CRAIG, Ronald Hambly - (W.W. II Veteran & 60 year Member - Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #34, Orillia) - Entered into rest peacefully after a brief illness at the Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 29th, 2008; in his 91st year. Ron Craig, beloved husband of the late Fern (nee: Orton) for 64 years. Loving father of Rhonda Ansell (Bob), Sandy predeceased, and John. Cherished Grandpa of Becky. Son of the late Edward and Luella Craig. Brother of Lorne predeceased (Marie), Ken predeceased (Elaine [Tot]) and Stan (Joan). He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. In his younger years, Ron enjoyed stream fishing and duck hunting. He was an avid bowler at Rainbow Lanes. After a 40 year career at Fahralloy (Fahramet) he retired to his Barrie Rd. residence where he shared his love of gardening with his wife. He had a particular passion for growing roses and loved to deliver bouquets at every opportunity. A special thank you to my brother John for caring for both of our parents over the past five years and keeping up the beautiful gardens that they loved. We will miss your big smile, Dad (Smiley). KLEINSCHROTH, Ernie - Passed away peacefully after a long illness at Caressant Care Nursing Home, Woodstock on Sunday, December 7, 2008 in his 89th year. He is survived by his wife and best friend Evelyn (nee Chiasson), sister-in-law Mary Kleinschroth of Woodstock, son Wayne Klein (Glenda) of Lindsay and daughter Brenda Curtis (Wayne) of Lindsay. Loved Papa of grandchildren Russell Curtis (Kelly), Janice Yerxa (Barry), Tina Klein Walsh, Randy Klein (Amanda), and Anne Marie Klein-Lee (Kevin), and great grandchildren Michelle, Michael, Meagan, Haley, Annika, Micah, and Tabitha. Predeceased by great granddaughter Carradale. Ernie was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and the Royal Canadian Legion. A World War II War Veteran, Ernie lost his left leg in England in 1944. He served as President and Director for a number of years for the Western Ontario Branch of The War Amps, and also was involved with the CHAMP Program. He worked as a laboratory technician at the Oxford Regional Centre for 35 years. Ernie loved his family and enjoyed being with them. BARROW, Jennifer Ann - Unexpectedly, but peacefully in her sleep at her home in Lindsay during the early morning hours of Christmas day, December 25, 2008. Jennifer Barrow, at the age of 34, was the much loved daughter of Grant and Ann Barrow, and loving sister of Rob and his wife Paula. Aunt Jen will be deeply missed by Max, Gus and Maggie. She is survived by her Nana Vera Barrow and predeceased by her grandparents Bob Barrow, and Max and Etta McGarey. Throughout her entire life Jen was a tough cookie: a gifted and fierce competitor who became an equally strong-willed survivor. Her perseverance and determination to succeed and to live life to the fullest extent possible, even in the face of adversity, will forever be an inspiration to her family and friends. We will miss her company, her humour and most of all her smiling face. RICCI, Olga Mary - Passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, at St. Catharines General Hospital on Monday December 29, 2008 at the age of 83. Beloved wife of the late Michael “Mac” Ricci (1993). Dearly loved and devoted mother of Phyllis Ricci of Los Angeles, Mary Lombardi, Linda (Ernesto) Pullia, Michael Ricci and Nick Ricci, all of Niagara Falls. Cherished grandmother of John Lombardi Jr., Rick Lombardi, Adriana Pullia and Lisa Marie Lombardi. Sadly missed by her loving niece Donna Taylor, her husband George and son Jimmy and by Giovannina Simioni. She was predeceased by her brother Raffaele Innocenti and her nephew Alex Innocenti. Together with her husband, Mrs. Ricci owned and operated the Oakes Inn for 51 years until her retirement in 2000. She will be remembered by many in the community for the compassion she showed to those less fortunate and she left a legacy of kindness for which she will be long remembered. She was also a devoted parishioner of St. Thomas More Church and a member of the Catholic Women's League and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. MEAGHER, Palmer (Phil) - It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Palmer (Phil) Meagher at the Welland Hospital on December 23rd, 2008 in his 86th year, surrounded by the love of his family and in the arms of his beloved wife of 60 years, Dolores. He leaves to mourn his children Sandra (John) Carnduff, Phillip (Lu) Meagher, Pamela (Brian) Duncan, Gail (Dave Mellor) Cahill, and Douglas (Kathy Noiles) Meagher. