ALLAIRE, RHEAL 1916-2004 The family announces with great sorrow his death at the Timmins and District Hospital on Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the age of 88 years. Loving husband of Fernande (Nee Martin) and dear father of Murielle Jalbert (husband Gilles Periard) of Cornwall, Ontario. Grandfather of Nicole Séguin of Alfred, Ontario and great grandfather of Tanya Seguin of Limoges, Ontario. Dear brother of Emile Allaire of Québec, Marie Domaigne of Cobalt and Alexina Domaigne of New Liskeard. Loving uncle of Marie-Ange Vaillancourt (Derrick Dent) of Kapuskasing, Thérèse Portugie (Ed) and Aurore Vaillancourt (Steve Davies) all of Fort McMurray as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Rhéal was born on June 12, 1916 in South Porcupine and has lived in the Porcupine area most of his life. He was a member of the C.N.I.B. (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) as well as its bowling team and he had a passion for playing cards on a daily basis. Rhéal worked with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications for 23 years time. He was also a World War II Veteran who served overseas in Holland, England and France. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 in the CHAPEL of the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Fr. Maurice Magnan officiating. Interment will follow at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Remembrance donations to the C.N.I.B. (Canadian National Institute for the Blind) would be greatly appreciated. MILNE, BETTY JEAN (Nee Noxel) January 4, 1934 - December 30, 2004 What is a home without a mother? All things this world may send But When I lost my mother. I lost my dearest friend. It is with heavy hearts as we announce that our family circle has been broken with the passing of our dear mother Betty- Jean on December 30, 2004 at 70 years of age after a heroic battle with cancer. Betty leaves behind her loving family: Son Dennis Wigle (Cheryl), and daughters Sharon Major (Nick), Sheryle Wigle (Calvin), and Denise Wigle (David). Betty was a proud grandmother to Jason, Shara, David, Alex, Stephanie, Maxim and Kendall. Awaiting her arrival in the after life is her predeceased son Daniel Victor (2002) and infant grandaughter Piper Gail (2001/ Twin sister to Kendall) . Born in Welland Ontario, Betty moved to Windsor in 1953. She is the youngest of 13 children and survived by sisters Marie, Marguerite, May and brothers Louis and Harold. GEOFFROY, Hector (ptre) (1908 - 2004) Au Centre d'accueil St-Eusèbe, le 31 décembre 2004, à l'âge de 96 ans, est décédé l'abbé J.-Hector Geoffroy, ptre. Né à Sainte-Élisabeth, le 2 juillet 1908, il était le fils de Auguste Geoffroy, cultivateur, et de Félixina Poulette. Après ses études classiques au Séminaire de Joliette, 1923-30, et Théologiques au Grand-Séminaire de Montréal, 1930-34, il fut ordonné prêtre en la cathédrale de Joliette par Mgr Joseph-Arthur Papineau. De retour au Séminaire de Joliette en septembre 1934, il y fut professeur jusqu'en 1963, tout en étant confesseur et directeur spirituel de 1943 à 1963, et responsable de la Chapelle Notre-Dame, du Lac Noir, St-Jean-de-Matha de 1952-63. Il fut étudiant en pédagogie à l'École-Normale-Secondaire de l'université de Montréal, 1941-42. En quittant le séminaire de Joliette en juin 1963, il devint curé à Notre-Dame-de-la-Merci; en mars 1965, curé à Ste-Émilie-de-l'Énergie et en mai 1968, curé à St-Félix de Valois jusqu'en septembre 1978. C'est alors qu'il devint chapelain à l'Abbaye Notre-Dame-De-La-Paix des moniales bénédictines, à Joliette. Retiré à l'évêché de Joliette en novembre 1986, tout en continuant à rendre service aux moniales bénédictines sur semaine jusqu'en 1990. Aussi ministère dominical à la Chapelle Notre-Dame de Pontmain, Lac Noir, St-Damien, de 1987 à 1994. M. Geoffroy s'est beaucoup intéressé à l'histoire de sa paroisse natale, aussi de celle de Notre-Dame de Lourdes et beaucoup à celle de Ste-Émilie de L'Énergie, aussi de sa famille, dont il laisse à la Société d'histoire de Joliette-De Lanaudière, dont il était archiviste 1982 à 1994, une abondante documentation : manuscrits, contrats et photographies. Le défunt laisse dans le deuil outre Mgr Gilles Lussier et les membres de son presbytérium, son frère Rolland (Madeleine Gervais), Gabrielle (Feu Rolland Latour), Madeleine (feu Ronaldo St-Georges), et Yvette (Jean-Baptiste Forget) et de nombreux neveux et nièces. Le défunt sera exposé à la résidence funéraire :Omer Landreville et fils inc. 674 rue St-Louis, Joliette. Le mardi 4 janvier 2005 de 19h à 22h et mercredi en chapelle ardente en la cathédrale de Joliette à compter de 9h30. les funérailles seront célébrées mercredi à 10h30 en la Cathédrale de Joliette. ANDREWS, Albert Cole "Andy" Quietly on Friday, December 31, 2004 at the age of 83 years. Husband of Jean Markell. Father of David (Beth Gordon) and Laurie (Rick Campbell). Cherished Grandfather of Erin, Owen, Bradley, Jamie and Julie. Born in 1921 in Haileybury, Ontario. Joined the RCAF and taught airframe mechanics in St. Thomas, Ontario. Later went aircrew serving as a Navigator with Ferry Command. At