VOWLES, Mary (nee Noonan) Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, February 28, 2009 in her 65th year. Born on March 12, 1944 in Gravelburg, Saskatchewan, Mary was raised in Perth and Balderson, Ontario. Beloved wife of 36 years to Ken Vowles. She will forever be fondly remembered by her two children Dennis, and Jennifer Millenor (Kirk Millenor) and her cherished grandchildren Connor, Jackson and Benjamin. She will be sadly missed by her brothers Charles Noonan (Karen Cummings) and David Noonan (Arlene), her nieces and nephews Jesse, Jordan, Michael and Katie (Craig Bryant), great-niece Alexandra, as well as by many friends. Relatives and friends will be received at Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St. Joseph Blvd., Orleans, on Thursday, March 5, from 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Divine Infant Church, 6658 Bilberry Dr., Orleans on Friday, March 6, at 11 a.m., followed by reception in parish hall. WONG, David (Own Gett Woo) Born January 2, 1932, in Guangdong, China. He passed away in his home, Ottawa, ON, February 24, 2009. David was a Chinese chef and restaurant owner for most of his life. He is survived by his aunt Li Yong Wong, Ottawa; uncle Woo Fai, Hong Kong; cousin Grace Chow, USA; and other relatives including nieces and nephews in Canada, USA and China. He was preceded in death by his father, Wu Qiao Nuan and mother, Guan Liang Cai, Guongdong, China. DOMSTAD, Bernard "Darrel". Bernard Darrel Domstad was born on September 13, 1963 in Edmonton, Alberta, and passed away suddenly on February 23, 2009 in Falun, Alberta at the age of 45 years. Darrel is survived by his father, Bernard Domstad (Margaret); mother, Jerron Domstad (Mickey); sisters, Lyndon (John) Gervais, Diane (Wayne) Ducharme, Allyson Foulkes (Mark), Arden (Don) Neustaedter, Karen (Richard) Fluter, and Maureen (Bob) Hurst as well as fifteen nieces and nephews who will all miss his presence, sense of humour and his laughter. Darrel will be heartbreakingly mourned by his family and friends. HANEY, Irma (Roy) (Crawford) Irma Haney passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the age of 81 years after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Bellevue, Alberta on November 11, 1927, she went to be with the Lord at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, 2009. She is survived by daughters Gale Roy, Penny (Bob) Roy, and Sandy Haney; sons Ron Roy, Dan (Wendy) Roy, Darcy (Becky) Roy, and Lorry (Penny) Roy; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sisters Lois Butz, Shirley Butz, and Patty Barclay. Irma was predeceased by her husband Joseph J. Roy in April, 1960 and her son Dennis Roy in June 1971. MARTIN, Donna May (nee Wood) March 2, 1957 - February 28, 2009 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, sister and aunt at the U of A Hospital in Edmonton, due to complications from a double lung transplant. Left to mourn are her sons, Christopher Switzer of Black Diamond and Jamie Switzer of High River, her sisters, Heather Wimmenhove of Calgary and Sharon (Harry) Boyko of Edmonton, nephews, Jeff Wimmenhove of Calgary and Shaun and Travis Wood of High River, niece Lisa Wood of Edmonton, aunt Elaine Bird of Okotoks and numerous cousins. She was loved by many people and we thank all her devoted friends for their prayers during her long courageous struggle. MILLER, Gerald Mark 1927 - 2009 Gerald Mark (Gerry) Miller passed away February 28, 2009 at Eagle Park Healthcare Facility in Qualicum Beach, BC. He was 81. He is survived by his loving wife Diane, stepdaughters Jessica (Rod) Keller and Cindy (Mike) McPherson, as well as father-in-law Arthur (Irene) Hainsworth, mother-in-law Phyllis Hainsworth and sister-in-law Nancy Smith. He is also survived by his brother Dean (Lorraine) Miller and sisters Doreen Gouthreau and Marcia (Walter) Golemblaski; along with numerous nieces, nephews and step-grandkids. Gerry is predeceased by his first wife Patricia and their children Wayne and Lynn Miller. He is also predeceased by his parents Joseph and Anne Miller; brothers Dale, Jim, Buck, Ken, Donald, Ronald, Jackie and sister Marilynn. Gerry rose from humble beginnings in Kindersley, Saskatchewan during the Depression to "glory days" as one of the youngest pro-football players for the Calgary Stampeders. Always the workaholic he became an executive for Canadian Hydrocarbons and pioneered the propane industry in North America. He then started his own company and spread his entrepreneurial spirit across two provinces. Much loved by all he met, Gerry was known for his generosity to fellow business people. "Let's get together and talk." Always proud of his Harvard