TORIGIAN, Marguerite “Margaret“ - 85, of Belleville, Illinois, born March 18, 1922, in Ontario, Canada, died Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Memorial Convalescent Center, Belleville, IL. Marguerite was a retired self- employed seamstress in East St. Louis, IL and a member of St. Gregory Armenian Church in Granite City, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Berjuie (Nizamian) Mooradian, her husband, Fred S. Torigian, whom she married on July 27, 1939, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, and a brother, Harry Mooradian. She is survived by her son, Vincent (Laureen) Torigian of Belleville, IL; her daughter, Jeanette (Dick) Dostourian of Stanton, Ca; four grandchildren, Michelle Torigian, Webster Groves, MO, Lori (Nick) Rogers, Savoy, IL, Leslie Dostourian and Christopher Dostourian of Stanton, CA; one great grandchild, Jack Rogers, Savoy, IL, sister-in-law, Isabel Torigian, a niece, five nephews, one of whom is Rick (Heather) Mooradian of St. Catharines, two grand nieces, Lindsay and Laura Mooradian of St. Catharines, and many friends. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Gregory Armenian Church, Memorial Convalescent Center Activity Fund, and Family Hospice and will be received at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Memorial Convalescent Center for their wonderful care and kindness during Margaret's extended stay. SHORTT, Ellie Carole-Ann - Ellie, the cherished daughter of Jamie and Jenny (née Shaw) Shortt of RR2, Meaford, passed away in her infancy at the Grey Bruce Regional Health Services in Owen Sound on February 17, 2008. She will be sorely missed by her grandparents Deb and Dan Shaw of Meaford and Dianne and her husband Bill McDonald of Port Elgin. She was predeceased by her grandfather Mac Shortt. Ellie will be sadly missed also by her great-grandparents, aunts and uncles and several cousins. A private family funeral service, officiated by Reverend Judith Oliver, will be conducted at the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME in Meaford on Saturday February 23. She leaves behind her special friends Yvonne Bertrand, Teresa Arruda, Myrna Bettiol, Jackie Peeken and Tom Vincent. Survived by her cousins Debbie and Cindy Lemieux whose ongoing care meant so much to her. Marilyn was born in South Porcupine and had been a lifetime member of the Porcupine Camp. She was a longtime employee of the Porcupine General Hospital in which she had fond memories of the kitchen staff, her close friends and coworkers there. Marilyn was an avid bowler in her earlier years. She always drew great pleasure out of the simple things in life, but above all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. SWEET, Eleanor - 1914 - 2008 - Passed away peacefully and comfortably on Wednesday February 20, 2008 at the Timmins and District Hospital, at the age of 94. Predeceased by her husband Thomas Edwin “Ed” in 1985. Loving mother of William Sweet (Barbara) of Porcupine. Cherished grandmother of Maija Michell (Chad) of Rockwood and Andrew Sweet (Fiancée Christina) of Guelph. Dear great grandmother of Bree Michell. Mrs. Sweet is survived by several nieces, nephews and special friends. Predeceased by her parents William and Euphemia Thompson and by her sister Mary Irene Nash in 2006. Eleanor was active in the United Church and with the U.C.W. She resided in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario with her favorite years being in Camp Robinson. Wherever she lived, she always had a positive outlook on life and made friends very easily. A special thank you to the staff at Georgian Residence for the excellent care over the last 4 1/2 years. Wife of the late Murdock MacFadyen. Dear mother of Judy Nicholson, Abney; Angus, Stratford; Esther, Abney; Jimmy (Arlene), Charlottetown; John Wayne, Abney; and Clara (Alfie), Charlottetown. Loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters, Marion Young, Elizabeth “Betty” Anstie, and by her brother, Wallace Hopkins. Predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Ruth MacFadyen, grandchildren, Brenda and Jake MacFadyen and her sisters, Viola Hopkins, Janie Singleton, infants Ada and Eva Hopkins, and by her brothers, Harris and Arthur. DION, ALFRED (FRED) LORENZO Formally of Fredericton, NB, Fred Dion passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer in Toronto. Born January 4, 1953 to the late Lorenzo (Joe) and Beatrice (Maillett) Dion. Fred is survived by his wife, Sandy (Smith) of Toronto; his children, Michael (Jennifer) Dion, April (Stan) Dion; a granddaughter, Taylor Dion; stepdaughter, Lisa Smith; his brother, Stephen (Karen) Dion of Moncton; and sisters, Adrienne (Bob) Coy of Florida, Alice McInerney of Fredericton, Rita (Joe) Babineau of Moncton, Gisele (Jim) Brown of Fredericton; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Fred was predeceased by a sister, Lorraine Desjardin. A memorial service was held in Toronto on Wednesday, February 13, 2008. Fred was a Master Stone Mason by trade and co-owned Bedrock Construction in Toronto for many years. He will be greatly missed by all of us. Rest in peace Freddy..... February 21, 2008

