GUITAR, Rita (née Marleau) - Passed away peacefully, on Friday, June 20th, 2008 at the age of 86. Predeceased by her husband Ralph Guitar. Survived by her loving son Richard Guitar (Donna); her two precious granddaughters, Lauren and Jacqueline. She will be missed by many nephews, nieces, and friends. Rita Guitar had a teaching career that began in 1939 starting in Northern Quebec, and was a teacher with the Lincoln County Roman Catholic Separate School Board for 30 years beginning in 1957. Rita loved her time as a Kindergarten teacher. She taught at series of schools in St. Catharines including St. Joseph's, St. Patrick's and Christ the King. Funeral service to be held at The Perley and Rideau Veterans' Health Centre, 1750 Russell Road, Ottawa, on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 2 p.m. Burial to take place at St-Joseph Cemetery, Orléans. OVENDEN, Roland Stephen “Rolly“ - It is with great sadness the family of Roland “Rolly“ Stephen Ovenden announces his passing at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 60th year. He leaves behind his brother Terry and his sister Shelia and his canine companion Taz. He also leaves behind sisters Diane Lemon (Paul), Lily Lambert (Rick) both of Niagara Falls, Louise Anger (Dave) of Welland and Marie of St. Catharines; brothers Jim (Marj) of Fonthill and Paul (Nancy) of St. Catharines. Will be missed by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He leaves behind special friends like Dot Joubert and Howard Smith both of St. Catharines. He is predeceased by his parents Henry (1989), Diana (2007), brother Albert (1967), uncle Ern (1985), aunt Lil (1982). He will be greatly missed by his co-workers at the Niagara Falls Wal-Mart, especially his midnight crew and Sharon and Judy. NEELIN, James Henry “Jim“ - With deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Jim at home peacefully in his sleep on Saturday June 21, 2008. He is the beloved husband of 60 years to Audrey. Devoted father of Barry, Chris, Paul (Diane) and Gayle Bussi (Tony). He was the proud and loving “Papa“ to James Neelin, Evan and Olivia Bussi. Jim is fondly remembered by his surviving brothers Don, Len and Bill (Teresa). Predeceased by his sister Marjorie Leo and brother Robert Neelin. Jim served in the Canadian Army during WWII, retired from Hayes-Dana and was a member of Adanac Lodge No. 614 A.F. & A.M. In accordance with Jim's wishes cremation has taken place and a private service has been held. Jim was always full of jokes and stories to make us laugh. Cherished grandmother of Nadia Purificati (Serge Francis), David Purificati (Julie Mavrinac), Catherine and Jonathan Merrit and Nicholas Slywchuk. Dear step-grandmother of Andrea and Patrick Landry. Frank Ernest Duke Mr. Frank Ernest Duke was born in London on March 31, 1920, he was the son of the late William and Charlotte (Barrett) Duke. In 1938, Frank worked for Imperial Tobacco where he received the offer to join either the Navy, the Army, or the Air Force. After he joined the Royal Air Force, most of his time was spent in a butcher shop cutting meat awaiting the inevitable war. When Frank was called to war in the early months of 1939, his job was to protect and guard a homemade airport that was built in a farmer's old field and there he sat in a ditch for the coldest winter that he had ever seen. Sergeant Frank Duke served with the Royal Air force throughout the WWII. Frank, along with his family moved to Toronto in 1957 and in 1963 they moved to Sussex and built the Maples Motel and Restaurant. He served on the Sussex Town Council, he was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Senior Men's New Brunswick Championship Curling Team, Trinity Anglican Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Sussex Branch # 20, Zion Lodge #21 F&AM; Frank was an avid golfer and curler and was a member and past president of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club. Ginger and Frank would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary in August of this year, he often said what a great woman he had for over 63 years. Frank is survived by his wife, Ginger; two sons, Tony and his wife Susan of Mount Denson, NS and Dale and his wife Janet of Whitby, Ontario; his daughter, Maxine Allaby and her husband Windsor of Sussex Corner; six grandchildren, Scott, Wanda, Heather, Sara, Andrew and Erin; seven great grandchildren, Emma, Hilary, Tracy, Casey, Mateo, Katie and Ava; as well as several nieces and nephews. Frank was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is predeceased by his three sisters, Dorothy Todman, Winifred Todman and Patricia Tucker. Mr. Frank Ernest Duke of Wallace Court, Sussex, passed away at the Sussex Health Centre on June 11, 2008 at the age of 88. