ROSTANT, Margaret - Went to be with Lord peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit at Bluewater Health in Sarnia, on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Margaret Rostant in her 85th year was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Rostant (1987). Loving Mother of Joyce (Rostant) and Bali Swarath, the late Pearl (Rostant, 2007) and Gerald Bonadie, Grace (Rostant) and Jones Celaire, Robert and Joan Rostant. OTTO. Margaret 2008-02-23 Miss Margaret Otto, age 74 years, passed away peacefully at Pinewood Court on Thursday Feb. 21, 2008. Margie was born June l, 1933 at the family home on McIntosh St. in the East End of Fort William. She lived 57 happy years at home with her family in this closely knit community. She attended St. Peter‘s school, was a member of St. Peter‘s Church CWL and the Slovak Legion Br. 129 Ladies Auxiliary. She was blessed with a caring family and loyal friends. In 1990, after the death of her sister Mildred, she moved to the homes of her brothers Joe, Louis and sister Theresa. She enjoyed 10 years of new adventures with their families, the Alzheimer‘s Day Centre and the VON Adult Day Centre. She delighted in all the new friends she had made. She spent the last 7 years at Pinewood Court with the wonderfully supportive staff. Margie was predeceased by parents Joseph and Anna Otto and sisters Mildred Otto and Theresa Perozzo. She is survived by her brothers Joseph (Barbara) and Louis (Wendy), brother-in-law Leno Perozzo and nieces and nephews. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, Feb. 25 at 10:00am in St. Peter‘s Church, celebrated by Fr. Wayne Bolton. Private family interment will be held at Mountain View Cemetery. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Peter‘s Renovation Fund or charities of one‘s choice would be appreciated.

DEVEAU, J. Victor DEVEAU, J. Victor - 68, Dartmouth, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 20, 2008, in the VG Site, QEII after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born in Salmon River, on March 30, 1939, he was a son of the late Adolphe and Rachel Deveau. He retired from DRFA where he worked as a carpenter for 27 years. He was a dedicated member of the Halifax Wildlife Association, an avid collector and member of The Atlantic Tool Collectors. Victor was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Social Club where he met his future wife of 44 and a half years, the former Lorraine Chiasson; He is also survived by daughter, Simone (Stephen) Crooks; son, Andrew (Kimberly) Deveau, all of Dartmouth; brothers, Roger (Rita), Dartmouth; Cleveland (Sharon), British Columbia; sisters, Loretta (Jack) Dolhanty, British Columbia; Marguerite (Joseph) MacLellan, Ontario; grandchildren, Michelle, David Crooks, Emma Deveau; many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. The family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. Friday in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. Melody was active in the community, serving as president of the Truro and District Chamber of Commerce as well as being a successful businesswoman. She was a very loving and giving person who always put others first. Her sons were her pride and joy, along with her extended family. McKENNA, Gerald Morrison 1952 - 2008 Jerry McKenna died suddenly in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on February 16, 2008. He leaves behind his wife, Fauziana "Fuzzy", his son Adam, both of Kuala Lumpur and his daughter Sarah (John) of Surrey, BC along with his sister Nora Taker (Frank) of Yarker, ON, and his brother Michael (Frances) of Mill Bay, BC. Jerry attended St. Patrick's High School in Ottawa in the late 60's and will be remembered by many in Ottawa performing as a folk singer at L'Hibou and Friends and Company, among other venues. He is predeceased by his parents Gerald and Barbara of Ottawa and his sister Molly. Jerry moved west to Calgary and Vancouver and commenced a long career in advertising which took him to Singapore, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. BALDWIN, Hugh (1954 - 2008) After a courageous battle with cancer, Hugh passed away at home on February 21st at the side of his loving wife Colette Cote, his daughter Julie and her husband Ryan, his son Michael and his fiance Stephanie, and his youngest son Robert. Dearly loved son of the late Daly Baldwin, he is survived by his mother Marie (Dowling), his brothers Delbert, Karl, Gary, James, Ronald, and sister Barbara (Hogan), and his many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and very good friends. COUCH (nee McKinnon), Maud Elizabeth 2008-02-23 A much loved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Maud Elizabeth Couch (nee McKinnon) died peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2008 with her family by her side at the age of 89. Maud was born on April 20, 1918 and was raised in Fort William, she attended local schools and graduated from F.W.C.I.. She worked at Woolworth‘s before marrying Frank. After their marriage, Maud and Frank moved to South Gillies where they raised their family and she also worked at Couch‘s Store. Maud belonged to the South Gillies Women‘s Institute and Hall Board. In 1966, the family moved to Fort William, where Maud worked as a ward secretary at McKellar Hospital. Maud and Frank loved to travel, they travelled all over Canada and the U.S. and especially