O'MEARA, May (nee Sharpe) Peacefully at the Hospice at May Court on Sunday, October 11th, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Wife of the late Frank J. O'Meara and mother of Philip, Edward, Patrick, and the late Brian. Grandmother of 7 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late George Sharpe and Oneita Short. Predeceased by two brothers, George and Richard. Special thanks to nieces Valerie Sharpe and Linda Maitland for their care over the years. CAY , Abundio "Andy" July 11, 1930 - October 8, 2009 Andy passed away in his sleep at the Foothills Hospital at the age of 79 years. Andy was born in Lobo, Batangas, Philippines. He was the eldest of nine children. Andy became a teacher upon graduating from the University of the Philippines. He was Head of the Math Department at Don Bosco - Mandaluyong before moving to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1971. Andy is already deeply missed by family: his wife of fifty years, Ligaya; sons: Arnie, Armando and Arthur; daughter: Arlene; granddaughters: Ashley and Chelsea; grandsons: Tyler and Elijah; son-in-law: Earl; daughters-in-law: Gina and Juliet. DAY , Dorothy "Vivian" Dorothy "Vivian" Day of Calgary passed away peacefully in Calgary on October 10, 2009 at the age of 70 years. Vivian was born in Calgary, Alberta and raised on a farm near Delburne, Alberta attending school at Belgrove and Red Deer. She was married to William George Day in 1959 and was a dedicated wife, mother and friend all her life. She enjoyed travelling and playing cards along with many crafts and cooking for her family. ROACH , Sylvia Yvonne January 31, 1939 - October 9, 2009 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our sister and aunt. Sylvia was predeceased by her brother Wayne Roach of Honeymoon Bay, BC, on September 2009 and survived by her brother Bruce Roach of Calgary. Sylvia also leaves behind nephews Dwayne (Roni Lee) Roach, Brandon and Jacqueline of Lake Cowichan, BC, Dale (Michele) Roach, Wes (Sheena) Roach of Calgary, Jason (Vanessa) Roach and Linkin of Port Hardy, BC. Sylvia was born in Victoria, BC, but moved to Banff, Alberta in the early 1950's where she worked in the hotel and hospitality industry. In the late 1970's she moved to Calgary and continued working in the hotel industry until joining the Provincial Government in the 1990's. Sylvia will be missed by all who knew her. Christina LeBlanc - C’est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Christina LeBlanc, le samedi 10 octobre 2009, à l’Hôpital de Moncton. Elle était l’épouse aimante de feu Alvery «Tipper» LeBlanc. Elle demeurait autrefois à Heritage Court et récemment au Manoir Notre-Dame à Moncton. Née le 19 mai 1925 à Moncton, elle était fille de feu Antoine Belliveau et de feu Anna Doiron et sa belle-mère feu Marie Doiron. Avant sa maladie, Christina a travaillé chez le fleuriste MacArthur’s Flower Shop à Moncton. Elle était membre du Club de l’âge d’or du Christ-Roi. Christina s’est consacrée à sa famille et à ses amis. Elle était une femme généreuse. Elle manquera beaucoup à ses deux filles: Annette LeBlanc-Dupuis (Bernard) et Simone Richard (Danny) de Dieppe; cinq fils: Paul (Sandra) de Dieppe, Bob «Tipper» (Francine), Charles et Dennis (Claire), tous de Moncton et Jacques (Anise) de Montréal, Qc; deux soeurs: Anne-Alice Richard (Edgar) de Moncton et Jeanne Belliveau (Roger Brodeur) de Grand-Barachois; trois frères: Henri Belliveau (Maria), Léopold Belliveau (Jeannine) et Albert Belliveau (Sheryl) de Moncton; 15 petits-enfants, deux arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que plusieurs nièces, neveux et amis. Jeanette (Bourque) Daigle, qui avait célébré ses 79 ans le 3 septembre, épouse d’Hermile Daigle, est décédée subitement à l’Hôpital régional d’Edmundston, le samedi 10 octobre 2009. Née à Haute-Aboujagane, elle était la fille de feu Arcade et de feu Éva (Drisdelle) Bourque. Elle laisse dans le deuil son époux, Hermile; ses fils: Maurice (Margaret) de Saint-Léonard, Marc (fiancée Nathalie) de Joliette, Qc et Marcel (Theresa) de Caribou, Maine; cinq petits-enfants: Denise, Philippe, Luc, Sébastien et André et