CUTTS, Jacqueline June It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jacqueline June Cutts on Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Jacquie spent her early years attending school in Saskatchewan and Alberta, and working in Calgary and Fort St. John, British Columbia. Her 30 year career with Canadian External Affairs took her as the ambassadors' secretary to capital cities in Africa, Asia and Western Europe where she lived life to the full. She spent her retirement years in Ottawa. Jacquie was a kind and generous friend and will be missed and mourned by all who knew her. BELL, Glenn Philip It is with great sadness we mourn the passing of Glenn who passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on December 8, 2008, at the age of 61. Glenn was born in Calgary, April 17, 1947 and lived with his parents in various cities in Alberta and then California. He came back to Calgary before finishing high school and started a successful career in the architectural drafting field. During this time he married and had one son, Wesley. His career turned entrepreneurial, and Glenn was self- employed in the construction industry, participating in many developments in the Calgary and Alberta area. Throughout the years Glenn supported the communities through work with Servants Anonymous Society. Glenn loved to travel and over the years saw a great many places in the warmer climates of Central America. Along his travels whether at home or abroad Glenn loved people most of all. He loved to talk to and get to know anyone who was near, and would begrudge no one big or small the opportunity of his time or hospitality. Grandchildren Eric and Max will miss Grampa as well as son, Wesley and daughter-in-law Liz, father Cliff and brother Robin. As per Glenn's wishes, no Funeral Services will be held but his ashes will be spread on a warm climate beach at the first opportunity that we can arrange. CHOMANY, Audrey May Audrey May Chomany passed away peacefully at the Agape Hospice on December 10, 2008 at the age of 78 years. Audrey is lovingly remembered and missed by all who knew her, including her daughter and best friend Debra (Ron); her "Quiet Warrior" Robert (Lynn); sisters Joanna Wensink with whom she shared life, love and laughter every day, Phyllis Harrison and brother Ted Chapman; granddaughter Melissa, her shining light; grandson Bradley to whom she was his champion. Audrey is also survived by Joe (Papa) Chomany whose strength was ever present in her life. Her dear dad, Francis Percival Chapman, her forever hero, predeceased her on December 10, 1970, followed tragically a year later on December 10, 1971 by her nephew Frank Chapman at the age of twenty-three and mother Hilda May Chapman in 1989. Audrey's journey was a long straight set path wrought with challenges and rewards she endured with strength and dignity. She took the time each and everyday to appreciate life and all it had to offer, sharing her road with all who chose to walk beside her. Audrey now soars with her brother the eagle as she watches over us and continues on her journey safely in the hands of her Lord. June is predeceased by Jack and by Allan Elliott, her husband and loving companion of her later years. June warmed her home with her bright wit and humour, family and friends, and kept a special place in her heart for Gull Lake and the good people there. FARQUHARSON, Diane Helen (nee McLean) April 18, 1941 - December 8, 2008 Diane Farquharson, cherished wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2008 at the age of 67 years. Diane was born on April 18, 1941 in Brownlee, SK and was the eleventh child in a family of thirteen children. Diane moved to Calgary in 1963 and married Graham Farquharson, to whom she was happily married for forty-four years. She guided her family with love, kindness and protection. Diane loved entertaining and hosting family celebrations, she always took special care of everyone who walked through her door. Diane and Graham travelled to many exotic locations throughout the world and established many lasting friendships with fellow travellers. She also enjoyed creating crafts, watching old movies and spending time with her family and friends. Her family will sorely miss her. Besides her loving husband Graham, Diane is survived by her daughter Arlene; her son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Arlene; her grandchildren, Kaitlyn Diane, Ryan, Kyle, and Jared; her sisters, Dorothy, Rose, Nina, and Darlene; her brothers, Gerry, Clare and Wilfred; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. LINVILLE, Charles Roy Beloved husband of Patricia Linville of Calgary, passed away at the Cedars Villa on December 10, 2008, at the age of 88 years. MOSLEY, Edward John Edward John passed away peacefully in his sleep in Port Alberni, BC on Monday, December 8, 2008 at 83 years of age. He is survived by his wife Margaret Mary, two children, Eric (Karen) and Martin; two granddaughters Courtney and Whitney, a sister Helen Holmes of Caledon, Ontario, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. PHILLIPS, Russell Hilton The family of Russell Hilton Phillips regrets to announce his sudden passing on December 7, 2008 in Calgary. Born on October 2, 1922 at Hamiota, Manitoba, he was the third and last surviving child of Ralph Arnold Phillips and Hazel Rose Reid. Russell grew up on the family farm, leaving at the age of eighteen to enlist in