Dave Olliff Passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, December 21, 2008. David Lloyd Olliff, of Durham, in his 54th year. Loving husband and best friend of the former Debbie Lawrence. Cherished father of Heather and her husband Scott Holloway of Edmonton, Alberta, and Jeff Olliff and his friend Deana of Pickering. Brother of Bonnie and her husband Don Cook and Glenda and her husband Ken Richardson, all of Brampton. Son- in-law of Norman and Myrtle Lawrence of Durham and brother-in-law of Cheryl and Kevin Holmes of Cambridge and Steven Lawrence of British Columbia. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and his dog Chester. Predeceased by his parents Lloyd and Bernice Olliff. Visitation was held at the McCulloch-Watson Funeral Home, Durham on Saturday, December 27 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm, where members of the Masonic Lodge held a memorial service at 6:30 pm. A Celebration of Dave's Life was held at the Durham Legion on Sunday, December 28 at 2 pm. Kent Shelley officiated and Marilyn Dickson played the organ. Words of remembrance were given by his children, Heather and Jeff, and by his cousin, Linda Topping. The congregation sang "Softly and Tenderly" and "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You." Special music was played during the service, "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and "You Raise Me Up." The honourary pallbearers were Ken McCulloch and Bob Tyndall. The pallbearers were Harold Jelenski, Scott Holloway, Ken Richardson, Donald Cook Sr., Kevin Holmes and Paul Sharland. The flower bearers were Kim Richardson, Kevin Richardson, Lori Cook, Don Cook Jr. and Brian Cook. Cremation to follow. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Humane Society would be appreciated by the family.

DAY, Paula Marie - Paula Marie Day of Red Deer, Alberta passed away at Red Deer Regional Hospital on December 23, 2008 at the age of 47. Paula grew up in Peterborough, Ontario, and lived in Alberta throughout her adult years. She was a great mother and wife, who offered her heart and friendship to everyone she knew. She loved books and was an avid reader and a music lover. The family wishes to thank the Hospital Staff of Red Deer Regional Hospital Units 22 and 32 for their kindness. We fondly remember Doctor Max Brown (deceased) who cared for Paula for many years. Great appreciation is extended to Doctor Wayne Church who saw to Paula's care through the last year and gave his time and compassion to her and her family. Paula will be lovingly remembered by her husband William (Bill) Day of Red Deer, Alberta, her two daughters Angela Day of Red Deer, Alberta, and Katie Day of Vancouver, B.C. as well as, her mother Anne Cairns and stepfather Ken Cairns of Peterborough, Ontario, and her two brothers Dean Silvestri of Carrying Place, Ontario, and Mark Silvestri of Peterborough, Ontario. Paula was predeceased by her father Gil Silvestri of Peterborough, Ontario. A private family gathering was held in Red Deer to celebrate Paula and her life. TISDALE, Vivian Hilda (Taylor) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vivian at the Belleville General Hospital on December 26, 2008 in her 79th year. Vivian was predeceased by husbands Patrick Arnold and Jack Tisdale, sister Muriel Rendall, brother Robert, daughter Vianne and son Brian Arnold. She is survived by her sister Mildred Hunt (Bill), her daughter Susan Keegan (Kirk) and son David Arnold (Susan), and her grand children Jerimy, Jason, Shaine, Shonna, Cashlyn, and Braedan, and five great grand children, Brandon, Rowan, Laura, Brittaney and Dustin. Vivian will be greatly missed not only by her close family but by all her friends at the Hastings County Manor. Her niece, Margot Wellington (Joe), who devoted many hours of car to her Aunt during a previous illness is especially saddened. At the request of the family there will be no visitation. SABZALI, Ermine (nee Kanhai) - In a glow of beauty passed away peacefully at Laurentian Hospital, Sudbury, Ontario on December 28, 2008 in her 74th year. Ermine is survived by her devoted husband Henry Sabzali with whom she shared fifty years of marriage. She is also survived by her children Sabrina, Arran, Joey, Wayne and his wife Alison, CIndy and her husband Alan, and grandchildren Christopher, Brendan, Hunter, Jaida, Daniel, Rebecca, Crystal, Milana, and Sophia; brothers Cornelius and his wife Ruth, Ezekiel, Nahum, Joshua and his wife Savitri, Moses and his wife