KAHN, Eli. On Friday, July 18, 2008. Born on August 11, 1929. Son of the late Harry Kahn and the late Rachel Levin Kahn. Survived by his loving sister Gita (Kahn) Kaplowitz and brother-in-law Isaac (Ike) Kaplowitz of Eastchester, New York, and his two devoted nephews and their families, Richard, Marji, Julia, Amanda, and Carly Kaplowitz of Connecticut and Michael, Donna, Ariel, Andrew, Eliana, and Daniel Kaplowitz of Michigan. Eli leaves behind a beloved family in Israel including Shlomo and Roza Kaplun and their dear family. Eli's family wishes to thank Ellen Tissenbaum, Howard Modlin, Kenneth, and all the staff of the Manoir Montefiore for making Eli's last year so comfortable, enjoyable, and dignified. Cherished father of Karen (Ken), Bobby (Nancy), Ted (Diane), Susan (Andre), Tom (Jackie), Terry (Genevieve) and Mike (Lyne), devoted grandfather of nine and proud great-grandfather of four. HOWLETT, Wanda Passed away suddenly at Rockyview Hospital on July 13, 2008 at the age of 54 years. Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her husband Michael Howlett and her daughter Danielle Howlett. She is also survived by her mother Mary Karpinski. Wanda was born in Niagara Falls and attended elementary and high school there. She graduated from Brock University and then worked in radiology at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. She met and married Michael Howlett in 1983. They moved to Edmonton, Alberta that year where Wanda took employment at the University of Alberta Hospital. In 2000, Wanda and Michael were blessed with the birth of their daughter Danielle. Wanda, Danielle and Michael moved to Calgary in 1995. Wanda worked at the Rockyview Hospital and later established a Ceramic painting business. Wanda will be remembered as a loving wife and very caring mother who took great pride in Danielle's accomplishments. She enjoyed challenging life, setting her own direction and enjoyed the company of the many friends around her. She will be sadly missed by the many she touched over the years. MOSTON, Tom October 18, 1925 - July 18, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father and grandfather, Thomas Edward Moston, at the age of 82 years. Tom was predeceased by his beloved wife Belle, brother Joseph and daughter-in-law Karen. He is survived by eight sons: Joe, Edwin (Jane), Don (Christine), Eldon (Tammy), John (Leota), Hugh, David (Bev) and Malcolm (Holly); brothers Jack and Bill; and sister Geraldine (Dave) Freeze. Tom had fifteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren who were all a tremendous joy to him. Tom was a member of the Indus Wires Seniors Club with whom he shared many trips and social events. Dad loved to sing; was an avid crib player; and never missed a curling bonspiel on TV. The family wishes to thank the nurses on Unit 73 at the Rockyview General Hospital for their care and attention. ROTH, Charles Norman "Charlie" Beloved husband of Pat Roth of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on July 17, 2008, at the age of 70 years. Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his children, Cheryl (Rob) Murray and Murray (Kham); grandchildren, David, Steven, Madison, Brianna and Jacob. He is also survived by his brother Joe (Betty) Roth as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was predeceased by his son, Norman Powell Roth in 1992. Charlie worked for AGT now Telus for over thirty-five years. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed spending time with the family at Kootenay Lake. STRANG, Norman Norman Alexander Strang passed away July 18, 2008 at the age of 85. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2005. He will be remembered by his sisters Elsie and Wilma; his children Laura, Doug and Patricia (Dave); his grandchildren Ian, Leah, Joseph and Caitlin; and great-grandchild Nathan, as well as by his nieces and nephews. Norman served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War Two and then spent thirty-seven years with the Calgary Fire Department retiring as a Division Chief in 1983. WANT, Brian Frederick 1957 - 2008 Brian Frederick Want of Calgary passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19 at age 51 with loving family and friends surrounding him. Brian is survived by his companion and cherished friend Edie and his brothers Robert (Conny) Want and Lee (Gail) Want, along with numerous family members. Brian is predeceased by his parents Clarence and Joan Want of