the Canadian Army. He served from 1941 to 1945, ultimately as a Gunner with the 4th Canadian Armoured Division, seeing action in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany. Following that, Russell enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1946 to 1949, where he trained as a mechanic. He worked for Canadian Pacific Airline Repairs in Manitoba and later as an auto mechanic in Calgary and Trail, BC. Russell then worked for CP Rail in Nelson, BC and in Calgary before retiring in 1987. Dad loved camping in his "bucket of bolts" and spent many enjoyable summers as a volunteer host in the Ghost/Waiperous area campgrounds. An avid curler, he was also a lifelong baseball and hockey fan. Russell was predeceased by a son, Kenneth Russell, in 1955 and by his siblings; George, Thelma, Verna, Merle (George) Flynn, Elsie (Harvey) Still and Ted. He is survived by three children; Donna (Les) Trathen, Gordon (Gwen) Phillips, and Wendy (David) Schultz; his beloved grandchildren Susan (Larry), Laura, Greg, Scott and Michael and his sister-in-law Odile Phillips. FALLAS, Jack (John) 7 May 1921 - 8 December 2008 On Monday, December 8, Jack slept peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit in St. Paul's Hospital with his wife by his side. Left to mourn his passing are his loving wife and best friend, Stan; loving son, Arthur Fallas of Perdue; sister in law, Erma Bettschen of Perdue; his much loved granddaughters, Sheri Wnuk, Kim (Kevin) Graham, Pamela Wnuk; great-granddaughters Elaina Wnuk and Karlee Graham, and special great grandson, Ryley Graham, all of Sherwood Park, AB. He was also very close to his nieces and nephews, Lorri Bolton of Victoria, Wilfrid (Linda) Bettschen, Laurie (Dave) Smart, Robert Bettschen, Edward (Darla) Bettschen, Suzanne Bettschen, Stuart (Pat) Stanley, Jeanette (Bert) Plumb, Jennifer (Rick) Risler, and Stephen (Bev) Stanley. There are also many great nieces and nephews left grieving the loss of their Uncle Jack. Jack was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Dora; his brother, Harold; and dearly beloved daughter, Carol. Jack was born on the small family homestead near La Fleche, SK. He spent his early childhood there before moving to the West coast, and eventually settling in Calgary; where at the age of 16 he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces. Jack was a true soldier; courageous and dedicated, he served his country well. As a member of the LdSH (RC) from January 5, 1938 to May 1967, he spent the war years overseas serving from Africa, up through Italy and Holland. He and Stan met on his return to Calgary and were married in 1946. He served in several locations in Canada and also did a tour of peacekeeping in Vietnam and as Military Attache to the Turkish Police in Cypress. A proud moment for Jack in Cypress was when he watched the Red Ensign come down and our own Canadian Flag raised high. Upon leaving the army, Jack relocated with his family to Vermilion from Calgary, AB; accepting a position there with Lakeland College as Chief Administrator. He would eventually retire from that post as the Director of Human Resources after 20 years of service. It was during these years in Vermilion where Jack and his brother-in-law Rocky set off to the peaceful confines of Northern Saskatchewan to build a family retreat. Many great times, fond memories, and successful fishing trips where had on and near the waters of Loon Lake, SK at "the cabin." In 1995, the prairie roots called for Jack, and once again a move transpired. Relocating to Perdue, SK Jack enjoyed his retirement years feeding the birds and tinkering in his well-equipped workshop! Some years later, Jack and Stan moved into the city of Saskatoon where he enjoyed his time at The Franklin. It was only in the last year where Jack's health began to fail him. He spent a short while in the Veteran's Village in Sherbrooke, where he was welcomed with the utmost respect and dignity. The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Dr. Kwok who cared for Jack for many years. We also offer thanks to the dedicated staff at the Sherbrooke whom always ensured Jack was comfortable and cared for. A special thanks also goes out to Stephen who faithfully visited Jack during the final months of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the MS Society of Canada, or any charity of your choice. The Funeral Service will be held at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. officiated by The Very Rev. Terry Wiebe. HUME, Phyllis (nee Maskrey) Peacefully, on Monday, December 1, 2008, age 87 years. Beloved wife of the late Conrad Hume. DOYLE, James Francis Bridgewater, and formerly of Richmond, P.E.I., passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2008. Born, June 8, 1927, in Charlottetown, P.E.I., James was the son of Mary Ann Doyle and Claude Leonard. At the age of four he was placed with Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Currie of Richmond, P.E.I. In his late teens, he relocated to Halifax. For seven years he was employed at the Halifax Dockyard as an electrical assistant and house builder. James was a career soldier serving in the PPCLI and the Black Watch having resided in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Germany, Ontario and Manitoba before retiring in Nova Scotia. During his 27 years with the military, he served in Korea, England, Japan, Germany and Cyprus. He retired with the rank of Master Warrant Officer. James loved his family and his church. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, the Lions Club and was a 4th degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was instrumental in forming the Council 7077 in Lower Sackville where he became a charter member. Surviving are his sons, James (Margaret), Kingston, Ont.; Robert (Donna-Lynne), Lower Sackville; Stephen (Lynn), Winnipeg, Man.; Daniel (Maryann), Dartmouth; Thomas, West Chezzecook; Michael (Louine), Grande Prairie, Alta.; daughter, Madelaine (David) DeMone; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and half sister, Isabel (Bob) O’Brien. James was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Georgette (Duchesne); his daughter, Patricia Denise; great-grandson, Robbie; half brother, Leonard; half sister, Margaret; both his parents and Ma and Pa Currie. Visitation, 7-9 p.m. today with prayers at 8 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral mass 2 p.m., Saturday in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. GINGRICH, Arnalda Theresa (nee Thompson) Passed away peacefully, with family at her side, at the Civic Hospital, Monday, December 8, 2008. KENNEDY, Robert Alvin Age 88 on December 10th, 2008 in York, Pennsylvania. Born in Cumberland, Ontario. Son of the late Robert J. and Eva Kennedy, brother of Dr. Irving, Dr. Laurie, and Dr. Joyce Kennedy and the late Flying Officer Carleton Kennedy, and Evelyn (Joe) Burdett. Predeceased by his war bride Ruth Downie. Survived by his son, Dr. Christopher Kennedy (Christine), daughter Elaine (Chris Butcher) and grandchildren Scott, Stuart, and Jackie. Al, also known as Bob was a gentle person. He studied Honour Philosophy at Toronto and Cornell University, won numerous scholarships, and was Gold Medallist at Trinity College in 1942. After war time RCAF service, he studied Library Science, worked several years at NRC Ottawa, then went to Bell Labs in New Jersey where he became Director of their chain of libraries for some 30 years. KRUEGER, Elmer Louis July 20, 1922 - December 6, 2008 Elmer Krueger passed away at the Bethany Care Centre in Calgary on December 6, 2008 at the age of 86. He is survived by his stepson Alfred (Veronica) Gooder and their family, by his sister Iris Krueger, as well as by many nieces, nephews and friends. Elmer was predeceased by his wife Emma May who he lovingly cared for as she was confined to a wheelchair, by his parents Fritz and Pearl, and by his brothers Alan in 2002 and Vernon in 2007. Early in his life, he embraced the truth in Jesus accepting Him as Lord and friend to help on the pathway to Heaven. This he shared with friends and family. Elmer enjoyed and studied the many aspects of nature. He loved music and people, often helping others as he was moved by their struggle. Many young people and couples were touched by his sincere desire to be with his friends as they provided transportation to the meeting places and invited him to their homes where also he played the piano/organ for hymn singing. After public school, Elmer completed many correspondence courses to further his education and desire for knowledge. He spent most of his working life in the farming and fruit growing community and later on as a carrier at the Calgary Herald. For many years he worked at the Colpitt's Ranch near Cochrane. The family and friends wish to thank the Bethany Care staff and associated medical personnel for their kindness and care. Donations may be made to the charity of their choice. NEW, Mary Muriel Wife, mother and friend, died peacefully in Burnaby, BC December 5, 2008 in her 83rd year with family by her side. Born on the beautiful family farm along the banks of the Mississippi River near Almonte, Ontario in the Ottawa Valley on December 15, 1925 to John and Jean Camelon, Mary grew up with 4 sisters and 5 brothers. It was there the roots of her "can do" attitude took hold. Mary moved to nearby Carleton Place to attend high school and, upon graduation, worked at McLaren's Pharmacy. There she met her husband Gerald. They married in 1947 and moved to Montreal. Upon the birth of her children David, Steve and Jan, the seeds of her life were sown; allowing her to reap the harvest of a life well lived. She loved family, friends, community-involvement, her church, gardening, sewing, knitting, crafts, playing bridge and traveling. Through superb organization skills, Mary made things happen and encouraged her children with her motto: "you can accomplish anything you set your mind to". In 1969 the family moved to Burnaby. Mary would often talk about back east but took to the west with pleasure and loved her life in Burnaby. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Gerald; her son and daughter-in-law Steve New and Jean Wallace and granddaughters Libby and Jocelyne; and her daughter and son-in-law Jan New and David Lowe. Also saddened by her loss are her sisters Elsie Lowe and Ruth McGill and sister-in-law, Doris Camelon; as well as caregivers, Amal, Lucy and Virgie. Mary was predeceased by her first-born son David; her brothers Russell, Jim, Art, Donald and Murray; and her sisters Margaret Drummond and Kathleen McPhail. A celebration of Mary's life will take place on Friday, December 12 at 2:00pm in Cliff Avenue United Church, 1600 Cliff Ave, Burnaby. Spring/summer interment and memorial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery, Carleton Place.
