DICKIE, Charlotte Joan - Passed away suddenly at the Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Friday, February 8, 2008. Joan (nee Anderson) at the age of 86 was the beloved wife of Robert Dickie for 57 years. Treasured mother of Bob and his wife Nancy Dickie of Orangeville, Stephen and his wife Jean Dickie of North Gower, Don Dickie and his partner Roger Galipeau of Gatineau, Quebec, and Peggy Dickie and her partner Gloria Gillespie of Millbrook. Predeceased by her daughter-in-law Patricia Dickie. Cherished grandmother of Scott, Adam, and Aiden. Much loved sister of Frank and his wife Dorothy Anderson of Vancouver, British Columbia. Fondly remembered by her relatives and friends. Joan was a nursing sister during World War II aboard the hospital ship Letitia, transporting wounded soldiers across the Atlantic from 1943-1945. MINGO, Mary "Lynn" (nee Girling) February 25, 1951 - February 6, 2008 Mary Lynn Mingo of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 after a lengthy and courageous battle with breast cancer. Lynn was born in Edmonton and lived in Ponoka for most of her first fifteen years before the family moved to Calgary. She graduated from Ernest Manning High School and entered the oil and gas industry as a secretary and executive assistant, working for several companies until forced to retire in 2004 due to the return of her cancer, after having lived cancer-free for five years following her first bout of cancer. Lynn loved her bingo, spending time with her family, and traveling especially to her sister Kelly's place in Vernon, B.C. Lynn is survived by her daughter Vicki and her husband James Dalton; son Jeffrey and his wife Kelly and sons William and Spencer; son Ryan and his partner Ashley; former husband Terry; brother Doug Girling; sister Kelly and her husband Kim Murray and children Amanda and Chandler; brother Michael Girling and his wife Anita and daughter Tiah; sister-in-law Mary and her children and grandchildren; as well as numerous cousins and other relatives. Lynn was predeceased by her mother, Maxine Girling on October 2, 1981 and her father, Jack Girling on December 9, 2003. BRAY (Brownell), Lynda Shirley BRAY (Brownell), Lynda Shirley - Dartmouth. It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Lynda Bray after a brief illness in Dartmouth General Hospital on Sunday, February 10, 2008. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Kathleen and William Brownell. Lynda worked at New York Life for 29 years as Office Manager. She had many interests, among them playing the piano and reading. Lynda shared this love of reading with students at Mount Edward School, helping them learn to read. She was a great traveler, visiting many places in Europe and across Canada. Lynda was a member of St. Thomas More Parish where she served in many ministries. She was a member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Women's League, where she served as president as well as many other offices. Lynda will be remembered for her gentle spirit and wonderful smile, which she so easily shared with others, especially during her latest illness. Lynda is survived by her husband, John Bray, Dartmouth; stepdaughter, Michelle (Steve) Canfield, Enfield; brothers, Dwight, Middleton; John (Edna), Moncton, N.B.; sister-in-law, Linda (Ken) Cluney, Bedford; aunts, Elaine Forsythe, Dartmouth, and Shirley Smith, Vancouver. Lynda was predeceased by her sister, Ginny Luck. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth. A funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, February 13, at 10 a.m. in St. Thomas More Parish, Main and Tacoma, with Rev. Bruno Schema officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. MASON, Verna Isabelle MASON, Verna Isabelle - 94, passed away peacefully in Tidal View Manor, Yarmouth, on Friday, February 8, 2008. Born in South Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Nellie (Newell) Moses. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ormond Churchill, as well as by her second husband, George Mason; son, Russell; sisters, Emma, Muriel, Alice; grandchildren, Scott and Kelly. She is survived by daughters, Carol Churchill, Elsie (Ernest) Hersey, Virginia Abresch, all of Yarmouth; grandchildren, Kimberly, Michele, Shannon, Tammy, Cindy, Patrick, as well as 13 great-grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was a homemaker and loved decorating for special events and holidays; she was a gardener, a lover of nature and birds year-round, and just loved the mother ducks and their babies who came to her back door each spring, and her daily visits from Chelsea the dog. She lived in Hebron for many years, and wintered in Florida for a number of years, which she enjoyed very much. She was a fabulous cook, often sending little gifts of fudge to friends and family. She was an avid reader, with a keen interest in world events, as well as local and family news. When visiting her, she would always ask, "is there any news?" Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 14, in H.M. Huskilson's Memorial Chapel, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth, Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army or to the SPCA. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She was a unique lady. MATHESON, Charles Tupper MATHESON, Charles Tupper - 58. It is with great sadness that the family announces Tupper's passing on Tuesday, February 12, 2008. Tupper died suddenly at his home, the Adult Residential Centre in Riverton, with caring staff at his side. Tupper was born in Lansdowne, and was a son of the late Trueman and Kezia (Wilson) Matheson. When Tupper was two, the family moved to Westville, where he lived until moving to Riverton in 1990. Tupper attended the first special education class in Pictou County. Tupper worked with the wonderful staff and clients at Summer Street Industries (SSI) for many years until his retirement in 2000. Tupper's mother, Kezia, worked tirelessly to help establish Special Education classes and SSI, and is considered a founding member of both. Tupper was very well-known in the Westville, Union Centre and Middle River areas, as he loved to travel around on his bike visiting neighbours for a cup of coffee or a smoke. Many of these trips included his best friend, and fishing guide, Norman Johnson. Later LORDA became Sam and Tupper's favourite fishing spot. Tupper also loved working around the sawmill (C. Trueman Matheson Lumber Limited) and tagging along on the various trucks. Tupper was fascinated by machines, big and small, especially lawnmowers. He would spend hours operating or taking them apart. Tupper was a huge music fan and would play his various pieces of audio equipment for hours on end. Tupper loved babies and pets. Tupper's smile, sparkling blue eyes and famous sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. Tupper's greatest love was his family, who will cherish a wealth of memories. He is survived by brother, Sam (Janet), Westville; sister, Pearl Alice Michael (Tom), Halifax; niece, Marie; nephews, Adam and Thomas; and uncle, John Wilson. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in Eagles Funeral Home, Westville. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, in Eagles Funeral Chapel, Westville, with Rev. Glenn Cooper officiating. Donations may be made to the "Program Account for Client Activities" at Riverton Adult Residential Centre, Summer Street Industries or any charity.

NIXON, Gordon - At the Shaver Hospital on Saturday, February 9, 2008 in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Joan Nixon. Loving father of Nancy Joan of St.Catharines and Catherine Jane McCallum (husband Don) of North Bay. Wonderful grandfather of Keith, Scott, and Neil. Dear brother to Mary Walters (Picton) and dear friend to Marion Park (St.Catharines). Predeceased by his parents Norman and Jane Nixon and his brother Saylor. Gordon was a proud graduate of Ontario Agricultural College (University of Guelph). He was employed with Lightning Fastener Co Ltd. for 35 years retiring in 1980. Throughout his work career and his retirement years Gordon was an enthusiastic member of the University of Guelph Alumni Association. He was the Founding President of the University of Guelph Alumni Association, past president of the OAC Alumni Association, former chair of the OAC Alumni Foundation, Alumnus of Honour, OAC Centennial medalist and member of the University Heritage Fund Board of Trustees. For his volunteer efforts Gordon was recognized with the Lincoln Alexander Medal of Distinguished Service in the year 2000 and the Order of OAC in 2002. Gordon was also past president of the Canadian 4H Foundation and recognized by the Foundation for 50 years of service to 4H. Gordon was an active member of St. Paul St. United Church holding a position on the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Gyro and Kiwanis Central Clubs and a former Director of the St.Catharines Chamber of Commerce. Gordon will be remembered for his annual hunting excursions with his good friends of the Nova Scotia Hunters Club where they practised the art of deer preservation. Gordon's gentleness, loyalty, friendship, and sense of humour will be sadly missed, but always remembered.
