Paisiblement, à l'Institut Canadien-Polonais, le 26 février 2002, à l'âge de 97 ans, est décédée Katarzyna Pajuk-Szanweber, épouse en premières noces de feu Roman Pajuk et en secondes noces de feu Leopold Szanweber. Elle laisse dans le deuil son fils George Pajuk (Blandina O'Sullivan), ses chers petits-enfants Michael, Kerry (Paul Johnston) et Brian ainsi que ses arrière-petites-filles Caitlin et Paisley. Hamula: Rodney Micheal John Hamula. Rodney was born in Edmonton on February 5, 1944 and died peacefully with his loving family by his side in the Drumheller hospital on February 9, 2002. He is survived by his wife Norma, children ; sons, Bryan (Sally) and Mike (Donette) and daughters; Kathy and Marcia (Dave) McDougald, grandchildren; Andrew Fleck, Jerad Sinclair, Robyn and Alex McDougald, sister Barbara (Murray) Abel, brothers Raymond (Bev) and Reggie (Hella) and Parents Willie and Anne Hamula, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Rodney was a master electrician and has worked as an electrician for numerous companies around Alberta, BC and NWT. He was transferred to Drumheller in July 1981 working as an area manager for an electrical firm. Then in 1983 decided to start his own oilfield electrical business. The business became incorporated March 3, 1983. Rod's wife Norma and son Michael have helped him to have a very prosperous business with numerous clientele. Rodney was quite spontaneous - 5:00 a.m. waking everybody up to say we are going to Banff for a swim. Rodney enjoyed traveling especially to Costa Rica, where he made a lot of very special friends. Rodney's grandchildren were the light of his life. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 15, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Anthony's Church. Prayer Service will be held Thursday, February 14th, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anthony's Church.

Dr. Ratimir Cvetanovic was a research scientist born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, May 19, 1913; son of the late Josif and Natalija (Urosevic). Beloved husband of Jean MacDonald. Loving father of Michael, Angela Lynch (Terry) and Nadine Gareau (Edward). Devoted grandfather of Conor, Brittany, Kiernan, Tyler, Alison, Maggie and Lauren. University degrees were converged on him in 1936 from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland; from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia in 1941; from the University of Toronto in 1950 and a Ph.D in 1950. He served in WWII as Reserve Lieut. in the Yugoslav Calvary army. Head, Kinetics, Photochemistry and Catalysis Section, Division of Chemistry, National Research Council 1952-78;-80; author of numerous scientific papers and articles in the field of Chemistry. In 1955 he was a Special Lecturer at the University of Toronto; in 1963 a Visiting Professor at Cornell University, N.Y., in 1964 a Visiting Professor, Dept. of Chemistry, University of California (Davis); in 1967 an Overseas Fellow, Churchill College, Cambridge, U.K. In 1979 a Distinguished lecturer at the University of California (Irvine). On 25 February, 2002, with her only daughter Julita and son-in-law Krzysztof (Kris) Pirozynski at her side, after a short struggle with cancer during which she never relinquished her innate courage, dignity and sense of humour. Born in Warsaw in 1918, she escaped to England in 1942 where she worked for the central command of the Polish Armed Forces in Exile during the war and for the welfare of its veterans for many years after. She was twice awarded the Gold Cross of Merit. During her fifteen years in Ottawa she was an enthusiastic and generous supporter of Opera Lyra Ottawa. A private funeral has been arranged in accordance with her wishes. Jones: Paulette Joyce Paulette was born in Edmonton on February 21, 1948 and passed away peacefully at the Drumheller Hospital on February 14, 2002. She is survived by her husband and best friend Morgan, her aunts: Stella Facette of Canmore, Helen Clarke of New Westminster, B.C., Elsie Fedora of Edmonton, Dora Pasemko of Canmore, Rose Towpich of St. Albert and uncle Bill Pasemko (Rose) of Canmore and special cousin Paulette Towpich of Medicine Hat along with numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents Andrew Yaremko in 1971 and Annie Yaremko in 1998, also by her uncles; Martin Pasemko, Pete Pasemko and Roy Pasemko. Paulette was educated in Drumheller and lived her early years in East Coulee returing back to the valley again in 1987. Married to Morgan in 1967, she worked in Calgary for Alberta Government Telephones and later for Western Union Insurance Co. and then with the Saan Stores. She loved and cared for many pets - most of whom were originally abandoned strays and was extremely proud of her little peek-a-poo "Sabrina". An avid gardener, Paulette also enjoyed the beauty of flowers in her yard, especially roses. Services were arranged by Personal Alternative Funeral Services and will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazerene with the Reverend Wayne McCracken officiating. This will be followed by a luncheon at the East Coulee Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