business degree, Gerry loved to share his expertise. His loving kindness was his most notable trait. PEROZNI, Mike It is with great sadness that the family of Mike Perozni announce his passing on March 1, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Mike will be lovingly remembered by his son, Lenard (Bernice) of Calgary; grandson, Tyler (Sheri) and great-grandsons, Barrett, Grayden and Kalder, all of Edmonton. Mike was predeceased by his wife, Jean in 2004; his father, Georgy and his mother, Danica; two sisters, Kathy and Velma; two brothers, John and George. Mike was born in Boian, AB, on October 9, 1917, the youngest of five children. Mike married Jean Zukiwski on October 12, 1941. Mike and Jean moved to Banff in 1954, where they owned and operated the Bel Plaza Motel. In 1962, Mike and Jean moved to Calgary where they built the Ambassador Motel, which is still operated by the family. In 1972, Mike and Jean built the Ambassador Motor Inn in Edmonton and sold the hotel in 1976. Mike and Jean retired in 1980 in the Willingdon area. Mike was very active with Sts. Constantine and Elena Romanian Orthodox Church in Edmonton and also with St. Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church at Boriwitzi, Willingdon, AB. The family would sincerely like to thank Dr. Connie Ellis and the Bowness Medical staff in Calgary, the Two Hills Hospital staff and the Eagle Lodge staff. Captain Herman McDonald January 17, 1923 - February 23, 2009 86, of Dartmouth, passed peacefully away on February 23, 2009, in the excellent care of the staff at Northwood One Centre. Born in Isle-Aux-Morte, N.L., he was a son of the late Michael and Annie-Maude (Knott) McDonald. Following in the footsteps of his father he went to sea at an early age as a fisherman on his father's schooner, the Rose Dorothy. During the Second World War, he served in Canada's Merchant Navy and the Canadian Naval Reserve. In 1946 he resumed his career with Imperial Oil achieving the rank of Captain during a long and distinguished service of 33 years. Upon retiring, he enjoyed a life full of family and friends. He loved family dinners and picnics and was always willing to share a story with his quick wit and humour. He loved meeting people, whether fishing on Grand Lake, camping in Green Valley, having coffee with his buddies or spending time at his friend John's camp. His presence always ensured a lively occasion. Herman will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Florence (May) McDonald. He is survived by children, Glen (Claudette), Toronto; Barrie (Judy), Delta, B.C.; Wanda (Leslie) Webber, Dartmouth; Gail (Alan) Dawe, Dartmouth; grandchildren, Violet, Jesse, Christy Webber; brothers, Kenneth (Barbara), North Sydney; Lorne (Millie), Moncton. Herman is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by sisters, Florence, Vivian, and Cedella; brothers, Thomas, Allan and James. No visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 28, at 11 a.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Mrs. Phyllis G. Hopper September 11, 1934 - February 22, 2009 Phyllis G. Hopper of Moncton, passed away at The Moncton Hospital, on Sunday, February 22nd, 2009. Born in Fredericton, on September 11th, 1934, she was the daughter the late Hebert and Edna (Cluely) Dawkins. Phyllis retired from the RCAF in Trenton, ON, and worked for Sears Automotive in Dieppe and Woolco in Moncton. She was an active member of the Sunny Brae Baptist Church, a volunteer support counselor with the Canadian Cancer Society and an avid ‘tit Bateau Paddler. Her children always said “ if we can’t find Mom she was either at the church or on the water paddling” She was such an inspiration for living life to the fullest until God called her home on Sunday, February 22nd, 2009. Phyllis will be deeply missed by her three children; Pamela (Bernard) Richard, Beverly (Pierrot) LeBlanc, Michael (Christa) Hopper, and the 5 grand children she adored; Marc LeBlanc, Lauren Richard, Michael Richard, Nicholas Hopper and Carlee Hopper, her brother Clair (Rae) Dawkins, sisters; Cathy (Robert) Giles, Gloria Dawkins, several nieces and nephews and all her wonderful friends she has met over the years. We will love you for always. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Alvin Hopper and an infant brother Melvin. Born in Toronto, Ontario on April 15, 1921, Ernest grew up in New Brunswick. He served in World War II and was stationed in England where he met his wife Lilian. JOHNSTON, Gordon - September 16, 1933 - February 23, 2009 After golfing with friends, on his way home from Florida, on Monday, February 23, 2009 at the age of 75. Loving husband of Linda, beloved father of Janet Wallace (David), Barbara Johnston (James Cowan), Nancy Johnston (Julia Dahl), Jennifer Kennedy, Christopher Kennedy (Wayne Henry), Kirk Johnston (Katrina). Cherished grandfather of Bradley and Steven Wallace, and Hannah, Charlotte and William Cowan. Wonderful brother to Russell (Aleda), Billy, Evelyn, Murray (Jean), Marilyn Langille (Albert Aiello), Bernice Taras (Ed), and Larry (Sandra) and brother-in-law of Robert Aitken (Marion). He is predeceased by his first wife Anne (Sweeting) (1971), his parents Wesley and Annie, and his sister Leona Leiden (Orland). Gord had a remarkable career spanning over 50 years with Kingsway Transport and was a member of Traffic Clubs of Buffalo, Niagara and Hamilton. He was a Paul Harris Fellow with the St. Catharines Rotary Club, a member of Lookout Point Golf & Country Club, a long standing member of St. Paul St. United Church, and an inductee into the Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame. Gord enjoyed spending time with his family at the cottage in Haliburton and on the golf course with his friends. A special thank you to Dr. Martin Samosh, and also Dr. Mark Minden of Princess Margaret Hospital. Mr. Johnston is at the NIAGARA ST. Jim loved to drive and do carpentry work. He was employed by various trucking companies and retired in 1991 due to ill health. Jim was predeceased by his parents Nina and Albert, two sisters Nina Marie in infancy and Margaret Tennant as well as nephew Jim Tennant. Cremation has taken place and a grave side service for family and friends will be held on Monday, March 9th, 2009 at 2:00pm at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Joyce Arline Bull September 29, 1935 - February 21, 2009, age 73 years passed away Saturday February 21, 2009 at Bethammi Nursing Home, St. Joseph’s Heritage, Thunder Bay, Ontario, following a lengthy illness. Born in Port Arthur, Ontario to Ruby and Hjalmer Bjerkesteun, Arline spent her high school years in Atikokan, Ontario. Arline graduated from McKellar Nursing School in 1956 and worked 25 years as an Operating Room Nurse, mostly with McKellar General Hospital in Fort William, Ontario. Arline was an avid skier and member of Mount McKay and Candy Mountain ski areas. She served with many organizations including St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, the Kiwanis Club Ladies Auxiliary, the Shebandowan Camper’s Association, and the Maple Crest Towers Condominium Executive donating her time and talents. Arline was an accomplished seamstress making clothes for those less fortunate, baking for charitable groups to raise money, and pursued her interests in crafts. Arline also supported local Thunder Bay Arts and Culture including the Thunder Bay Symphony and local theatre organizations. Arline spent her retirement years at her beloved Shebandowan Lake Camp with her husband James where she enjoyed hosting bridge tournaments, gardening, and sharing the summer months with her children and grandchildren. There was nothing more important to Arline than family. Arline is survived by her husband James of 49 years, son Jeff of London, Ontario, daughter Jocelyn (Garbutt) and son-in-law Byron Garbutt of Bowmanville, Ontario, cherished grandchildren Michael, Spencer, and Matthew Bull of London, Kimberley, Ryan, Kaitlyn, and Daryn Garbutt of Bowmanville. Arline is also survived by her sister, Loraine Tribe (Bjerke), brother-in-law, Douglas Tribe of Atikokan, Ontario, and sister-in-law Carol Bull (Raynard) of Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend thank-you to the family and friends who spent time with Arline during her prolonged illness, and to the nursing staff at Thunder Bay Interim Care, and Bethammi Nursing Home for their care. The family would like to also extend special thank-you to Donalda and Norman Galloway, Rev. Bert Vancook, and to friend Julie Cooper who Arline called her ‘angels from heaven’ in assisting with her care needs. Family visitation will take place from 6:00-7:00pm Thursday February 26, 2009 at Jenkens Funeral Home. The Family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00pm. Mr. Theodore "Ted" Joseph Sperling June 20, 1941 - February 22, 2009 In Loving Memory of Theodore ‘Ted’ Sperling Theodore ‘Ted’ Sperling passed away peacefully in his home o Sunday, February 22, 2009. He attended school in Young, SK. Ted and Sharon married on February 2nd, 1963 in Saskatoon, SK. Ted enjoyed singing and playing music (guitar and accordion) at an early age. He loved entertaining family and friends. He played in many bands including the Trimble Tones. He also worked at Dairy Producers for 32 years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