the end of WWII he and Mom opened the Andrews Art Shoppe in Ottawa. Andy joined Newton Photographic in the early fifties and spent many years providing news photographs for the Ottawa Citizen. He won numerous awards for his photographs. He later started Andrews Hunt Photography with Stan Hunt and latterly with Greg Newton owned and operated Andrews Newton Photography. Most of his negatives are now with the City of Ottawa Archives. Andy was known for his generosity, fanciful birdhouses and robust gardens. He will be dearly missed. Cremation. Friends may pay respects at the Kelly Funeral Home, 585 Somerset Street (Centretown) Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. A Service in Memory of Andy will take place Friday in the Chapel at 1 p.m. In memoriam donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer Society appreciated. McGLOIN, George William Wratten - At home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday January 1, 2005 at the age of 59 years. Dear husband and best friend of Augusta (Auggie). Beloved father of his two sons Phillip and Robin and step-father of Sara and Amanda. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Robbie and Rebecca. Brother of Jean (George), Alice (Victor), Margaret (Allistair) and Betty (Rico). Sadly missed by Nonna, sister-in-law Nadia and her family, many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Predeceased by his mother Alice, son George, granddaughter Robin and sister Chrissie. George was a member of the Niagara Region Police Service for thirty-two years, serving many positions within the service achieving rank of Inspector. Throughout his career he also taught at the Ontario Police Academy and Niagara College, he was Chief of the Kosovo Police Force as part of a peace keeping mission and he was a founding member of the Children's Safety Village in Welland. He was a paratrooper in the Parachute Regiment with the T.A. in Britain. George was proud of his association with the Co-fraternity of St. James and the Little Company of Pilgrims. George graduated as a Marine Engineer from Paisley College in Scotland and also received his Bachelors Degree from Brock University. George L. O'Dell George L. O'Dell, 85, of Moncton passed away at The Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital on Monday January 3, 2005. Born in Moncton son of the late Mark and Eva (Gauvin) O'Dell. George was a retired C.N.R. Section foreman (35 years service), attended St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church, member of the Moncton Legion #6, former executive member of the C.N.R. War Vets, member of the 31 Club and life member of the Air Force Veterans Club. He was a Veteran of World War 2, where he served with the 1st Canadian Division, 2nd Field Regiment, 8th Field Battery serving in England, Sicily, France, Belgium and he participated in the liberation of Holland. Gertrude "Gertie" Cormier SCOUDOUC, NB - Gertrude "Gertie" Cormier, 74, of Scoudouc passed away on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at the Dr. Georges-L. Dumont Hospital, Moncton. Born October 7, 1930 in Parsboro, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Peter Kendrick and the late Regina Blanchard. Gertie was a Veteran during the Korean War and a clerk typist and administrator with the Dept. of Supply and Services Depot #5 in Moncton from 1951 to 1953. She was employed with Lockwood in Scoudouc for 25 years prior to her retirement, and was a member of the Shediac Royal Canadian Legion Branch #33. She is survived by three daughters, Pauline Moris (Greg) of Edmonton, AB., Nancy Cormier of Dieppe, Carol-Ann Hébert (Junior) of Moncton; five sons, Gérald "Gerry" of Moncton, John (Sandy) and David of Scoudouc, Raymond (Donna) of Dorchester, Andrew "Andy" of Dieppe; two sisters, Vera and Mary; one brother, Jim; 19 grandchildren and one great grandchild. ARNOLD, ANNIE "ALFREDA" The death of Annie "Alfreda" Arnold of Fredericton occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Monday, January 3rd, 2005. Born in Marysville, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret (Kaine) Holland and wife of the late Harold C. Daley Sr. and Boyce B. Arnold. Alfreda was very proud of having worked at Canadian Cotton in Marysville from 1946 to its closing in 1952. She was also a member and a past president of the Marysville Legion Branch # 15. Alfreda was an avid bowler, card player and she was a devoted Toronto Blue Jays fan. The most important thing to Alfreda was her family, and she loved every one of them deeply. She was a great supporter of the MS Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society and Easter Seals. She is survived by her grandchildren, Joanie Allison (Colin) of Rusagonis, Todd Higgins (Margo) of Stanley, John Daley (Joan) of Fredericton and Jeanette Clowater (Evan) of Lakeville Corner; twelve grandchildren, Melissa, Ashley and Kyle Allison, Josh, Melissa and Jeffrey Smith, Natasha Higgins, Alex and Amanda Daley, Sheldon, Logan and Jonathan Clowater; one brother David Holland (Betty); one sister, Robena "Bouncie" Jones (Hazen) and two special nieces, Anna Higgins and Beccie Richard.