They were married in 1946 in the U.K. and immigrated to Canada in 1947. Gordon was a long time partner of KPMG Chartered Accountants. Born in Midland, Ontario, son of the late Charles and Rachel (Vanderburgh) Pilson. His greatest love in life was his late wife Schirley (Cohen) Pilson (December 3, 1991). Allan retired as bank manager of Bank of Nova Scotia, Chatham, after 43 years of service. He had been active throughout his life with the Boy Scouts and various charities including the Children's Aid Society. He was a member of St. Andrew's United Church, Chatham Granite Club and Maple City Golf Club. Allan was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Masonic Lodge. As a young man, Mr. Tomashevsky attended architectural college in Kyiv, Ukraine and continued his studies in Brussels and Madrid. He came to Ottawa in 1951 where he worked as an architect for the Ministry of Public Works and, following that, for 20 years with the Ministry of Transportation until his retirement. Among his many achievements, Mr. Tomashevsky was either the chief architect or one of the architects involved in the construction, renovation, or redesign of the following structures: a Roman Catholic seminary in Montreal; a high school in Hull; St. Vincent's Hospital, Ottawa; Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, Ottawa; Canada House, Ottawa; Rideau Hall, Ottawa; the airports in North Bay, Ontario, Sydney, Nova Scotia, Dorval, Quebec and Terrace, B.C.; and many other government buildings. For many years he was an active and devoted member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, the church he helped design. Ida Fischer, 89 Ida Fischer died in the presence of her family Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002 at St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville. She was in her 90th year. Her health had deteriorated suddenly in recent weeks. She was born in Kreibitz-Neudorfel, Bezirk Warnsdorf, Bohemia, Czechoslovakia Sept. 28, 1912 to Heinrich and Maria Wenzel (nee Heinrich). After working in the small family bakery during her school years, she moved to the town of Barringen near Karlsbad to work as a domestic. It was here she met and married her beloved Anton and together they endeavoured to establish a small glove manufacturing business and to raise a family. However, with the advent of Hitler's annexation of the Sudetenland, and the ominous threat of war, Mr. and Mrs. Fischer and their two small boys, Henry and Kurt, fled first to England and then to Canada. Mr. Fischer's political and ideological beliefs placed them all in grave danger if they had remained in Czechoslovakia. Within months of arriving in Prescott in 1939 the couple bought a farm near Crystal Rock, which remains the family homestead. It was here in 1943 that a third son, Garry, was born. Mrs. Fischer had become an accomplished glove sewer, and in her spare time, sewed gloves at home for the newly-established Louis Fischl Glove Co. in Prescott. She also was called in on numerous occasions to train local girls in both hand and machine sewing. Her skills in hand sewing of deer skin and fine kid gloves were without equal. After the war, her farm home became a temporary haven for many newly-arrived friends and relatives seeking a new life in Canada away from war-torn Europe. Her life centred around home, family and friends, but travel and social gatherings were also favourites. Her enduring patience and warm compassionate ways endeared her to all who knew her. Mrs. Fisher is survived by her three sons, Kurt (Una) of Nova Scotia, Henry (Gladys) of Crystal Rock, and Garry (Lorraine) of Ottawa. She was the cherished grandmother of Tara, Christopher, Karen (Jim), Connie, Stephen and Danny (Judy); great grandmother of Tawnya, Ryan, Leslie, Sherry, Wendy, Chris and Sheena. She is also survived by brother-in-law Joe Fischer (Lucille) of Montreal and sister-in-law Elisabeth Hofmann (Walter) of Prescott; Francisca Schraut, Marie Seehars and Emilie Fischer in Germany, as well as a number of nieces and nephews in Germany, Switzerland and the United States. Mrs. Fischer was predeceased by her husband Anton; sisters Frieda Lowe, Anna Kuttig, and by brothers Heinz and Hans Wenzel. At her request, there was no visitation or service at this time. Interment and a graveside memorial service will take place in the spring. Arrangements were entrusted to the Chris Slater Funeral Home, Prescott. Donations to the palliative care unit of St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, Brockville, will be gratefully acknowledged by the family.

Besides her husband John, she is survived by her children: Leny, Henk (Debbie), Mary Ann (Rick) and Carolyn (Jean Noel), and by her thirteen grandchildren and her family in Holland and Chilliwack, B.C. A private graveside service was held at Rideau Memorial Gardens. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Survived by a brother Ted Shelston of Huntington Beach, California. Predeceased by a brother Robert and a sister Molly Yull. Sadly missed by 11 grandchildren. Worked in the Elevator Trade for over 40 years After a long battle with Mesothelioma on Monday, February 25, 2002 at the age of 60. David is the loving husband of Gillian. Much loved and greatly missed by his children, Sandra (Steven Sauve) and David, and his first grandson Jacob David Sauve. Brother of Norma (Harold Moore), Helen LaRose, George and Bonnie (Dave Jackson) all of Ottawa and Grace (John Beaton) of Vancouver, B.C. He will be fondly remembered by his many friends.