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Shari (Will) Nevilles, Stacey Duncan, Orenda Cahill, Hugh (Holly) Cahill, Shauna (Paul) Lysa, Lisa Carnduff and Adam Meagher (Selena) and his great grandchildren Tiernan, Connor, Raisa, Thomas, Steven, Jonathan, Brandon, Jonah and Jenny. He is also survived by his sisters Vi King of BC and June Hunter of Nova Scotia, and brother in laws John Oliver and Don Oliver of Welland. Phil was born in Springhill Nova Scotia on March 30th, 1923, worked in the coal mines at an early age and at the age of 17 years joined the Canadian Army to serve 5 years during WWII in the European campaign. Upon coming to Welland he met and married Dolores Oliver and though working at various jobs he finally settled as a letter carrier for Canada Post, a position he held until retiring in 1985. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at a later date as per his request. Adrien J. Fougère 1919-2008 A sa résidence à Dupuis Corner, le 30 décembre 2008, à l'âge de 89 ans, est décédé soudainement Adrien J. Fougère. Né le 29 octobre 1919 à Cap-Pelé, il était fils de feu Patrick et Melindé (LeBlanc) Fougère. Ancien combattant pendant la deuxième guerre mondiale, Adrien était avec le régiment Maisonneuve de l'armée canadienne, ayant servi en outre-mer en Europe continental et Royaume Uni. Il était membre de vie et ancien secrétaire de la Légion Canadienne #91 de Cap-Pelé et membre du club de l'âge d'or de Cap-Pelé. Il a travaillé pendant 28 ans pour National Sea Products. Il manquera beaucoup à son épouse depuis 66 ans Alexina (LeBlanc) Fougère, sept enfants: Adrienne Saulnier (Camille) de Dupuis Corner, Simonne Strang (Robert) de Melrose, Corinne Duguay (Adolphe) de Dieppe, Stella Fougère (Evie Lane) de Moncton, Henri (Diane Léger) de Grand-Barachois, Edouard (Paulette) de Cap-Pelé, et Georges (Denise) de Moncton; ses frères et soeurs: Anita East de Abitibi, QC, Marie-Jeanne Richard (France) de Hartford, Conn, Marguerite Cormier de Cap-Pelé, Maria Landry (Arthur) et Alphée Fougère (Anna) de Dupuis Corner; une belle-soeur Armande Fougère de Shédiac, onze petits-enfants, dix-sept arrière-petits-enfants, ainsi que plusieurs nièces, neveux et amis. Au Centre hospitalier universitaire de Québec, Pavillon de l'Hôtel-Dieu de Québec, le 22 décembre 2008, à l'âge de 38 ans et 11 mois, est décédé entouré de l'amour et du support de tous les siens, monsieur Richard St-Jean, Adjudant, C.D. au sein du 2e bataillon du 22e Royal Régiment des Forces Armées Canadiennes, originaire de Alfred, Ontario, conjoint de dame Anne Caron. Il demeurait à Québec (Saint-Émile). Selon ses volontés, il ne sera pas exposé. Toutefois, la famille recevra les condoléances au Centre funéraire de Charlesbourg (l'Anse) 7335, boul. CAMPBELL, Iris Mary Evelyn December 4, 1923 - December 23, 2008 Iris Campbell of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the age of 85 years. Iris was born and raised in Treherne, MB. She moved to Winnipeg where she met and married her husband Bart and started her career with The Bay. In 1971 they moved to Calgary where she continued her career with The Bay, retiring in the early 1980's. After retiring Iris enjoyed many winters in Florida. Iris will be remembered for her beautiful needle point pictures, paintings and knitting toques for premature babies at the hospitals. Iris is survived by her sister Lois MacLeod; brother Glenn Smith (Janice) and numerous nieces and nephews. Iris was predeceased by husband Bart Campbell in 1981. Lovely mother of Michael (Esther Schmidlin) of Switzerland, Jan (Cameron Haig) of Vancouver, and Jill (Colin MacWhirter) of Montreal; adoring grandmother of Jenna Haig, Devon Abson and Kyla Haig; aunt of Susan Marshall Profitt (Allen Profitt) of Charlottetown, and Bill