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home. A Celebration of Frank's life was held from Trinity Anglican Church on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 2:00 pm with The Venerable David Barrett officiating. The Trinity Anglican Church Choir sung The Lords My shepherd and Amazing Grace, accompanied by Mary Chambers on the organ. A private family interment took place at Trinity Cemetery. There was a time of fellowship with the family following the committal service served by the Trinity Anglican Church Ladies Guild. The Pallbearers were: Scott McAleese, Andrew Duke, Wanda McAleese, Doug Todman, Michael Kilpatrick and Ralph Steele. The Flower bearer is Casey McAleese.

INSLEE, Joyce Marie - Joyce said goodbye to this world on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Bluewater Health - Norman Site. Born December 1, 1927, she lived life to the fullest for 80 years. Dear sister of Jo An Groombridge and aunt of Gregory (Sabina), Brian (Kate), Matthew (Mary), Christopher (Sheila), and Andrew and also great aunt of Brendan, Lindsay, Devon, Zachary, Morgan, Rachael and Jack. Predeceased by her parents Horace and Lenore Inslee. Joyce graduated in 1950 from St. Joseph School of Nursing in London. She nursed for a short while at St. Joseph Hospital, Sarnia, in the OR, and at Deaconess Hospital in Detroit. Joyce then worked at Port Huron Hospital for 39 years as a respected and loved Registered Nurse and night supervisor. Joyce finished her career in 1989. Long after her retirement Joyce continued to enjoy contributing to the Port Huron Hospital staff Christmas party by acting as Mrs. Claus and attending retiree luncheons. Joyce was well known for spoiling others with candy, doughnuts and other treats. Visitation will be held at the McKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. MACKIN, WILLIAM (BILL) JAMES - William (Bill) James Mackin (August 5, 1918 - June 22, 2008) passed away in his 90th year while enjoying a lovely Sunday with family and friends in Fredericton. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Marjorie Elizabeth Buckley (2001). During the past few years, Dad has enjoyed good health which allowed him to enjoy many prime rib roast dinners and the company of his family with lots of good stories about "the good old days" and listening to his favourite country music by Hank Snow, Johnny Cash and Charlie Pride, and always Irish music especially "O, Danny Boy". He also loved a good western movie! Recently, Dad was making his new residence at Kennebec Manor where he was settling into a new life style and making new friends. Dad is survived by his three sons, Dan (Elizabeth), Frank (Sue Anne), Joseph (Jill); and two daughters, Theresa Stoddart (Jim) and Suzanne Johnston (John); grandchildren, Danielle and Katherine Mackin; Patrick (Maritza), Ann, Peter (Michelle) and Christine Stoddart; Bree and Robbie Mackin; and Keith and Erin Mackin; and great grandchildren, Sydney Elizabeth, Julian James, Sabrina Rose and Samantha Lauryn. Dad was born in Saint John, N. B. on August 5, 1918 and was the eldest son of Daniel Patrick Mackin and Mary Luella Quinlan. He was raised along with his two sisters, Margaret (John) Dalton, Lillian (Harold) Stafford and five brothers, Gregory (Mary), Paul (Shirley), Bernie (Lillian), predeceased by Joseph (Bette) and Gerald (Gerry). Also, survived by many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and very good friend, Bernice Buckley (Vincent) and Joan McQuoid (Bill), brothers-in-law, Ervine (Alberta) Buckley, Paul Butler (Roberta). Dad met our mother in the