enjoyed their 22 winters in Las Vegas. Maud is survived by her 6 children, Hector (Sylvia), Hubert (Aino), Maureen (Roy) Nygard, Barbara (Don) Tenkula, Joan (John) Barrett and Karen Couch, Her pride and joy were her 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Marian Pero, Donelda Baker, June (Bob) Garrett, Mae Birch and sister-in-law Elma McKinnon. She is predeceased by her husband Frank; parents Donald and Gertrude McKinnon and brother Hector. Funeral Services Mrs. Maud Couch will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 26, 2008 in the Westfort Chapel, 420 Gore Street West at James with Rev. Jan Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. in the chapel. CAMPBELL, John "Elliott" CAMPBELL, John "Elliott" - 89, Truro. God called Elliott home to heaven on February 20, 2008. He peacefully passed away at his home after a brave battle with cancer. He will be sadly missed by family and friends. Born February 10, 1919, in Montague, P.E.I., he was a son of the late Leslie and Minnie Campbell. He served with the Prince Edward Island Highlanders, Militia, and also served as an honour guard for the King and Queen's visit in 1939. He was a veteran of the Second World War from 1940-1945, serving as a Staff Sergeant in Europe. Following the war, he was a cadet instructor, taught shooting, and was a member of the Nova Scotia Highlanders Military Rifle Association. Elliott was a long-time member of First United Church, Truro. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26. He was a member of several Masonic Lodges and recently received his 50 year Jewel. Elliott was a gunsmith and owned and operated Campbell's Gun Shop for 60 years. He loved shooting, hunting, gardening and the outdoors. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Norma (MacCallum); daughter, Joan (Greg) O'Reilly, Falmouth; sons, Austin (Mary), Ottawa; Ralph, Lake Louise, Alta.; grandchildren, Susan, Kathrin, Matthew, Christopher, Alisha, Deanne, Shane, Mark, Rebekah, Danielle; sisters, Catherine (Winston) Chandler, Mississauga, Ont.; Doris Campbell, Montague, P.E.I.; brothers, Homer (Mary Lou), Brighton, Ont.; Layton, Montague, P.E.I.; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Linda, and sister, Muriel. MATTATALL, Roderick Betts MATTATALL, Roderick Betts - 71, Sackville, N.B., died suddenly in The Moncton City Hospital on Wednesday, February 20, 2008. Born in Malagash, he was a son of the late Elmer and Ruby (Betts) Mattatall. A lifelong artist, Rod began drawing at age six. In 1957, he was awarded a scholarship to study at the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax. He worked for 30 years as a graphic design artist with Atlantic Wholesalers in Sackville, and for six years as a teacher's assistant at Marshview Middle School. He taught art to children and adults for 25 years. He drew all of the portrait sketches for the Sackville Sports Wall of Fame since 1989, and his paintings are in private collections in Europe, Canada and the United States. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; son, Kevin, Amherst; daughter, Kellie, Sackville, N.B.; grandson, Julian; sister, Jean Legere, Sackville, N.S.; brother, Don (Deanna Rath), River John; the Blanchard in-laws. He was predeceased by brother-in-law, Ronald Legere; sister-in-law, Rose Mattatall. Arrangements are entrusted to Jones Funeral Home, 70 Bridge St., Sackville, N.B. SAULNIER (MacNeil), Marie-Catherine SAULNIER (MacNeil), Marie-Catherine - 73, West Pubnico, passed away on February 21, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in West Pubnico, she was a daughter of the late Joseph R. and Laure-Irene (Pothier) MacNeil. She was a loving wife, a doting mother and grandmother, and a devout Christian. She shared her engaging personality, beautiful smile, friendliness, and thoughtfulness to family, friends, and all who were fortunate to have met her. Marie enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, quilting, scrap-booking and storytelling. She was a former preschool and elementary teacher. She volunteered in numerous community associations and activities: church leader, organist, choir member, parish council president and member of Dames de Ste-Anne; past president of the Home and School Association, and DeLaTour Co-op board and Marriage Encounter leader. Marie took great pride in her heritage and in the preservation of Acadian folklore and culture. She was a board member of the Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Ecosse and past president of Le Reveil de Pombcoup. Throughout her life she volunteered countless hours with children, the elderly, the sick, and various charities and organizations. Although she had many passions in her life, her true passion was her family. She is survived by husband, Paul; children, Yvette (Edgar) d'Entremont, West Pubnico; Angele (Joe) Saulnier-Nicholson, Truro; Marcel (Marie) Saulnier, Ottawa, Ont.; Jocelyne (Michael) Saulnier, Riverview, N.B.; Corinne (Jim) Sutej, Toronto, Ont.; nine beautiful grandchildren. She was predeceased by sister, Jeanette (Bill) Emberly, and brother, John MacNeil. The family wishes to acknowledge, with thanks, the professional care and friendship of the doctors and nursing staff at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, as well as the Continuing Care staff during her years of illness. Visitation will be Sunday from 3-9 p.m., and Monday 8:30-9:30 a.m. in West Pubnico Funeral Home in Middle West Pubnico. Funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Middle West Pubnico. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. WIRRELL, Muriel May WIRRELL, Muriel May - 85, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2008, at the home of her daughter in Toronto, Ont. Born in Halifax, on September 28,1922, Muriel was the eldest daughter of the late Alec Pottie and Virginia (Briand-Pottie) Sampson, also her stepfather, William Sampson. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis A. (Frank) Wirrell. She was the loving mother of Gloria (Maurice) St. Onge, Halifax, and Francine (Brian) Rushton, Toronto, Ont. She is survived by her brother, Harold Pottie; sisters, Marjorie Arnold, Marie Martell and Shirley MacDonald, all of Halifax. She was the cherished grandmother of Rene, British Columbia; Andre (Jeannette), Calgary, Alta.; Marc (Susan) St. Onge, Bowmanville, Ont.; Lisa (Heith) Klaassen, Deep River, Ont.; Todd Levy, Terri (Ken) Spence, Toronto, Ont.; great-grandchildren, Amber and Kelsey Spence, Toronto, Ont.; David, Jessica, Amanda and Peter St. Onge, Calgary, Alta.; Steven Thomson, Borden, Ont.; Craig Thomson, Brantford, Ont.; Zachary St. Onge and Kaleigh Ronson, Bowmanville, Ont. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Mom worked as a cashier at the Capitol Theatre in Halifax for 30 years where she made many friends. She enjoyed movies, reading and singing especially with her long-time friend of 70 years, Philla Noddin, not to forget the Chit Chat Club which she enjoyed every week for a number of years. Mom always kept in touch with her many relatives and friends by phone or with cards. She was a happy person which was reflected by her ability to always remember special occasions of all those who knew and loved her. Mom always said that she enjoyed life. We will always remember her kind and thoughtful ways, also her beautiful smile. Mom, Nanny, Nanny G, we love you and will miss you always. Cremation has taken place in Toronto, Ont. WELDON, Ewart Leonard (Len), QC - 1921-2008 - Died at Riverside Glen, in Guelph, Ontario, of old age. Predeceased by his wife Shirley Weldon, his sister Alma and his brother John. Survived by his children Patricia, Sheila, James and Susan; grandchildren Christopher and Laura; great- granddaughter Cayley, and many extended family members. Len was born in Lindsay, Ontario, attended school in Toronto, and served in the RCAF during World War II. He was stationed in Winnipeg, where he married Shirley. After the war, he earned a BA from Victoria College (U of T), graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School, and was called to the bar in 1951. Leaving private practice in Toronto, Len became General Counsel, head of the legal department, and later, a Vice President, of the Dow Chemical Company of Canada. Len's professional life was characterized by more than 40 years of leadership, service and integrity. In Sarnia, he served as Alderman on City Council, Chairman of St. Joseph's Hospital Board, Chairman of the Centennial Fund Committee, a member of the Board of Directors at Lambton College, President of the Lambton County Law Association, and President of the Sarnia Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Rotary, and served as Rector's Warden at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church. Len was also a director of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and President of the Association of Canadian General Counsels. After retiring from Dow, Len and Shirley moved to Oakville. In his “retirement“, he served as a Deputy Judge, Small Claims Division, in Halton County and was Executive Director of the Arbitration and Mediation Institute of Canada. After Len retired from Small Claims Court, Len and Shirley moved to Guelph. Len enjoyed life tremendously: his interests over time included stamp collecting, music and dance, photography, world travel, history and politics, and contract bridge. He was a devoted husband and father, loyal friend, and proud Canadian. FRASER (MacEachern), Gertrude Blanche "Coogie" FRASER (MacEachern), Gertrude Blanche "Coogie" - 87, passed away peacefully February 23, 2008, in Halifax, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Pictou, she was one of 10 children of the late John A. and Georgina MacEachern. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Stanley Gordon Fraser. Surviving are siblings, Marjorie (Bruce) MacInnis, Ottawa, Ont.; Dorothy (Don) Edwards, Edmonton, Alta. Gertrude was a graduate of Maritime Business College. She always had a love for fashion and was known for her outstanding customer service during her many years of work, both at the original Mills Brothers and D'Allairds Ladies Wear. Conversation was lively with Gertrude as she was passionate about politics and current events. Gertrude's friendship was authentic and unconditional. She enjoyed playing the piano and we'll always remember her "Minuet in G" and her "I Love Coffee, I Love Tea." She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She is survived by daughters, Wilma Suzanne (John) Terebeiza, Largo, Fla.; Marlene Patricia (Edwin) Jones, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Richard (Lori) Fraser, Jennifer Jones, Gwendolyn (Daimen) Wood; great-grandchildren, Alicia and Nicklas Fraser; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