Reeson (Sue) of High Wycombe, England, and many great nieces and nephews; predeceased by her sister Joan. Dori was a motorcycle dispatch rider with the English National Fire Service during World War II. This left her with a rather unlikely life-long love of motocross. She came to Canada as a war bride, and was married for 63 years to a man she had only known in England for 6 weeks. A landscape watercolourist, she was one of the founders of the Galerie Old Chelsea and for 22 years she was the indispensable head volunteer at the Wakefield Memorial Hospital, where she would ultimately spend the last 18 months of her life. She painted beautiful skies, she unaccountably loved opera and was a shockingly good dancer, she skied, she knitted, she read voraciously, she rescued animals, and she was there for anybody that needed help. Her dress sense was legendary. A heartfelt thank you to Martine and all of the amazingly compassionate and professional staff in long-term care at the Wakefield Hospital - where would we have been without you? VEENMAN, Maria N. - of London and formerly of Chatham went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 29, 2008. Born in Berkel, The Netherlands, 90 years ago, daughter of the late Petrus Koppert and Adriana DeJong. Her husband Murray Veenman predeceased in 1971. Grieving her passing are her children Gary Veenman (Alice) of Elora, Shawnie Wildeboer (Bill) of Markdale, Anna B. Veenman (Stewart Plantinga) of Kincardine, Margaret Spithoff (Klaas) of Burlington, Kees Veenman (Bonnie) of Abbotsford, BC, Mary Veenman (Ken Kennedy) and Pauline Trudell (Marc) of London, 29 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren. A sister Nees deVogel and in-laws, Gre Koppert, Niek and Co Veenman, Adrie van Bommel, Jannie Veenman all of the Netherlands and many nieces and nephews in Canada and The Netherlands. Predeceased by her brothers, Arie, Pete and Jan and sisters, Sjaan, Janny, Cor and Alie. Marie came to Canada in 1948 with her husband and her 4 eldest children, including six-week old Margaret. In Canada, Marie and Murray were blessed with three more children. Despite typical early immigrant struggles, Marie and Murray immediately loved their new country of Canada. As well as being a proud Canadian, Marie maintained her Dutch roots by frequently travelling to Holland to visit with family. In fact, if one phrase were to sum up the life of Marie, it would be “devotion to family and love of the Lord“. After many years of living independently in Chatham, Marie began to suffer from Alzheimer's Disease. She then spent five years brightening the lives of Mary and Ken in London. During this time, the difficult, but rewarding, task of looking after Marie was lightened immeasurably by the devoted support of her family. The family is also grateful for the support provided by her church family, by Saint Elizabeth support workers, and by McCormick Home Day Program staff. This support enabled Marie to stay in a family setting, until she finally moved to Elmwood Place Nursing Home, in Mary and Ken's neighbourhood. The family appreciates the wonderful care that Marie received at Elmwood Place Nursing Home in London for over 4 years. Friends will be received for visitation at the BOWMAN FUNERAL HOME, 4 Victoria Avenue, Chatham (519-352-2390) on Friday, January 2 from 2-4 and 7-9. A private family interment will take at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. ANGUS, Doris Maud - 1909 - 2008 On December 25, the wonderful life of Doris Maud Angus (nee Weston) ended peacefully at Ontario’s Belleville General Hospital at the age of 99, after a brief struggle with cancer. Beloved wife of Murray (deceased) and cherished mother of Phyllis (Bill, deceased) O’Callahan, Sharron (Doug) Kinny and Murray (Sandra), all of Ontario, and Reg (Gayelene Cook) of Charlottetown. Loving grandmother of 10, including Kaitlyn Angus and Matthew Angus of Charlottetown. She was the loving great-grandmother of 14 and a loving great-great-grandmother. Doris’ family want to thank her many friends and neighbours whose help allowed her to live a very active life and maintain her own house right to the end. Many thanks to the doctors, staff and, especially, the third floor nurses, at the hospital for their care and support. A ceremony celebrating Doris’ life will be held soon.