Port City and lived and enjoyed all of his years here. He worked at the Dry Dock and Canada Packers, later as meat manager at Sobey Stores and retired in 1978 from J.D. Irving. Dad never shied away from hard work and his persistence was a trait that many wished they had. Our Dad loved cars - it became a family story and many important life milestones and passages were marked by the car that he owned on any particular day. He particularly loved attending the Mackin Family Reunions over the years and reacquainting himself with fond memories and some good Irish stories. Our father was a man of faith and loved his Catholic religion and devotion, often seen with rosary in hand. He and Marjorie attended Novenas for many years at St. Peter's Church where they were married. They raised their family in St. Pius X parish on Somerset Street. The family will meet with friends at Castle Funeral Home "Fallsview Chapel", 309 Lancaster Ave. (634-1701) with visitation on Wednesday from 7 - 9 and Thursday 2 - 4 and 7 - 9. JOBSON,Rosemary 2008-06-24 Surrounded by her loving family, she passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 21st, at Cottonwoods Hospice in Kelowna, B.C.. Rosemary was born July 8th, 1932, in Port Arthur, Ontario to Harvey and Bertha Johnston (Newey). She is survived by her children, Marianne Murray of Fairhaven, Mass. and Paul Jobson, of Grand Barachois, N.B.. She also has three beautiful grandchildren; Owen, Gabriel, and Sophia Murray. Rosemary graduated from St. Joseph School of Nursing in Port Arthur in 1955. Enjoying travel, she began work in 1956 as a stewardess for Trans Canada Airlines out of Vancouver, B.C. In 1964, Rosemary returned to Ontario to work at the Red Cross Transfusion Centre in London. In 1966 she moved back to Burnaby, B.C., where she worked at the Vancouver General Hospital. In 1967, she moved to Montreal with husband Edmund Jobson to raise their family in Beaconsfield, Quebec. After raising her children, she continued her nursing at Ste. Anne’s Veteran’s Hospital, Southwest One Medical Center and BioResearch. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, gardening, crafting and spending time at Red Pine Camp with her family. She retired to Kelowna in 1994 and remained very active golfing, traveling and volunteering as an Ambassador at the Kelowna Airport. A prayer service will be held at St. Charles Garnier at 8:00 pm, Wednesday, June 25. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 26, also at St. Charles Garnier Church. A luncheon will be served afterwards and we welcome all to join and celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. LIGHTFOOT, Wayne William - It is with great sadness we announce the death of our loving husband/father/grandfather, Wayne William Lightfoot, age 72 of Forest. Wayne died June 22, 2008 at his beloved Sunnidale with his wife and girls by his side. He fought a courageous battle with a terrible disease, Mesothelioma (lung cancer from asbestos). Sadly missed by his devoted wife Ann, daughters Brenda Van Gaver (Bryce Monaghan) and Lori Grana (Paul Archer). Cherished grandfather of four wonderful grandchildren: Lindsay Thomas (Andrew), Brock Van Gaver (Chelsea Baxter), Cassy Grana (Mike Burnie) and Mitchell Wayne Grana. Proud great grandfather of Olivia Rae Thomas. Also survived by his sister Faye Voisey (Brian), Aunts Mert Westlake and Lil Garibaldi, cousins Trudy Fletcher (Don Longhurst) and Donna and Dave Brewster, and sister-in-law Lynne Wyville. He will also be remembered by Don Monaghan and Sydney and Spencer Archer. We will never forget his sense of humour and love for his family. Wayne retired from Imperial Oil with 33 years of service. INNESS, Lottie B. (nee Jay) Born September 15, 1921, at Mount Stewart, P.E.I., died quietly at Queen Elizabeth Hospital June 22, 2008. Moved to Montreal, Que., in 1941, worked for several years as a fuse inspector at the Northern Electric Company Munitions Plant. While there, she met her husband Roderick H. Inness of Queens County, N.S. They married August 5, 1944, while Rod still served in the RCAF. After the war they took up residence on P.E.I.; living at Mount Stewart, Bunbury Village and