DeDONATO, Rachele - After a courageous battle with cancer Rachele slipped away into the hands of God on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at her home surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband Mario. Always together and by each others side, they were married for 56 years. Rachele was born in Pedace (Cosenza) Italy in 1930 and immigrated to Welland in 1957. She leaves behind two loving sons, Frank (Gabriella) of Mississauga and Sam (Rosa) of Welland. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Michael and Laura of Mississauga and Johnny and Jessica of Welland. Rachele is now reunited with her son Johnny who passed away in 1990. She will always be remembered puttering around in her garden, spending every moment with her husband. Rachele is survived by her sisters Assunta (late Gaetano) of Welland, Rita (Salvatore), brothers, Tony (Amalia) and Gaspare (Ida) of Italy as well as many nieces, nephews and special friends. Predeceased by her brother Alberico Manieri and his wife Francesca Manieri. Friends are invited to visit the family at the H.L. MOLYNEAUX, Alice Alice Molyneaux of Granum passed away peacefully at the age of 95, on February 10, 2009 at Claresholm hospital after a brief illness. Alice was born in Preston, Lancs England. She was predeceased by her husband Richard in 1980 and also by one grandchild, three brothers and one sister. Alice is survived by her four children, Marjorie, Brian (Kath), Kathie (Derek) and Dick (Sharon), sixteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren. Also by her sisters, Doris and Gladys (Jim) and brother Eric (Katherine) and her many nieces and nephews in Canada and England. At Alice's request there will be no funeral Service. La Communauté accueillera les parents et amis à la Maison provinciale du Bon-Pasteur 424, rue Bégin Chicoutimi à compter du lundi 23 février 2009 à 19 h. Les heures d'accueil sont: lundi 23 février 2009 de 19 h à 21 h. Mardi, jour des funérailles à compter de 8 h 30. Les funérailles auront lieu mardi 24 février 2009 à 10 h à la chapelle de la Maison provinciale du Bon-Pasteur, 424, rue Bégin, Chicoutimi. L'inhumation aura lieu au cimetière Notre-Dame de Laterrière. Native de Saint-Coeur de Marie, Lac-St-Jean, soeur Marthe était la fille de feu M. Joseph Dorval et de feu Mme Rose-Anna Simard. « Consacrée au service de la vie », soeur Marthe l'a manifesté en mettant généreusement en oeuvre toutes les ressources de son coeur, tous les dons de la nature et de la grâce. Elle était artiste-née. Elle s'est vouée à l'éducation comme enseignante au secondaire pendant une vingtaine d'années à Chicoutimi, Charlesbourg et Saint-Stanislas. Ensuite comme bibliothécaire scolaire pendant dix ans, spécialement à Chicoutimi. Entre 1980 et 1988, son champ d'apostolat fut l'Éducation de la Foi à L'Ascension. Puis, ses talents seront mis à profit dans des services communautaires. A partir de 1991, soeur Marthe sera affectée de façon particulière à la conservation du patrimoine (Musée). Là, elle s'est ingéniée à donner de la vie aux objets et aux documents importants à garder pour l'histoire et pour le souvenir. Outre sa famille religieuse, soeur Marthe laisse dans le deuil sa soeur Thérèse (feu Paul Tremblay) et son frère Laurent (Carmen Dubois), ainsi qu'une belle-soeur : Magella Labrecque-Gaudreault (feu Albert Dorval). Elle était la soeur de feu Paul-Emile (feu Juliette Fleury), feu Mariette (feu Lorenzo Simard et feu Paul Bélanger), feu Ernest Dorval-Tremblay (feu Florina Larouche), feu Georgette (feu Léo Simard), feu Germaine (feu Laurent Desbiens et feu Wilfrid Larouche), feu Fernande (feu Rosaire Gagné). Elle Laisse encore dans le deuil des neveux et nièces, des parents et amis. McKENNA, Joan 2009-02-23 It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Mrs. Joan McKenna on Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Joan was born in Dublin, Ireland on July 31, 1936 and attended Sacred Heart Convent School. She married Bryan in 1958 and they moved to Montreal where Joan worked as a model. Joan also trained as an artist at both the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts under Arthur Lismer and the Saidye Bronfman Centre, where she did abstract painting with Yehouda Chaki. In 1974, Joan and Bryan arrived in Thunder Bay with their 4 children. She opened The Dove Pottery, combining her passion for art with the practicality of pottery, which was sold both locally and nationally. Joan was also active in the local artists‘ community, serving as a founding member of Artisans Northwest. In 1996, Joan discovered the joy of sharing her love of pottery through teaching. Joan‘s love of animals meant that there were always dogs, cats and birds around. Over the past couple of years Joan became active in the canine community participating in canine freestyle, agility and Rally-O. Most importantly, Joan was a loving wife, mother and caring friend. Her generous, easygoing nature combined with her boundless energy, love and respect for all was a joy to be around. Joan always put others before herself and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Joan is survived by her loving husband Bryan of 50 years. She is also survived by her daughter Theresa and sons Peter (Julie), Joseph (Abbotsford, BC), John (Allison); grandchildren Steven, David, Shaina, Emily, and Jacqueline McKenna; cousin Isobel (Rob) Davis of BC; along with her brother and sister-in-law. Joan is predeceased by her parents Olga (nee Boyle- Norcott) and William Whitelegge of Dublin, Ireland. COWLEY, T. David November 4, 1934 - February 20, 2009 David (Dave) Cowley, beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, passed away peacefully with his wife and family by his side on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the age of 74 years. Dave