BROWN Elizabeth Sarah (Betty) August 7, 1919 - June 1, 2008 Born August 7,1919 in St. John, New Brunswick, Betty passed away at Vancouver General Hospital June 1, 2008 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ira Charles Brown (1990) and their son Dr. Charles James Brown (1999), nephew Michael Treadwell and son-in-law Robert McIlhargey (1998). She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Lori Van Dyk (Brown), Elizabeth (Beth) Brown, her four grandchildren Erin (Les McCarthy), Tyler and Raegan Brown, Mandy Van Dyk, and great-grand-daughter Emma McCarthy, daughter-in-law Allison Brown (Jim), brother and sister-in-law Mary and David Thomson, Elizabeth Thomson, Naomi Hunter (Thomson), Florence Treadwell (Michael) and good friend Norma Gallichon, and other friends in Ottawa and in Vancouver where she had lived since 2003. At Betty's request donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. A private memorial service will be held in Vancouver at a later date. CAMERON, Jessie Eveline Jane 1904 - 2008 Peacefully at her home, June 23, 2008, Jessie Cameron passed away at the age of 104 years. Beloved wife of the late Elwood Cameron. Daughter of John W. Horner and Amelia Smiley. Sister of the late Leonard Horner (Frieda), and the late Edith Draper (Sydney). Survived by sister-in-law Audrey Cameron (late Norman). Also survived by nieces and nephews. Her caregivers were very special to her. In her early years, Jessie was an avid curler, school teacher, bookkeeper at Shawville Creamery and for many years managed the Motor Vehicle License Bureau, and later worked at The Equity as a bookkeeper. In their retirement they spent many winters in Florida and traveled in Canada. Jessie was a member of St. Paul's Anglican Church, St. Paul's Guild and Clarendon Women's Institute. Visitation was held at W.J. Hayes & Sons Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Wednesday, June 25 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel. NEWMAN (MARKS, BERTHIAUME), Gabrielle Sadly as the result of a motor vehicle accident just days into her 85th year, Gabrielle Newman, passed away at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto on Thursday, June 19, 2008. Loving mother of Terry Marks of Barrie and Saundra (Marks) Fare of Minesing. Dear grandmother of Raymond Marks of Ottawa, Jason Marks of Orangeville, Nicholas and Alex Marks of Barrie, Brent Fleming of Orillia and Christopher Fleming of Mississauga. Gabrielle also leaves behind 4 great-grandchildren, Kyra and Tristen Marks of Ottawa and Zander and Wylden Marks of Orangeville. Gabrielle was predeceased by husband Raymond Leslie Marks in August 1974 and second husband Jack Newman in 1977. She is survived by her sisters Julie Bethell and Yvette Langill and many nieces and nephews of the Berthiaume and Marks families. The family would like to thank the Caledon Detachment of the O.P.P. especially Constable Scott Doney, and all the EMS personnel for their tireless efforts as well as the Sunnybrook Hospital Emergency staff, Dr. Edgar Hockmann and the nurses of the Critical Care Unit and Father Dan Cyr for their kindness and loving care of our mother during her final hours. PORTER, Richard Peter Francis "Dick" It is with profound sadness and aching hearts we announce the peaceful passing at home of Dick Porter, surrounded by the love of his family. Affectionately known as "Daddy Dick" by everyone, he was born on March 7, 1934 in Ottawa, Ontario and now eternally rests in Victoria, British Columbia. Dick left this world peacefully in his sleep on June 22, 2008 at 3:00 a.m. after succumbing to the devastating disease of liver cancer. SWENSON, Stephen Peacefully, at age 49, with his devoted wife Tomoko at his side, June 19, 2008, after a one-year battle, fought with grace and courage, against pancreatic cancer. Much loved father of Kent and infant daughter Marianne. Cherished son of Joan and Bob Swenson. Greatly loved brother of Bob (Catherine D'Amico) and Mary Jane (Serge Gravelle) and dear uncle of Eric and Carolyn Gravelle and Michael and Thomas Swenson. Stephen worked in the High Tech field in Ottawa after earning his B.Soc.Sc. in Economics and diplomas in Electronic Technology and Technical Writing. A man of great diversity, he also taught English in Japan, was an inventor with two patents, amateur movie critic, and music lover. He will be fondly remembered by many