Calgary. An avid card and game player, Brian accepted the hand that he was dealt with grace and dignity. He will be lovingly remembered for his contagious smile, sports prowess, and his love of hockey. Brian's legacy of putting others first was evident even in the last days of his life. I am now with those I loved Awaiting those I love. LATHAM, Dr. Harold D., M.D. - Passed away peacefully at the United Mennonite Home, Vineland, Ontario on July 18, 2008, just a month short of his 95th birthday. He is survived by sons, Robert and John; five grandchildren, Todd, Kris, Christopher, Kerri and Brett; and eight great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Elva; sister Keitha May and brother Gerald. Harold graduated from Queen's University in 1938. After interning in Hamilton, he started practice in Grimsby and in 1940 commenced his own practice in Beamsville, Ontario where he was a family physician for some 45 plus years. In the period 1942-45, he served as medical officer in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. From 1946- 83 Dr. Latham was the founding Medical Director of Bethesda Home in Campden, Ontario, one part of his lifetime commitment to the mentally challenged. He received the Ontario Bicentennial Award for Community Service and the Canada Volunteer Service Award for his founding role and continuing service on various Boards of Education, Hospital Boards, Community Health Centers and District Health Councils. Cremation has taken place. SANDERCOTT, Harold G. - Passed away peacefully at Niagara Arms Retirement Residence on July 18, 2008 in his 91st year. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Stewart (1992). Dear father of Bill (Gloria), Fred (Diane) Patricia (Derek) and Tom (Karen). Loving Papa of grandchildren Darrell, Darryl, David and Christian. Brother of Robert Sandercott of Grand Bend and Shirley Mitchell of London. He is predeceased by four brothers: Wreford, Kenneth, Orval and Donald. Harold was born in London, Ontario. A Veteran of WWII, he served with the R.C.A.F. In 1958 Harold and his family moved to St. Catharines to open his optical business downtown. Harold was a kind, gentle and well respected man; he was so very proud that his business celebrated its 50th year. A member of First Grantham United Church, he was very involved in his community, and was a member of St. Catharines Central Lions. He had many interests and those who knew him well remember his love of antique cars, fishing and hunting on Manitoulin Island. In 1956 he became a member of Temple Lodge #597 in London, Ontario. In 1958 he affiliated with Temple Lodge #296 A.F. & A.M. in St. Catharines and became Master in 1979. A member of Niagara Valley, he received an honourary 33o Degree Scottish Rite on September 1985, in London, Ontario. BROWN, Miriam Katherine - Peacefully, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Friday, July 18th, 2008, aged 93 years, at the Elgin Lodge Retirement Home, Port Elgin. McKEE, Glen Frederick “Hap” - Died at the North Bay General Hospital - Scollard Site, on Friday, July 18th, 2008. Hap was the beloved husband of Elizabeth Rae “Betty” (nee Ross), he was in his 92nd year. Loving father of Steven and his wife Jeannie of Sundridge and Terry-Lynn Hill and her husband Jim of Orillia. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Megan, Ryan, Gillian, Lindsey, Alison and by his great grandson Kyle. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Frederick W. McKee and his wife the former Ruth Ganton and by his brother Terry McKee. Born in North Bay in 1916, Hap played football for North Bay Collegiate and helped them win four consecutive Poupore Cups. He was also on the Collegiate basketball crew that won a Northern Ontario title. On returning home from overseas after World War II, he played in the City League with Fischer Monarchs which won the city's first Provincial Basketball title in 1946. Hap McKee was an outstanding all around athlete. He won Provincial championships in three sports - curling, trap shooting and basketball, and regional titles in curling, trap and skeet shooting, basketball, football and track as well as placing first and second in Dominion Legion curling. Not many local athletes can match that record. McKee was lead on Rudy Steski's rink that became the only local quartet to win the Canadian Legion Curling Championship. In 1968 the rink won nine consecutive games in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to