was born November 4, 1934, the first of five boys to Norman and Annie Cowley in Calgary, spending some of his formative years in Hillhurst. He met and married the love of his life, Elaine Leier, his "honey babe"; together they raised a wonderful family, a son and four daughters. He found his niche in sales, opening his own company, Cowley & Keith Real Estate in 1972. The company grew to become one of the largest real estate brokerage companies in Canada by 1981. The company was recognized by its hot air balloon that was seen soaring over the Calgary skyline or flying during the Stampede. Dave started various companies working closely with his son Darrol, even up to the time of his passing. A lifelong resident, Dave has always been committed to this city and community, serving two years on the Calgary Police Commission, a director of the 1988 Winter Olympic Committee, founding president of the Lake Bonavista Community Association, sponsor of the Cowley & Keith Colts Bantam Football, associate director of the Stampeder Football Club, member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO), Kinsmen Club, Rotary Club, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). He was a furious defender of what was right, always concerned about the disadvantaged. He just loved people, he would talk to anyone, really everyone; he had a real zest for life. Dave loved the great outdoors, walking, biking, jogging, and he completed two New York City Marathons. His greatest joy came from the lives of his family and friends. Dave is survived by his wife Elaine; son Darrol (Esther) Cowley; daughters, Sandi (Bill) Sefcik, Wendy (Dave) Farnsworth, Diana (Bryce) Karl, and Barbie-Jo (Jamie) Vincent; twenty-six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Stan (Gloria), Norman (Eileen), and Ray; sister-in-law Jeanette; as well as countless close friends and associates. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Norman and Annie Cowley; and by brother Warren. God threw a pebble down to earth, those ripples from this man have touched each of us to be a little better, reach a little further, and give a little more just as he did to us. MORGAN, Luke Elcock December 5, 1923 - February 21, 2009 Luke (Jay) Morgan, beloved husband of Doreen Morgan of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Besides his loving wife Doreen, Jay is survived by two of his children, Luke Morgan (and his sons Stephen and Christopher), Anne Donaldson (Tom and their children Michael, Daniel and Laura); and daughter-in-law Shona Morgan (and her children Ty and Demi). Luke was predeceased by his beloved son, Robert Bruce Morgan in the year 2000 and by his granddaughter, Ashley Marie Donaldson in 1986. Jay was born in 1923 in Edmonton, Alberta and moved to Calgary as a young boy. Jay attended St. Mary's Boys School and at the age of seventeen, joined the Royal Canadian Air Force after his brother Jack was killed in WWII. Jay became a pilot with the RCAF and was stationed in England with the Royal Air Force (RAF). He was Flight Lieutenant of a Lancaster Bomber where he flew thirty-six bombing missions at night over Germany and hundreds of miles inside occupied Europe. Jay was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross (D.F.C.) at the end of WWII. After the war, Jay met Doreen Merriman and they married in 1953. Jay became a respected Oil Scout and worked for different oil companies, eventually retiring with Petro-Canada in 1985. In his retirement he enjoyed golfing at Nanton Golf Course, curling, playing bridge and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Jay's greatest joy was being with Doreen who unconditionally loved and cared for him. This past October, 2008, Jay was able to relive memories of his war experience when he was invited by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) to fly to Boston, Lincolnshire, where the BBC television program Inside Out did a story on the sixty-three year reunion of Jay and his Flight Engineer, Syd Marshall (the last two surviving members of the RAF Squadron 103). Accompanied by his son Luke, they visited Elsham Woods, Lincolnshire, where they were stationed from 1942 to 1945 and participated in the festivities of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Jay is also predeceased by his parents Luke Elcock and Blanche Anne Morgan, brothers Jack and Stephen, and sisters Margaret Graham, Kay Jones and Helen Holdsworth. Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church (5340 - 4 Street S.W.) on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. CLUTTERBUCK, Helen Loretta (Phelan) - July 22, 1924 - February 21, 2009. It is with great sadness that we let our mother go, but with joy knowing she is now with our father and sister. She was the heart and soul of our family. The only labour she endured was the love she passed to all of her twelve children, twenty-six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She reached out to help her community through St. Vincent de Paul and the Catholic Women's League of St. Mary of Assumption Parish in Western Hill. Mom's spirit will live on for generations to come. She leaves behind her children and their families. LOCKEY, Annie Winnifred (nee Hawkins) - Passed away peacefully at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2009, in her 94th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Ralph in her 1993, son Bruce in 2008, brothers Blake in 1956 and Ralph in 1993. She leaves to mourn her loss, sons, Wayne (Linda), Brian (Mary Lou), daughter Alice (Lyle Hall) and daughter in law Gwen. She also leaves 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren as well as her sisters Ruth and Barbara. Annie was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and had been a longtime teacher at Power Glen and Westdale Schools.