trois arrière-petits-enfants; quatre soeurs et deux frères: Doris Léger-Hébert (feu Mélas) et Lorraine, toutes deux de Moncton, Gloria de Cocagne, Laurie (Carmel) de Dieppe, Rhéa de Shediac Cape et Georges (Béatrice) de Shédiac. Elle laisse aussi dans le deuil deux beaux-frères et leurs conjointes. Jeanette adorait ses enfants et leurs enfants et était toute dévouée à son mari. Après avoir fait ses études à Bouctouche et à Moncton, elle travailla à Monc-ton avant d’aller s’installer à Saint-Léonard où le Motel Daigle occupa une grande partie de ses énergies et de son temps à soutenir les entreprises qu’elle et son mari partageaient. Après leur dur labeur de l’été, Jeanette et Hermile trouvaient bon d’aller passer du temps à Hallandale en Floride afin de se reposer et de se réénergiser pour la prochaine saison touristique. Une fois les années de retraite arrivées, Jeanette et Hermile passèrent quelques années à Barachois avant de retourner s’installer définitivement à Saint-Léonard. La peinture que Jeanette avait toujours affectionnée devint son passe-temps favori. Elle appréciait aussi les parties de cartes du vendredi soir qui lui permettait de passer du temps spécial avec ses amis. La dépouille mortelle est exposée au Salon Guy O’Regan, 83, rue Saint-Antoine à Saint-Léonard (www.oregans.ca). CREBER, Steven After a valiant fight with cancer, Steven Ross Creber passed away in his 38th year on October 10th, 2009. His bigger than life presence was only matched by his strong character and big heart. He will be dearly missed by his wife Lara and sons Grayden, Lochlan and Knox. He was deeply loved by his parents Ross and Roberta and his sister Dawn and Dan (Colin and Erin), his in-laws Ivo, Josephine and Ivan and the many friends that he collected over the years. BEATRICE A. BROCKMEYER Bea, age 88, passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital on Friday, October 9th, 2009. David Joseph Lafond age 81, passed away on October 10th, 2009. David was born on Muskeg Lake Cree Nation on April 6, 1928 to August and Rose Lafond. Left to celebrate his life are his children, Lester Lafond, Joyce (Ken) Sutherland, K. Patrick (Iva) Lafond, Janet Lafond, Melody Lafond, Lois Lafond. Dave spent many hours on the farm with his grandchildren. They are Mitchell and Keegan Lafond, Patrick (Candie Eugenio), Stacy (Crissy) and Don Sutherland, Drew and Kalem Lafond, Barbara Venne, and his special great granddaughter Emma Sutherland. His brothers and sisters are Georgina Venne, Augustine Arcand, Stanley Lafond, Bertha (Robert) Desnomie, Rod Lafond, Bridget (Charles) Stevenson, Olive (Don) Publicover, Harry (Germaine) Lafond, Lionel (Karen) Lafond, Alex (Irene) Labliberte and sister-in-law Irene Venne. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marie Eva, his son Elvis, his brothers Albert and Theodore, his sister-in-law Alpha Lafond, his brothers-in-law Harry Venne, Emile Venne and J.T. Arcand. He will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Dave attended the St. Michael's Residential School at Duck Lake. When he was finished school he worked in Squamish, B.C. and Red Lake, Ontario. He then returned to Muskeg Lake Cree Nation in 1947 and began farming with his grandfather. In 1958 he began raising registered Aberdeen Angus and called his operation by the name of "Ferry Creek Farm". In 1998 he was recognized as the Honourary President of the Canadian Aberdeen Angus Association. The interest in cattle lead him to join the Crown Hill 4-H Beef Club in 1959 and with his family, was active with the club for many years. He continued farming until his last day. He served the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation as a band councillor and Acting Chief. Dave played hockey for the Aldina Pro-lites and the Blaine Lake Imperials. He participated in community activities with his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the "Shellbrook Hospital Fund". Wake service will be held at Muskeg Lake Hall on Wednesday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Marcelin on Thursday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Muskeg Lake Cemetery. Bernice (Bernie) Annie Talbot nee Williams passed away peacefully on October 12, 2009, at Rosetown Hospital, Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Bernie was born August 14, 1918 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by her husband, Richard (Dick) Talbot in 1975. Following Dick and Bernie's marriage in 1941, they farmed 1/2 mile west of Eston. Bernie owned and operated the Eston Variety Store with Dell Lockwood until 1961 when they moved to Calgary with their youngest daughter, Darlene. After Dick's death, Bernie continued to live in Calgary until 1991 when she moved to Saskatoon, SK. In 2002, she moved to the Sunshine Manor in Elrose, SK., to be near her daughter, Darlene Ellis. Bernie was always a great hostess and loved to bake and entertain. She was well known for her pies and butter tarts, a favourite with her grandchildren. She loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Ottawa, Coquitlam, Whistler, Bermuda, Europe and Australia. She will be sadly missed by her three daughters and their families: Shirley Ewen, husband, Glen, of Ottawa, their daughter, Nicky and husband, Jeff Ballingall of Surrey, BC; Colleen Talbot and husband Jim Allard of Coquitlam, BC and their two sons, Daniel Allard of Coquitlam, BC and Marty Allard of Victoria, BC; and Darlene Ellis of Elrose, SK and her two children, Sarah Ellis of Saskatoon, SK and Robert Ellis of Elrose, SK. A Memorial Service will be held at the Elrose Health Center on Wednesday October 14 at 2pm. DERMODY John Ford December 7, 1911 - October 8, 2009 Ford was born in Kipling Saskatchewan, the eldest child of eight. At 19 he was part owner of the General Store in, Antler Saskatchewan. Then moving on to future stores in Kisby, Saskatchewan, and Agassiz, B.C The young family moved to Cloverdale in 1950. Ford and Pearl ran the Cloverdale General Store and later Dermody Drygoods (formerly Curtis Drygoods) for many years. He was a founding member and manager of the Valley Curling Club for 18 years. After retirement he continued to organize the Seniors Bonspiel and enjoyed keeping in touch with "the old boys". They travelled to the Prairies every summer to visit family and long time friends. Ford is survived by his brother Fred, son Wayne (Diana), son Ken (June), daughter Donna (Ken) Bosman, Grandchildren Leighann, Kevin, Pamela, Darren, Elisabeth, Ryan and Craig. Great-grandchildren Dayna, Kylie, Andrew, Trevor, Nia, Cole, Tova, Seamus and Tristan. Ford and Pearl were wonderful parents and devoted grandparents. The children felt privileged to have had them in their lives. Ford is predeceased by his wife Pearl, grandson Brennan, brothers Allan, Lawrence, Neil, sisters Audry, Dorothy, Betty. Funeral Service will be held at Precious Blood Parish 17475, 59th Ave Cloverdale, on Friday, October 16 at 11:00 am. Interment following the service at Surrey Centre cemetery. CONKIE, Robert Oram Apr. 15, 1925 - Oct. 08, 2009 Born in Toronto, Ontario, April 15th, 1925. Passed away peacefully on October 8, 2009, at the age of 84. Beloved husband of Alma (Ewing) of 14 years. Beloved husband of the late June Janet (Bell) and the late Katherine (Marr). Loving father of Lynn Miller (California), Ted Conkie and his wife Mary (Nevada), Skip Marr (Philippines), Donnie Marr and wife Donna (Florida), and Tom Marr and wife JoAnn (Texas). Dear son of the late Ivy May and late John Oram McConkie, and dear brother of the late Dave and late Florence Conkie. Survived by his brother Wally and his wife Jodie Conkie (North Carolina). Sadly missed by grandchildren (Misty, Jennifer, John, Corey, Sheryl, Lisa, Colten, Travis, Jared, Amanda, Desar'e, Matt, and Ashley) and many great grandchildren. Special thanks to the wonderful staff of Leamington Memorial Hos-pital and Tilbury Manor. During the later part of the war, Robert served in the Canadian Army. He left Canada in 1956 and lived and worked in California till he retired to Oregon. Robert was past president of the Eagles in Oregon and held other positions with that orga-nization. He returned to Canada as a dual citizen in 1995. He was very active in the Legion including positions on the Executive.