Charlottetown, until time of her passing. Leaves to mourn, husband, Roderick of Charlottetown; sons, Raymond (Evangeline) of Charlottetown; Norman (April) and grandsons, Ryan and Darcy of Powell River, B.C.; sister, Doris (Jay) Dowd of Lachine, Que.; sister-in-law, Beth (Geldert) Jay of Mount Stewart, P.E.I.; also many nieces, nephews and friends, especially those who cared for her so well at The MacMillan Lodge. She was predeceased by her parents, Roy Jay and Ethel Jay (nee MacMillan). Private funeral service at St. Peters Cathedral and interment of cremains in Sherwood Cemetery at a later date. LAJEUNESSE, Raymond Francis 2008-06-24 Mr. Raymond Francis Lajeunesse, 81 years, of Dorion, Ontario passed away peacefully on Monday, June 23, 2008 at St. Joseph‘s Care Group, Thunder Bay, Ontario with his family by his side. Raymond worked for Abitibi Woodlands as a heavy equipment mechanic, retiring in 1991. He enjoyed hunting and fishing (especially going to British Columbia for the salmon fishing). Raymond‘s grandchildren held a very special place in his heart. He spent many hours teaching them things like how to run the boat and being their “hairdressing” model. Predeceased by his parents – Blanche and Armand Lejeunesse, and by ten siblings; he is survived by his wife Joan (nee Gregory) of Dorion, by two children – Gary (& Rose) Lajeunesse and Diane (& Serge) Chalifoux both of Thunder Bay, by four grandchildren – Cheryl (& Barry) Harris, Ryan Chalifoux (& Michelle), Ashley Lajeunesse (& Ben) and Christopher Lajeunesse all of Thunder Bay, by a sister Gabrielle Nelson of Nelson, British Columbia, and by two foster siblings – John Sapay of Kitchener, Ontario and Bernadette of Winnipeg, Manitoba. According to Raymond‘s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service for Raymond Lajeunesse, in the care of Elliott Funeral Home Ltd., Nipigon will be held on Friday, June 27, 2008 at 1 P.M. at the Dorion Community Centre, Dorion, with the Rev. V. Koop of the Dorion Bible Fellowship officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Dorion Mountainside Cemetery. GRGURIC, Josip 2008-06-24 Mr. Josip Grguric age 80 years of Thunder Bay passed away in St. Joseph‚s Hospital following a battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 with family by his side. Born on November 15, 1927 in Lika, Croatia, Josip came to Canada in 1961 with his wife Ana. He worked for five years as a bushworker in the outskirts of Thunder Bay for Mosher American Company, and then following this he was employed with the Manitoba Pool 3 Grain Elevator until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Croatian Society (Velebit). His favourite pastimes included working in the garden and the Casino. Josip is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ana, sister Marija (Joseph) of Thunder Bay, sister Ane and brother Mile of Lika, Croatia , and their families, niece Rosie (Butch), and nephew Robert (Patricia) and their families, great nieces and nephews Abby, Madison and Jacob. He was predeceased by his parents Martin and Kate of Lika, Croatia and a brother Ivan. CHRISTIANSEN, Mark Edward Frans 2008-06-24 Mark Edward Frans Christiansen, aged 39 joined his Lord and Saviour on or about May 25th, 2008 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. His father, brother Erik, and true friend Dave Marshalok along with a special team from The Pas, Manitoba, Ralph MacLean and Wally Hawkins found him and took him home after an 11 day search. Of enormous help was his father‘s great friend, Phil Fontaine, Grand Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, his executive assistant, Marsha Smoke, Eugene Arcand of the Saskatchewan Federation of Indians, The People of the Muskeg Lake First Nation in Saskatchewan, and Fred Kelly, advisor to Chief Fontaine and lifelong brother of Ron, Mark‘s dad. Meegwech! We could not have done this without our communications backup teams both in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. In Thunder Bay, working around the clock were Erik‘s wife, Linda Christiansen, Laverne Murphy, and neighbour Tyler Kellar. As well in Winnipeg, Mark‘s best friend, Gordon Burns, son of veteran