RUHL, Coby - Peacefully at her residence in Lindsay on Monday, February 18th, 2008 at the age of 76. Coby Ruhl (nee Balvers) was the beloved wife of Chris. Loving mother of Anna McGarvey (Jim), Bert (Mary), Diana George (Tim) and Chris Jr. (Christa). Loved grandmother of twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dear sister of Gerrard Balvers (Wil) and her brother and sister in Holland. Coby will be missed by her many other relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the MACKEY FUNERAL HOME, 33 Peel Street, Lindsay on Thursday. Funeral service in the chapel on Friday, February 22nd at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow. McDOUGALL, Irene (nee Binnion) 1907 - 2008 Much loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on Monday, February 18, 2008, in her 101st year. She will be greatly missed by her cherished family members. Irene's dedication to family interests and needs were consistently present; with her unselfish care, understanding, patience, good humour, judgement, affection, intellect, and great conversations. She coupled such faithfulness with being a happy person, as well as being generous, kind, and honest. Such attributes indeed are legacies carried to those she touched along her long life's journey. Irene's younger family members in particular will continue to be proud to honour her, by living such qualities in their individual lives. Irene, born in Liverpool, England of a family of silver carriage lamp designers recognized by the Royal Coat of Arms, immigrated to Calgary at the age of three with her mother and father. She was an accomplished student recognized personally by William Aberhart as then principal of Crescent Heights High School. During a senior secretarial career with two major grain companies having headquarters in Calgary, Irene married and had two sons, and later in life followed her mother into membership of the Order of the Eastern Star. Through her involvement in the various offices of the Order, she became Worthy Matron of Bow Valley Chapter No. 5, Calgary (1955), and later, Worthy Grand Matron in the province of Alberta (1972). Through the ensuing year, Irene made official visits to 102 subordinate chapters in the province, accompanied by her husband Morley as her grand pilot. Irene's personal project at that time was "Our Wonderful Youth". Her motto "Pride in our past and faith in our future". Many happy experiences were associated with activities of the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Masonic Order. Irene is survived by her two sons and families. Son Morley R. McDougall (Marion); grandson Kevin (Bonnie), Katrina, Hayley, Erin; granddaughter Karen; and granddaughter Brenda McQueen (Kent), Tamara, and Sean. Son Gerald M. McDougall (Ann); grandson John (Jackie), Rachel, Adam; and grandson Craig (Nancy), and Ian. Irene was predeceased by her loving husband, Morley M. McDougall (1975), a grandson of the pioneering family of Methodist Missionaries that settled in the mid 1800's, in the central and southern parts of what was later to be our province of Alberta. The family expresses thanks to the dedicated care and attention of Staff at Wentworth Manor Court, Irene's home for the past seven years. A Private Family Funeral Service will be held, with Interment at the Union Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice, flowers gratefully declined. HOLT, Leif HOLT, Leif - 89, formerly of Liverpool, passed away suddenly on February 19, 2008, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Onega, northern Russia, he was the son of Olga (Eickenberg) and Egil Abrahamsen, and grew up in Norway and London, England. After the occupation of Norway, Leif attended Forestry College in Aas, Norway, and went to work in Canada after the war, changing his name to Holt. In St. John's, N.L., he met the love of his life, Anne Emerson. He was employed at the Pulp and Paper Research Institute in Montreal, and eventually moved to Liverpool. On a career path leading to Woodlands Manager at Bowater Mersey Paper Company, he attended the Management Program at Harvard Business School and was part of the Canadian Forestry Mission to China in 1974. Leif was a competitive athlete in his early years and later spent many hours fishing and canoeing. He excelled at games such as bridge, poker, chess, and Scrabble. He was equally at home in the woods, at sea, or in large cities. By necessity, he spoke four languages over the course of his life. He attended several Olympic Games, and was hoping to attend the Beijing Olympics. Leif was a past president of the Liverpool chapters of the Kiwanis Club and Canadian Red Cross. He was a past president of the Nova Scotia Forest Products Association and was inducted into the Nova Scotia Forestry Hall of Fame in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Anne (Emerson) Holt; daughters, Linda (Holt) Fairchild, San Francisco, and Janet Holt, Halifax; son, David, Waverley; and beloved grandchildren, Claire, studying in Sweden, and Benjamin, studying in Dartmouth. He is also survived by his brother, Theodore; nieces, Elizabeth Vefald, Hamar, Norway, and Marianne Holtet, Oslo, Norway; nephew, Thor Abrahamsen, Connecticut; four great-nieces and a great-nephew. He was predeceased by his younger brother, Jan Abrahamsen. Special thanks to the staff of 4th Floor Northwood Manor and to Dr. Kate Shields and nurse Paulette who gave such special care to Leif in the last hours. FRECHETTE, Michel Philippe adjudant-maître, de Windsor, en Nouvelle-Écosse est décédé à Nottoway, Virginie, ce mercredi 13 février à l'âge de 48 ans. Né le 3 septembre 1959 à Montréal, Québec, il était le fils de feu Fernand et Thérèse (Caron) Fréchette. Michel a servi pendant 29 ans dans la Marine canadienne dont 10 de ces années comme sous-marinier. Depuis sa retraite en 2006, il avait rejoint la réserve. Dans ses temps libres, Michel aimait cuisiner et aussi, jardiner avec son petit-fils Tylis. Mikey était une personne, un mari et un ami rempli d'affection et apprécié de tous. Il nous a marqué et il nous manquera énormément à tous. Michel était du «West Scotia Regiment» et le maître-cuisinier du secteur de l'Atlantique de la force terrestre. Il se trouvait en Virginie en tant que membre du détachement précurseur dans le cadre de l'exercice « Southbound Trooper » de la force opérationnelle interarmées, le plus gros exercice annuel des soldats du 36e Groupe-Brigade du Canada. Mikey était reconnu comme un homme dédié à sa famille, extrêmement professionnel dans ses fonctions et il était admiré par ses collègues militaires. Il était un mari aimant, l'âme soeur et l'amour de Caroline Vigneault et un père fier de sa fille Tanya Verge (Corey Lucas) de Halifax, de son fils Kevin Verge et fier grand-père de Tylis Verge. Il laisse aussi dans le deuil ses soeurs Denise Fréchette et son épouse Sharon Walker, Marie Fréchette (Daniel), Francine Fréchette, Sylvie Fréchette et son époux Marcel Matte, son seul frère Pierre et son épouse Sylvie Fréchette tous de Montréal ainsi que de nombreux neveux et nièces. Mikey was an all around loving person, husband, father and friend to all. He always left his mark and will be missed by all. Michel was a member of the West Nova Scotia Regiment, and the Land Force Atlantic Area (LFAA) chief cook and was in Virginia as part of the advance party for Exercise Southbound Trooper VIII, the largest annual exercise for soldiers of 36 Canadian Brigade Group. Mikey as he was known, was a dedicated family man and extremely professional in his duties, and was highly regarded by his military colleagues. WOODROOFFE, Henry Maylor "Poppa" Henry Maylor "Poppa" Woodrooffe passed away quietly in his sleep Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Stillwater Creek Residence in Bells Corners, Ottawa. He was 97. Henry was born in Bruce Mines, in Northern, Ont., on April 4, 1911. Henry was the loving husband of Noreen (Regan), who passed away in November, 2005. Devoted father of Mary (Arpaia), of Ottawa; John (Gillian) of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and Joan (Mark Van Dusen) of Russell. Predeceased (1947) by daughter Heather. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Marisa Guertin (Jeff) and Kate Lamonica (David), both of Toronto and their father, Larry Arpaia; Erica Knecht (Rolf), of Shanghai; Carley Woodrooffe, of Ottawa; Sophie Woodrooffe, of Sackville, N.B.; Regain Van Dusen (Eric Dagenais), of Ottawa; Anna Van Dusen, of Ottawa. Proud great-grandfather of Gabriel and Ellie Lamonica and Olivia and Mia Guertin. Henry graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Toronto in 1934. The same year, he joined the Ontario Refining Corporation (later International Nickel Corporation) in Coppercliff, Ont. His militia service included the Second Dragoons, Royal Canadian Artillery and Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury Regiment. In the Second World War, he went overseas with the Royal Canadian Engineers in 1941 and served on special assignment with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1944 to the end of the war. He retired with the rank of captain in 1946. After the war, he joined the Canadian government Department of Mines, Mines Branch, serving for 30 years, including tours in Russia, Kazakhstan and Czechoslovakia. He retired in 1974. Henry resided at Stillwater Creek for six years. Family extends a special thank you to staff members who treated him with so much care and respect and love. MacADAM, Patricia C.N.D. (Sister St. Hugh of the Sacred Heart) passed away at Villa Marguerite, Pierrefonds on February 19, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Hugh MacAdam and Nora Lynch. Her sisters, Bessie McGrath, Sister Teresa, cnd, Regina