Ms. Chantal Remeny August 5, 1965 - March 22, 2009 - REMENY, Chantal (nee MALO) It is with sadness that we annouce the death of Chantal on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the age of 43, at home with her beloved dog Tucker. She will be greatly missed by her mother Margareth Gunn, stepfather William Gunn, her sister Lisa Malo and her nephews Shane and Kyle Fair. Her incredible courage in her long struggle with depression gave us hope that she would be truly well one day. She is now at peace. Mr. Donald Alexander Finney April 4, 1928 - March 24, 2009 - It is with heavy hearts our dear husband and loving father passed away at Hospice Village with his family at his side. Dearest husband of 50 years to Mary (nee Butler) and father of Karen and Lee Roder, Nancy Barrott, Morris and Elaine Thomson, Roy and Heather Thomson. Dearest papa to 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Dearest brother of Keith and Dorothy Finnie. Will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Don was retired from Bell Canada after 37 years. Don's great love of music, travel, golf and animals will live forever. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Don's life will be held on Friday, March 27, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Marcotte Funeral Home and Chapel, 12105 Tecumseh Road, Tecumseh (519-735-2830). Mr. Paul Joseph Shortall September 9, 1932 - March 25, 2009 - SHORTALL, Paul Joseph 76, of Halifax. It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our father on March 25, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a lovely man with a great sense of humor who enjoyed a good joke. In younger days, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies. He loved Newfoundland and Irish music and was wonderfully talented at the piano, accordion, and guitar. He enjoyed bantering with his sons-in-law about hockey and his favorite teams. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fairview Branch. He worked at Toledo Scales and Howe Richardson as a Mechanical Technician for more than 30 years. Born in St. John's, N.L., he was a son of the late John and Gertrude (Madden) Shortall. He is survived by his daughters, Linda (Kevin) Whalen, Roseanne (Ken) Anderson, Judy (William) Wensel; son, Paul; nine grandchildren, all of Halifax; brothers, Thomas, Patrick, Kevin, Leonard and their families, all of Newfoundland. He was predeceased by brothers, Bernard, Michael, Francis and twin brother, John. Mr. John O'Brien June 23, 1951 - March 25, 2009 - O'BRIEN, John 57, Halifax, passed away at home, Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Bernard O'Brien and Christine (McInnis) O'Brien. John was an avid fan of Connie Francis and Patsy Cline and often sang their hits at various venues. He was also quite a dancer in youth and enjoyed the mysteries of life. An avid reader of the paranormal, he particularly liked Bluenose Ghosts and would regale you with hair raising tales. John will be really missed by his family, friends and many neighbours who came to know him as a polite and wonderful person. In recent years his move to Glenda Crescent was described as one of the best places he had ever lived. His friends at Tim Horton's on Dutch Village Road will remember him as a person who loved life and enjoyed talking to people. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his stepmother, Clara (Graves) O'Brien and his brother, Gregory in infancy. Surviving are John's brothers, Bernard, Winnipeg; Jerome (Diane), Halifax; David (Karen), Langley, B.C.; several nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He is now wrapped in the arms of his loving parents. Visitation will be held today from 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. Mrs. Eleanor C. Finney April 18, 1922 - March 25, 2009 - Eleanor Catherine Finney passed away at The Moncton Hospital on Wednesday, March 25th, 2009 following a brief illness. Born in Moncton, April 18th, 1922 she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Lila (Langille) Johnston. During the Second World War she was employed with The Department of National Defense at Sydney, NS Naval Base and later joined the staff of J.B. Brennan Investment Co., Sydney, NS. She was active in the CWL in Sydney and in Moncton. Eleanor and her late husband Eric enjoyed trailoring for many years. She is survived by sisters Betty Wallace (Peter), Maxine Johnston, Katherine Breau (Fred), brothers; Frank (Francis), Joseph (Janice) all of Moncton, step-son Bryan Finney (Ann) of Ottawa, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grand children, as well as eleven nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband Eric Finney, sister Marion Creaghan of Miramichi and step-daughter Carol Ann Chisolm of Antigonish, NS. Mrs. Mary Karchut January 28, 1919 - March 26, 2009 - KARCHUT, Mary, born January 28, 1919, Kopernick, Alberta; died March 26, 2009, Victoria, BC. Predeceased by her husband, Nick, and her sons David and Dennis. Leaves to mourn her children: Brian Karchut (Evol) and Donna Teague, and her grandchildren: Karen Jenkins (Ken), Heather Crawford (Paul), James Karchut (Launa), Amy Karchut and Paul Karchut and 8 great grandchildren. Mary was a sweet and gentle person who loved her family above all else. She was cared for with great compassion and love for the last ten years by her second