Cintra; sisters Evangeline, Cecilia and close cousin Pearly Sirju. She was predeceased by her parents John and Hilda Kanhai and her son Billy. Ermine was born and raised in Syne Village, Penal, Trinidad. She received her early education in Trinidad and her post-secondary education at the University of Western Ontario. Her long involvement in teaching includes primary and secondary education in Trinidad and post secondary education at Cambrian College in Sudbury. A Memorial Celebration will be held at JACKSON AND BARNARD FUNERAL HOME at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday Dec. 31st 2008. KUKKEE, Peter 2008-12-30 Mr. Peter Kukkee, age 48 years, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Friday, December 26, 2008. Russell would be known for his job at Great Lakes Paper Co. as a Camp Clerk in the Valora area for 25 years. Cremation has taken place and his remains shall be buried later. SCHWEEN, ELLI 2008-12-30 It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great grandmother, auntie, sister and friend, Elli Anna liisa Schween, nee Koivuranta. Elli was a pillar for her family and a role model for her friends. If she believed in something she let it be known. Elli was a frequent flyer at the library as she read books like most of us do laundry, all the time. She loved to nurture: her children, her garden, and her relationships. Always giving, always there. She loved her family and strays alike; everyone was equal in our mother‘s eyes. Elli was a woman who loved to entertain; she could put on the dog and tell the best stories at the same time. She loved to travel and she made many exotic friends in her wake. You could not easily pull the wool over Elli‘s eyes, they were always open and knew the score. If Elli need something she would make it. She could fabricate anything if she had the stuff. When there were people over and they were hungry, she would open the cupboard and in 1/2 hour there would be a full course meal. Elli is survived by her 2 daughters Arlene Gailing, and Natalie Smith, 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grand children. Also survived by brother Alpo Koivuranta. Elli is predeceased by her mother and father, her 2 brothers, her son and 2 husbands. CLEVELAND, J. Harrison 95, died peacefully in Toronto surrounded by family December 28, 2008. Harrison was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Delta Steene. He is survived by his brother Eric, children John, Gordon and Janet and grandchildren Tara and Julia. Harrison was born in Montreal, June 23 1913 and grew up in Halifax-Dartmouth NS, surviving the Halifax Explosion of 1917. Harrison had a strong ethical orientation and a commitment to service from an early age. He was highly involved in Anglican church organizations as a youth, was an active lay reader who often took services throughout his adult life and worked for many years to increase dialogue between different faiths and denominations. Harrison was a high achieving student, nominated for a Rhodes scholarship, with a BA Honours in English and Latin in 1933 and an LLB from Dalhousie Law School in 1936. After briefly practicing law, Harrison was an early volunteer in the fight against fascism serving as a naval officer on active duty in the North Atlantic convoy and as an administrative officer in London during the Blitz. After the war, Harrison joined External Affairs. He was head of American division responsible for consular services in the Eastern USA, a negotiator of treaties on the International Joint Commission, first secretary in Pakistan and ambassador to Finland, Nigeria and Colombia, returning to Ottawa in 1970 to serve as co-commissioner on the Foreign Claims Commission. Donations may be made to Oxfam or your local food bank. A memorial service and burial will be held at St Marys Church, North March Ontario in late August 2009. OBITUARY JEAN YEATES Jean Mildred Yeates (nee Otter) from Dorval, Quebec, died peacefully at the West Island Palliative Care Center on December 28, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband Bud. Jean was the beloved mother of Jim (Deb), Ted (Sherry), Ken (Pat), Joan Shortsleeve (Dane), Patti Dice (Doug) and Dan Furlotte (Elaine Williams). She was the proud grandmother to Lisa (Rob Evans), Michelle (Alex Tyszkiewicz), Doug, Taylor, Braden, Andrea and Kyle Shortsleeve, and Jason and Chelsea Dice. Jean was an independent woman with strong energy. She gave selflessly to her family, friends and community. Over the years she worked tirelessly for the Girl Guides of Canada, the Lachine General Hospital, the V.O.N., the West Island Volunteer Bureau and Meals on Wheels. Jean's amazing energy touched many, many lives and she will be greatly missed by all. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 2 at 11 a.m. in St. Mark's Church at 865 Lakeshore Blvd. in Dorval. Visitation will be at the Church one hour prior to the service and a reception at the Church will be held following the service. A family burial will be in the spring on the Field-of-Honour in Pointe-Claire. GOSS, Lewis William (Bill) June 1, 1919 - December 28, 2008 Bill Goss of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Joan in June, 2003, and a daughter Wilma Beth in 1959. He leaves behind his nine children, Morton, Sandra, Debbi, Cheryl, Glenda, Noreen, Greg, Tom and Lisa. He also leaves behind nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Bill was born in Rollingdam, New Brunswick and served in the Canadian Army during WWII. After the war, he met and married Joan Clarke of Timmins, Ontario in 1948 and after a period, settled in Kenora, Ontario where he raised his children and served as the warden of the provincial jail until 1982. Although he moved to Alberta in 1994, he considered Kenora "home" where he had made many special friends. Bill enjoyed fishing and golfing and loved a good party. As per his wishes, there will be no formal Services in Calgary and a celebration of his life and Interment beside his beloved wife Joan will be held in Kenora in June 2009. The family wishes to thank all those at the Rosedale Hospice for their care, love and support during his final days. Gerri was born in St. Boniface, MB and grew up there as a child. She met her husband John in Winnipeg and started their family. After a short time in Montreal, the family moved to Calgary in 1971. After John's retirement, Gerri and John began to travel and enjoyed many trips around the world. She was a dedicated wife and mother and her family was the most important thing to her. Gerri will always be remembered by all that knew her for her warm, loving and generous nature. ARNAULT, Rosalie Irene (nee Pipe) Was born on February 14, 1921 in Calgary, Alberta and entered into the joy of her Lord on Christmas Day, December 25, 2008, to now play in His heavenly orchestra. She reached the age of 87 years, 10 months and 11 days. Rosalie will be lovingly remembered by two sons, David (Edith) Wright of Canby, Oregon and Mel (Jo-Ann) Wright of Victoria, B.C.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; three sisters, Clara Watson of Calgary, Alberta, Carol Larson of Milk River, Alberta and Olive Hanen of Calgary, Alberta; Hubert's family and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hubert St. Arnault on June 30, 1989 after twenty-one years of marriage; one sister, Evelyn Sauer; two half-brothers, Dick and Eddie Pipe and two sisters-in-law, Chris Pipe and Rose Pipe. Rosalie will be sadly missed by many dear friends who became her "adopted" family. She was "Mom" and "Nana" to those people and through the years they were loved by her in such special ways. She had a deep abiding faith in her Lord, not only read her Bible, but lived out her faith in everyday life. No matter how rough life may have been for her at times, she always had a smile on her face, a song in her heart, a favorite Bible verse to share with you along with the assurance that she was praying for you. MISENER, William “Bill“ - Passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28th, 2008, in his 56th year. Best friend and partner of Eva for over 19 years. Loving father of Michelle (Jake), Scot (Ann), Linda, Arlene (Jock), Jim (Rachael) and Alan (Becke). Grandfather of Madison, Elston, Jonathon, Cohen, Ava, Gillian, William, Jeremy, Jan, Tim, Justin, Kristen, Todd, Sonya, Erin, Kedoh, Jeffery, Lindsay, Tyler and Robbi-Lynn and great-grandfather of 6. Cherished brother of Gary “Bud“ (Paulette), Tim and Wayne. Dear friend of Scott Dow. Predeceased by parents Ernest and Merle Misener, sister Donna, brother Ken, grandsons Brock and Michael and step- daughter Janice. Bill will be sadly missed by his dog Van and many other relatives and friends. Friends will be received at the HILL & ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 30 Nelson Street, on Tuesday, December 30th from 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Reception to celebrate the life of Bill will be held on Wednesday from 11-1 p.m. Interment Mt.