DOYON, Patrick - In loving memory of Patrick Doyon who passed away, surrounded by his family at St. Joseph's Health Centre Hospital in Sudbury, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at the age of 72 after a long and brave battle with cancer. He will be forever missed by his family and friends and never forgotten by all the lives he touched and anyone who knew him. A long time Railway Employee, he proudly served the CNR for 18 years and retired in 1995. He was a generous and kind person. He was a devoted father and a special grandfather. DORAN, Michael John (Jack) Malcolm September 8, 1917 - February 18, 2008 Dad passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2008 at the age of 90 years. Dad was born in the county of Victoria near Peterborough, ON where he grew up. He was the eldest of seven children born to Austin and Mary Doran. After completing Normal School at age eighteen, Dad started forty-four years of employment with Canadian General Electric in 1936. During World War II he served as a training officer with the RCAF and when stationed in Claresholm, AB he met and married Nellie Lamb. After the war they resided briefly in Peterborough where Dad resumed his position with CGE. In 1947, CGE transferred them to Calgary where they lived and raised their family. Dad loved his family and friends especially sharing time with them on many camping trips and holidays. Dad was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church for almost sixty years where he was very involved in the Parish, including the church renovation and founding of the Parish credit union. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Chinook Trailer Club. Dad is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jean (Ross) Mortlock, Teri Henry, Pat (Dave) Fryer, Lorraine Kerssens (Fred, deceased), and his son, Mike (Gail Roberts) Doran. He will be greatly missed by his thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Dad was predeceased in 1998 by Nellie, his loving wife of fifty-four years and by his infant son John in 1950. MUNRO (MacQuarrie), Anne Reed MUNRO (MacQuarrie), Anne Reed - It is with heartfelt sadness the family announce the passing of their mother, grandmother, sister and companion, Anne Reed (MacQuarrie) Munro, age 81, Salt Springs, formerly of Westville and Union Centre, on February 19, 2008, at her daughter Sharon's home in Truro, after a courageous battle against cancer. Born in Lorne on July 12, 1926, she was a daughter of the late John and Annie (MacPherson) MacQuarrie. A teacher of 37 years, Anne touched the lives of many children. Her devotion to teaching was evident in the way she spoke of her students and the way she lit up whenever she met one of them in the years following her retirement. Besides her amazing love for her family and friends, Anne was passionate about music, having played the accordion, guitar, mouth organ and piano. She was an organist and choir director of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Gairloch, and over the past few years, she found joy playing the keyboard or mouth organ in the weekend jam sessions at the beloved Brookside Campground she and Allen ran. She also loved bingo and played it with the enthusiasm of a child. Having lived on the farms that she and her late husband John shared in Lorne and Union Centre for over 45 years, Anne showed her strength by working as hard as any man, never shying away from getting her hands dirty and pitching in with any task. That astonishing strength was needed in her final months of life and it never wavered. She is survived by her companion, Allen Watson, Salt Springs; children, Sharon (Jim) Gates, Truro; Roy (Sandi) Munro, Middle River, and John Munro Jr., Fredericton, N.B.; grandchildren, Kim (Amanda) Tanner, John Munro, Allie Munro, Jillian Munro, and Jasmine Collier; stepgrandchildren, Heather, John, Billy Joel, Sindi, Justin, Jonathan, and Katlyn; and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Almira and Lorna Graham; brother, Byrchill (Marie); sisters-in-law, Elaine and Madeline MacQuarrie; many nieces and nephews. Ron lived in Montreal, Windsor, Ont., Calgary, and in Albert Bridge for the last 22 years. He is survived by children, Candace and Eric and one grandchild in Windsor, Ont.; aunt, Mabel in Florida, and uncle, Burke McIntosh in Sydney; cousin, Robert Young in Albert Bridge, and two cousins in Halifax. STEEL. Eva Jane E. STEEL. Eva Jane E. - 92 years and 364 days, Amherst, passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan, with her loving daughter by her side. Born in Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Edith (Webster) Woodworth. Eva was a member of Trinity St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, a 50-year life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a life member of the Amherst Kinnettes. She loved to dance, but her passion was cards. Eva lived by the motto " I am not afraid of tomorrow for I have seen yesterday and I love today." She leaves a great many friends of all ages and was well thought of by all who knew her. She was the last surviving member of 13 siblings in her immediate family. Eva is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Bill) Hastings, Amherst; son, Alan Steel, Edmonton, Alta.; daughter-in-law, Lynn Steel, Halifax; grandchildren, Stephen, Amherst; Kathy, Amherst; Wendy, Northport, and Tiffany, London, England; great-grandchildren, Derrick, Vancouver, B.C.; Stefanie, Halifax, and Corey, Amherst; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harold Steel; second husband, Cecil Fullerton; several sisters and brothers. The Eastern Star and memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 23, at 3 p.m. in Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (902-667-9906), with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating. SHERIFF, Janet (Jenny) Morrison Mrs. Janet (Jenny) Morrison Sheriff of Creston, British Columbia, died peacefully in The Swan Valley Lodge on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the age of 94 years. Jenny was a beloved friend and strong partner in her marriage, a loving mother and role model to her children and grandchildren, and a strong supporter of her church. As a teacher, lay preacher, Sunday School teacher, choir leader and volunteer "foster grandmother" she has touched the hearts and lives of children in England and in Canada. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph after nearly sixty-four years of marriage; one son, John and daughter-in-law Darlene, of Calgary, Alberta; two daughters, Ann Farebrother, of Calgary, and Joan and son-in-law Alan Halvorsen, of Creston; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service held for Jenny on Monday, February 25, at 2:00 p.m. in Knox United Church, 506 - 4 Street S.W., Calgary, with Reverend Doctor Grant Dawson officiating. CONNELL, David Allen CONNELL, David Allen - 60, Melvern Square, passed away February 19, 2008, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. David's passion for life was his extreme love of his family and being able to compete and excel in things no one thought he could do. His love of rebuilding cars in his garage gained him recognition province wide. His biggest hobby was NASCAR, special drivers Dale Earnhart, Junior and Senior. He was an extremely honest, kind and giving person with a great sense of humour. Whether it be at a drag race with his best friend, Allyn, at a poker game, at LMK Lanes or on a ball field umpiring or wearing a MT&T ball shirt, he was always competitive. David was truly devoted to his family and was a great coach to any youth who wanted to learn. His greatest pride was his two daughters. David felt he had a blessed life and he made everyone stronger just by being around him. David was the eldest son of the late Dorothy (Naugler) and Sidney Connell. He is survived by his wife, and best friend of 37 years, Kathy (Berry); daughters, Tricia (Adrian Merrick), Edmonton, Alta.; Jessica (Brian Bain), Kentville. He is also survived by his wonderful sisters, Barbara (Blair Prout), Wilmot, and Betty (Blayne Nowe), Kitchener, Ont.; brothers, Frank of Meadowvale, and baby brother, Doug (Lisa), Harriston, Ont.; mother and father-in-law, Pauline and Claude Berry; brothers-in-law, Stephen and Andy and sister-in-law, Kim; niece, Cindy (Kevin Teal); nephews, Mark Findlay (Jamie), Derrick (Leanne), Troy, Dustin, Dillon, Daniel, Bradford (Tiffany) and their children, aunts and uncles. TURNER, Joan Letitia Ellen (nee Gray) We regret to announce the passing of Joan Turner on February 19, 2008 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, at the age of 83, following a long illness. Joan was born on 10 November, 1924 in Portland, Ontario, three years after her parents, the late Samuel Leonard Gray and Ellen Frances Gray Wiggins, immigrated to Canada from Wimbledon, Middlesex, UK. She was predeceased by her brother, Leonard Samuel Gray (Pilot Officer, 427 Squadron, RCAF) in 1944, her sister Shirley Gray Smith, and her husband, Lemuel Hugh Turner. Joan will be much missed by her brother Johnnie (Lorraine) of London Ontario, her son Glen (Sonya) of Wallaceburg, her step-grandsons Joel and Nathan Babcock, and her daughter Brenda (the late Ed Cooke) of Orleans. Joan was a proud member of the Canadian Women's Army Corps. from 1942 to 1945, and a long serving employee of the Superannuation Branch of the former DSS. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 22 at Tubman's Funeral Home at 403 Richmond Road in Westboro. Please join Joan's son and daughter for a brief reception, an hour before the service. Colette was a Registered Nurse at the IWK for over 20 years, where she loved working with the children. A loving mother and wife, she enjoyed life to the fullest, spending time with her friends, listening to music, and camping. GONZALEZ LORENZO, Dolores Marcelina GONZALEZ LORENZO, Dolores Marcelina - 1934-2008. Dolores, age 73, afflicted with A.L.S. (Lou Gehrig's disease) passed away peacefully on February 16, 2008, at her home in Moncton, N.B., surrounded by her loving family. Born in Vigo, Spain, on December 25, 1934, Dolores will be sadly missed by her family. She is survived by her husband, Enrique Jose de Arcos; daughter, Maria del Mar (de Arcos), Halifax; son, Enrique Francisco de Arcos (Claire); grandchildren, Natalia, Halifax; Miguel, Sebastien, Amelie and brother, Francisco Gonzalez (Marita), Vigo, Spain. A private funeral service was held for immediate family on February 19 in Co-operative Funeraire Passage Funeral Co-operative Chapel, Shediac Bridge, N.B.

McDONALD (Anthony), Florence McDONALD (Anthony), Florence - Born in Sydney, she passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in The Salvation Army Grace Manor in Ottawa on February 19, 2008, at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Thomas McDonald. Loving mother of Adrienne Peacock (John), Loretta Barteluk (Richard) and Prescott McDonald. Cherished grandmother of Mark Peacock (Debbie Johnston), Kevin Peacock (Giselle Murphy), Christopher, Ainsley, Kyle Barteluk, and great-grandmother of Emma and Tea Johnston-Peacock. She was predeceased by brother, Douglas Anthony, and sisters, Margaret Marsh, Betty Naish, Blanche MacDonald and Althea Butterwick. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. Florence's family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Grace Manor. A private service will be held.