sweep the Dominion crown. All told, McKee and the basic Steski rink played together for fifteen years. During that time span, they won a number of District “H“ titles and three times captured the Provincial championship and went to the Canadians, winning it all in 1968. He also took part in track and field and hockey both at home and in the armed forces. After the war he took up skeet and trap shooting and won an All Ontario Trap Shooting title in Barrie in 1953. As a result of all his athletic accomplishments he was inducted into the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame in 1994. BAIN, William Ernest “Bill“ - Bill Bain of Callander, born February 21, 1914, passed away at the age of 94 on July 19, 2008 at Nipissing Manor Nursing Care Centre. He leaves behind Violet Irene (nee Ratz), his much loved wife of 70 years. Lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his children Marilyn Smith (Ted) of Australia, Lorraine Hart of British Columbia and David Bain (Diane) of Callander. He was an active and loving grandfather to Brent and Trevor Hart, Sarah Caruso (Darren), Emily and Billy Bain, and great-grandfather to Keara, Nevaeh and Jude Caruso. They will cherish their memories of his love, kindness and sense of humour all of their lives. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Rachel Bain, his sisters Jessie Whitehead and Betty Smith, and brothers Don, Jim, Harry, Les and Lloyd Bain. He is survived by his sister Edith Middleton of Wyoming, ON and brother Shirley Bain of Loring. Bill was a gentleman and a gentle man who will also be lovingly remembered by his many friends throughout Canada and the United States. An avid fisherman, he owned and operated the tourist resort Sunbeam Bungalows in Callander for 30 years. He served as an elder at Knox United Church, and was an active member until his stroke. Friends may call at the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan on Tuesday for 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service at Knox United Church in Callander on Wednesday at 11 am. BOLTON, Mary Ethel - Mary Bolton died peacefully at Lady Isabelle Nursing Home on Saturday, July 19, 2008 in her 93rd year. Mary was the beloved wife of George W. Bolton of Arnstein; Mother of David Whitesell of Bonfield, Bob Bolton (wife Carolyn) of Port Loring, Janet Stillar (late Ivan) of Arnstein, Donna Weller (Jake) of Port Loring, Darlene Moore (Wendell) of Golden Valley, mother-in-law of Ella Whitesell of Sudbury and was predeceased by her son Billy Whitesell. She was the much loved grandmother of 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Mary was the dear sister of Winnifred McCauley of Toronto and was predeceased by her siblings Lillian Croucher, Alfred McCauley, Lloyd McCauley, Raymond McCauley, Annie Cudmore and Pat McCauley. The Bolton family will receive visitors at Arnstein Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm. BROADLEY, Evelyn (Peggy) - Passed away in the wee hours of July 20, 2008 at Douglas Memorial Hospital in her 87th year. Peggy was predeceased by her loving husband John Frederick Broadley and son George. She is survived by daughter Edith (Gary) Trenholm, granddaughter Jennifer (Vince) Pellegrini and grandsons Drew and Anthony. Peggy is also survived by her brother Arnold (Carol) James and family, cousin Marge Roos, cousin Doris Saxton, daughter-in-law Faye (the late George) Broadley, niece Mary Barrows and family of Wisconsin. She will be sadly missed by many loving and caring friends. Appreciation goes to the Home Care nursing staff, PSW girls, the P.D. Units nursing staff at St. Catharines and Welland (Kidney Foundation) for their great support during her illness. A special thanks to the nursing staff of Douglas Memorial Hospital and Dr. P. Elle laisse dans le deuil sa mère dame Orpha Poirier (feu Thomas Giguère); ses frères et soeurs : Diane (Conrad Chabot), Claude (Lise Morin), Raymond (sa fille Lucie), Lise, Rodrigue (Danielle Audet). Elle laisse également dans le deuil ses neveux et nièces, son amie très présente dans sa maladie, Yvette Raymond ainsi que ses cousins, cousines et amis (es). La famille tient à remercier particulièrement l’infirmière Francine Bradet du CCSD Drummond pour les bons soins prodigués à notre soeur. Une liturgie de la Parole a été célébrée le samedi 22 mars 2008 à 13h30 en l'église L'Assomption sous la direction de La maison Roy & Giguère Inc. 13445, 10e Avenue Saint-Georges.
