worker. Family, friends and neighbors were always warmly welcomed and enjoyed visiting Mom and Dad's home and the family cottage at Betula Lake. Mom had a great love for children and took delight in her own grandchildren. A celebration of Mom's life will be held on Friday, February 18, 2005 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Olive Chorney (née Stutski) Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home On Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 89, Olive Chorney passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Olive was predeceased by her husband Nicholas in 1970; sister Eileen; and brothers Ed, Tony, Bill and Lloyd. She is survived by her children and grandchildren, Bob and Marion (Caralee, Glenn, Nikol), Bev (Taryn, Shaylyn, Brenden); sisters Gladys, Jean; brothers Sam, Frank, Dave; and numerous nieces and nephews. Olive was born in Arness, MB in 1915 and married Nick in 1942. They lived for a short period in Mackenzie Lake, ON then moved back to Winnipeg. They bought land in Kirkfield Park, where they raised their family and farmed for many years. Olive also worked at Sears Polo Park for several years before retiring in June 1980. In her retirement years, Olive loved bowling, doing crafts, crocheting, looking after her flowers and traveling. Olive will always be remembered as a hard working, generous, kind person whose love for her family was far-reaching and selfless. A big thank you to all the staff at the Grace Hospital for the kindness and caring showed to Olive in making her final days as comfortable as possible. A celebration of Olive's life will be held on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow with Glenn Chorney, Brenden Montgomery, Greg Stutsky, Jim Signatovich, Johnny Stutsky and Alan Stutsky serving as pallbearers. Loving mother to Michael (Kathy) Dunn of Kincardine, Frances (Paul) Caron of Orleans, Pat (Marsha) Dunn of Lindsay and Liam Dunn (Serge Dion) of Ottawa. Dear grandmother to David Caron, Kimberly Dunn, Stephanie Caron, Sean Dunn, Damian Dunn, Michelle Caron, Eamonn Dunn, Raymond Caron, Dianna Dunn, Malinda Caron and Madeleine Caron. Great-grandmother to Cody Dunn, Desmond Dunn, Nathan deVos-Dunn, Connor Dunn, Samuel Dunn and Abaigeal Dunn. Predeceased by eight brothers and sisters. Betty was born in Ireland, nursed in England, where she and Stan met and married. As a war bride, she came to Canada in 1943 with two young children where Stan later joined her and they both made a home for themselves in Canada. Betty will always be remembered for her sense of humour and her stories. DENNIS McDOUGALL Dennis Lloyd McDougall, 61, of Morson, Ont., passed away Friday, Feb. 11, 2005 at the Rainy River Hospital in Rainy River, Ont. Dennis was born Oct. 20, 1943 in Elmhurst, Ill. to the late Lloyd and Marion (Englund) McDougall. Dennis grew up in Chicago, Ill., where he built fond memories in Scouting, the love of his family, his grandparents, and aunts and uncles, youth activities at Faith Lutheran where he was a member, and playing football at Taft High School., After graduation from Taft in 1962, he attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. on a football scholarship. He married his campus sweetheart, Jerri Ellen Trout of Garwin, Iowa, on Aug. 21, 1965. After Dennis received his degree in business and economics in 1966, the couple moved to Chicago, where Dennis worked for three years as an underwriter at CNA Insurance. In 1969, Dennis and Jerri, and Dennis’ parents, purchased Grassy Narrows Camp in Miles Bay on Lake of the Woods. For quite a few years, they lived in Canada during the tourist season and then worked at various jobs in Chicago during the winter months. In 1979, when their son, David, was ready to start school, the three immigrated to Canada and made Morson their home. They sold Grassy Narrows Camp in 1988, then built Pier North in Morson, which they have operated since its opening in 1990. Dennis showed his love and loyalty to his new home through his industry. He became a naturalized citizen of Canada, was elected to the Morson council twice, first in 1985 as a councillor, then as reeve of the township the following term. He has been a director and president of the North Western Ontario Tourism Association (NWOTA) and served on numerous NWOTA committees. He felt truly honoured to be the regular emcee for NWOTA’s annual fall meeting banquets. During his 25 years in Canada, Dennis has been president of the Rainy River Lions Club, a founding member of the Morson Community Improvement Organization, and president of Rainy River minor hockey. He also worked as a supply teacher at Riverview Elementary and Rainy River High Schools in Rainy River. During the past several years, Dennis’ civic energy has been focused on the Morson Hall committee. As a member, he helped operate weekly Bingos to raise money to renovate the Morson Hall. Then he spearheaded the renovations by bringing volunteers together, ordering materials, inspiring the volunteers, and planning the work schedule. Only about a week of work was left when Dennis passed away. We are disappointed he was unable to see the completion of what was, for him, a true labour of love. Dennis would tell those of you who have shared his enthusiasm and picked up the project where he left off, “Thank you.” Dennis loved carpentry projects. He guided the Grassy Narrows Camp staff through the building of a new lodge and renovations to all of the cabins. He did much of the construction of Pier North, as well. He was an avid reader, loved NFL football, tried his hand at curling, and loved to travel. Most of all, Dennis loved people and reveled in the company of his family and friends, never missing a chance to share memories and tell