family, Dr. John Campbell and the staff of Heritage Woods, the Priory, Victoria, to whom we give our most profound thanks. She was one of the first residents of Heritage Woods, which was started as a model of how dementia patients were to be treated in the future in BC; although the staff contine to give their very best, there ought to be more Heritage Woods in order that society can return to the ideal of timely placement of dementia patients. Private family funeral was held at the Church of the Rosary, Langford, with interment in Royal Oak Cemetery following. von MUEHLDORFER, Edward "Teddy" Carl September 25, 1999 - March 27, 2009 Brother, son, cousin, nephew, grandchild, beautiful mystery. Tall, strong and determined, this peaceful hero battled every day of his life. Handsome and complex - with perfect skin, a ruddy complexion, and a once blond, alarmingly thick dark head of hair -- resigned in an imposing wheelchair with un-cooperative limbs and a neck lacking necessary stability. He sat in silence, but for coughing, containing his struggle - tended by more devotion than imagined possible. Teddy passed away Friday morning due to complications resulting from Lissencephaly. He was as loved during his lifetime as any boy could be. His parents, Thom von Muehldorfer and Anne Valentine built their family around his challenges and found in his diagnosis a reason to expand their love for one another and grow in hope together. Daily they triumphed in the face of adversity. Teddy travelled everywhere and was part of everything - as he grew and became more difficult to transport, their collective will (and mighty biceps) also grew. Teddy is survived by his mom and dad, his protector and big brave brother Ben, his super-power wielding brother Max, and his delightful, mischievous sister Val. He will be remembered and missed by his many cousins, aunts, uncles and perhaps most of all by his grandparents, Opi (Charles), Gramma Shirley and Papa Ted, his name sake who referred to him as Saint Teddy, the keeper of secrets, and indeed he did perform miracles, as he touched the lives and hearts of all those who crossed his path. Teddy now joins his Omi (Irene) keeping watch over us all. SKAKOON, Mary Teresa (nee Solski) - It is with great sorrow that the family announces the passing of Mary Teresa Skakoon on March 26th, 2009 at the St. Joseph Health Center after a brief illness. Mary was born in Coniston on April 6th, 1920 and moved to Sudbury where she married Nicholas Skakoon in 1941. Mary took an active role in ensuring the success of the various business ventures of her family. Mary was a wonderful cook and will be remembered for traditional Christmas Eve dinners at Baba's house, with all of our favorites. Mary loved to travel and could have a suitcase packed in a moment's notice. Summers were spent with her family at camp where she enjoyed reminiscing about old times and we could always count on her to speak her mind. Mary was a well respected member of the Donovan for over 65 years and was noted for having the most elaborate Christmas lights display. She was a devout Roman Catholic, a member of Holy Trinity Church and recently received recognition for her 50 year membership in the Catholic Women's League. Mary will forever be remembered for her strength, kindness and loving nature. She was the stronghold of her family. She was the happiest when she was in the company of her children and grandchildren. She leaves behind three loving children; Vivian Cousins (Howard, deceased) of North Bay, Diane Knoblauch (Peter), Michael Skakoon (Claudette), both of Sudbury. Proud Baba; of Steven of Arizona, Michael-John of Windsor, and Nicholas and Michele both of Sudbury. Dear sister of Nick Solski (Elsie), special sister-in-law and best friend of Stella Solski. Cherished aunt of many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. VADER, William Allan - Entered into rest at the Sunnybrook Hospital, Toronto on Thursday, March 26th, 2009. WILLIAM ALLAN VADER of Wellington. Beloved son of the late Bert and Pearl Vader. Loving and cherished husband of Mavis (nee Snider) and the late Shirley (nee Preston). Special father of Sandra (Paul) Teevens, Sharon (Ted) Bond and Ken (Suzanne) Vader. Fondly remembered by his 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Survived by his sister Lorraine Peters and predeceased by his brother Grant Vader (Donna). Predeceased by her brother Raymond in November 2008. Michel Pigeon, fils de feu Albert Pigeon et de feu Noéma Cormier et époux de Huguette Dufour, demeurant à Sherbrooke. La famille vous accueillera à la Résidence funéraire Steve L. Elkas, vendredi le 3 avril 2009 de 14 h à 16 h et de 19 h à 22 h et samedi de 9 h jusqu'au départ du salon à 10h15. Le service religieux sera célébré, le SAMEDI 4 avril 2009 à 10h30 en l'église St-Jean Baptiste et de là au cimetière St-Michel de Sherbrooke. M. Pigeon laisse dans le deuil outre son épouse, ses enfants Daniel (Michelle Bourque), Jean (Émilie Vézina). Ses petits-enfants Maxime, Alexandra, Anne-Catherine, Christophe et Émiliane. Sa mère Mme Simonne Bigonesse-Pigeon. M. Pigeon était le frère de : Suzanne (feu Henri-Paul Drouin), Lucille, Laurent (Gisèle Morin), feu Jean-Marc, Paul (Jeannine Désilets), Andrée (feu Georges Pigeon), Madeleine (feu Jim Reed), Monique (Jean-Rock Lacasse), Raymond (Nicole De Lafontaine), Micheline (Guy René).