broadcaster Nikki Burns and his special lady, Sherri Koske, performed with excellence during the ordeal. Mark was born in Thunder Bay in 1969 to the late Anneke (Kleibrink) Christiansen of Leiden, the Netherlands and Ron Christiansen of Thunder Bay. He graduated from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute, Camrose Lutheran Bible College, and attained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lakehead University. Like many young people, he had to leave Northwestern Ontario. He chose Winnipeg because, as he often said, “It‘s only 8 hours from home and Thunder Bay, where the love of my life, Lorrie Opas lives.” In Winnipeg he first worked for MacDonald Youth Agency, then for the last five years as a special constable for University of Manitoba Security Services. To earn extra money he delivered vehicles all over the West for Eastwood Truck and Toy of Winnipeg. On May 27th he was to begin working in administration for Edison Holdings in Winnipeg. From his late mother Anneke, who as a child in Nazi occupied Holland had experienced the horrors of war and the historic role of the Canadian Army liberators, Mark developed a life long passion for the legacy and welfare of the Canadian veteran. Mark’s work with the late Major Ross Rogers who was well known in this city and throughout the country for his role as an activist for veterans affairs. He was acknowledged by the Lake Superior (Motor) Regiment Old Boy‘s Association with an Honorary life Membership – Trusteeship. Mark was selected by the Royal Canadian Legion to represent Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario in the 2001 Pilgrimage of Remembrance. As part this national initiative to educate youth leaders on Canada‘s role in the First and Second World Wars. He visited selected battlefields, memorials, museums, and cemeteries of England, Holland, Belgium and France. From the age of 12 he had a passion for military history and memorabilia to display in honour of Canadian veterans in this city and in Winnipeg. Bev and the late Arty Bass (Northern Lights Antiques), both experts on the subject, recognized this passion and talent and mentored him throughout his life to where he became an internationally known expert on the subject. They also were his second dad and mom. He was a volunteer with the Winnipeg Rifles Association, where he assisted the museum curator and volunteers with the collection, preservation, restoration, and identification of artifacts. As a lodge member of the Masonic Grand Lodge of Manitoba, he utilized his well known personal collection of military memorabilia in providing a one month display of artifacts coinciding with the 2005 Year of the Veteran Campaign He was an active member of the Military Collectors Club of Canada and the Royal Military Institute of Manitoba. He was a proud member of the Canadian Legion in Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba. He personally assisted dozens of veterans to claim their rights. He was always willing to show his collection and make his presentation to any interested group – especially Canadian youth. He was predeceased in Canada by his mother, Anneke, his uncle Ted Christiansen, and grandmother Ragna Solem Christiansen, Hogstad and grandfather Edvard Wilhem Christiansen of Narvik, Norway, as well as his grandmother Anti Postma Kleibrink and Herman Kleibrink of Leiden, The Netherlands. He leaves family and numerous cousins in Elmhurst, Rolling Meadows, Arlington Heights, and Wheaton, Illinois as well as Summerfield, Florida. In Canada he leaves cousins in Lethbridge, Alberta. When his family and friends embarked on this effort to find and bring him home, we could not have done so without the astounding people of Thunder Bay and Winnipeg who assisted us spiritually, morally, and financially. In the West we were called the Thunder Bay Posse. We are very proud of our home town, Thunder Bay. Thunder Bay people combine the toughness and passion for which we are known nationally. He was a baptized and confirmed member of Our Saviour‘s Lutheran Church. Funeral services will take place at Hilldale Lutheran Church, 321 Hilldale Road at 2 pm Friday, June 27th, 2008.