jokes. He was a devoted husband, a loving dad, and a loyal friend. Others will do his work now, but no one can take his place. Dennis is sadly missed by his wife and soulmate of 39 years, Jerri McDougall of Morson; son, David and wife, Cynthia (Cindi), McDougall of Baudette, Mn.; sister, Dianne (Dennis) Vanlaningham of Manitouwoc, Wis.; brother, Douglas (Kitty) McDougall of Chicago, Ill.; stepmom, Katie Pentney (McDougall) of Rainy River, Ont.; and sister-in-law, Rebecca McDaniel of Marshalltown, Iowa. Also surviving are Uncle Irvin (Wink) and Aunt Shirley (nee Englund) McDougall of Mendota, Ill.; Uncle Jim (Bertha) McDougall of Denver, Col.; nieces, Yvonne (Kenny Green) Zimmerman of North Carolina and Erin (Ed) Obermueller of New Jersey; and nephews, Shane (Aya) McDougall of Chicago, Nathan McDougall of Chicago; and Erik (Evelyne) Vanlaningham of South Carolina. A memorial service to celebrate Dennis’ life will be held Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Morson Hall. Judith Ileen Hill March 10, 1943 - November 08, 2004 Funeral arrangements by Chapel Lawn Funeral Home Peacefully on Monday, November 8, surrounded by her family, Judith Hill passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer at the Grace Hospice. She was predeceased by her daughter Leigh in 1997. Judith is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Daryl; children Cheryl (Mark) Wold, Keri (Jason) Bennett; grandchildren Stephanie, Andrew and Ethan; brother Don (Heather) McLaren; sisters Joan McLaren and Pat (Doug) Bassett; also many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Judith was born in Dauphin, MB and moved to Winnipeg as a young woman, where she met and married Daryl and started a family. Later Judy worked for the Department of Education. After retiring, she volunteered at the Women’s Pavilion with their pre and postnatal classes. She had many interests, including travel and her winter home in Mesa, Arizona, quilting with the “Dubliners’ Quilters”, keeping fit, and of course her dog Oliver. Judy was generous and kind, always putting her family first. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospice who provided great loving support and care to Judy and her family. Mr. Paul Albert Kuprat November 18, 1914 - February 09, 2005 Funeral arrangements by Richmond Funeral Home Paul passed away suddenly on February 9, 2005 at his home in Richmond. He will be loved forever by Gertrud, his wife of 44 years, and his son Andrew. Paul was born on November 18, 1914 on board a boat in Cranzbeek, East Prussia, Germany. He became a ship's engineer and made many sea voyages of which he would often speak of with pride. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and worked several years in northern BC as a powerplant operator. He moved to Vancouver and worked until retirement as a stationary engineer for the Canadian National Railway. His retirement was happily spent at home relaxing and gardening with his wife. She was born in Moosehorn, MB on October 6, 1915 and came to Winnipeg in her early twenties and made it her home. BARNA, Dr. Bohdan "Bugs" Son of the late John and Anna Barna, Leamington, passed away in Toronto, February 9, 2005 in his 81st year. Father of John, Victoria, B.C.; Dan and wife Yvonne, Ajax, ON; Bill, Oakville; Patti and husband Bob Witmeyer, Oakville; Leslie and husband Kevin Gould, Keswick, ON. Grandfather of Daniel, Thomas, James, Kaitlyn, Jaime, Jordyn, Michael and Steven. Also survived by brother Eugene and wife Marie, Leamington. Best friend of Arlene, Bradford, ON. Many nieces and nephews as well as relatives in the United States, Poland and Ukraine. Cremation has taken place with a private family memorial service to be held at a later date. Bohdan was active as a youth and Leader in 2nd Leamington Scouting and served with the Royal Canadian Navy as Sick Bay Attendant on the H.M.C.S. Buckingham during WW II. CLANCY, Fr. Rian , C.P. 1924 - 2005 Father Rian Clancy, a Passionist priest, died at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2005, of heart failure. Born in Windsor, Ontario, he joined the Passionist Community in the United States in 1947. He was ordained on May 30, 1953. For 51 years, Father Rian preached actively in a variety of styles: parish missions, AA retreats, and Marriage Encounters. In recent years he served as hospital chaplain at Oak Park Hospital and Alexian Brothers Hospital in the Chicago area. He is survived by his sister-in-law, June, and several nieces and nephews. Father Rian requested no wake service and no flowers. The Funeral Mass was Tuesday, February 15, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 7211 West Talcott Avenue (at Harlem Avenue). Burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, Illinois. CLAPP HELEN (nee Atkinson) Promoted to Glory on February 14, 2005 at the age of 79 years. Predeceased by her husband Stubby Clapp Sr. (1971). Will be dearly missed by her children Delbert and Louise Clapp of Alberta, Ron and Sharon Clapp, Keith "Stub" and Candis Clapp, Dian and Walter Wollison all in the Windsor area. Also will be missed by her grandchildren: Amy Wollison, Tiger (Walter) Wollison, Sheri and Mike Lucier, Shannon Clapp, Shawn and Shannon Clapp, Marnie and Trevor Elliott, Janna Clapp, R.J. Clapp, Stubby and Chastity Clapp, Iris and Chris Barr, Jay Clapp, Kelly and Sharon Clapp, Terri and Phil Beauchamp and 15 great grandchildren. Also missed by her brothers and sisters: Ron and Kathy Atkinson, John and Joan Atkinson, Bernice (the other half of the snoop sisters) and her late husband Archie Clouthier, the late Glenn Atkinson, the late Bill and his late wife Mildred Atkinson, Del and his late wife Mary Johnson, Bev and Dorothy Major and his former wife the late Ilene Major.