SCHMIDT, Henry May 31, 1935 - December 28, 2008 Henry Schmidt of Cochrane, AB, passed away into the presence of his Saviour and Lord on December 28, 2008, at the age of 73 years. Henry was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1948 at the age of thirteen. In 1958 he entered the teaching profession and taught for the Calgary Board of Education until his retirement in 1993. Coming out of retirement in 1996, he and his wife spent a year in Vienna, Austria, teaching at the Vienna Christian School. Shortly after their return, he was diagnosed with a rare disease known as amyloidosis. Recently he was diagnosed with cancer, to which he succumbed peacefully with his wife and children around him. Henry was known for his quiet, gentle manner, his wit and humour, his giving heart, and his tremendous love for God. Henry leaves to mourn, his loving wife of forty-four years, Marion; daughter Heather and her husband Sean Morin; son Darren and his wife Cara; and grandchildren Matthew, Aimee, and Jeremy; brother Len and his wife Helen; sister Frieda and her husband Jake Neufeld, and sister Lilly Polnau; as well as many other relatives and friends. DILLABOUGH, Wm. “Bill“ Boyd - In loving memory of William. “Bill“ Boyd Dillabough, 54 years, who passed away on Monday, December 29th, 2008 at the SRH- Laurentian Site. A well known and respected life resident of Sudbury Bill married in 1981 to Elizabeth (McCormick). He was a letter carrier with Canada Post for the past 29 years. An accomplished and gifted athlete Bill was an outstanding hockey player and coach. He played both competitive and recreational hockey. He had been a coach since his teens with various leagues including his children's teams. He also was an avid baseball player and coach, competing in the senior men's league. For the past 30 years he had helped organize and participate in the Plaza Open Golf Tournament enjoying the camaraderie of his friends at the Plaza. The focus of his life was his family. Whether building the annual backyard rink or spending quality time at the family cottage at Fairbanks Lake, Bill was happiest with his loving wife, kids and precious grandson Jacob who called him Boppy. Bill's inspired work ethic, wonderful sense of humour, embodiment of true friendship and love of family will continue to bring comfort to all who knew him. CONE, Gerald A. 1924 - 2008 Gerald A. Cone passed away peacefully on December 28, 2008 at the age of 84 with family at his side. Born in Calgary at the Grace Hospital on August 5, 1924, he was the eldest son of Jack and Helen Cone. Raised in Calgary and surrounding area, he graduated from Western Canada High School in Calgary. He entered the Service during the War as an aircraft mechanic and afterwards attended S.A.I.T. for training in drafting. In 1948 the family moved to Nelson, BC, where he met his wife, Lucille LaPointe. They were married in 1951. He accepted a position with Shell Oil in their drafting department, moving first to Calgary and then Edmonton. After the birth of George, followed by Michael, the family welcomed the addition of triplet boys, one of the first sets in Alberta. The Cone family moved back to Calgary in 1968 where they have resided ever since. Jerry left Shell and joined Canadian Hunter Exploration's drafting department. He retired in 1989. He spent his retirement years assisting all of his sons in various home renovations, building scale model airplanes from scratch and tinkering in his garage. He is survived by his wife Lucille, sons George (Teresa), Michael (Evelyn), Anthony, David and Gregory, and two grandsons Peter and James. He is also survived by his brothers, John and Richard, and a sister, Lael, all of British Columbia. The family wishes to thank Erika, Maggie, Dr. Bradley and the entire second floor, West Wing, nursing and support staff of the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre for their care and help. Cremation has taken place at the Calgary Crematorium and Funeral Services. A private Memorial Service will be held.