relatives, friends, and colleagues in both Japan and Canada. TIMMERMAN, William Paul Peacefully, at La Maison Mathieu-Froment-Savoie in Aylmer, Quebec, with his loving sister by his side in the early hours of June 20th. 2008, age 61 years, after a brave battle with cancer. Dear brother to Susan Timmerman-Joiner (Bill) and loving uncle to Paul and William Stevenson. Predeceased by his parents, William D. (Bill) and Helen Elizabeth (Betty) Timmerman, both formerly of Ottawa and Grand Bend, Ontario. Paul lived and loved for the past 30+ years of his life surrounded by many friends in the beautiful Gatineau area of Low, Quebec. He especially loved the outdoor life, which was the deciding reason for his move there from Ottawa. Summers included hiking, canoeing, swimming, and sailing. A 4 - 5 hour hike was not unusual, so much did he love being at one with his surroundings. Winters found him snowshoeing, skiing and snow-shovelling his driveway by hand. His driveway always boasted the neatest snow banks on the Martindale Road, and he had exacting standards! Paul also prided himself on hand-splitting countless logs for the wood-burning stove. He volunteered his time in many ways to the community of Low, including time as a firefighter. At his beautiful home, there was always an open door and friendly conversation "on the porch" anytime. Hummingbird "wars" over the ever-present feeder were always a pleasant diversion. He will be very sadly missed by many friends from near and far. A special word must be said about his life-long friend, Michael Francis, also of Low, whose dedicated, loving care and support during the entire length of Paul's illness cannot be overstated. With Mike's constant attention to Paul's needs, Paul's quality of life and ability to stay in his beloved house for as long as was humanly possible was greatly increased. Thanks also to all Paul's neighbours and friends for their wonderful support. Paul's sister and family will be forever grateful. Paul's family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of La Maison Mathieu-Froment-Savoie for their incredible devotion and professionalism. Their wonderful attention to Paul's every need greatly contributed to his comfort and peace in his final days. Cremation and a private celebration of Paul's life to follow. HIGGINS, GRACE M. - The death of Mrs. Grace M. Higgins, 91, loving wife of George A. Higgins, occurred peacefully on June 24, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born 1916 in Rexton, NB she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary (Clark) Robichaud. Grace was a member of the Fireside Club, Park Avenue United Church, Glosecap Campers and CNR Engineering Club. She will be sadly missed but always remembered. Besides her loving husband, George of 66 years; she is survived by her son, Robert Higgins (Judy) of Wells, NB; daughters, Mary Farrer (Robert) of Saint John and Georgina Weir (the late Hazen Weir) of Midland; nine grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sister, Alice Roberts of River John, NS; sister-in-law, Margaret Robichaud; brother-in-law, Russell Higgins (Olga) of Saint John; several nieces and nephews. He was the husband of Gwen (Pickett) Rogne and the son of the late Selmer and Elsie (Johnson) Rogne. Lew is survived by his wife; daughters, Toni and Kevin Taylor, Karla and Ken Fleck, Corrina Rogne all of Creston, BC; sons, Randy Rogne of Edmonton, AB and Glen Rogne of Victoria, BC; 13 grandchildren; sisters, Faye Amoas and Gail Rogne of Golden, BC; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Robert Rogne. Arnott G. England Mr. Arnott G. England, husband of the late Muriel England of Tabusintac NB, passed away Thursday 19 evening at his late residence, at the age of 85. Born in Tabusintac NB, he was the son of the late Everett and Elvina (MacCallum) England. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a retired self employed plumber. He was a member of Victory Worship Center, former member of Orange Lodge, member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 47, Tabusintac. He was a veteran of WW11 serving Overseas as a Rifleman with B Company Regina Rifles Regiment. He landed on Juno Beach D Day. He is survived by his faithful companion, his dog Tommy, four daughters; Mildred Blunston of Fredericton; Heather England of Fredericton; Irene England (Tony) of Tabusintac; Angela Forbes (Pierre) of Tabusintac; two sons; Wendell (Linda) England) of Tabusintac; Everett (Nancy) England of Fredericton; 10 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, six great grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Muriel (2005); one infant son, Arnott; Brothers, Alvin, Claude, Donald (Max), Graham; Sisters, Mildred Copp, Audrey Savoy, Annie Harding (Nan) and Marguerette Murray and one son-in-law Bill Blunston. Mr. Arnott England rested at Victory Worship Center, Tabusintac, with visitation on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. The Funeral Service was held Sunday at 2 pm from Victory Worship Center, with Pastor Jody Holmes officiating, assisted by Rev. Martyn Van Essen. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery, Tabusintac. MAVIS, Lee Mary Frances Lee passed away peacefully at Ottawa General Hospital on June 20, 2008 at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was interred on June 23, 2008 at Capital Memorial Gardens. Lee is remembered by Ronald, her husband of 52 years. She was the loving mother of three sons: Brian and his partner Steve Stauff of Lansing Michigan; Michael and his wife Janet Firth of Almonte; and Mark of Montreal. She was the proud grandmother of Gillian and Derek. Lee most enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, card games and crossword puzzles. She retired from St. Vincent's Hospital in 1999. GIRARD, Jean-Claude Henri - After a lengthy battle with cancer at the Mattawa General Hospital on Tuesday June 24, 2008 at 68 years of age. Beloved husband of Florence Girard nee Tanguay. Loving father of Ginette (Pierre Villeneuve), Roger (France Dauphinais) and Joel (Yvonne Provencher). Pepère to Dominic, Mathieu, Sarah, Nicholas and Félip. ADAMS, Robert Douglas - Peacefully at the Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg on Saturday, June 21st, 2008, Doug Adams at 68 years of age. PAUL, Douglas “Doug“ William - In loving memory of Douglas “Doug“ William Paul, 65 years, who passed away on Monday, June 23rd, 2008 at his home. Doug graduated as a civil engineer from Ryerson University, he went on to play professional hockey in the United States, where his three sons were born. His career took him many paths from his engineering background to owning and operating Marquette Wholesale with his wife Carol. He worked in the car business and the insurance business for a number of years, returning home to Capreol in 1985 and would go on to retire from Industrial Alliance as an insurance agent. After retiring he enjoyed working as a bus driver with Northway Bus Lines. Doug was an avid and skilled pool player, a regular at Rhythm 'N' Cues. His true passion was golf where he was a member of Clearview Golf Club where he spent many nights hitting balls. He will be sadly missed but leaves a wonderful legacy of love and happiness. Beloved husband of Carol (McKinnon) Paul. Loving and proud father of Craig of Hornepayne, Clayton (wife Stephanie) and Daniel both of Capreol. Cherished grandfather of Nathan, Brandan, Jake and Myka. Dear son of Bill and Edna Paul both predeceased. Dear brother of Carolyn (husband Ernie Purcell) of Oakville, Bruce predeceased (wife Marlene of Capreol) and Scott (wife Wendy) of Capreol. LUSK, MARJORIE ELLEN (nee Barber) Entered into eternal rest on June 23rd 2008, in her 92nd year. Predeceased by her husband Clarence in 1972. Loving mother of Barbara and her husband Ray McFarlane. Treasured Grandmother of Scott and his wife Jennifer, also of Katherine and her husband Steve McIntosh. Adoring Great Grandmother of Hayley, Joshua, Lesley and Luke. Proud Aunt of Tom Barber and the late Ellen Barber of Midland, Ont., Evelyn and her husband Peter Wright of London, Ont. and Bill Richards and his wife Sharon of Selkirk, Man. Marjorie was born in Owen Sound, Ont., on July 31st, 1916. She retired from Sears Canada and had been a loyal employee for many years. Marjorie made many friends on her journey through life. These friends will fondly remember her for playing Euchre, Cribbage and other games at the Cawthra Senior's Centre and also for being a former member of the Midland Lawn Bowling League. Marjorie was also noted for her knitting and baking for St. Pauls United Church in Midland, hosting tea parties, loving a good story and adoring her family. Thank You to everyone who touched Marjorie's life. You helped to make her time here on Earth long, happy, healthy and fun.