Fizgerald, Mary Greene, Connie Comeau, Sister Agnes, cnd, Frances MacEachern, Nora Strickland, and brothers, Don, Hugh, Allan, and George predeceased her. She leaves to mourn her loving Sisters, Eileen Boutilier of Halifax, NS, Margaret MacIntyre of Sussex, NB, and Teresa Britton of Cornwall, ON and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sister Patricia began her teaching career in 1935 at Good Council Academy, Montreal. She was then assigned to Inverness, and New Glasgow, NS where she spent fifteen years. Next she went to Villa Maria, Montreal where she spent twelve happy years with the boarders and returned later to teach for another seven years. She spent six years teaching at D'Arcy McGee. She spent thirteen years in community services at Verdun Catholic High Residence before she came to Villa Marguerite in 1990 where again devoted her time to community services. The Wake will be held at on Thursday, February 21, 2008 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with a Vigil service starting at 8 p.m. The Eucharistic Celebration will take place at St. Suzanne's Church, 9501 Gouin Blvd West, Pierrefonds at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 22, 2008. OBITUARY DONALD MILTON BEAUPRE With great sadness we announce the passing of Donald Milton Beaupre on February 19, 2008 at the age of seventy-eight. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Don will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Penny, his children Linda, Susan (David), Carol Anne (Nelson), Donald (Olya), Colin (Ruby) and Christina (Todd), sisters Beth (Basil) and Ruth (Oly), brothers Bob (Bertha) and Bert, grandchildren Krista, Don, Jaime, Dylan, Emily, Samantha, Keegan and Connor, great-grandson Matthew and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife Fleurette, son Robert, and parents Walter and Alice. Born in Smoky Lake, Alberta, Don chose a career in electronics and telecommunications as a boy. He started his career in the RCAF where he installed and maintained radar systems and communications equipment. In the 1970s he became a pioneer in the wireless telecommunications industry after recognizing the need for cost efficient telephone service to rural areas. He designed the systems which would ultimately provide a basis for his patented subscriber radio product and founded SR Telecom in 1981. SRT grew under his leadership and today supplies wireless telephone systems in rural or sparsely populated regions in more than 130 countries around the world, connecting close to two million people. Fiercely committed to his family, he also had a passion for opera and a great love of photography. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. FIEDLER, Wolfgang (Roger). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, left us peacefully at Pierre Boucher Hospital, surrounded by his caring and loving family on February 19, 2008. Survived by his wife, Jean Fiedler (nee Kobielus), his forever sweetheart, also by his precious children, John Fiedler (France), Stan Kwiaton (Tracey), Danny Kwiaton (Mary), and dear Suzanne Kwiaton. His grandchildren, treasures Jessica, Jordan, Michelle and Stefanie. He leaves behind his brother Eberhardt (Hannelore) and all the rest of the family in Germany. In addition, his sister-in-law, Lydia Knock (Robert) and their children and grandchildren. He was a long-time employee of Pratt & Whitney Canada. The family will receive condolences at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at 120 Gervais St., Otterburn Park at 1 p.m., followed immediately by a mass at 2 p.m. on February 21, 2008. HAYES, Barbara Helen. (1963-2008). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Barbara passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2008. OBITUARY ALAN JOHN (TIM) MANN 1952 - 2008 Death came to a son, brother, father and friend on Monday, February 18, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Jewish General Hospital after a valiant and protracted struggle with a relentless malignancy. A Montrealer by birth, Tim was the son of Dr. Alan Mann and Mary Evelyn Coffey. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his children, James and Lyndsay; their mother, Lynne Foy; his younger siblings Debra (Bill Rodgers), Mary Ann and Robert, as well as nieces and nephews Terilyn Rodgers, Nathan, Silas and Julia Rogers. Well esteemed as a good friend and companion, and noted as a wit and raconteur, he had in earlier days been part of the peripatetic era of the late 60s and early 70s, living in many locales before returning to his beloved Montreal in 1977. Back home, he nourished his love for good music, films, the Habs, the Expos and the Als. Tim had the gift of making strong and enduring friendships. He was, as one old pal put it recently "someone who could make you feel special - and it was genuine". A fine and fitting