HILL, Isaac Isador “Ike” - Peacefully at the Brantford General Hospital on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in his 86th year, Ike Hill went to be with his beloved wife, Alma (1999). Ike will be sadly missed by his son, Ron (Sandy) of Brantford and his daughter Robin of Terrace, B.C. Ike will also be missed by his grandchildren Terry, Jodi and Rhianne and by 5 great-grandchildren. Quibell, Eileen Maud (nee McLeod) - Passed away peacefully at her home in Elliot Lake following a painless fight with cancer on Monday February 11th, 2008 at the age of 87. She is survived by her husband Arnold Harold Quibell of Penticton, B.C. and her sons, Roderick Quibell (Joanne) of Nanaimo, B.C., Robert Quibell, Rae Letarte (Jean-Guy), both of Elliot Lake and her daughters Norma Quibell of Calgary, Patricia Hertwig (Bernd), Shirley Butler (Roger), both of St. Catharines, Lynn Roberts (Barry) of Calgary and grandchildren, Jennifer Quibell, Kim Valencic (Hertwig), Pearl Hertwig, Jesse Hertwig, Marc & Alec Letarte, Tyler & Kayla Roberts, Daren Quibell and Frederick Butler. Also survived by brother and sister, Kenneth McLeod (Eileen) of Dugald, Manitoba, Mary Sellen (Dick) of Oak Bank, Manitoba and the late Roderick, Fraser, Alick & Glenn McLeod and Fern Braidwood. Eileen and husband Arnold raised their 7 children as one of the pioneer families of Elliot Lake. Eileen & Arnold married on December 29, 1941 and spent several years in South Porcupine before settling in Elliot Lake in 1956. Eileen graduated at the age of 50 as an R.N.A. and worked at the St. Joseph's General Hospital in Elliot Lake before retiring at age 67. Her main hobby was gardening but she also enjoyed cross country skiing, playing piano and line & round dancing. Laura " Dora " Goguen 1935 - 2008 Laura "Dora" Goguen, age 72, of Saint-Paul, and formerly of Saint-André, has passed away on Monday February 11th, 2008 after a brief illness at the Moncton City Hospital. She was the wife of the late Joseph Goguen (1985). Born in Bouctouche on December 21st, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Fred and the late Alvida (Collette) Goguen. Laura is survived by five daughters, Hélène Niles (Maurice) of Cap-Pelé, Marie Goguen of Shediac, Léa Vautour (Danny) of Saint-Paul, Alvida Poirier of Saint-Charles, Annie Goguen of Ontario; three sons, Normand (Lisa), Joe, both of Saint-Paul, David of Bouctouche; two sisters, Marguerite Landry, Patricia Cormier both of Bouctouche; five brothers, Johnny, Jean-Paul (Yvette), Alban (Rose-Mai), Jean-Claude (Pauline), Ted all of Bouctouche; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by one son, Edouard (1992); one sister, Emilie, and one brother, Edouard. She organized and assisted the Society of St. Vincent de Paul with the Christmas Family Baskets. She enjoyed painting, was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing cards with “the girls” on Tuesday afternoons. BUTLER, (nee Buschlen) Alice Joan Died peacefully at the Rosedale Hospice Care Facility in Calgary on February 10, 2008. She was born October 14, 1935 in Owen Sound, Ontario. Joan is survived by her loving husband, Dale, her three daughters, Sandra Downey (Dean), Judy Campbell (Jamie), Jenni Butler (Paul Inkpen) and her brother Walter Buschlen of Parry Sound, Ontario. She is also remembered by her four grandchildren, Megan and Jason Downey, and Ashley and Sarah Campbell. Joan's life was dedicated to her family and friends. She graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario in 1957, returning this past September to celebrate her fifty year reunion with her nursing classmates. Upon retiring from her career in 1998 she discovered her wonderful artistic talents. In August of 2007 at an art show honouring Joan's work, two of her original art pieces were auctioned off, and Joan was very pleased to donate the money to the research being done at the prestigious Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary, Alberta. He loved his job and after retirement, Lionel and Elnora spent seventeen years as "snowbirds" in Arizona. HANHAM, Daniel Victor "John" HANHAM, Daniel Victor "John" - 78, Louisbourg. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Victor Hanham on Monday, February 11, 2008, after a brief illness. Born in Louisbourg, Daniel was a son of the late Sarah "Sadie" MacDonald and William Hanham. Dad began his working career early in life, leaving school at 16 to sail on the "coal boats" out of Louisbourg and later sailing on the "lake boats" with the Hall Corporation. Many a story was told of his travels to Venezuela, Guyana, Amsterdam and Jamaica. Returning to Louisbourg, Dad worked with Dominion Coal Company, fished with Vic Harpell on the "Debbie & Brian", bought wood for Williams & Simpson's and finished his work career by working 26 years with Parks Canada. In 1985 Daniel was recognized for his volunteer work in the field of alcohol addiction in the Louisbourg area and for this and other volunteer activities, in 1986, Daniel was selected as the Lions Club "Citizen of the Year" in Louisbourg. Dad quietly spent his life helping others. Daniel is survived by his wife of 55 years, the former Mabel Bagnell; sons, Victor (Valerie), Ross; daughter, Cindy (Dan); brothers, Florian Bryan (Marlene), Bill Bryan (Wendy); sisters, Whilemine Rose, Jessie Wilson; aunt, Violet MacDonald, and several nieces and nephews. As well, "Grampy" is also survived by his two very special grandchildren, Andra and Brett. Besides his parents, Daniel was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, Jack Rose and Harold Wilson and special nephews, Harold William Wilson. Visitation for the late Daniel Hanham will be held in First United Church, Main Street, Louisbourg, today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 14, at 2 p.m. in First United Church, Louisbourg, with Rev. Ralph Johnston officiating. A luncheon will follow in Calvin Hall on Warren Street. Burial will take place at a later date. Donations in memory of Daniel may be made to the Willow Grove Cemetery Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity one's choice. NORRIS, Elizabeth “Betty Anne” - Of Welland, peacefully, at the Henderson Hospital on Saturday, February 9, 2008, in her 67th year, surrounded by her loving family, following a year long struggle with leukemia which did not stop her from continuing to travel and enjoying day to day life. Cherished and devoted wife for 50 years to Graham Norris. Beloved mother of John Norris (Yvonne) of Thunder Bay and Todd Norris (Kerry) of Belleville. Loving grandmother of Kyle, Jaimalyn, Kendyl, Matthew and Jonathan. Loved sister of Ron Lee (Kathy) of Burlington and Larry Lee (Liz) of England. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews in both Canada and England. Predeceased by mother, Mary Anne Avison, her adopted parents (grandparents) George and Anna Lee and father Leslie Lee. Born in Hamilton, Betty Anne was raised in Canboro, moving to Welland in 1958. She was employed for some 42 years as a pharmacist tech, most recently with Shoppers Drug Mart South Pelham Road, Welland, retiring in 2001. Betty Anne was a member of Wesley United Church and the church choir as well as a singing member of the Velvetones (Rose City Seniors) and the Robert Woods Singers. She and Graham loved to travel and did so extensively. Friends are invited to visit the family on Tuesday, February 12th from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the H. L. CUDNEY FUNERAL HOME, 241 West Main Street, Welland. Reverend Kim Wright will conduct the funeral service from Wesley United Church, 244 First Avenue, Welland on Wednesday, February 13th at 11:00 a.m., with visitations one hour prior to service time. A reception will immediately follow the service in the church hall. Cremation and a private interment at a future date will take place.
