PITRE, Veronica (nee Pilon) - In loving memory of Veronica (nee Pilon) Pitre, 86 years, who passed away Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital - Laurentian Site. Born and raised in Hanmer, she married Orval Pitre in Niagara Falls in 1944. She was a well liked and longtime Capreol resident. A devout Roman Catholic she attended Our Lady of Peace Church and belonged to the parish CWL. In younger years she had been a Brownie leader and she belonged to the Daughters of Isabella. She was an avid and accomplished knitter who often gave her creations to worthy community groups and projects. Veronica will be remembered as a very generous person who was always quick to help others. She was truly a modern day shepherd and good samaritan with her many good deeds. She was devoted to her loving family taking great interest and pride in their activities and accomplishments. Beloved wife of Orval Pitre predeceased 1989. Loving mother of Rita Pitre (David Charlebois) of Sudbury, Raymond Pitre predeceased 1990 (Karen of Sudbury) and Dennis (Debbie) of Capreol. Cherished Nana of Paulette (Jeff Mensch), Norman (Francine), Robert, Tina (Trevor Beckenhauer), Jason (Sarah), Glenda (David Beaulieu), Curtis (Laura) Darrin Ayerst and great-grandchildren Stephane, Roch, Vanessa, Shea, Erick, Jordan, Joseph and Julianna. Dear daughter of Leger and Mary (Maranda) Pilon predeceased. KASSTAN, Claudia "Clara" 2008-02-20 Miss. Claudia "Clara" Kasstan, passed away peacefully at Grandview Lodge, on February 16, 2008 at the age of 83 years. A life long resident of Thunder Bay, she was born in Fort William on July 26, 1924, as the 10th of eleven children to Theodore and Maria Kasstan. Clara will always be remembered as a caring and nurturing person particularly by the nephews and nieces who she and her sister Marcella often cared for at the family home on Frederica St. in Westfort. She had boundless energy and loved working in her garden, taking long walks and bike rides in the country, and hiking up Mt. McKay in search of mushrooms and blueberries. Clara often hosted large family picnics on summer weekends at Chippewa Park, to the delight of her many nieces and nephews. She had a large appreciation for fine arts, particularly in music. She loved playing and teaching the piano, and violin, and was a long time participant in the Ukrainian choral group in Westfort. Her formal education includes degrees in fine arts (music) from Lakehead College and University of Toronto. She is survived by her elder sister Micalda, and sister-in-law Emerita Kasstan who live in Westfort. There are also several nephews and nieces from Thunder Bay, including Greg, Larry, Richard, Charles and Frank. Other relatives out–of-town include Laura Child and Chris Kaasten of Brooks, Alberta, Maria Kasstan of Toronto, Mary Effinger & Loretta Sangster of Kitchener, Margaret Umialack of Cambridge, Cecilia Kozak of Richmond, Joseph Kasstan of Burnaby, Shirley George of West Hartford, CT, Marie Derkis of North Miami, Tony Kaasten of Calgary and Alan Kaasten of London, ON. Funeral Services for the late Miss. Claudia Kasstan will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2008 with family and friends gathering at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Of St Volodymyr’s, 1502 Mountdale Avenue for the Funeral Mass at 9:30 A.M. celebrated by Fr. Jaroslaw Buciora. Interment will follow in Mountainview Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday evening after 6:00 P.M. in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James with Panachyda being offered at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel. McMAHON, Lillian - Peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 83. Survived by her sister Alice Lehman and brother Stanley Gleason (Dorothy) of Holtyre, ON and her sister Ruth Egan of St. Catharines, several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great- nephews. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Esther Gleason, brothers Herschel (Mignonne), Albert (Theresa) and Christopher Gleason. Lillian served in the Canadian Women's Army Corps from 1942- 1946 and worked at the St. Catharines General Hospital for 34 years. LEVER Mme Denise 1939-2008 Dans la paix et l'espérance, entourée de ceux qu'elle aimait, au Centre hospitalier de Granby, le 18 février 2008, est décédée, à l'âge de 68 ans, Mme Denise Lever, fille de feu Jean-Louis Lever et de feu Mme Angélique Fortin de Marsoui (Haute-Gaspésie). Elle était la soeur de Mariette, Raynald (Louisette Mercier), Gaétan (Jeanne D'Arc), feu Albert, Yves (Marie-Claude Langlois), Noëlla (Jean-Yves Larose), Berthe et Diane. Elle laisse également ses neveux et nièces : Paule, Nathalie, Manon, Carl, Sonia, Michel Lever, Yves et Claude Laniau, Maude, Julien et Luc Beauregard de même que beaucoup d'autres parents et amis. La famille désire remercier bien sincèrement le docteur Michel Poirier, médecin traitant, l'équipe médicale, le personnel infirmier et les bénévoles des soins palliatifs du Centre hospitalier de Granby. Ross loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He shared that love with his family and enjoyed many trips to Manitoulin Island and other destinations with them and his friends. Ross was a hard working man who owned and managed the Porcupine Pro Hardware for the last 14 years. He was a kind and generous man who gave a lot of his time and energy to help out in the community: Rotary Trail, Spruce Hill Lodge, Summerfest, Winter Carnival and many other projects. He was a past president of the Timmins Chamber of Commerce, and past member of the Rotary Club and Kinsmen Club. Ross showed great gentleness and dignity as his many friends continued to visit and support him during his 7 month battle with cancer. Carmen was a hairstylist and operated her own salon. She attended Brock University for continued education in Italian Studies. Carmen and Lawrence traveled the world including several hiking tours with fellow members of the Bruce Trail Club, cruising the Caribbean and South Pacific, and religious pilgrimages. She loved to garden and proudly created a majestic sacred space at her home for her family to experience in her absence. Carm's vivacious flair for living and loving enabled her to continue to live life to the fullest while embracing family and friends along her journey. NOBLE, Eleanor Elizabeth McCallum - January 15, 1925 - February 16, 2008. A resident of Queens Village, London, formally of Shallow Lake, Ontario. Quietly and peacefully, surrounded by her family, Eleanor continued her spiritual journey beyond this life. With loving gratitude for her blessed life, Eleanor will be remembered by, her daughter Wendy Noble and Steve Coad, son Kevin Noble and Cathy Pasternak and grandchildren Paul Coad and Jennifer Newman, Kevin Coad, Erin Coad, Jessica, Brenden and Christopher Noble. Eleanor was the wife and soul mate of the late Bertram Jackson Noble (1990) and daughter of the late Mary Ellen Hanna McCallum and Charles Andrew McCallum. Eleanor was predeceased by infant children Judy and Paul, sisters Clara McCallum, Anne Fair, Olive Askew and Jean Weise and brothers Lorne and George McCallum. She is survived by sisters in law Ruth Wyatt, Ruby Gamble and Verna Huston and brother in law Stanley Weise. Soeur Catherine Chiasson Soeur Catherine Chiasson, en religion, Soeur Daniel-Marie, est décédée le mardi 19 février 2008, à la Maison vice-provinciale de Moncton. Elle était dans la 94e année de son âge et la 75e de sa profession religieuse. Née à St-Joseph-du-Moine, N-É, elle était fille de feu Daniel Chiasson et de feu Suzanne Aucoin. Outre sa famille religieuse, elle laisse dans le deuil un frère: Alphonse, de Sydney, N-É, ainsi que plusieurs neveux et nièces. L'ont précédée dans la tombe six frères et trois soeurs. Notre Soeur Catherine a vécu sa mission comme cuisinière, surtout au Québec, (région de Trois-Rivières) ainsi qu'à Rogersville et à Grande-Anse, au N-B. Elle se dévoua également dans l'ouest canadien (Alberta) pendant quelques années.