tribute indeed. Most noteworthy of all was his loving and caring attachment to his two children he left too soon. They will sorely miss him - as will we all. The family acknowledges in warmest terms the skillful and compassionate care of his numerous medical caregivers over the past five years, with deepest gratitude especially to Dr. Nicole Baird and Naomi Kogan of the Jewish General Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at the Outremont Chapel, Mount Royal Funeral Complex, 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont. CRAIG, MARGUERITE - At St. Joseph's Hospital, Saint John NB, on February 19, 2008, Mrs. Marguerite (Kinney) Craig of Bonny River NB. Born in Second Falls NB on July 9, 1921 she was a daughter of the late Aldon and Nellie (Frost) Kinney. A loving sister and aunt she is survived by, two sisters, Lila Chambers of Bonny River and Hazel Walsh of Holden ME; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Kinney of Second Falls; one brother in law, Milton MacVicar of Bonny River; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by two sisters, Blanche MacVicar and Minnie Brown; and two brothers, Harland and Addie Kinney. Marguerite worked for Stedman's in St. George NB for 13 years, as well as the local drug store and taught school. In early years she was an avid quilter and up to recently enjoyed meeting friends and entertaining company. She was a member of the Second Falls Baptist Church. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB with visiting on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. SURRETT, DOROTHY ELIZABETH (MANN), Petitcodiac - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Her death occurred Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the Kenneth E. Spencer Memorial Nursing Home. Born June 16, 1914 in Stoneham, Mass., she was the daughter of the late J. Harvey and Myrtle (Dunham) Mann. She came to Canada to live with her aunt at the age of eight. She later married Guy Surrett of Petitcodiac and they had seven children. She is survived by two daughters, Florence Davis (Harold) of Saint John, Judy Davis (Doug) of Moncton; four sons, Verne (Barb) of Petawawa, Harvey (Carole) of Moncton, Richard (Claudette) of Petitcodiac, Jim (Jayne) of Petitcodiac; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy (1971); son, Reid (1995); sisters, Lulu Mahoney, Evelyn Briganti; brothers; Reid Mann, James Mann. Dorothy lived an active and full life. She was a true supporter and active worker in her church - the Petitcodiac Baptist Church. She was a life member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Petitcodiac Women's Institute and belonged to the Petitcodiac Senior Citizens. During her earlier years, she became a Commissioner in the Girl Guides and was responsible for starting Brownies in the village. She was a very talented lady. She did most types of needlework and has left a legacy of pictures and paintings. She was well known for making and decorating cakes, providing many people with cakes for all occasions, especially weddings. She was affectionately known as our "road runner" and enjoyed traveling, whether visiting scattered family members or touring Germany and Australia. She was very family orientated and the times we all gathered were special time for her. She will be truly missed. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Armstrong's Funeral Home, Petitcodiac, where visiting hours will be held Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. HOOK, HAROLD - Mr. Harold Hook of Sussex Corner, passed away at his residence on February 20, 2008 at the age of 72. Born in Stouffville, Ontario on March 06, 1935, he was the son of the late Robert and Maggie (Davis) Hook. Harold is survived by his wife Doreen; his children, Larry (Wendy) of Trenton, On, Sharon Weiss (Brent) of Orono, On, Donnie and (Amy), Orono, On, Teresa of Calgary Alberta, Eric and (Renata), of Grafton, On, and Christine of Brooklin On; his sisters, Eva Mantle of Stouffville, On, and Ella Hook of Brooklin, On; Ten Grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. DYKEMAN, RONALD LENDER - The death of Ronald Lender Dykeman of Minto, NB occurred Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. Born in Hardwood Ridge, NB he was the son of the late Albert W. and Nettie E. (McNamara) Dykeman. Ron was a man of great integrity. After the war he was employed with Louis McTiernan before becoming a dragline operator for Wassons and NB Coal retiring in 1981 after 36 years. He was a life member and past Sergeant at Arms of the Royal Canadian Legion, Minto and a faithful member of St. Michael and All Angels Anglican Church. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jennette (Dunn) Dykeman of Minto, NB; a daughter, Margaret (Joanne) Nicholson and son-in- law (Larry) who was primary caregiver; a sister-in-law, Evaline Prosser of Sussex, NB; a special friend Jo Ann Caissie who was so kind over the last year; special companion snowflake; several nieces and nephews. DUNLOP, WATSON JOHN - Born July 7, 1927 in Saint John N.B. died Feb.15, 2008 in Windsor On. peacefully with his family by his side. Beloved son of the late Watson Robert (1941) and Catherine Angeline (1993). Loving husband to the late Phyllis Mae (nee) Cameron 1993. Loving Father to W. John Jr. (Jeannine), Brian (Dana), and daughter Katherine (Remi Renaud). Loving Grandfather of Bryce, Jared, Devon Dunlop, Jeremy, Jason Dunlop, Danielle Samson, Remi Jr., Kaitlyn, Brad, Ashley Renaud. Watson is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed by brothers Ken, and Bill, sisters Amelia (Mimi), Ruth, Phyllis (Cyril Potter), Brenda (Jim Sharkey), sister in laws Margaret (Anne), Sandy Vautour (Carl) as well as family friend Kaylee, and Jackie Dunlop. Watson is predeceased by his sister Mary, brother Bob and in-laws Roy & Miriam Abbott, Doug & Lila McGeough. He will also be missed by many nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren and their families. Watson was a veteran of the Korean War and proudly served in the Canadian Armed Forces until 1972 when he retired with the rank of Sergeant and relocated to Windsor On. He then worked for Rossini Tile, the Commissionaires, and managed one of the Joinville apartment buildings until full retirement in 1993. HAWKINS (NICHOLSON), HAZEL ADELE The passing of Hazel Adele (Nicholson) Hawkins, wife of the late Elwood Hawkins, occurred on February 19, 2008 at Pine Grove Nursing Home. Born on August 22, 1909 in Lake George, NB, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Hannah (McCutcheon) Nicholson. Hazel was previously the Fountain Manager at the Metropolitan Store on Queen Street. She was a member of Keswick United Baptist Church where she played the organ and was a Sunday School Teacher. She belonged to a sewing circle, was involved in the Mission Band and supported under privileged children in Foreign countries. Hazel is survived by three daughters, Alice Moore of Mouth of Keswick, Edith Gallagher of Fredericton, June Brewer (Francis) of Burtts Corner; two sons, Paul Weed (Barbara) of Comox, BC, Michael Stairs of Sheffield; daughter-in-law, Barbara Hawkins of Sydney, NS; sister-in-law, Dianna Nicholson of Vermont; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and nieces, nephews and also she mothered several foster children. JEKIELEK, Marilyn Louise R.N.P.H.N. (Smith) - On Monday February 18th 2008, Marilyn passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara General Hospital at the age of 81. CARELLA, Agnes “Ann“ (D'Ammizio) - Peacefully, on Wednesday, February 20th, 2008 at the Hotel Dieu Shaver Hospital in her 88th year. Beloved wife of the late Frank J. Carella (1985). Daughter of the late Pasquale and Clemetine D'Ammizio (Spina). Loving mother of Antoinette and husband Robert Nelson of Thompson, Connecticut, Joseph P.Carella and wife Betty of Thorold and Frank B. Carella and wife Valerie of Merritton. Dear grandmother of Teresa A. Rheaume (Nelson) and husband Kevin, Robert G. Nelson Jr., Christopher J. Carella and wife Rene, Tara Carella, Matthew Carella and great grandmother of Monica, Madeline and Anthony Rheaume and Alexander Nicholas and William Lucas Carella. Ann is survived by three sisters Sadie Grifa, Elizabeth Hamilton, Carmel Lalonde, and predeceased by two sisters Mary Iannelli and Jennie Badowski. Ann will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. She was an active member of Holy Rosary Church and was a member of the Catholic Women's League for over 70 years. She contributed generously to fund raising, hand knitting & crocheting afghans and articles of warmth. Her earlier years were filled with catering to weddings, dinners and many fundraisers. She gave of herself endlessly and loved all of her charitable efforts. She was appreciative of the arts and enjoyed plays, concerts, and various travel adventures both here and away. Ann was an honourary member of the Scarlet Sirens Chapter of the Red Hat Society in Thompson, Connecticut, where she visited annually at the home of her daughter and helped in the kitchen at St. Joseph's Church in Thompson. A person full of humility and compassion, and generous to everyone who crossed her path, whether it to be to bake, baby sit, clean, sew, plant a garden or even stack firewood. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. She will be forever missed. Farewell Ann, you have reached your highest glory in the arms of our Saviour. Wife of the late Jacob Ruediger (1997) and beloved mother of Edward and Cheryl Ruediger, Walter and Andrea Ruediger, Eric and Diane Ruediger and Cathy and Jim Adams. Loving Oma to Bill (Heather), Tom (Julie), Aaron, Krystoff, Sam, Carl, Kate, Alexandra, Christopher, Derek and Kristen.
